Brilliant 4 from the great man who hasn't gotten out in nearly 200 days

Warner is playing a very good knock here under pressure could be the making of him as a top class test opener

Boks have bin Excellent, shown the aus attack has been superb compared to aus

Avoiding follow on would be 30 % stride in Positive direction by Aussies.

Avoiding the follow on makes the draw a very possible result. And with the Great Gazby at the crease who knows what can happen?

Commentators, lol. SA attack is similar to great Aus attack in intensity.

:century for Aussies , they have lost at least 2 more wickets than what they would have planned.

lol breaking a man's skull into 4 pieces is not "harsh"? Out of curiosity what would the consequenses of breaking a skull to 4 pieces?

consequenses? all British newspaper will cheer for you guys on this achievement!!! headline should be protease saved england face once again on field!

After today there would be 15 more sessions . It is SA who would have to make moves here , Aussies would be happy to protect there lead.

After today there will be 9 more sessions this match. Don't think Smith would want to set Australia a generous target either.

South Africa have not bowled as well as they should have IMO despite picking 4 wickets. Australia are one partnership away from a position were they cant lose this test match and series. Dropping catches on a lifeless wicket does not help either

15 more sessions? man which test match you are watching? namibia vs papau new guinea?

Smith is an ultra defensive captain. He will first look to not lose a series before trying to force a win.

OOPPPPPssssss sorry

9 session , right , so SA would have to bat another 2 sessions minimum.

Yep. If we avoid the follow on I'd be confident if drawing the match and if we make 300 it will be very difficult for South Africa.

And whilst we're 4/102 (at 4.5 runs an over) South Africa were 3/123 at one stage. Drawing this match certainly isn't impossible

Saffer should bowl at least one yorker every now and again

Nothing else was close to the ball smith, should have reviewed.

So Smith thought i shouldn't waste the last review on a tailender :13:

Question:

Why don't the analysts of a team signal the captain about whether or not they should take a review? They have a better view on the screens

SA should rest and come back tomorrow with renewed intensity with Steyn,Parnell,Morkel and Philander bowling full throttle. Smith needs to be aggressive and go for the win from the 1st ball.

South Africa well in front but I'm confident we can draw this from here. Lyon's nightwatchmen service was very well done.

Sloppy fielding from SA here. Dropped Lyon and Warner. Then Smith didn't take a simple review which should have been taken. There was some deflection as well apart from noise.

Hopefully, Lyon doesn't stick around for very long in the morning otherwise SA has no one else to blame here.

Aussies will have to bat out another couple of sessions , if they can do so , they would be in a position where it would be difficult for SA to win.

All hinges on how quickly SA take remaining wickets . There is a Time factor involved also.

SA would need at least 100 overs in the final innings to bowl out Aussies.

Total 270 overs remaining in the Test.

Yah, but there was noise and deflection. Except bat, nothing else was close to the ball.

Lyon or no Lyon, Smith should take such reviews. It will be very hard if Lyon spends time and scores some runs in the morning. SA was lousy in field even in their first test. Need to get better if you want to win this test.

Enough time left to win this game. Aus can't bat those 90 overs with 180 runs. They play attacking cricket so they will give many chance. you need to grab those chances. Aus should have been 100/6 today

It's up to SA to not play bad cricket and let this match slip.

If South Africa let Australia bat out those 90 overs they will really be under the pump.

Great day for SA and i guess our worst day of test cricket since the 4th test in england.

Only downside for SA has to be the catching, been so poor this series very odd and unexpected from them.

They obviously won't. I expect the Saffers batting against a little after lunch tomorrow, with Smith being a defensive captain and all.

We will need soemthing vastly different than what we came up with today to bat another 90 overs, we were lucky to be only 4 down in just 25.

I don't expect anywhere near 90 overs.

I reckon 40 should be the aim.

Its to early to even talk about follow ons. Even if thats the case this is not the pitch for that. Bat Australia out the game and put them in a position were they have to save the match which is against their instincts. Smith is a great captain who has been around a while i trust him fully irrespective of the results here
