The Wrestling Discussion Thread

What an overbooked mess of a match. Just how i wanted it. That was the magic Wrestlemania needed.
Best Main event of Wrestlemania in over 10 years.
The Rock - Undertaker showdown was unexpected. I thought Austin would have been the one to take him out.

Tears in my eye seeing Undertaker at Wrestlemania again. This match was peak Attitude era.

If they put all the matches on one night and all being big matches, the crowd will get exhausted pretty quickly by 4th or 5th match. It's WWE's strategy to put filler matches in between so the crowd pumps back once a big match comes up. Mania 2022 was done very well. There were similarly 7 matches each night but it felt magical. Even the matches like Sami Zayn vs Johnny Knoxville delivered there. Austin Theory vs Pat McAfee was for some reason the most enjoyable thing on the show.
Trips booking lacks the magic. He is usually just interested in giving well wrestled matches. Variety of matches has been lacking. Would have been great had they made the US title match a 6-8 men ladder match. Hopefully the mainevent will deliver.
Wrestlemania doesn’t need to have 15-16 matches. They could have 9-10 matches like they used to back in the day and just have 3-4 hours long show. I know that they won’t go back to one night only Wrestlemania again, as there is more money to be made with two nights, but it is quite exhausting to watch two consecutive nights of a pay per view.

Yes but I liked it. Trips need to work on adding grandiosity to the booking like the main event. (Doubt he produced it. Heyman, Rock, Roman etc would have been heavily involved in it). That's the sort of silliness you need to pop the crowd at Mania. Trips lack that knack. Vince was brilliant with it.

Triple H seems like he is all about the moves in the ring. He seems like he will be perfect Booker for some indie show.

But wwe has always been about more than that. WWE is about storytelling even if the in ring action isn’t great. That is why attitude era was the best and why this main event was so perfect. It told a great story.

Story complete.

Now time for burial.

Also priest cash in was predictable (duh!!) but so satisfying.

Triple H put more effort into getting the on-screen talent to put him over as the new leader and what not, what an embarrassment. Throughout both nights there were numerous references to how great he is, what a leader he is and how it is his era now, he got this new humble gimmick going so couldn’t grab a mic, at heart he will always have the heart of the piece of crap who wanted to bury everything in sight and put himself in the limelight.

This is his typical booking for big shows, they will lack the drama and mad genius if Vince. So many pedigrees during the matches, somebody Check on Hunter to see if he still ok after watching them….

As a UK viewer it is extremely exhausting but as someone who may attend the event in person, the two nights is spot on imo

I attended WM35 which was the last mania to be one night only, and it lasted like 6-7 hours and a lot of people couldn’t get travel from New Jersey back to New York because the train stopped running just before midnight and had a deal with WWE only to do an x number of runs, I was lucky to get on the train alongside thousands of others but many missed out. And a 6-7 hour show is just mental.

Both Night 1 and 2 have been about 4 hours each which is not too bad when you are attending there and you have time to grab a quick bite before bed to

Real ones know this was when the story was actually finished - the emotion says it all here, winning the most prestigious championship in wrestling and the title his father won

Cody joins AJ Styles and Buddy Rogers as the only men to win both NWA and WWE World Championships

Ah as a big Seth Rollins hater, I enjoyed the spankings he recieved last night, from getting his teeth kicked in by Drew to the sweet sound if the steel chair giving him a wack, finally we can move away from a Kusrah holding a world championship.

Seth can now focus on going for one of the womens world championships

What a class act Roman Reigns has been as champion, you never hear a bad word about this guy, he shows up to grind and rarely complains about anything. Many would have liked to see him work more dates but I think he has made the most of his appearances that it wasn’t noticeable to me and you protect your star attraction from being overexposed. As for his record breaking title run, I need to let it sink in a bit more, but it might just be the best championship run this century; the ring quality is there, ring/mic presence, a number of compelling stories have been told and the important bit, those he worked with have been elevated even in defeat. I can’t recall a bad Reigns promo, match or feud during his entire run, his presentation has been stellar. In the background he has been dealing with his own health issues to following the cancer and while he’s still in remission, he has to take chemo everyday which is a battle in itself. The guy genuinely is somebody wrestling fans can be proud to call their champion, a real mard. What we have witnessed is truly special and may not repeat during our lives.

I acknowledge my tribal chief.

Big task ahead for Hunter and co, Vince was an expert at scouting the next big name and eventually, finding a way to get them over. Will be interesting to see what they do with Cody because their booking of other championship runs have been poor

Drew McIntyre BEATS Seth Rollins to become the new WWE World Heavyweight Champion at WrestleMania 40...but loses it to Damien Priest moments later thanks to CM Punk!

Drew McIntyre's future with the company is still up in the air, but he at least though he now held a valuable bargaining chip after winning the World Heavyweight Championship at WrestleMania 40 - and he did, for about three minutes.

The Scot opened night two with Seth Rollins and immediately hit him with a Claymore Kick to kick off the match.

It was a fast-pace affair with both men emptying their tanks from the get-go. Rollins did hit a pedigree and he landed a stomp onto the top of the announce table, but four claymore kicks over the course of the match is what it took to get the job done.

But after CM Punk attacked a gloating McIntyre, Priest took advantage of the beat down and cashed in his Money in the Bank contract.

Punk even whipped off his arm brace during the attack - and hit McIntyre with it - but he's still not expected to truly compete for a few months yet.

Priest got McIntyre in the ring and all it took was one chokeslam for the 41-year-old to get the job done.

The Judgment Day man has held onto the briefcase for 10 months and picked the perfect moment in front of 70,000-plus fans in Philadelphia.

It was only one night earlier where Priest lost the undisputed tag team titles.

McIntyre's WWE deal is still set to expire at the end of May and while there is hope an agreement can be reached, nothing has been signed thus far.

The Scottish Warrior has discussed extending his deal just so he can perform at Clash at the Castle: Scotland in June.

However, there is every hope the two sides can still negotiate a long-term deal.

With a feud against a returning CM Punk in the offing, one would think he has heavy incentive to stay.

They created a lot of interest with new Wrestlemania, and I trust netflix to do a better job at PR as well.

Good time for Wrestling fans.

Tony Khan is actually going to air the backstage footage of CM Punk’s altercation with Jack Perry

AEW Dynamite’s ratings have dropped to concerning low points in recent weeks, so I’ve been expecting a teaser for one of Tony Khan’s HUGE ANNOUNCEMENTS to drop any day.

We definitely got something along those lines on this weekend’s (Apr. 6) episode of Collision. Early in the episode, Tony Schiavone said the Young Bucks will have a massive announcement for next week’s Dynamite. It was later clarified that Matthew and Nicholas will “present backstage footage from All In: London and will discuss it for the first time.”

All In: London is the event where CM Punk and Jack Perry had a backstage altercation that led to Punk’s termination from AEW and Perry’s move to NJPW. At the time, there was a report going around that said video footage exists of whatever went down between Punk and Perry.

Given Punk’s Brawl Out history with the Young Bucks and all the NDAs that have kept everyone silent about it, it sure looks like AEW wants fans to think Matthew and Nicholas are going to drop some dirt about Punk on next week’s Dynamite, at least in regards to what happened at All In with Perry.

Punk recently talked all about the Perry incident in an interview with Ariel Helwani and said there are no NDAs in regards to that one, so I think the idea is the Bucks will now present some damning evidence against his side of the story. The Bucks did send a message of support to Perry on this week’s Dynamite, so this would be the next step in potentially exposing Punk as a liar.

For whatever it’s worth, F4WOnline’s Bryan Alvarez and other outlets are saying this is not another Bucks troll job or bait-and-switch. Tony Khan actually plans to air the Punk/Perry footage on Dynamite:

That's why the mainevents of both nights stood out as they most definitely had The Rock and Paul Heyman's input.

midget mindset. He kept on saying all of that had nda's about it and couldn't be talked about. Now once Punk let it all loose last week, he's throwing tantrums like a baby not knowing what to do. Instead of focusing on ALL in, he should look towards improving his company which he certainly isn't.

I am expecting a Seth-Roman feud now if Roman doesn't take a break before eventual fallout of Roman and Rock

But there's a difference. He booked that match himself. In WWE, it's different. And WWE has been the biggest wrestling promotion for 40 years now.

Let go of your hate towards Seth for a bit. He did well in his match vs Drew. Possibly his best outing since winning the title.

I would have still preferred Austin's return rather than Taker. But great entertainment nevertheless.
I like Austin, he is one of my favourites but his ego probably wouldn’t allow him to make a return and play second fiddle to Cody and Reigns, which is why he didn’t make a return.

Pop for Taker was loud but it would have been ten times bigger had we heard the glass shatter.

Yes, Seth deserves a lot of credit. He is the reason that Cody won the title, and Cody crybabies should remember that.

I think Roman will either take a rest or go into a feud with Seth after watching that Shield stuff eventually costing him the match.

Seth should go join some night club so his fans can go and visit him there, Roman got much bigger things to do then feud with that Kusrah

Honestly, Austin is who he is because of that mindset. In his mind, why play second fiddle in that scenario? he is very protective of everything he does and that match with KO is proof of that more recently, also how can he top that ? we don’t know for sure his reasons, it could have been money etc to and also Hunter is not somebody who has ever been able to brain wash Austin like the others. Anyhow, everybody reported Austin and that’s what we expected due to social media etc I felt with that in mind, Taker was a nice surprise personally! he looked fantastic in there and it made sense with his past rivalries with the Samoans

Long time browser on this thread, first time commenting. I don't usually watch wrestling, but I do keep up with the results of weekly shows and premium live events. However.... What a week of wrestling.

For me wrestlemania won't be remembered as the best ever but it was exactly what it needed to be. Except a few results.

Or it could be that he didn't want anything to do with Trips. He has a history of dislike for Trips since late 90s. I don't think Austin is that much of an egomaniac especially at current age.

I doubt Austin dislikes Triple H. He and Triple H were a tag team in 2001. And lets not forget Triple effed up that one fan who jumped Austin during their match. I don't think Austin not wanting to appear at Wrestlemania has anything to do with his feelings for HHH.

I don't blame Austin for not wanting to play second fiddle to anymore. For me, he is the WWE GOAT and whenever he is inside a WWE ring, he should be the main focus.

My all time favourite Austin/Trips story is that Austin refused to do the job for Hunter so he could win his first world title, he had more respect for Mick Foley so dropped the belt to him who then dropped it to Hunter.

Hunter still talks about that to this day, he was very upset on the career DVD he made which was amusing

He booked that match with KO to perfection, we doubted the opponent but Austin knew what he could get out of KO. In that match remember the table spots and a few other bells and whistles, for that night his match only had those spots so they meant more, he made sure of it, he is spot on that way

I’d like to think Hunter gets on with pretty much everybody these days, I mean he thinks Punk is too reserved! I just personally have never trusted him, it wouldn’t surprise me if he travels everywhere with the WHC in his suitcase and a shovel wrapped in cotton wool

Am watching a video about Dajjal and am being reminded of Trips 🤣

That KO match was way better than anyone thought it would be. KO deserves a lot of credit.

Austin is one of the greatest in ring workers of all time. People often don't give him the credit he deserves for his wrestling ability, because of his brawler and tough SOB gimmick. But Austin's in ring psychology is one of the best, which is why he was able to come back after 19 years and have such an amazing match. It is a shame that he retired so early.

A 7? that’s very charitable of you, I’ve always stuck with the 4/10 as per Bret’s assessment of his abilities. Yeah, though I’ve grown sour on Cena lately, I think Reigns has surpassed him to

Did you watch any of his matches from the early to mid 90’s pre injury? he got hired for his in-ring technical skills by the WWF, and worked a very smooth and clinical wrestling style, he kept up with prime Shawn around 95-96 the two had some amazing traditional wrestling matches (some luckily made it to live broadcast I think there is one from the King Of The Ring PPV). Austin’s ring IQ, fundamentals and psychology were built on that foundation, he had great matches with everyone. When Owen broke his neck, he became more of a brawler then to prolong his career and it suited his character change to, but there was a method behind his aggression and I agree he was a master of controlling the crowd and having an instinctive feel for what to do and when.

What I find very interesting is that Austin worked with Bret and his match at WM 13 is regarded by many as the greatest WM match of all time, but for Austin, the best match he had was on a house show nobody saw, against Shawn Michaels around 95-96, I even thought the WM 14 match was pretty amazing considering the circumstances, the two had insane chemistry.

But for Austin, having worked with both peak Bret and peak Shawn, HBK was the best he ever fought and in his opinion the greatest ring worker of all time

lol i knew you'd bring it up. Trips had a near death experience. He needs to be given a chance to redeem himself bro.
He might have been the worst person in WWE back in the day. But he's some good work since.

Nah Austin was tired of Trips and his Kliq buddies antics behind the scenes. He was fine with dropping the title to anyone other than Trips back in the day.

Not that gullible, he can have a few more near death experiences and he will still look to make everything all about himself. He can’t help himself, he’s the worker at heart. Between Night 1, Night 2 and now RAW, you’d think he died or something going by the number of Hunter tributes which all talent are asked to pay when he can’t big himself up enough without it being noticed. That’s pathetic. Vince was a real leader, never allowed the talent to mention him at all during similar segments.

Watching the opening segment of RAW, Rock was in fine form again and Cody cut a basic promo.

But my god, how many times do they need to remind us it’s the ‘Triple H / Paul’ era, he wasted 10 minutes of expensive TV time to put himself over. Anything he needed to whisper in Cody’s ear could have been done backstage. This goof has had as many people and talent praise him in the past 3 days as Vince has had in 20 years! Am sick of him doing his best to get in on the high wave WWE have been riding. He is the Shan Masood of wrestling, never would have achieved as much without marrying the daughter in law, cuts the same generic promos again and again, very rarely elevated talent during his run and was extremely one dimensional in the ring unless he was in with someone good. His NXT project rightly got shut down because he never personally set any of his guys up for stardom, the whole thing was to milk applause from smarks which he never got in his heyday, Shawn is doing a 10x better job preparing the next generation. It wouldn’t shock me if he and Steph outed Vince, it’s like this whole thing has been so personal for him, we’re going to see him on our screens a lot more often, the so called Chief Of Content will be preparing material to hog our screens as much as possible.

Sick of this mediocre dog and his molvi gimmick.

It was a good episode of Raw, progressed storylines as well as create new ones.

I don't want to admit it but I am looking forward to seeing how they build the Gable Vs Zayn feud. Personally wanted to see Gable dethrone Gunther, however I'll take Zayn Vs Gable.

Tony cheapskate / butt hurt is going to air footage of Punk’s incident with Perry at Wembley, a new low even for this clown. I can’t remotely support AEW in any capacity if this goes ahead @RedwoodOriginal
Feels like something Vince Russo or late 90s WCW would have done. Its really desperate and solidifies AEW as a rinky-dink minor league promotion.

I don't see how this could benefit them and their company's image. I really don't. So you're going to show the footage of a guy, who you can't even name because you're angry about something he said on a freaking podcast?

And the long-term PR disaster this could be for AEW is what makes this even funnier to me.

I guess maybe because Tony has never been in a real fight all his life this is shocking to him. Because all you really need is someone to go ''...that's it?, I've had more violent fights when I was a child in school.'' And then he comes off looking like even more of a clown.

At any rate, I am excited to see this footage because I want to see Punk go UFC on Jungle Jacka**. Will be funny if Punk draws AEW's highest rating in weeks after he has left the company.

Could it be footage completely in contrast to what we know so far 🤔 but then it wouldn’t fit the narrative that Tony Khan feared for his life. What if it’s a meeting between he and Punk or something along those lines. I think they will do a number for sure but it will just belittle their own roster. Apparently Tony has wanted to air the footage for months. Anyhow they are in a position to manipulate it in order to fit their narrative. If they want to be dirty, Ace Steel’s wife didn’t sign no NDA for brawl out….

But this is how desperate he is, rather then address the root problem for his dwindling cosplay business, this is where we are.

After WWE put on arguably ‘THREE’ stadium shows in a row, this is how low we will stoop on Wednesday, a show also promoted by a WWE employee in Punk lol

Yes the tributes were a bit too much for me.
But you can't really say Vince had his flaws as well with banning terms like "hospital", "pro wrestling", "belt" etc. The leaders in the business are POS, and it's unreasonable to expect the top brass of WWE to be upright angels with no flaws. The runners almost everywhere are rotten and have their flaws.

The “don’t break my heart” line was a bit weird ngl 💀

It’s like the final boss owns Cody as his property, that’s the vibe I got, anyway what did he give Cody in his hand am not sure lol

You’re comparing apples with oranges. / top brass directives.

What we’re talking about is Hunter the self promoting vermin, nobody in wrestling history as a lead booker has taken up this much TV time to get themselves over, not like he’s an active talent either and given his past there’s a clear conflict of interest.

It’s 2024 I don’t have time for a Triple H promo or his senseless worship, in fact I had to work an extra 10 min today because that opening RAW segment was too long during my break.

That time could be used better to get the rest of the roster over, not him having to act like some kinda figure of authority who Cody has to pander to when Nick Khan is calling the shots.

He’s a deeply disturbed and insecure individual.

I thought it was the watch Dustin sold to be able to pay for Cody’s classes to become a wrestler.

Not sure though, but that is the first thing that came to mind.

I only watch the big 4 PPVs live. Otherwise 2-3 hours for one show becomes too much for me. Usually just fast forward them and watch a few good segments or some matches.
Like that Indie Hartwell vs Roxanne match was a skip for me.

Man nobody should have to sell something like that, but that’s wrestlers for you in the 70’s and 80’s, lord knows what they spent their paisa on, they certainly wont be taking any of it to their graves 🙈

Eid Mubarak to everyone in this thread, we finally finished our Ramadan story, but it’s time for a new chapter, time for us to turn heel for the rest of the year; joking. May our baby face run continue beyond Ramadan and last longer then Cena’s 2006/2007 title reign.

Khair mubarak bros! Hopefully our face run will continue and our hard work would help us becoming the top face in our worlds.

Khair Mubarak bro, and Eid Mubarak to everyone here.

In Sha Allah our Ramadan is excepted and we get new Muslim talent who go places like Sami and not 12 month contract jobbers who only get a push when there’s shows in Saudi Arabia.

Watched the recent Dynamite. Well AEW is hell bent on destroying any credibility he or his promotion was left with. Even Jericho seems dissociated with AEW right now.

Regarding Edge, so disappointed with him working matches with braindead and dangerous workers like Pentagon Jr or whatever his name is these days. Saw a few bumps/shots he took there that looked quite stiff. He'll be working next with Brodie King who himself looks not well trained to execute moves safely. Although it was good to see Edge moving like a young Edge here, he should be prioritizing his health and safety and only doing feuds with credible guys.

Young Bucks' promo skills and acting skills are worse than 5 year old kids honestly. I mean you have to really try hard to be that bad at talking.

midget mindset. He kept on saying all of that had nda's about it and couldn't be talked about. Now once Punk let it all loose last week, he's throwing tantrums like a baby not knowing what to do. Instead of focusing on ALL in, he should look towards improving his company which he certainly isn't.
Edge after the Punk interview: "We are looking to the future...there are so many positives...look at this roster."

AEW the next week: We are going to show security cam footage of a backstage fight that took place 8 months ago.
