South Africa vs India , 1st Test , The Wanderers Stadium

Gibbs played a rubbish shot and India have worked out the weakness of Smith

Brings back memory of Australian tour - Where India drew 1-1 with Aussies .. South Africa in trouble big time

It should have been 5 for 4. Harper errs big time on an LBW against Prince

too permature to say if india will win from here, but i dont think we will be playing this test match on the 4 th day. india will probably wrap up southafrica in the last session unless they bowl with marvelous unimaginative ways. kallis was lucky to get that inside edge and furthermore, any lesser umpire would have sent him packing. he is playing positive and he looks determiend, and there are still two more recognized batsmen apart from these two and then the small matter of pollock who often bats like a b1tch possessed when facing india.

great display by Indians after this i may give Pakistan a better chance to compete with SA.

i cannot help but recall 'sar-fira' nawaz's recently publicized insightful comment: "sreesanth as a bowler is over!".

Great comeback from India. Saffers bat deep though.

from cricinfo:
"7.3 Sreesanth to Kallis, OUT, Sreesanth! good length delivery, in the channel outside the off stump, drifting in with the arm and shaping away after hitting the deck. Kallis tentatively pushes forward to defend and is beaten by the movement. Thick edge and the ball flies low towards the slip cordon. Laxman at second slip keeps his eye on the ball even though Ganguly was diving across from third slip and takes a fantastic low catch."

is it just me or is ganguly doing everything he can to stay in the limelight! ha ha, well its good in one way. if it inspires him to play at his very best, dada is just as destructive as any other player in the world.

India on the verge of creating history ..Now they can thrash SA and lay claim to the title of No 2 team in the world ..

I just love the fact that India have finally seen sense and brought back a couple of the best batsmen in the world over the past 6-7 years, in Ganguly and Laxman. People like Raina and Mongia do not deserve to play ahead of these guys. Tey are seriously good players!! A batting lineup with Sehwag, Dravid, Tendulkar, Ganguly and Laxman is fantastic sight, and will undoubtedly have lifted the entire team.

this is unimaginative captaincy. the bowlers are tiring. they are both into the 8th over of their spells. how effective can they be in their 9th over on the trot? i say bring in vrv and kumble.

Errr....... they had a long lunch break after they bowled 4 overs each.

i think its been discussed to death why players such as raina and mongia are in the squad. the primary criterion for selection is the under 19s and there the likes of raina, kaif and gambhir have done exceptionally well.

i still feel that raina and kaif (and even gambhir) shoudl remain in the mix of things for ODIs but in test matches, laxman is peerless.

just curious, has a team ever been dismissed inside of one session? and has there been any instance when only one or less batsmen have managed double figures?

its a 3 match series...no point exhausting them at the beginimg of series ..!

haha. thats the beauty of pace and bouncy wicket. the saffies thought they would get away. lol seems like they have set bait for themselves by preparing such a track :))) :))) :))) :))) :))) :)))

Let's see if South Africa can 'do a Pakistan' now.

Problem is subcontinent pitches will ease out after some time. South African pitches are not going to ease out. It will retain its juice for longer periods. Add to the fact Saffers are great chokers.

i think dravid is going to ask smith to come back again to bat!!!
seems like India wanna win the match today :)) :)) that's gonna be real shame if saffies get bowled out 2nd time 2day :))) :)))

Well we still managed to skittle India on the 'eased out' pitch in their first and second innings.

a dubious distinction currently held by bangladesh and the "post robert mugabe" zimbabwe.

Guys, be honest, has the pitch changed from when the Indian innings was being played? I'm not watching so I have no idea. Well done nonetheless!

actually the first inning display is what cost us the match. of the top six, three were out to pathetic shot selection and the whole bungled opening fiasco where dravid was being wasted as an opener. in the second inning, the team was hardly "skittled", they scored over 300. tendulkar and laxman were bowled to delieveries that kept woefully low, there was again the problem of opening, furher compounded with dravid and laxman opening as sehwag had to leave the ground for ten minutes during pakistan's second innings. and again, sachin fell to a delievery that kept disasterously low.

if anyting its got easier to bat , when india batted it was two paced as some of the balls kept low..its not happening anyomre as the pitch has dried!

they wiil ,cos I cant see pakistan scoring 250 on this pitch! ;-)
lets not kid ourselves, currently both teams have comparable batting strengths. remove moyo and suddenly a significant rift opens up.

i think there is some truth to that. when india first came on, there were these "damp spots" where the covers had not done a good job or preventing moisture from bleeding into the pitch.

there is certainly no uneven bounce but there was not too much of it when india batted either, so maybe its just marginally easier to bat right now.

However you try to dress it up in that lovely little fantasy world of yours, we thrashed you. Nothing else to it.

Second innings collapse was more to do with a mountainous total that Pakistan had. India/Pakistan matches are not just to do with pitches. Also nerves. India lost it at the critical point. This pitch has prodigious bounce at times. Not easy to slog your way through.

camparable ? yeah may be when playing in multan!

"20.3 Singh to Prince, no run, this one kicks a bit from a length, on the stumps too, Prince wears that one on the knuckles. That will have hurt a fair bit. Prince gets his gloves off in a hurry and the South African physio is on to give him some treatment"

looks like the proverbial glove is on the other hand!

i hope there is a dedicated sledger giving nell some insightful knowledge of his escapades with his wife/girl friend/mother from last night. he can be quite at unease when playing gentlemen, let us help familiarize him.

damn , harper at it agian....kumble had nel plumb there!

Umpires always favour the G.Ora teams. I thought you knew that.
thats crazy talk. just because a controversial umpire pulls aside a bowler who later has his own share of controversies, all umpires are suddenly malevolent rascals! heck no! infact, india's boogyman umpires have been asoka de silva and bucknor. hardly *****.

I know..especially when you tour SA or Aus !

kumble gets 2 wickets !

84/9

hom many time have you seen ponting give out LBW before he reaches his century?

Good to see the Indians shut the Saffies up about their 'all out pace' option vs Subbie teams!

Maybe his long stride takes him outside off stump on impact for lots of deliveries??
