"Today, I am stepping down as captain of Pakistan in all formats": Babar Azam

This is a sad day for Pakistan cricket.

For Babar the batter this is the right decision. He will benefit from this as a batsman.

But Pakistan cricket will now have to find its Saurav Ganguly if they have to secure their future and Babar’s legacy.
 
I'm not sure resigning as test captain is a good decision though. Team seemed to be improving under him with the new bazball approach. Their is also no other option? Rizwan is not in the starting xi for tests.

I really hope Shan Masood will not become the next test captain 🤦🤦

What about the odi I think that will go to Rizwan. I don't mind Shaheen. And shan deserve it to be honest

The aim should be to be compete with all the teams right? not only India.

What has Shan Masood done to be the captain. He speaks good english and has some high level backing. That's all

Not a fan of having Shan as a batsman but he should be a good captain. Seems much more in tune with modern requirements than Babar.

Regardless, they will get smashed in Australia.

Should have seen through the Aus tour, very unfair to make a new captain sacrificial lamb for the Aussies. That one tour is enough to mentally destroy any new captain. Serious question, who would even want that series in his first outing as captain?
 
Alhamdulilah, good decision by Babar. He was poor captain, the new appointment is going to be equally bad but that's the different topic altogether.

Now focus on something you aimed for all these years. Best of luck 🤞
 
Not happy that the PCB gave him the option to resign. The PCB should have pre empted this and issued a press release that they were dismissing him as captain from all formats.

Why do you think new captain will fail in Australia? Didn't people say we have lot better captains and players available in domestic?
 
Right decision. He is a very poor captain.

He should focus on getting better against good spin and add some hitting skills. Focus on scoring big away tons to win or at least draw some games.

#BabarSher has stepped down as captain. He averages 61/91 as captain and 54/87 without captaincy. The not-match-winner averages 78/90 in matches Pakistan won during his batting career and 35/85 when Pakistan lost.

They know how to handle this on a corporate level
 
Let the circus begin.... When half of the team desires to become a captain, there will always be groupism.
Hope rizwan is made captain of all three format.
 
I hope it's not a token resignation meant to rouse emotions of his die hard fans but a genuine admission of his failure and an attempt to focus on his batting which has gone to dogs lately.

Even peak Imran Khan or Kardar can't help this Pak side avoid a massacre in Australia, problem is purely down to ability of your test squad.

But now a new captain will start with 0-3, all 3 will be by massive margins, and Aussie crowd is brutal, so is their media. Why should a new captain be subjected to all that? This team is Babar's legacy, his chosen ones, he alone should lead the team.
 
Good decision shouldn’t have been made captain . He should have stayed as Sarfraz deputy in LOI . Today he would have been in better position to lead but PCB messed up big time
 
Hopefully Shan will be able to construct a test team of his liking. We need to give ample opportunities to the guys who have been grinding in first class rather than giving any tom, dick or harry a test cap due to one good PSL.
 
Bet the PCB will adopt their usual safety first approach and make Rizwan captain. Just wait and watch.

He will very useful on those bouncy Australia pitches.

Ironically by the time that tour ends. Shan Masood will probably be the only top order batter having made the most runs for Pakistan. (Just like 2022 WT20) :ROFLMAO:

The guy has a Test Average of 28. Associate nations have better Batsman then him. Plus his Dad has big influence within PCB so a complete nepotistic selection, and a person who has zero performance.

It will be the greatest Shame in Pakistan Cricket and domestic performers of Pakistan if Shan is made captain of the Test Team,which the highest honour of the land in Cricket.
