South Africa v Pakistan | 2nd ODI | Johannesburg | 4th April 2021 | South Africa innings

This is the stage to bowl yorkers and slower balls.

It is not the stage for short pitched bowling.

Pakistan need to improve their strategy in the final 10 overs.

I felt this as well.

Danish was bowling quite well, and contrary to Shadab, he wasn't giving away boundary balls.

Poor management of the bowling resources to say the least, Danish could have well picked up a wicket if he drew a false shot.

I'm quite impressed with his bowling actually. He's not bowling pure filth compared to Shadab at the moment.
 
This stupidity of bowling first will not end well for Pakistan. We are not England/India.

We will keep shooting ourselves in the foot if we don’t learn. We got really lucky in the end even in the first game.

We are simply not good enough to win consistently while chasing 270+. More often than not, we will self-destruct because of the scoreboard pressure.
 
I think a slower ball will do Miller. Should bowl it wide outside off and tempt the shot over long-off.
 
Hasnain's being turned into a medium pace swing bowler by the Pakistan management.
 
Should have held himself back.

Rassie has to be one of the best odi batsmen in the world

Agreed, we are best at defending targets, even pathetic targets by chance.

Though, chasing right now will expose a lot of weaknesses, of which some could be worked on.

It remains to be seen if the wicket continues as it has been playing for the last 10 overs. If it does, then Pakistan have a chance.

Unless we put our self in those situation we will not get better.

Mamoon ji, first game was made interesting by our stupidity so first game we deserved to win. This one i think will be good experience for the batting line up.
 
Shaheen 3 overs will be crucial here, if he can get miller out and bhiavma then we can stop this chase to a chasable total.

I'd say Rauf's overs are more crucial.

If Rauf can not be a scatter gun and contain for once, it could build pressure for Shaheen to take a wicket.
 
I'm not saying rassie is a better batsmen than babar, but can babar score 60 off 36 in an Odi. Rassie can play the long slow knocks and the powerful cameos, complete package.
 
If Rauf can take one or two wickets here, it will mean that Hasnain is going to get dropped for Hasan in the third game.
 
If Pakistan want to win this, we'd need the following:

Minimum 75 runs opening partnership, preferably with Fakhar going past 50 later on.

A 50+ from Babar.

A 50+ from either Rizwan or Danish.

Actual hitting from Asif.

Does babar ever get the platform to score freely ?? He mostly does the rebuilding job after couple of early wickets.
 
We will see how good are batting is now in this game.
 
Shadab is the problem for Pakistan,those middle overs if kept tight make all the difference between a 310 or 350 target

VDD is batting at a very high level. He is not getting hyped because South Africa is a struggling side at the moment and he is 32.

He can easily have a Mike Hussey type career from here on.
 
Just don't understand Shadab's role in the team - is he that good a bat? As he's an ineffectual bowler, surely a specialist front line spinner would do a better job in this role.

Yeah, agreed.

SA made a mistake of backing Faf for too long. He was mediocre for years, should have dropped him for Van der dussen who is a superior level batsman than him.
 
I still don't understand how someone like Bavuma made it to 90, considering that he was batting so slowly at first.

Bowlers clearly under-estimated him.

Yeah I rate the guy very highly. Seen him play some great knocks with team in crisis . Still has good 5-6 years left in him

He has been pulling off a scam for the past 4 years because of his flashy persona and fielding.

The fact that a nothing player like him is the vice-captain sums up the level of Pakistan cricket today.

Danish Aziz was bowling better from my observations, so that should answer the question about the frontline bowler.

His batting is painful to watch, to say the least.

I think Imad was a better choice for a vice-captain.

His bowling is quite mediocre. I'd rather have Danish Aziz bowling in the middle overs than Shadab at the moment.

The one thing everyone can point to is the lack of FC Cricket for Shadab. That has seriously affected his game.

He has been performing in domestic cricket for a very long time. Deserved to make his debut in the de Villiers/Amla era.
 
Pakistan’s has a dysfunctional bowling unit. Shaheen is the only skilled bowler with brains.

Rauf and Hasnain are boundary machines and Faheem is just a filler bowler. He has no plan B and every now and then he is going to get hammered like no tomorrow.

Strike rotation is important in high chases.

Lower dot ball percentage is what Pakistan should target.
 
BAd captainy by babar, Why you need to hold Shaheen overs when he is going well. He could have got Miller wicket.
