^ Going quite well Alhamdulillah but I start tiring a bit around this time. The last ashara coming up and I pray that Allah (swt) gives us all the taufeeq to worship him during Al-Qadar.
Last year's Ramadan was a lot better since I was in Jamaat the whole time.
^ Ramadhan Mubarak Yes it came fast, and we are lucky that Allah SWT once again has given us an opportunity to fast and gather all the blessings. We need to enjoy this lovely guest as it will be leaving again in 29/30 days.
Mamoon how long does it take to complete 8 Rakahs there?
Here, at our local Masjid, it takes 2 hours and a few minutes to complete everything, including Witr. However, in a Musallah nearby, Taraweeh + Witr finished in an hour and about 30 minutes.
Prayed 12 at the Masjid on day 1, and then studied 2 hours for my exam, only to wake up all drunk the next morning due to a lack of sleep lol.
Day 2, prayed 20 at the Musallah. Was pretty smooth.
Will probably go to the Masjid tonight and pray 8.
I have two mosques in my locality, one does khatam in 27 days, the other is on turbo-mode and does it in 12 days. Generally, I go to the former one, but this time (may Allah swt forgive me) I decided to do the 12 day khatam, and it takes 1 hour and 15 minutes to do the full 20 rakaats, so you can do the math.
~ 2 hours and a few mins is the regular time, and definitely the better option. InshAllah I'll try to do 20 from tomorrow onwards, and from next time on, I won't do the 12 day khatam, I feel guilty.
Firstly, thanks for quoting me!
Hmm, I see.
So wait - the one that finishes the Qur'an in 12 days takes only 75 minutes per day to finish what, 2.5 paras (30/12)?!
Good to see you realize your mistake, even though it is not really a huge mistake and is permissible.
You are welcome.
Yeah, Maulvi sai speed lagata hai, but for me it defeats the purpose and it shows a lack of sincerity both on his and the people who decide to do 12 day khatam, as if they simply want to get done with it.
As far as I know, there is no official ruling on how many days you should do the khatam in, but 12 days khatam to me seems a little dodgy.
I know people who do 5 day taraweeh ) I once went for a day. It was so fast that you could barely understand what the guy reciting was saying
I used to do 15 day taraweeh when i was back home at my mamoo's house as they used to have it in their house only. But the guy used to recite very clearly and at decent pace aur 2+ ghantay lag jatay the.
But its
5 day taraweeh lol, that's one sonic Mullah.

US mai taraweeh mai maza nahi aata. Actually pooray Rammzan main. First and prolly last Ramzan here. I guess its different for ppl who have their whole family with them.
Similar stuff happens in my neighborhood, it is so pathetic to see.
The tablighis who built the mosque have their differences with the head Maulvi, and they promote their own haafiz children. Last year, in the same mosque, we had two different maulvis holding taraweeh on the first and ground floor , and those who decided to do with the main Imam would offend the tablighis, ridiculous.
This year, they decided to do so in their own house instead of the mosque, and they keep inviting people in the neighborhood.
Lol some hilarious posts in this thread. Pakistan really is a circus.
lolol ) That's ridiculous man.
A khatam is not necessary just mustahabb(recommended) by the Hanafis and Hanbalis. You are welcome.

I see, it was never the case in my neighbourhood.quite common actually
lot of masjids have 2 diff taraweehs on different floors.
though i doubt its allways a problem between the 2
one maybe 15 day other 21 days so people can pick and choose
the aim of taraweehs seems to be finishing the 30 paras by hook or by crook tbh. so theres always ppl who want to get done as soon as possibleA khatam is not necessary just mustahabb(recommended) by the Hanafis and Hanbalis.
Good on you on going to the longer one. The sonic Mullahs should always be avoided.
are you from Pak?I see, it was never the case in my neighbourhood.
Islamically speaking, the aim is to listen to the Qur'an. What they've turned it into is another matter.the aim of taraweehs seems to be finishing the 30 paras by hook or by crook tbh. so theres always ppl who want to get done as soon as possible
Yes. I couldn't stop laughing myself either.are you from Pak?
when were you there last? its certainly not a uncommon thing
couple of years ago i told this to my dads friend in the US (who hasnt been to Pak in 20 yrs) and he was surprised too and found it really funny. Too funny actually. Was cracking for a good 15 mins or so lol. Found it awkward
Coming from a clown.
No need for disgraceful 'Pakistanis' like you on PakPassion. You may leave this 'circus'.
Mera dil tor diya jaanu.
On a side note, I find it funny and depressing at the same time when people in Pakistan call it Ramadan instead of Ramzaan. Be Pakistani, not Arab.
Another small example of the Arabization of Pakistanis.
+1
Though we get the 'zaal' from the Persian influence, so you could argue that we shouldn't be Persian, and just pronounce it "Ramjaan" like the Indians

8 is the minimum people feel they have to do. Due to a hadith about the prophet reading 8 rakaats one night in Ramadan i think. Plus Ahl-e-hadith/wahabi mosques only read 8 rakaats.Ive always wondered what is the significance of 8 rakats
why do so many ppl leave at 8 and not say 6 or 4 or 12 or sth
majority who leave early do it at 8
for me its either 20 rakat or no taraweek
How do you guys pray 3 witr in jamat at your mosque, after taraweeh
my mosque does it differently to how ive been taught

The correct pronunciation is Ramadan and not Ramzaan. It's an Arabic word not an Urdu word and there is no 'Z' in Arabic it is instead pronounced as 'D'.
You can pray 2 and 1 or 3 together. How does your mosque do it?
ive done it as 3 at home and in the 3rd rakat after the surah.. you do takbir and recite a dua
My mosque has done both 2 and 1.. and the 3.. but when they do 3 theres no takbir after the surah in the 3rd rakat.. and sometimes the dua is done in 3rd rakat before ruku.. and sometimes after ruku
What a write-off this Ramadan has been for me.
Why is that?
Wasted it. Just didn't get in the spirit of it all this year. Fasted the entire month but didn't do anything over and above that I would usually do. Ah well, hope I get to see next Ramadan.
Shame on this forum leaving it to a non Muslim to bump this thread.
In all seriousness enjoy the holiday this year.

Mamoon Dr_Bassim What is your opinion on fasting from a health perspective?
It's good, if you don't over-eat. However, if you follow a healthy diet plan anyway, you are not going to get anything out of it.
Dr_Bassim will put a religious spin on it though, and try to bring up the benefits of fasting from the POV of Islamic medical science. I have nothing to say on that matter.
But, without over-eating, won't you lack energy and lose weight?
Depends on your level of exertion. Most people are physically inactive this month.
What's more important is to eat the right food, instead of unloading on pakoras and jugs of sugary drinks.

Well, even if you're physically inactive, your daily expenditure will still be 1500 kcal+. So I assume sugary drinks are actually very important.
Drink lassi.
Consuming 3-4 glasses in one go isn't though, which is what happens regularly here.
While breaking fast, they drink Rooh Afza and while having dinner, they will drink coke. This is not good IMO.
I'm planning to survive on water only this time, will try not to drink juice/coke.
Let's see how it goes.
Which comes with the territory of only having a few hours to eat enough. Protein is not very good for Ramadan as it requires a decent amount of energy to be broken down in the first place. Fat food is decent and slow digesting enough but it can't provide sugar to the brain so sugary drinks are capital for anyone hoping to make it through healthily if you ask me.
Which is why a lot of people suffer from sugar hangover in Ramzan, which makes you tired and lethargic as well.
Moderation is key, and the intake of sugar should be minimized. Your body will learn to adjust.
The body doesn't learn to adjust in such a short time. It takes at least two weeks before fat breakdown replaces protein breakdown. Which is also where the tiredness comes from since people are basically surviving on losing muscle.
Why is why one should reduce intake of processed sugar in general.
How does that help with alanine breakdown? Besides the fact that it takes longer to digest which, of course, is useful in a fasting scenario.
