TV Shows I Recommend

Sorry folks and I'm likely to get flamed. But mad men was seriously dull. Good acting, brilliant period details. But a show so inert and devoid of "excitement" that I could not go beyond 4 episodes. Maybe period dramas and I aren't meant to be.

Btw I do like dramas like Dexter, Game of Thrones, walking dead but mad men was boring as hell.

Walking Dead? I played the game which made me want to try the show. Opened a stream in the middle of the night, saw the little girl scene, never went back to it.

:)) it's gruesome and pessimistic. But if you like zombies, it's pretty awesome. Drama is quality as well.

You have to watch Walking Dead one of the best ever.

Never got in to zombies, they look boring to me, they can't even talk fgs

If ya don't like zombies then you ain't cool. That's the cold hard truth.

I'm with you on that. It's been done to death. Sincere apologies for the bad pun

Apart from the ones repeatedly mentioned here I gave a few K-dramas a try due to positive comments by posters here and elsewhere.

The three i tried and in order of preference were:

Bridal mask
Iris
City hunter

just been reading through this thread, seen a few tv shows over the past few months

as DV mentions utopia was pretty cool, found some of the characters a bit annoying but overall it was worth it

house of cards was good too, although i think it was way too over dramatic at times i like how it was paced and am keenly awaiting the second series

and finally i, claudius, bbc re showing an old roman era drama based on the family of julius agustus ceaser, really well made and a must for any history and drama buffs.

any news on when breaking bad returns?

I must say Spartacus has been epic at times but definitely not for family viewing, the nudity and sex scenes were uncalled for. Two more episodes before its conclusion and with Spartacus being an historical figure its really intriguingly poised at the moment.

I've seen Rome. Bitterly disappointed they had to pull the show after two seasons as season 3 was so amazingly poised.

Might check this out.

So I've been watching Breaking bad which is fantastic...I highly recommend it but most of you guys have seen it already.

Anyways I found these on youtube. I've seen a few episodes before and may have mentioned. The acting is a bit dated as is some of the filming techniques but its a decent show. Its called murder in mind and is quite a unique show. It films a murder from the perspective of the murderer.

I recommend the episode with ROb Brydon. It makes for good viewing. None of the episodes are related to each other so you can dip in to any episode. Here is a link to the Rob Brydon one. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bSifWEJT5Sw&list=PLA0AE7EDC4020A61F

Murder in Mind is decent. Another of the primetime BBC dramas that was good recently was Accused.

In transatlantic news, Kiefer Sutherland is in talks for Season 9 of 24.

I will check it out James. Did you by any chance watch Broadchurch? It was meant to be excellent and the papers certainly thought it was good judging by the coverage they gave to its finale. It got a 7.7 on IMDB...going to stick it on my torrent list.

I have to catch up with that one. Thankfully one of the things this country is still very good at is making quality entertainment/educational product available for next to nothing; iPlayer and 4OD are fantastic resources. On a day off if I have no plans, I just browse through them and find about 4 things worth watching immediately (often documentaries).

Recently started watching Banshee...think it might be another gem in the making...early days but so far so good...

vampires and all..it isnt like twilight is it?

 :))

Lol please don't abuse the show that way. It's a much edgier, darker and funnier show. The vampires are actually nasty and there is a lot of gore and sex. There is a particular vampire Russell Edgington who is the very definition of awesome. Charming, polite yet completely crazy and dangeous.

There are way too many characters sometimes but the show has a certain charm. It's an acquired taste though.

*rolls eyes* if u say so..will report back when I start watching it.

Please recommend a good show to watch. Doesn't matter if it has ended.

True Blood was pretty stupid, way too slow and melodramatic, didn't get the hype

Need a new show... Watched first 2 eps of Justified and first ep of Boardwalk Empire. Both OK so far though nothing spectacular. Has anyone seen these shows and can comment on them?

Justified is okay during the first three to four episodes as it seems like one of those csi type shows. But then the main story starts and it gets rather entertaining.

Haven't seen Boardwalk empire.

This is slightly off topic but am I the only one who absolutely hated Lost? So slow and dead! No wonder it lasted like a kabillion seasons.

The Walking Dead, Vampire Diaries, Hannibal, Dexter are all good shows.
I loved the first two seasons of Dexter..then it started to get crappy and then I eventually stopped watching.

I need some new good shows to watch :/

Highly recommend The Wire to those of you who haven't seen it. Bit of an oldie but brilliant stuff.

The 'Neighbours' episode with Kevin Whateley is tongue-in-cheek and hilarious, just absolutely brilliant.

The unique selling point is indeed the murderer's perspective. I like how the show makes you think: what would I do?

Tv shows I don't recommend are Citizen Khan.

It's Always Sunny In Philadelphia.
I'm a huge Seinfeld fan, I could safely call it the best show I have ever seen. It was consistently hilarious throughout the whole 9 seasons and I have seen every episode at least 5 times each. 'It's Always Sunny In Philadelphia' is the only show that seems to come close to Seinfeld in my opinion. My favourite sitcom & show at the moment.

Lost, to me, is like The Blair Witch Project, a movie that was advertised as real footage and that you kept guessing if it was true on premier. The same way, Lost put up an illusion of intelligently written and planned story, which kept people hooked and guessing for years. If they knew they were being made fools of, I doubt it would have still gotten the same following and people would have liked the soapy characters, the unecessary cliffhangers and the twists and reveals. It just gave the impression that it was on a rail and that is fondly remembered by its fans, not the deception.

Charlie Day is a genius.

New Arrested Development continues where it left off: GOAT.

Big fan of Frasier, very good that.

Lost really divides people. I think it is one of the best shows of all time. But some say it's horrible. No middle ground. It didn't cheat atleast unlike a certain Prison Break (also a show I liked very much.)

Arrested Development. Fantastic show. So funny. Props to Netflix for restarting it.

Lost's first 5-6 seasons were great but last 2-3 seasons were so horrible that there are no words to describe that mess. The ending basically ruined the show for many viewers.

There were 6 seasons. Must be confusing it with another show #XFiles

I would recommend Teachers (the UK version), very funny show - especially the first few series.

The Fall. BBC Two's current crime drama. Gillian Anderson is despatched from London to Belfast to investigate a string of 'perfect' pornographic murders where the police are without a lead. Very interesting because the audience follows the killer as much as the victims and Gillian; you know who he is, and the directing is such that it shows you his normal, sympathetic, rationalised day job everyman side as well as his sociopathic, perverse and obsessive moonlight side.

Scully investigating murders again? Damn I am interested. That woman gets more beautiful with each passing day :asadrauf

She's aged beautifully. And one of our own as well. Can affect a North American accent, but she belongs to this island :bumble

Aw!!! You lot poaching artists too now :p

Besides, Gillian seems like a fun person too. Not one of those self-important artists with a massive stick up their bottom.

i think Gillian has acted out beautifully the role of DCI Gibson. The grief counsellor has been amazing as well

anyone enjoyed Endeavour? Police drama based a young inspector Morse on ITV last month and the recent Foyle's War?

I'm quite enjoying The Fall, and I'm not always a fan of British drama serials, but this has been pretty gripping stuff. Top notch casting and acting as well.

I just got done watching the first two seasons of The Killing and it was superb. It gets slow in between and deals with only one murder throughout but it has a lot of good twists and keeps you guessing.
The ending was quite amazing.

I recommend it.
The third season deals with a different case.

Obviously it isn't aired anymore, but absolutely loved The Bill. Great programme that ITV once used to host before garbage shows such as Britain's Got Talent began to become more prominent.

Freaks and geeks - the best show i've ever watched. Love how understated yet funny the show is. 9.5/10

Community - another really funny show with pretty clever humor 9/10

Scrubs - the show grows on you 8.5/10

Sons of Anarchy
Da Vinci's Demons
Arrow
Person of Interest
The Americans
Graceland
Ray Donovan
Homeland
White Collar
The Following
Bates Motel

Two more excellent shows I've seen recently are Top Boy and Blackout.

I was at a conference recently where the talk was about how electronic warfare could be more dangerous than a nuclear bomb, in that you could totally decimate a countrys infrastructure by knocking out key installations.

Blackout deals with the the result of an attack on the UK that leads it to suffer without power for a week. Its a mini tv movie and lasts for 1 hour 10 mins. Its not without its flaws but I found it enjoyable.

Secondly the end of what has been billed as the UKs version of the wire ended recently. Top Boy is set in London, stars Kano and Asher D and takes a look at an inner city London estate. The comparisons with the wire are far fetched but the show is very good. Very violent at times.

Season 1 is 4 episodes as is Season 2.

The ending of Top Boy season 2 was nuts I think I actually screamed when the kid did .

It was indeed. Was quite a good show overall but yeah the ending showing the kids love for that character ( no names incase of spoilers) was deep.

Just finished Sherlock Season 2, absolutely fantastic - 10/10

Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman both are terrific. Both were also terrific in Hobbit, Desolation of Smaug.

Californication is superb, on the 4th season so far i am so emotionally attached to the character hank. The final episode of season 3 made me cry. Drama at is best. David Duchovny absolutely nails this role, epic performance from him deserves all the bloody golden globes and academy awards if they have a tv series category

There's a new series on HBO called 'True Detective', starring Matthew McConaughey and Woody Harrelson.
The pilot aired a couple of days ago. I thought it was pretty good. (And it should be considering the cast involved)

Anyone watching Brooklyn Nine-Nine? A very funny new show with Andy Samberg.
