South Africa (615 & 58/0) defeat Pakistan (194 & 478) by 10 wickets in the second Test to accomplish the series whitewash by 2-0

Because there are examples in the game where a player looked like they exaggerated an injury only to sit out and let a better fielder take their place. (Said sub may not have been very good at bowling or batting but be an excellent fielder). Ponting in the 2005 ashes being a case in point. Regularly got run out by an excellent fielder placed under his nose for exactly that reason. Also relevant there were occasions where a bowler like shohaib would bowl 5 overs and go off with injury but come back to bat and swat away in a carefree manner.

For certain tears and sprains you just don’t know. For instance if SAIM is injured and they allow a batter to take his place abdullah who makes a big score or noman who gets a 5 for (both unlikely) South Africa will feel aggrieved. It’s a really stupid rule when the injury is obvious
By the same measure, someone could fake a concussion too. If someone has gone to the hospital to get scans, its fairly obvious that they are injured. And if you really want to foolproof it, the home team board can just have a doctor and/or physio present in the stadium to examine the player.

Shan is first pakistani skipper to score century in South Africa

KG looks completely off color - wonder if SAF can take 5 more wickets today ...

Pakistan are just 151 runs behind. 8 wickets in hand.

I think Pakistan can give South Africa a tricky target.

Doesn't work that way... psychological barriers when chasing such a huge first innings target plus people keep forgetting that this is the 4th day of the test so you already both physically/mentally tired...

Poor shot. Driving without getting to the pitch, seeing that the ball is reversing. Terrible awareness and technique.

With this flimsy technique, Kamran can not survive test cricket for too long. Certainly not at #4.
He plays more like a #7. Salman and Kamran should swap places.

KG actually has decent technique but is cursed with a paindu mindset. Thankfully, it is easier to fix this than technique.

Thankfully this hack got his chances otherwise threads like injustice to kg would have popped daily

World class batsman according to the enlightened ones here
absolutely !!

So much hype over him only defence i have is he had ONE good first class season so deserved some sort of chance but he isnt international level end off

4ft saud has to be more responsible. He did well in the first match.
He should do well here as well.

Well a ball hitting the head is a pretty objective measure and players have died. Phil Hughes. So they come out to check however innocuous the hit

But a hamstring pull or a calf strain is quite subjective it’s hard to know if it’s genuine and they allow a fielder on immediately but that’s it. Imagine if the fielder coming on is better than the fielder going off and does some brilliant catches.

However in this case you are right. overnight they ought to make the decision as proven by scans that a leg is broken so a like for like replacement is due.

He was batting like a tailender. awful awful innings, this is the worst form of aggression or counter attack. Team needed a big sensible innings from him, we are batting with 10 players and trying to avoid the innings defeat and yet this is how he played. pathetic display of Cricket by KG!!

Shan Masood was born in 1989 in Kuwait, where his father worked in a bank. Following the Iraqi invasion of Kuwait and the start of the Gulf War, the family left for their native Pakistan, settling down in Karachi again.[4]

So 2 Karachi boys on the pitch now, although each from very different walks of life. Shan would have been part of the elite - not even upper middle class. Saud seems like he comes from a much more humble background.

I think the solution to filter out real from fake injuries is to send the player immediately for a scan and if it reveals a clear injury/tear/fracture then you can approve a like for like sub.
Obviously it might be impractical in ODIs and especially in T20s as the whole process could take a few hours but it could work in tests.

Probably taller than KG still. I do question why we play so many short kings though. I’ve actually found that men in Pakistan are actually on the taller end compared to many other places in the world.

Gulam's dismissal was pretty ugly.
Playing the ball way to early and not waiting for the ball to come on to the bat

Evidently Pakistanis are not tallers.. where's that come from?. Must be a beef shortage because even indians in cricket are much taller and stronger

KG is from KPK too which is a martial people

The good thing about Shan is that it seems he's recognized the bowl isn't coming onto the bat as nicely as yesterday so he's taking less risk with his shots.

Maybe trying to wait out the new ball if SA take it.

Just a guess

Just my personal experience and the majority of my friends.

A great captain's knock by Shan Masood 3.0 . Contender for the greatest knock by a PAK captain all things considered? (Hostile SENA attack in SENA, avoiding innings defeat etc)

Kamran Ghulam is short as well but saud shakeel looks shorter than him.

I don't know about Pakistan though. I have never been to Pakistan but i have relatives there though and they have decent height some are quite tall as well.

My close relatives (they are very tall as well)
are related to ehsan adil who is 6'4 i think.Genetics play a huge role in that aspect.

Shan is playing this innings to save his career.
He’s playing an excellent composed innings and slowly bringing the mountain of a deficit down. Give credit where it’s due. Test matches are as much a test of resilience and patience as technique. He’s certainly lacking in technique but putting a price on his wicket ought to be commended.

Based on comparison to whom ?. Majority indians except tech nerds are taller.

Pakistan cricket team is a pretty good sample size and it's tiny even compared to Bangladesh.

Not surprising that a country riddled with corruption is malnourished

Calm down my friend lmao. I’m just telling you my personal experience after living in Pakistan my entire life.

We need to hit one of the spinners here ideally Markram to avoid getting choked by them

Yeah Pakistanis in my experience are definitely on the taller end when I compare it to many other nations during my travels. For instance, I was just in Portugal for NYE and coming back home, I’ve felt like I’m seeing ore tall people in Pakistan than in PT. Could just be my experience though.

Kamran Ghulam who replaced Babar in the second Test against England has struggled outside of Pakistan. He’s been in great form in the domestic circuit scoring plenty of first class runs but in this innings he seemed determined to get out on every ball he faced. Once again Pakistan’s no. 5 spot is under question. Today he needed to play a solid and professional innings but instead it looked like he was trying to get out as quickly as possible.

Lol indians are not tall. Have you been to india?
I live in india and you will find midgets in many states.
Northern states have taller males though still there are way too many average or below average people even in those states.
Yeah I’m surprised by the guys comments - seems very disturbed. The majority of my Indian friends are actually on the shorter end with none being over 6 ft. Having said that, the younger ones are definitely a lot fitter than their older counterparts who have a skinny fat physique.

Iberians are short generally

The current Indian team, most are not from north, are fairly tall. That's all the current squad players including new boys in ODI

I'm going off the cricketers. Most of the big guys must be in the army then :misbah

Most deliveries to Shan Masood by a spinner without conceding a six:

Keshav Maharaj: 130

Taijul Islam: 66

Maharaj is the 4th spinner to have bowled 100+ deliveries to Shan, but only to haven't conceded a six.

Nathan Lyon, Jack Leach and Dilruwan Perera are the other 3.

They are just fair height most of them are below 6ft. Even bowlers are not above 6ft

I am sure KG will be equally disappointed. It is time for him to become humble again, no more swearing or showing muscles or copying Steve Smith mid innings.

To be fair he was playing a top tier in their backyard for the first time. I would stick with him for the next 12 months with the hope that he will learn from Aus & SA tours and work harder on his game.

Better not even attempt it at the position we are in

But few are as short as KG, SS, Rizwan, and most PK squad are below 5 '9 ...Indians are generally at least that; Kohli and Sharma being the shortest

Plumb LBW not given by the cheating Indian umpire. Replays confirms it, South Africans unlucky

Indians are generally short and unathletic compared to Pakistanis from what I've seen.

It's just even a small proportion of tall people is a huge number in India.

That said, Pakistanis are getting shorter than they used to be.

It could have been the wicket for Kwena Maphaka if they had taken the review.
