What's new

South Africa vs India | 2nd Test | Centurion | Jan 13-17, 2018 | Day 2 | Discussion Thread

shami has been most disappointing bowler yesterday. I guess he will be replaced by bhuvi/umesh in next match.

Looking at the pitch, it has slightly flattened out a bit and there is no lateral movement at all. However bounce is still slightly uneven. I think Rabada will be a threat here.

The way things are going Proteas might end up having a decent 1st Innings score of 320+.

Shami looks good bowler on one day and bad/worse on other day. This has been case with him since long that's why he don't have 5 wicket hauls even after been such a good bowler on many occasion.

Two simple drops by India in 3 bals. Ashwin deserved that wicket as he bowled very well. Kohli sucks in slips

We need to sack which ever idiot is our fielding coach and I would genuinely be happy to pay for someone in SA to go slap Kohli and tell him he is a mediocre fielder who isn't even good enough to be a ball boy at boundary.

Faf du Plessis is my favourite SA player , great example for others to follow. Never give up attitude and amazing leader.

Indian batting will not fail this time - not much in this track

If Rabada just sticks at the crease, and Faf plays his shots, the hosts can get to 400+. The pitch seems to be easy to bat on. Then the Saffer bowlers can make use of their height and experience and do their business.

Ashwin has bowled really well so far.
Another instance where the stats don't tell the complete picture.

Rabada dropped twice on Ashwin.

Faf dropped once.

Poor Ashwin.

Must be feeling disgusted on missing a well deserved 5fer.

Now Faf hits a 4. Insult to injury.

Where is Saha hater R0H1T?

lol.

Happy that Parthiv dropped Amla and Faf at crucial junctures?

: facepalm Another drop off Ashwin's bowling and this time it's Du plessis. Thats 3 drops in the span of 4-5 overs. Could have been 5fer for Ashwin. Pathetic Fielding.

This team deserve to get spanked left right and centre by South Africans.
Idjits!

So Kohli picked dhawan whose great catching skills got SA extra 20-30 runs last time around and now kohli, his new keeper and shami who should have been dropped instead of bhuvi have managed to spill 4-5 chances between them great captaincy for SA Mr. Kohli.

Shami looks like a guy who's only goal in life is to eat as much biryani as he can before the apocalypse comes.

335 thanks to some sweet gifts from indian fielders, else 300 might have been doubtful.

Now we see what indian batsmen do. I would like to see Patel bat, hope he outscores The1

Now see the narcissist self aggrandize his great captaincy by picking ishant while completely ignoring the issue that had he not been this dumb at selections and be this bad at slip fielding we wouldn't have needed ishant and could have bowled them out for 300 instead of 350.

Why would you bowl Maharaj for that one before lunch?

Cos Faf is a smart captain.

1 over before lunch, batsmen would be looking to play off the bowling.

There is something in the pitch for spin. Maharaj is an intelligent bowler.

By getting him on, he could play with the minds of our openers.

6th ball, Vijay inside edges and ball fizzes past short leg.

Gun proactive captaincy.

Compare it to our kaptan who decided its SA so we have to start with pacers and wasted the first 45 mins giving away crucial early morning momentum to SA.

I would bowl a seamer which would means around 2 more minutes of nervy period for the openers.

Good day of cricket upcoming

Entertaining ODI chase by England and now this match should be a good battle.

Oh don't even get me started on that. The guy is an absolute tool when it comes to taking decisions and gets hyper excited too often jumping around the field like a 7 year old .
Should be stripped off captaincy asap .

KL is a potential monster of a player. Can be a success in all 3 formats and in all conditions. I hope Kohli just sticks with him and just let's him bat!

Mahraj could be the key for SA. A little bit of spin in the pitch and he will be bowling to 6/7 right handers. A chance to emchamce his growing reputation.

India 28/0, decent start with the bat.

LOL I remember you used to be great fan of Kohli as captain.

So far hes looked very clueless to me.Even Dhoni wouldn't do some of the things he did

India should score 450. Leave rest to ashwin. He will take care of the second innings chokers

King Kohli looks determined. SA need to get him early, otherwise he will hurt them

Remember hard why i used to be a fan of him?

Was i ever a fan of his tactical skills?

I was a fan of him backing 5 bowler, encouraging Pacers, inspiring leadership on the field...and i still am a fan of him for those qualities.

But hated his decisions during wi tour and now he has 100xed it without learning his lessons.

Become too arrogant these days with little accountability for his moves.

Looking forward to seeing Ngidi - tall fast bowler with a reputation for being pacy. Has made a strong start to his FC career.

Kohli trying to put the pressure back on South Africa with a counter attack . Needs to be careful . But the longer he bats, SA lead will decrease quickly.

Ndidi has bowled in the right channels with great control and has got the odd ball to bounce a bit higher or cut in to the right-handers.

Has made Kohli paranoid about the ball coming back in. He's asking Vijay every ball.

"Ball andar aaya?"

"Yeh wala aaya?"

"Yeh thora aaya!"

Great contest. :))

Fair enough.Always looks more a leader than a tactician.

Not sure about his consistency in treatment of pacers tho.Too random at times.

Get Kohli cheaply. They need to keep it tight. Would need Maharaj to keep it tight as morlkel and rabada can go for runs

Vijay advising Kohli to stand a bit outside the crease to Rabada.

Loving the stump-mic chatter. Adds a different dimension to the game when you know what the batsmen are thinking and discussing strategies to counter the opposition.

Kohli hadms to calm himself down. The whole match depends on him

He has been fine. No rash shots. Hasn't looked to drive much either. Just punished the deliveries on his pad. Don't let his SR fool you, this has been a risk-free innings so far. Let's see if he can maintain this because as you said he's the key for India.

Ngidi not really bringing the ball away from the right hander.

Yep. Has got the odd one to cut back in though. First time watching him bowl, don't think his wrist position will help him much in bringing the ball away from the batsman.

Philander is on to keep things right and force a mistake. I would have liked to see Mahraj get a bowl as there is something in it for the spinners.

Not trying to jinx him but Kohli genuinely looks imperious out there today. Middling almost everything, leaving well, and even the forward defenses have a certain authority about them.

He's in the zone and he knows it. Expect him to be absolutely gutted if he doesn't go on to make a big score from here.

His feet is moving so well today. Needs to cash in

maharaj looks easy. these 2 need to get big runs. best indian batsmen overseas along with rahane

I want India to win but Maharaj to take the most of the wickets so that his average do not get disturbed.

SA management must be cursing the curator. He should be sacked imo.

Last over before Tea, Vijay leaving most deliveries.

Kohli to Vijay : "Shaba! Araam araam se khelte reh, inki ***** phatt jaye gi."

Had me in stitches. :))) :)))

Curator what have you done.this is not looking good.
Chill man...south africa won the toss..if india had won this toss, match wud have been over in 3 days like all the matches in india happened last time around..

Looks like the stump mics are turned on this series. Did anyone catch Kohli in that last over before tea: "Agar shaam tak khelenge toh iske ***** fategi?" :91:
