What's new

South Africa end Day 1 at 123/2 after bowling Pakistan out for 177

batting at a run rate of 5.... this is the bowling of the phaaaaaast bowling nation.

even india is ahead of us in fast bowling.

UAE model cricket and those 170 per domestic wickets have taken new ball skills out of PAK cricket. This is SAF and no way, no way new Kookaburra can be so easy to negotiate.

As i predicted they are batting few inches outside the crease against Abbas to negate his movement

Well, at least it looks like this match will see day 3. I've got tickets for Saturday.

You can't trundle your way to wickets in SA. At least one end needs to be fast enough to force batsmen back.

Looks to be pretty decent pitch to bat on.

SA scored 300+ in both innings against the Aussie attack.

Against the Lankans SA batsmen almost piled on 400 runs in the first innings.

The pitch has something for the pacers, but I dont think its a 170ao pitch!

That is why i am surprised SA opted to field first. Pakistan all out for 81 against windies while chasing 188 as well.

Because they can really cash in on the good batting conditions on D2 and D3. They were fairly confident and rightly so, that Pak wouldn't survive long enough. Why bother risking even the 1st session with the early bit of assistance to the bowlers when you could just roll Pak over in a couple of sessions, and then really put the boot in? Why give the Pakistani bowlers a chance to bowl without being under pressure due to a poor score on the board? Sad and harsh but true.

Take out that “even” and put a “well” after is.

40/0 & still 28 overs left . If visitors have their way , they might end up with a 150+ lead tomorrow & still get to bowl 20-25 overs .

Sarfraz looking comfortable should have been a clue.

This is why Bumrah is better than Abbas(No Offence).Bumrah would have got 2 wickets by now

Surprising no Pakistan bowler is able to exploit the bounce on the surface. What happened to Wahab Riaz?

Asif made SAF top order literally cry with average speed of 127-128k, may be effort ball reaching 134K. Pace is definitely required, but the new ball skill is different thing. It doesn’t happen when pacers only thought is to rough up the ball so that Yasir can come and may be later they can find some reverse. In domestics, it’s even worse - put the ball on spot at 120K, you can have Sadaf like FC stats.

Come on Pakistan :pkflag
Just 1-2 wickets and the floodgates will open. Fight, fight, fight !!!!

Asif was a highly skillful bowler. Abbas is not blessed with same level of skill.

Sarfaraz ended up with a half century against an attack of Rabada,Steyn,Philander and Olivier.
Says alot about the pitch.

SAF should have dropped a batsmen & played Keshav . Philander at 8 is depth in batting .

Those were extremely seam friendly wickets. This is a batting pitch. Rabada/Steyn/Olivier made it look otherwise because they're quicker/stronger. On this pitch even asif may not have done much.

As i said before there is no use blaming the bowlers etc...its a batting paradise what do you expect

We can't play the bouncy ball. Never been able to combat tennis ball bounce type of pitches

I know that - hence didn’t bother to waste time few weeks back when PP was going through the emotional break down in Asif v Abbas thread.

Abbas is getting found out against disciplined batting. He didn't have a reputation early on and batsmen were casual against him. However, they are now aware of his threat and have learned to be wary against him. I'm not sure if he has the skill-set to bounce back.

Two more series and there will be talk of dropping this trundler.

Boyz getting a thruppering!!! Justly deserved!

Innings defeat is on.... so where's the next tour ??

Not with new ball - SAF is going at 5+ against new Kookaburra, which should be a national shame for PP, who abuses the word “trundler” too much. This is with Elgar at one end, who is a grafter - Smith-Gibbs partnership could have doubled the score by now against this quality of new ball bowling.

A boundary ball every over. Superb batting on display. Partnership: 54(66) ..
Ovs Left: 27.....even if scores at @3 runs per over..... 127 of 177 can be knocked of today

I would bring Yasir against Markram. He struggled against Kuldeep and Chahal massively.

Feel that is a bit harsh. If I want anyone to succeed its him.He goes to play counties etc like our old legendary bowlers and fame has not got to his head like Hasan,Shadab

Have mercy on Abbas... He is coming back after injury.. Keep faith in him.. Actually he has himself set his standards high that it is becoming difficult for him to emaluate those

I think this bowling is better than what Smith/Gibbs faced. That was a past it Waqar, Zahid and a wayward Sami. This attack on current form looks better. But i see your point.

It is a fast scoring ground. You get value for your shots. I remember Azharuddin and Tendulkar putting on 222 runs at more than run a ball here.

Abbas struggling with the length which isn't surprising. He didn't get even one practice game. Abbas's strength is pitching 6 balls on the spot and having 40% of them hitting the wickets, here it's either been the wrong line or the wrong length.

Unfortunately we're going to have to depend on Amir since he's the one with experience.

Dont think they'll be playing any tests for a good few months now?

The Boyz have complained to Micky that the test matches are getting in the way of the sight seeing - I think they have a safari booked on day 4 so plan to wrap this game by lunch day 3

Pakistan will be white washed here.... Then no test cricket for almost 9-10 months.. And then everything will be forgot... And then again same Placid UAE pitches...

Pakistan need South Africa 5 down for 100 to have a sniff in this game. Elgar's wicket came too late. At least two out of the remaining South African batsmen will score big here on this pitch and against this attack. The match is done and dusted.

Amir & Shaheen will bowl much better in 2nd spell with 12+ overs old ball!!!! That new cherry is like wet soap ball for PAK pacers, and that’s ONLY because of the condition they play mostly and the philosophy they are groomed in.

Why Afridi is giving half volley after half volley?? - Use your height

Negativity is in it's full flowing best I see...

There is no lack of talent or skills with any of the players.
It's just that they're all mental midgets, especially in the batting department.

True you need to strike with the new ball consistently here. 8 more overs and the ball won't do anything for these bowlers.

You can't say it's done and dusted when the opponents are still 100+ runs behind you. The momentum can shift anytime anyway.
SAF have to bat last .

Pakistan has to develop in between a pool of at least 10 test batsman at NCA.... Probably people like saud Shakeel, sami Aslam, saad1 &2,usman salahuddin, and there might be few others I guess... Two to three out of them should at least make it to new test match 8-9 months down the line

Hmm...this test looks to go the way of the Cenuturion test in 2010 when India toured.

India put in on a green wicket - 135 AO.

SA started batting on the first day around tea and the batting conditions started improving - they scored 600+

Inspite of a Sachin century and more than a 450+ second innings score, an innings defeat was in store for India..

Although the current batting line up of SA is not up to scratch, they can still score 400+ in better batting conditions and make things very tough for you guys..your batting has to really step up even if the bowling line up restricts SA to around 250ish.

Are you sure about the last line?🤪

They will have to self-destruct very badly not to secure a significant lead here. All they need is two remaining batsmen to score 50+, and they have plenty of quality waiting in the pavilion. You can't win Test matches by getting bundled for 177 batting first on a 250+ wicket.

Styen at 36 is consistently bowling above 140/145 in third spell, Amir hardly touching 135, this is not good. Afridi hardly touches 140, What exactly is our forte anymore? :13:

If a boundary is scored literally of every over. and if SA bat 70 overs...SA may not need to bat again
