The 'Ramadan Kareem' Thread

It doesn't, but processed sugar has its side-effects.

Yes of course, especially fructose. But this conundrum seems to suggest that there is no way to fast healthily as either you lose muscle mass or you eat a lot of sugar.

Ramadan Kareem

'O you who have attained to faith! Fasting is ordained for you as it was ordained for those before you, so that you might remain conscious of God..'
Q2:183

'It was the month of Ramadan in which the Qur'an was [first] bestowed from on high as a guidance to man and a self-evident proof of that guidance, and as the Standard by which to discern the true from the false. Hence, whoever of you lives to see this month shall fast throughout it; but he that is ill, or on a journey, [shall fast instead for the same] number of other days. God wills that you shall have ease, and does not will you to suffer hardship; but [He desires] that you complete the number [of days required], and that you extol God for His having guided you aright, and that you render your thanks [to Him].
Q2:185

Ramadan is the ninth month of the Islamic Calendar; the Revelation of the Qur'an, to the Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) occurred over a 23-year period, and was completed shortly before his death.

The Qur'an details the purpose of Revelations, makes constant reference to the preceding Scriptures - the Torah, Books of the Prophets, Psalms of David and Gospels - as well as to the Hebrew Prophets (pbut).

The Qur'an also explains God's Will, Word and Way, the means by which all things flow into and out of existence; that everything is subject to Him, and surrenders to the natural laws instituted by Him.

The name of His Religion is not derived from any individual, ethnicity or nation, but is independent of them all: 'Islam' means 'Submission' - in effect, those who believe in God have submitted themselves to His Will. In practice, submission means honouring the Covenant entered into with Him - which is reflected in Faith - by obeying His Commands, following His Guidance, and implementing His Laws, in order to create just and equitable communities and societies.

Wa Llahu 'Alam
And God Knows Best

Ramadan Mubarak guys!

Unfortunately, can't enjoy the first half much due to exams. :( Still, the atmosphere around is absolutely brilliant!

Mamoon Dr_Bassim What is your opinion on fasting from a health perspective?

Fasting is obligatory for 30 days. There are many benefits of fasting, but of course, the real issue is, if you are able to fast while being healthy.

So people who do not have enough strength , who are ill, who are suffering from diseases, have no obligation to fast.

But in essence, from a scientific point of view, I see no real benefit of fasting except that your kidneys have the ability to work harder, and your body breaks down muscle faster.

However, spiritually fasting is very beneficial for the soul.

Not the answer you want, I know.

Last 10 days/nights.

Come on guys, let's indulge in as much worship as we can. May not get to see these moments again...

Roza Lag Raha Hai. . .quite hard to describe the post Iftar happiness

Jummah-tul-Wida and then the 27th night guys.

Just do as much ibadah as you can. There's literally no better time.

May Allah (SWT) accept all of our efforts.

It's actually quite scary how fast this month has passed, especially compared to last year.

I am actually sad that this blessed "guest" is leaving us:(.The atmosphere Ramadan creates is just amazing, loving every single minute of it even though I am fasting 21 hours. Allah SWT really gives strength. May we witness this month year after year In sha Allah:)

In Sha Allah, and you're absolutely right. The atmosphere this month brings is just on another level.

IAJ couldn't have said it better myself.

Can't believe it's over in 4 days...

This Ramzan is very special for me because of lots of reason. Also went for iethikaaf in one of the last 10 days (for the first time in my life). Hope Allah shower his blessings on all of us.:)

The moon has not been sighted in South Africa. So we will not be fasting tomorrow but Ramadan Mubarak to all those who will be fasting tomorrow

Um dreading ramzan a bit this time

May it be easy and bountiful for all

Ramzan Mubarak to all. Please forgive me if I have ever caused any of you any pain.

Square Drive, my Arab friend says that Shaitan being chained up is just a Pakistani myth. Are you sure it's true or not?

Haha I'm pretty sure it's actually true. My local Masjid is dominated by Arab Imams and I'm sure they've mentioned Shaitan being locked up before.

Ramadan Mubarak to everyone!

Insh'Allah the full blessings and benefits of this month will be bestowed upon everyone.

Taraweeh Day 1 was amazing Masha'Allah. Gave me chills. Great atmosphere and great feeling!

Suhoor in a couple hours.

I haven't found a place. Will look tomorrow. It's downtown Toronto so I am sure there will be loads of places close by. Most of my Muslim friends are gone for the summer so I don't know who to ask...

Oh true.

I'm guessing Madinah Masjid will be too far from you.

Can't recall too many other major ones Downtown...

Am I the only one here who is a zombie at Sehri?

It's incredibly simple this year because Sehri is only a couple of hours after Taraweeh, so don't have to fall asleep and then get back up.

Yep felt great yesterday, iA the rest if the month will go smoothly.

Tropical places are the best during Ramzaan. Our prayer timings are like:

Maghrib at 6:46pm
Ishaa at 8pm
Taraweeh at 8:45pm
Sehri at 4am and fajr at 4:45am.

I have huge respect for you guys especially those in Norway, UK, Canada and up north.... because i don't think i will be able to do it for 1 whole month even if i wish to...:)

Haha - my gym closes after like 11 so I can't go even if I wanted to after Taraweeh. :moyo

How's the first fast been for you - personally I haven't felt hungry or thirsty but I'm lacking in energy?

That is around 14-15 hours which is shorter than here by a significant margin (18 hours or so), but the temperatures in your region IMO make up for the shorter timings, it must be difficult to do basic menial tasks at temperatures of 35 degrees and above.

I prefer to go before iftar, that way you have more time for prayers nourishment etc.

True but we have mansoons (rain) coming this month. So i guess it will less severe this time.;-)

Ramadan Mubarak to all. It's first Roza let's see how it goes couldn't able to eat more than a chapati and glass of milk. This whole month is free for me I don't think it's going to be a problem until and unless I step outside from my house.

You are reducing Ramzaan to a set of rituals that one is forced to follow. It is meant to be a spiritual exercise to increase your faith in the Almighty and strengthen your relationship with humanity. Please don't forget what is its essence and spend each day waiting for iftar.

My first roza living alone. No grand iftari. Just made what I make for lunch

Feeling seriously hungry at the moment.....:danish

still 6 more hours to go till iftaar !!

how long is it for you and how is weather?

bro the weather and timings remain the same every year since this is a tropical country. Sehri is at 5:30 am and Iftaar is at 7:12 pm everyday.

Plus all this rain is really frustrating. :sanga

Urrrgggghhhh !!! Why does the time slow down so much in Ramadan :livid: :livid: :livid:

Still 1 hour 30 minutes left.............................

i had a whole coke can by mistake today lol. feel guilty now

Yea bro my energy has been mad low for the first few fasts.

That won't stop me from bowling killer leg-breaks in my backyard though.
:yasir

Wont stop me from bowling fast either:wasim

Jokes it will, but I still bowl for 20-30 minutes when there is less than an hour to iftaar.

I wish I had your fast lol. 3+ hours less than us.

Does anyone know of an iftar transmission I could watch/listen to on my laptop in the UK?

The most difficult Roza time, 2-7 pm in the office, is underway. 5 more hours to go now......

Does anyone know of an iftar transmission I could watch/listen to on my laptop in the UK?

ary one has afridi, wasim badami

geo one has usual chaypana with some actor (dont know his name but he is everywhere these days)

amir liauquat is on bol news

i personally feel that these are tooo long (4 hrs or so) and hence its impossible to follow

Who else is missing Ramadan? :(

Still stuck in the Ramadan schedule.

Sleep after Fajr and wake up at 2 pm.

So sad that ramadan is over, 29 days just flew by, so much for people who were saying that is gonna be hard cos they are lengthy, particularly in scotland whereby we had to fast for 19 hours a day but it was fine allhamdulillah.

Didn't mind fasting but I'm glad it's over because I was running low on protein.

I meant that the feeling of awkwardness you get while having breakfast after Ramadan, when you are used to fasting at that time of the day, makes a funny scene during the first couple of days after Ramadan.

Oh acha, your initial post was a very naughty one, talking about having breakfast during Ramadan. :inzi :ghalib

Bump.

That time of the year again folks. :)

Feeling the Ramadan vibes even though there's still a day and a bit to go.
