Great to start any Test on Friday night.

SRL has won the toss; so, I guess, unless it rains for 2 Days, it's going to be 3-0. Australia is pathetic against spin, but they are hard done by luck as well. The 2nd Test was played on a surface which probably gives almost an innings length handicap to the side batting first, and this one looks like similar. To their credit, SRL also won a Test after 117 in 1st innings & from 0/4 (86/4) stage.

I am not sure about AUS's team selection - one Mitch Marsh wasn't enough, they have added Henriques. I am not sure what they are going to do with 2 pacers, 2 medium pacers & 2 spinners with only 4 specialist batsman. This is a team spell bound to bat first - may on Day one Aussies could have raced away to 350 with those all-rounders, but I don't think batting 2nd, it helps much.

May be, this one'll be even bigger win than the 2nd Test.

Still got five wickets in hand going into lunch so not all bad.

I remember them using Henriques even in India tours. In the absence of a good enough spinner they reckon it's better to load up on trundlers who can bat a bit.

You know what, given how this series has progressed, that is a match winning position!

If you are backing Srilanka, you'll be fine with anything more than 175.

The pitch has big turn on Day 1, so obviously it won't be easy to bat on, and Aussies should be all at sea.

That said anything less than 100 would still leave them under big pressure, so a crucial session coming up.

SL mucking up our chances to go no.1, come on you Lions don't become kittens all of a sudden!

This Dhananjaya is a fighter. Decent technique and always chips in with 30s and 40s. Has the potential to score more.

On recent form Chris Woakes, overall I think Jimmy as Steyn is out, he's also no.1 in the rankings iirc.

Lol Woakes is yet to produce something good outside of England.

Jimmy is good but he isn't as lethal on flat tracks like Starc.

:))

Minnowish batting from both sides really barring Mendis. He has been the difference between the two teams with the bat thus far.

Only Mendis and de Silva have scored 150+ this series. Next best in the 120s and only seven bats all up have gone past the 100 runs mark. Those are just dreadful numbers especially when you consider that Herath and Dilruwan have scored 80/90 odd runs each.

I think the problem is that Australia will go back to flat track bullying when the series is over but we will still bat like this even on the flatties in Australia.

Is there even a point in playing 2 openers anymore.

Clearly captaining this side has taken a toll on Mathews' batting. No more Mahela and Sanga there to hold his hands.

Not good reading that.

They have done well away tho haven't they? :)) But yeah Silva's hole diggin doesn't help one bit. Sends out the wrong message from the get go.

Hope Karuna scores a few next dig. The guy has potential just needs some time me thinks. Given how poor SL domestic set-up is have to be patient.

On another note looks like Starc has finally found his groove with the red cherry.

Starc finding his way in test cricket never doubted that he would. But come on SRI Lanka!!!!

The only reason I like silva is that he is a wizard at short leg. But both have to go.

Of ALL teams, Australia actually has the lowest team batting average in Asia. Let's just remember that.

What a brilliant hundred for Dhananjaya de Silva, great comeback by SL.

Could have declared a while ago though, 100 would be enough for Aus...

What an amazing performance. Each test a youngster / new guy has stood up.

Of course the ultimate youngsta beauty Herath is omnipresent.

man oh man this wicket is spinning big. spin seems doubly hard to play with the harder new ball

Mark Cosgrove has hit four hundreds in county cricket this season. Australia should seriously think about calling him up, it doesn't matter if he likes to eat a dozen parothe with each meal as long as he's scoring runs! :nasir

7/299 at lunch. Get to 350 and that'll be way too much for Australia, plus it also brings in the psychological scoreboard pressure into play. Also the longer they are kept out there, the more wear will accrue on the pitch and the more tired the Australians will be. So although there's probably already more than enough, the job's still not yet done.

Chandimal has made a 300 ball century, fantastic knock.

What is it with Lanka? Everybody has a familiar last name but a totally new first name, meaning they're a player we don't know about yet.

I mean, on today's scorecard there is a MDKJ Perera and another MDK Perera lower down. And I know for certain there's a third guy called Thisara Perera but he's not either of the above.

Full marks for diversity eh?

Australia holding up their end of the bargain for Pakistan.

Chandimal you little champion, all of a sudden the sri lankan team is become quite a force, with dhananjay's fantastic knock and mendis playing a brute of an innings all is not lost for sri lanka, seeing lankans rise, warms the cockles of my heart, just brilliant for the game of cricket. Rise lanka :)

He is NLTC Perera.

You might also remember young mystery bowler Akila Dananjaya from the 2012 World T20, he is MKPAD Perera

The seam bowling will be improved with the return of Prasad and Chameera, too.

The batting is still the main concern, the openers are really poor.

Herath is off the field after being hit while batting. Hope he'll be back on soon!

Smarsh looks so much more assured against spin than Burns did

Off spin at both ends with the new ball. Should have let Lakmal bowl from one end IMO

Warner is a FTB. Doesn't have the temperament to he considered an atg as well

Its a gradual process but they will eventually get there i am certain of that the signs are impressive.

Australia needs to play attacking cricket vs Herath & Dilruwan and play defensive cricket vs Sandakan.

Well batted de Silva and Chandi great fightback. Props to Smith and S Marsh as well, especially Marsh. Probably the most solid an Aussie bat has looked this entire series. That too after fielding at short leg/silly point throughout most of the morning and afternoon. Was probably looking forward to an ice bath for once :))

Maybe ya jinxed the poor guy he shelled two close in catches yesterday as well :))

The issue is who is going to replace them tho? SL have SA/Zimboks next up so even KJP might not be such a good idea at the top. With de Silva and Chandi firing down the order messing around with their positions might make things even worse. So should at least stick with one of the openers for the time being imo. I honestly wouldn't mind if they stick with both of them actually until the SA series is over. Going in with a totally inexperienced top order to SA probably not the best idea me thinks.

apparently sanath brought in tharanga for training before the test against the new ball. i really don't want to see him back in the test side in any capacity, let alone opening.

yeah KJP might have been pushed up the order cos he can take on the bowling and scores quick enough..not sure if this is going to work in the long run either. chandi averages close to 60 batting where he does now so moving him would be stupid.

the only solution left is to bring back the chosen one - lahiru thirimanne :lara

Herath has a groin injury, not using his left foot to give that umpf and therefore he isn't spinning much or making that ball dip. 3rd drop catch.

Man Herath you just had to get injured now...

Please win this game..

Can someone explain what the hell is going on reg the pitch?

Has the track flattened out or SL spinners bowling poorly or Aussies playing incredibly well?

225/1 on a true spinning pitch is almost impossible for any side let alone Aussies.

I don't like this at all, Australia were supposed to score 20/235, not 1/235
