Unbeaten 89 by Pant helps India to a 3-wicket win over Australia in 4th Test, India win series 2-1

There is only one way India can win this match and that is if Pant bats till the end which although not impossible is certainly next to it. India can carry on with this approach until he is there and once he gets out can shut stop with the exception being the required runs is less than 50.

They should keep 60 runs for the last 10 (assuming there is no collapse). That means 27 overs 83 runs. Easier to write this here But it is 10 times harder executing it.

145 to win from 222 balls with 7 wickets in hand, effectively.

This test remind me of Adelaide 2014 where we were similar position going in to last session aftrr that we know what happened

Sydney was a draw though, in similar circumstances.

Captain Rahane was trying to get some limelight by hitting an aggressive 80 odd and winning his team a series and earning man of series award. Ended up opening a door for Australia.

Seriously good cricket by India!

They don’t want a draw anymore, even though that will be a victory in itself. But they are not going on the back-foot and have fully locked horns!

Test cricket at its best!

Ind needs another 40-50 runs without losing wickets then Aus will get start worrying.

Plenty of cricket left here. India has one issue. Their last 3 can't last even 5 overs.

Wow. So now it all comes down to the last session of the last day of the last Test. What a series.

He did not have to be that aggressive. India needed below 4 runs per over. He was batting like India needed 6-7 runs per over.

You also think India have chance of winning , I'm really surprised knowing the conditions

Don't remember the last time a test series was alive going into the final session of an Australian season.

Exactly. This is why I think Rahane doesn't do well in LOIs. He just doesn't have a sense of run-rate. Either goes ultra-defensive or ultra-aggressive.

He did not have to be that aggressive. India needed below 4 runs per over. He was batting like India needed 6-7 runs per over.

It will take two big overs for Australia to press the panic button. They have played like the team which is scared to lose throughout this series after the first test

Skipper Rahane wanted some limelight lol :yk.

A test series win after being behind 1-0 with an attacking 75 here would have given him a man of the series award.

Ind is playing for it. Chances are slim.

Aus win or draw is a higher chance here. If Rahane would have batted sensibly then Aus win would have been a lot less chance.

Most of the time, the series is done by the last test. Great job by both teams for putting this series during covid.

If they can add 60 runs without losing any Wicket in next 15-17 over then India can try for win otherwise just blocked & blocked .

Indias top run scorer and wicket taker are both replacement players. The 1st choice 11 couldnt have done any better,
Brilliant final session in store

From what I've seen Indian fans (and others) already consider this among one of the best series ever for the fight they've shown, a win would just be sonay pai sohaga, so why not go for it.

Kohli is laughing in his couch surely.

37 overs left max. 30 to 32 overs possible. 16 overs will be bowled by Lyon assuming they don't take new ball

Great positive intent being shown by India.

Traditionally India has never been great at parking the bus. When we get negative like that we fall like a pack of cards. It's when we play positive cricket and target the bad balls, that's our best chance of playing maximum overs.

Had Gill been still there, I'd still have some hopes but not now.

Kohli is laughing in his couch surely.

I hope Kohli is introspecting while he does that. If he feels that he is indispensable to our team along with his mate Shastri, he better think again.

yes. INdia would have folded under Kohli as the approach is different under him.

I read that as Shastri, he better drink again.

Don't think it has happened over the last three decades in all the time I have been following Australian cricket.

The closest parallel I can find is the 2003-04 series against India. Australia needed about 240 going into the last session of the SCG test back then, so it really wasn't that tight.

Kohli. Rahane averages 36 with the batin his last 40 tests and has largely failed against NZ, Australia, England etc. Even that average of 36 is inflated by bullying SL, WI and a weak Saffer attack at home last time. We have him as captain and you think Kohli would be held accountable for anything?

India are definitely going to treat this like an ODI. Take it deep and then go hard with 10-15 overs left.

Lol when Pakistani fans are rooting for an Indian team to win. You have to admit this is something special from India. One of their best ever away series performances regardless of the result. I hope for an India win which would be pretty awesome

Commentators are still going on about Smith and Warner's absence during our last test series win in Australia.

Rahane's batting barring that century has been mediocre, but his captaincy, and they way he's been able to instill resiliency into this team all the while being calm on-field has been great to watch.

Don't think Rahane can take full credit for that. I think work was started by Kohli after retirement of Dhoni. Rahane is just reaping the rewards.

Looks like even Australia has conceded a draw and are hoping for harakiri from us. Only a slip for Lyon on a pitch which has its cracks widening after every over.

I think we have opted to go for a draw based on the post tea approach which is sensible.

That has been Rahane’s bane.. he has always been a talented bat, but boy, has he been inconsistent. Plays 1 good innings, then drops off the radar & can’t play spin to save his own life! Cant imagine him as a man-manager, if his own performances are so spotty!

They will go for the win if they don’t lose wickets as 5-6 an over is chaseable in the last 10-15 overs.

exactly...dude doesn't deserve a spot in the team/

But he looks like a GOAT captain :))

I think even Rahane must have been surprised looking at the performance of inexperienced guys like Gill, Siraj etc. I am so glad we found gill. Shaw was always a hack.

For that you gotta get close to that number.

They need to score 100 more to be 50-60 close to total.

At this rate, win is impossible.

I said the exact same thing after he made his 100 in this series that he won't contribute much now. He is exactly like Asad Shadiq infact there are many similarities between them. These two guys only score runs when they are about to get kicked from their teams. You can't rely on such players to win you matches. More often than not they will choke. :inti
