Last day of the series - wonder how many thought it would go to the wire like this?

Honestly after 36 all out ,i lost all intrest knowing we will get hammered like 4-0 but what a turnaround after that ,just incredible

Another interesting trivia related to Washington Sundar. Washington is deaf in one ear by birth. Its truly inspiring that he has overcome his hearing impairment and gone on to play the highest level of cricket for his country.

What’s the weather like

No rain expected for the whole day. the weather has improved since yesterday which means India needs to survive 98 overs to draw the match or win it. But Indian win looks more unlikely considering how the pitch is behaving.

Come on team India show the grit and determination for one more day and we can retain the Border-gavaskar trophy.

Didnt know, hope that sharpened his other senses

His bowling action looks borderline iffy.

India I think will win but the following needs to happen

a 100-120 qucikfire (ish) Rohit/Gill partnership to counter the Pujara/Rahane incoming tuk tuk
Pujara/Rahane to score the most amount of runs they can using the least amount of possible balls, ideally they both score 30s at a "quick" 40 SR.
Pant plays his usual game, scores a 60 odd at 60-70 SR with Sundar and Thakur to see them home.

However if Pant fails then they should just close shop like the last time and go for the draw.

This isnt a day 3 Sydney pitch on the last day.

India will lose just after tea...if they have some luck.

Pak almost chased 490 at this venue a few years ago against the same attack (apart from Cummins), so you never know.

There is mayank also in the Indian line-up. Until now the most unexpected people have risen to the occasion. mayank is the only one in the line-up who hasn't yet done that. Maybe today is his day. He too scores a fast clip. The opening partnership is the key.

Hope its a draw or indian win. Please India fight for one last day.

Going to be tough for India. That one ball from Siraj decked back off the crack sharply to Cummins clearly showed it is going to be tough batting here.

It will be a tough target to chase. We need a big one from Rohit.

Starc and Cummins are fully fit as well, their last evening's niggles have been cleared.

Sharmaji must go big today :inti

I dont think India can last the day by play defensive cricket, sooner or later they may get an unplayable delivery. The best approach maybe to go all out aggressive. India has got less to loose here even if they loose this match.

I agree partly. But I think guys like Pujara and Rahane should bat the way they do. Even Sundar can be used as defensive batsman post tea session if we are left with just to save the test.

Rohit, Pant, Gill and Mayank should bat positively because then only they will survive.

Why are the Indian openers not wearing arm guards/elbow pads? With the variable bounce, there is a risk of injury.

98 overs in a day sounds like such a long day.

The first hour is absolutely critical in terms of not losing any wickets at all.

India can chase this down.

Name me a better top 6 in world cricket than Sharma, Gill, Pujara, Rahane, Vihari and Pant.

Big 100 coming from Rohit Sharma.

Vihari is not there.

Indian batsmen have not really gone big. It's unlikely that they will save this test let alone win if the rain stays away. It's not Sydney's pitch. It has cracks and it will get worse. Even with 100/1, the score can quickly change to 150/4.

Where does it say that? All the websites are saying there won't be much rain, hardly an hour of showers at most.

Commentators were saying heavy thunderstorm is expected in the third session today. Not sure about the actual forecasts.

Between 1 pm to 3 Pm rain predicted. So India has to survive till lunch with absolute minimum loss.

Interesting ploy from the Aussies.
Almost 100% of the balls are in line of the stumps.
They are making the Indian batsmen play every single ball.

This is a do or die battle by the Aussies.

Great to see this awesome contest.

One of the balls will misbehave and then batsmen will be tentative.

Here you go. Saving the test will be very hard.

Harder and harder to bat on. You need a bit of luck to survive here. Odd ball decks back sharply of the length.

Rohit is not a test player unless the venue is India. But if you are playing in India you want some new players to develop. I don't recall Rohit ever playing well outside India.

His trigger movements are not suitable for Tests.

Aus is doing well by making batsmen play. If they keep bowling like this, India will fold before Tea.

The ball is doing a lot ,for us to have any chance

I don't know why Indians keep trying Rohit to be honest in the test format. He does not have a game for this format. ODI pitches are mostly flat and good to bat. He can settle down and then score big, but in the test, balls will be doing more from the get-go. No time to just settle.

I think Rohit is better off playing Test in ODI style.

If he plays his natural aggressive style in tests, he has better chances to dominate the bowlers and score more runs, rather than trying to play in Mr. Tuk Tuk style.

Probably, but it won't work most of the time. Even in ODI, I have seen him struggling when the ball moves.

Problem with Rohit Sharma in test cricket is he doesn't play his natural game, he should go for broke at the onset like Sehwag

Sehwag had a different game. He could go from the get-go. Rohit does not do that even in ODI.

That is because of the way he plays one-dayers. His shorts are classical. The thing that we forget is bowlers have a lot of restrictions there also you don't see 3 slips in the one-dayers for 10 overs. KL Rahul is better than him. Not perfect. But better.

Rohit is not a Test opener, India need Dhawan or try someone else.

All on Pujara and Rahane how they bat today.

India has far too many openers. Agarwal, shaw, KL Rahul, Rohit, Gill. In my view Gill is more a no.4 batsman rather than an opener. He is doing a good job. But he will do better slightly lower down.

He leaves a gap so big that truck can drive through it. His shots look good in the eye, but he does not have the skills to bat in certain conditions. I still recall him fishing, fishing, and fishing outside off stump when Steyn was bowling. yes, it was a hard ODI pitch and not easy to bat, but clearly he did not have skill to even try to play it well. You can't have an opener like this in test format.

10 overs done for the day. India needs plan to bat out 10 overs at a time. If some rain visits teh gabba in the afternoon it will aid too. *fingers crossed*

Cummins is bowling such good line bringing his A game in the decisive day also able to collect through his bowling

Still remember his dismissal against Henry in WC semifinal, he looked clueless against swing bowling conditions, its easy to hit 200 runs in India, but in Australia or NZL you need excellent technique.

If rain takes away the possibility of 2nd new ball then it will help India as long as they survive.

It will be hard on this pitch to survive 88 more overs unless someone like Pujara bats very long. He can really frustrate and block one end. Interesting setup, hope the rain stays away.

He could actually bat well in ODI in Aus. But those ODI pitches were roads.

Deliberate effort by all bowlers bowling full length. Its the exact same lengths Aussies bowled in Adelaide when India folded out for 36. Terrific bowling.

It's a very good way to bowl when the pitch starts misbehaving.
