The Wrestling Discussion Thread

That's a good point. The shield as a whole were protected by creative and pushed strong as a unit, for me there was little to separate them in terms of how they were booked which was what made it such a great faction but towards the end of it's tenure creative got a little more behind Roman given that they were going to split the group. They strapped a rocket behind Roman because he was their guy and also because they had to find a way to make him compelling since he no longer could hide is weaknesses, Seth they had huge plans and Ambrose was supposed to be the guy who'd get lost in the shuffle given that he'd be a babyface but Dean found a way to get over and carve out his own identity despite how the machine never backed pushed him as hard as Reigns and Seth.

After the split, Ambrose was the one expected to turn heel and with Seth remaining a face. It was surprise that the roles were reversed. Being a heel comes a lot naturally to Ambrose and for Seth being a babyface plays a lot more to his strengths on the mic. Both have proven their versatility though by going on to achieve critical acclaim in opposite roles to what was expected while Reigns has not improved on any level and relies entirely on how hard creative push him.
In regards to Shield split, do you think it was the right time or they should have kept the faction for a bit longer?

I think it did, Bryan was sett to dominate proceedings on the back of the YES Movements popularity and given how over he was. But then he became injured and had to vacate the belt, it messed up creative's plans a bit. That was a set back and post-wrestlemania when ratings and interest begin to decline the WWE needed something big planned to maintain interest and wrestlers who could fill the void left by Bryan.

The shield breaking up changed the landscape and make life easier for creative; Dean and Seth would go onto feud for a while and in the process carve out their unique identity while the WWE monster pushed Reigns. In the background Cena became the transitional world champion before dropping the belt to Brock. If Bryan had not been injured I think the Shield would have remained together a little longer but if you think about it the split had been teased for months and it came when we least expected it, Bryan going out with an injury must have made it a lot easier for creative to pull the trigger.

I just found out now, it's heartbreaking but not surprising at all. It is strange considering Bryan's doctors have cleared him so not sure if this is a retirement from wrestling in the WWE or if it's an overall retirement from wrestling all together. However, it's a wise decision if true and I feel it's in the best interests of Bryan having followed his career since the beginning, the style he has worked takes its toll. Will pay tribute to his career after RAW unless we get this situation:

:))) that was one of the greatest promo's of the modern era Adil, also Red Devil remember when I fooled everyone like that during the draft in the PPCL :))). Adil it wouldn't have hurt to put the belt on Mark for a short while and man I really loved that run of his.

The main things his health if he got paralysed in the ring it would've been a disaster for WWE. And that was an ATG promo by Mark. I also wanted a short run for him as the champ but he was fed to Cena

Make dua Molana Eugene Kalander. But it's sad but this retirement won't be hard to digest we've been sought of eased to the idea given how Bryan has been inactive for a long time and given his serious injury concerns.

Thing is with Henry he never had any serious neck issues, Bryan is legitimately injured so it would be a surprise if this was a work. Bryans doctors have cleared him so it's possible we could see him in Lucha Underground or NJPW. His career has been incredible though and although it's a shame his injuries prevented him from having a long run with the WWE belt he achieved pretty much thing else. First Ballot hall of famer and one of the if not the greatest technical wrestlers of all time.

That jobbers neck snapped the moment they gave that ugly troll a push, let this be a lesson to all the midgets out there who have stupid ideas of their fragile body's being able to endure the rigours of WWE's intense schedule.

This seems genuine. B-Dazzle is not gonna be booed even if he skins a kitten. So, this turning out to be a work and then him becoming heel does not make sense.

True, they going to use the ratings generated by Bryans retirement to push Roman and make him look strong!

Strangely enough, the match which shot him to stardom at wrestlemania when he lost in a matter of seconds was also his final one in the WWE. Everything comes full circle :))

Daniel Bryan v Sheamus will live forever bah gawd

I admit HHH looks beastly with the title. Heel game 4ever.

He might have been a serial burial expert but his work atleast prior to his quad tear was superb. Cactus Jack vs HHH at rumble 2000 and no way out 2000 were epic.

One of my favorite matches which I saw live on TV was HBK vs HHH at Summerslam 2002. I remember my dad being a giant HBK Mark. The curses that were thrown after the game hit HBK with a sledgehammer twice :)))

I thought HBK was crippled for life. JR sold it that well. :)))

Never liked Daniel Bryan the character, but feel sorry for Bryan Danielson as he'll likely never be able to do what he loves again.

As usual, the Roos revealing their inability to just suck it up. Lack of stomach.

Atleast he didn't go the route of he who must not be named by WWE.
True.

Under a different gimmick I probably would have got behind him.

I just found his gimmick to be too silly and the constant chanting to be annoying.

Is it me or did the WWE limit Reigns airtime because they didn't want him to get booed heavily lol?

Dean once again made to look bad as Reigns sidekick, had to be saved by Reigns and ended up hitting a cheap low blow before running off.

God forbid anyone other than Reigns is made to look strong against Lesnar.. could have atleast hit him with a dirty deeds.

Dean was made to look like a smuck who has no chance on Sunday.

There is another HBK mark right here who did the same thing when Hunter buried HBK at Summer Slam and Armageodan. His name is shaz jobber :)))

This actually sowed the seeds of a subtle heel turn.

WWE might swerve us and have Ambrose go over only for Reigns to exercise his rematch clause and make it a triple threat at Mania. Hopefully, Ambrose wins the title at Mania. Reigns will be booed till the end of time if he wins.

This raw was good even without D Bry's emotional retirement. The crowd seemed into it and the pops felt good.

So DB goes to the HOF next year right? As a first choice HOF?

They can't induct him this year as they've already got a #1 right?

Also, I hope DB is well.

I'm worried about him now after what he said about his latest test.

I don't think we'll ever witness something like that again, everyone wondered whether shawn still had it after that career ending back injury but he never missed a step! forget the injury, when you have such a long lay off there ought to be loads of ring rust after 4 years but shawn was just as good as he was in the 90's. It was incredible match and that feud between HHH and HBK was brilliant. On his comeback Shawn wasn't too into winning titles etc although we got that feel good moment of him winning in the chamber match, J.R literally fell out of his seat :))) go watch that leathers, it was an emotional moment for everyone knowing what shawn had been through and coming back, still being able to go and winning a world title in the garden was very special. After the loss of some big names HHH was going to lead as the top hell in the RA era and they needed Shawn to make/elevate HHH. Great feud.

Absolutely the correct decision to retire and am glad Bryan eventually found the courage to accept that he isn't healthy enough to compete any more, hope he remains in good health and accepts another role within the company; needs to stay away from the ring. When you look at the style he has worked throughout his career it could have been a lot worse. Really emotional retirement speech and probably one of the best I've heard, you'd have to go really far back to find a superstar who had such a unique bond with the WWE fans, the energy he bought to the ring will be missed.

He did it all in the WWE, a grand-slam champion who main-evented a landmark wrestlemania and also proved why he was one of the greatest technicians of all time around the world every night he performed. Punched above his weight for a little guy and carved out a hall of fame career, nice touch by the locker room to come out; Vince looked so proud :)) now there's no stopping the Roman empire :))) jokes aside you could see he was genuinely full of admiration for Bryan. #ThankYouBryan With that, the Bear also takes his retirement from the WWE thread. #ThankYou619

why is there talk for him getting inducted in the HOF ? WWE these days, you retire, get an emotional farewell, come next year and be in the HOF :14:

There are guys like Cena, Orton, Batista, HHH, ROCK, Kane, Undertaker, Christian, Matt Hardy, Jeff Hardy, Rey Mysterio, Truth, Kofi Kingston, William Regal and many many more who deserves to be inducted before D-Bryan the C+ playa

SMARKS already whining and crying of him to be in HOF in 2016 or 17

It's a hall of fame career, Bryan will get inducted when Vince see's it fit and it makes the most sense in terms of business. There is no pressure from anyone to fast-track his induction sounds like you are more buttthurtt then anyone knowing that Bryan is more respected then your favourite jobbers, I prefer it to if a wrestler has to wait a bit. In the end won't argue with an induction should it occur because the career is hall of fame worthy and you never know what's around the corner in life, Eddie Gurrrero never got to see himself get honoured in the HOF. Here's a letter from the founder of ROH and currently promoter of Evolve whom NXT have a working relationship with (Gabe) to Bryan:

Bryan, the news of your retirement today has reverberated through me unleashing a flood of memories and gratefulness.

Thank you, Bryan, for being in the main event of the first show I ever booked and making the name "Ring Of Honor" mean something that very night. You set the standard for the promotion and made my reputation as a booker in the early years. You did that quietly, humbly, and with class.

Thank you, Bryan, for getting on a plane in France and flying to Dayton and Chicago, doing two tough matches, and then getting right back on a plane to Europe. I know you didn't want to, but you did it unselfishly because we needed you.

Thank you, Bryan, for being there for me when we lost James Gibson after months of planning for him to be World Champion. You made the commitment to us then, because we needed someone to put the company on their back. You stayed modest, but you did it with a new attitude, stronger emotion, and unrivaled work ethic.

Thank you, Bryan for being there for Full Impact Pro when Homicide had to lose the Title due to an injury. You traveled the backroads of Florida and made it fun. You did it the right way, making the match where you finally lost the title to Roderick Strong one of the most emotional bouts I've seen.

Thank you, Bryan, for being there for me during one of the most difficult times of my life. When I felt alone and deserted, you called me and said "I wish we could start over." You spent hours talking about ideas for a new promotion. You called it "EVOLVE." No one was happier for you when you signed with WWE before you could wrestle for EVOLVE. The ideas you talked about are now seen in wrestlers like Timothy Thatcher, Drew Gulak, TJ Perkins, Tracy Williams, and Matt Riddle. You did it creatively, always with an eye on the future while being progressive.

Thank you, Bryan, for texting me "Thank you for everything" just hours before you won the WWE World Heavyweight Title at WrestleMania XXX. That text made me realize that I had to call Paul Heyman to get me into the Superdome so I could witness it in person. I have the image of the fans going crazy while you held up the title forever in my memory. I had tears in my eyes. You did it while remaining humble and appreciative of your past.

Thank you, Bryan, for making my career, teaching me, being an example to everyone and for being the man. Thank you, sir
.

Only I know how critical Aman has been when it came to the Yes movement :)) but at least he is showing some class given his respect for pro-wrestling and thoroughbred pro-wrestlers instead of being a retardeed mark and beyond the differences we have he is in touch with what the product needs to be. Punk paid his tribute to with a gif on his twitter.

Next year is too soon for HOF, I prefer it if wrestlers have to wait a bit but that trend has changed in recent times and it all depends on who Vince feels will be a draw at the ceremony and which names are available for consideration. He doesn't need to wrestle for any other promotion.

AJ Styles has filled the void left by Bryan and is the saving grace in light of Bryans emotional retirement, I hope he can have a career which is just as successful but I doubt it.

Man got emotional watching that Bryan segment. My most favourite wrestler of this era hands down. And what a stand up guy outside of the ring too. He was the reason I came back and watched wrestling again after many years. No one else left to root for now.

Totally agree with you, wrestling lost one of its nicest people (and that's saying a lot when you look at the egomaniacs in the business) never mind the stuff he did between the ropes. AJ Styles bro, root for him; he was one of the ROH originals along with Bryan all those years ago and on the indy circuit established his reputation as one of the most versatile in-ring performers of all time. In Japan his work reached another level and WWE signed him recently.

The Big Show goes from facing Randy Orton for the WWE title to losing a tag team title match.

Triple H: Oh you think it's funny huh.

Mark Henry gets Brock Lesnared

Punk buried the shield in a handicap match.

Mark Henry's career was pretty much over as a top level talent and the same can be said for the Big Show, both were used as jobbers.

Bryan was made to join the wyatt family to cool him down then when he turned on them the reaction from the crowd was incredible and enhanced his popularity even further.

Shovel got a bearded shovel at wrestlemania 30 :))) and will also be getting Romans this year :)

Eugene botch again with his stupid wahabism views :)))

Forget everyone else, they need to induct DDP YOGA into the HALL OF FAME DAMMIT! long overdue :))) gets buried every year, man the lives that has saved bah gawd

That was the comment someone made on that video you fool

And Hunter is the only reason Bryan got that moment at mania. Bryan himself confessed that. He said he was saying he's not ready but hunter told him he was

You agreed with the views of that comment you posted but now backtrack after I buried you :yk

Nah, the only reason Bryan went over was because of the WWE fans and their reaction at the Royal Rumble. Bryan, HHH and the entire pro-wrestling community and experts know this except your retardeed brain :))) Show us where Bryan "confessed that" he actually pointed out himself and confirmed on his DVD documentary that had it not been for the fans in the royal rumble 2014 he was booked to face sheamus at wrestlemania 30.

However, it was good that HHH let Bryan bury him. It gave us the ultimate pay off to the storyline. But Dave did a bigger thing by tapping out for Bryan.

True, he's giving us a bad rep and that little piece of crap has no respect for wrestling; when you listen to Bryans retirement speech you just want to grab a shovel and shove it up Punks behind and slap him up. Phil Brooks is a disgrace, the ungrateful piece of rubbish. Bryan was all about thanking his fans and gratitude yet Punk is giving me and dashing jobber attitude even when we helped him purchase his luxury home :))) what a quitter

and that coward always turning down questions regarding WWE. Even Rock and Brock admits and are grateful for WWE, because WWE made them what they are and they went to find big success in different fields.
Punk is ungrateful ****, won't even appreciate the opportunities he was given, thinks it was all him. He forgets it was Vince final call in every decision and push he got in his career. I'm glad Hunter buried him

I want Hunter to bury Punk and AJ Lee in a handicap match!!! Punk is a no good SOB, he didn't deserve to lace up the boots bubba

Have been watching wrestling regularly since the age of 5. Through out the years my tastes changed, and many performers had an influence on my fandom. Dusty Rhodes, Ric Flair, Roddy Piper, Randy Savage, Shawn Michaels; the list could go on and on really depending on the promotion and the year. I started out as a diehard NWA fan, and from there I watched WWF, Smoky Mountain, GWF, AWA, WCCW, WCW, ECW, CMLL, NJPW, ROH and the list goes on and on. Once I became a diehard fan, I found out that no matter how much I loved the NWA, it wasn’t enough. I consistently added to what I watched, I traded tapes in the 90s (there was no “WWE Network” or “Youtube” back then kids) because I wanted to watch more, I wanted to learn more and I loved it.

While I had watched companies close throughout the years, something happened in 2001 that I never thought would actually happen. WCW and ECW both closed down, and the WWF was the only game in town. For myself, this became a dark time to be a wrestling fan. I wasn’t a big fan of what the WWE product had to offer; I needed more as a fan. It was then that I made the decision that I would never be a slave to one kind of wrestling, hell I wouldn’t only watch comedies as a rule when going to the movies, so I expanded and never stopped. I watch so much wrestling, I add some promotions and take others away, but I always find a lot to love. There were two things that saved my fandom back then; discovering and watching AJ Styles grow as a performer as TNA launched, and discovering ROH as the American Dragon Bryan Danielson.

I will never claim to be a hardcore ROH fan, I have followed the company on and off over the years, but can’t claim to be someone that since day one collected DVDs and followed everything they did from show to show. I reported on ROH over the years; I have certainly watched a lot and always followed the recommendations to see matches made by people like Ari Berenstein who were plugged into the product in a major way. But while I never followed ROH as a promotion from show to show early on, I did follow Bryan Danielson. The Era of Honor begins in 2002 was my first real exposure to Danielson, and after a 20-minute war with Low Ki and Christopher Daniels, I was a fan. I can’t necessarily explain it, it’s similar to TNA and AJ Styles for me, it was never about the promotion, but once I saw Danielson, he was the guy I needed to see.

Throughout his years in Ring of Honor I got to see Danielson against the best that ROH had to offer, and more than that, I got to see him against talents from Japan that made we want to seek out those guys. Basically when you worked Danielson, if you had a good match I gave you a chance, and it was through him that I branched out even more and started to discover even more talent. Danielson was essentially my gateway drug to discovering new talent and promotions on the independent scene. It is one of many things I thank him for.

From 2002 to 2009 Bryan Danielson put together a portfolio of amazing matches that you can stack up against any in ring great. He worked so many different guys, with some many different styles and through the years he continued to grow and evolve as a performer. For as good as WWE fans think Daniel Bryan is, minds would be blown if those fans that never saw his pre-WWE work would take the time to really seek out what made him such a cult ICON during those years.

Bryan Danielson was an amazing in ring performer, and I always had hoped that he would get the chance, a real chance, with WWE. But I thought that would never come, he was too small for them, he wasn’t a “great promo,” he just didn’t feel like a fit. But then he got the chance…

WWE signed Danielson, and after a brief period off after the whole Nexus choking incident, he returned and was part a regular of the show. I was a big fan of the guy, and while he won the US Title and was part of the programming, I never expected much else. He had his great matches, he cemented his legacy to me, and now I was happy that the guy had the chance to make some great money while his body could still hold up. Thankfully he was going to do more than just hang in the midcard and put on good matches.

He got a run with the world title, he had a damn-entertaining run with Kane as a tag team, and Daniel Bryan and Friends vs. The Shield made for some amazing WWE TV matches. Danielson grew in importance within WWE, and while I was still not thinking he’d be “the guy,” I was more than happy to watch his rise and hope for the best. But again, the journey wasn’t over and there were bigger accomplishments to come.

The fact that he got to main event a Summerslam with John Cena was an accomplishment that I felt would be the culmination of his WWE career, and then he beat Cena clean as a sheet. Danielson did something that is a rarity in WWE, and the popularity he had and the fact that the “WWE Universe” did not want to be force fed Randy Orton, Triple H, the Authority or a returning Dave Batista led to one of the coolest stories for this wrestling fan. The man I saw so many times have these great and even classic matches in front of a few hundred people at best became the focus of a WrestleMania. Not only was he the focus and not only did he put on two excellent matches, he beat Triple H, Randy Orton and Dave Batista on that show to walked out as the champion. It was a great moment as a fan of Danielson’s to see the victory, to see the reaction and be part of the rise of someone I had watched for so long. It was something I never thought would happen. But for Danielson, it was a culmination of a journey, one where he wanted to prove that he was not only the best, but that in the land of the giants and a world full of no, he said yes and proved that he could do it.

Unfortunately the journey did not continue, the king did not reign long and there was only uncertainty for Danielson and his fans. After fifteen years of blood, sweat, tears, injuries and a collection of some of the best matches I ever got to see, Danielson’s body finally started to give in. Shortly after his victory he announced he would have to undergo neck surgery as he was losing strength in his arm. I can only imagine the pain and frustration; he finally conquered Everest and was basically having it taken away from him. He had his future to worry about, he had a new wife, and fans had no idea if he would return. While he did return, it was short-lived as a concussion took him out of action.

This led to so many questions being asked; is WWE just protecting themselves? Are they saving him for later because they don’t want to derail anything? Is he really that bad off? Will he ever return? And we have seemingly found our answers today. WWE was protecting themselves (and rightfully so), Danielson did want to return, but after more testing has announced his retirement.

So what do I think? I think that this is a sobering reminder that our guys, our favorites, are just human. For all of the times we are entertained by these people, they constantly punch their bump card and one day that runs of for everyone. If he made the decision after getting all of the answers he needed to do so, then I am happy for him. I have had the pleasure of watching him perform for well over a decade, and I never felt ripped off watching Bryan Danielson perform. He had goals, he accomplished those goals, and if this is it, he should only be proud of what he accomplished and gave to the wrestling business.

Bryan Danielson made wrestling a great in many ways. he made me care because he cared; he made me believe that good things can happen to good people. He added to my fandom, he helped me discover so many great wrestlers over the years, he delivered great matches and moments and as a fan I can’t thank him enough. If he never wrestles again, if he walks away and helps with NXT or does the occasional cameo or hell if he stays in his garden growing kale and making watermelon jellies, I just hope he’s happy. Because at the end of the day, there is more to life than just wrestling, and hopefully he can accept that as he moves on.

Thanks for everything Bryan; Goodbye, Farewell and Amen for everything you gave me as a fan…

Had read about that, feel sorry for Titus he does quite a bit for the WWE's image but they gave him the punishment of someone who would have been banned for taking steroids just because he gave Vinny a little shove :))) wow, i have no words bro. Wrestlers who break wellness policy laws get suspended for around 60 days lmao. Also Adil, Titus will also get hurt quite a bit in the pocket because he will miss wrestlemania; a day when all involved get their biggest payday of the year

Some people are suggesting that he got the excessive punishment because he's black. I know vinnys attitude to black wrestlers generally has been pathetic but do u think that's a legit reason for why he would get punished so harshly.
