[VIDEOS] Pakistan to host Champions Trophy 2025

The PCB has shown him three venues, so it means we really want to host the event at only three venues

ICC Head of Security, Dave Musker, met with PCB Chief Operating Officer Salman Naseer and other officials at the NCA on Tuesday. Musker is visiting Pakistan as part of ICC Champions Trophy 2025 preparations. The eight-team event is scheduled in Pakistan in February/March 2025.

Additional IG Operations Punjab Shahzada Sultan and AIG Operations Zahid Nawaz Marwat were present on the spot.

As much as I'd love to see the Champions Trophy held in Pakistan, the unfortunate truth is that we aren't ready for it yet. The stadiums are quite outdated. Having visited in February, I can say they're adequate by Pakistani standards, but for international visitors, they feel like they're stuck in the '90s.

SA20 League Commissioner Graeme Smith revealed that the third season of South Africa’s premier T20 competition will commence on January 9, 2025.

The league, which will last a month, will wrap up on February 8, just ahead of the Champions Trophy hosted by Pakistan.

ICC identifies Feb 19-March 9 window for CT 2025

The window for next year's Champions Trophy has been identified, and Cricbuzz can reveal that it will take place between February 19 and March 9. Multiple sources from multiple boards and the International Cricket Council (ICC) connected to the 50-over championship have confirmed this 20-day period allocated for the eight-team tournament, which will be held for the first time since 2017. In the last edition, Pakistan won the trophy, beating India in the final at The Oval.

While the exact match days for the Champions Trophy 2025 have not yet been finalized, the schedule will be fitted within this 20-day period. Initially, it was thought that the tournament would start on a Friday and conclude on a Sunday. According to the disclosed window, however, February 19 is a Wednesday and March 9 is a Sunday. The 2017 edition had a 19-day window, with the tournament starting on a Thursday (June 1) and concluding on a Sunday (June 18).

The tentative dates of the Champions Trophy have apparently been shared with the member boards so that they can adjust their league schedules accordingly. The IL T20 had announced that its third edition will run from January 11 to February 9, almost the same window in which the SA20 will hold its third season. According to a recent SA20 release, the season will kick off on January 9 and will run till February 8.

It is still unclear whether all the Champions Trophy matches will be played in Pakistan. With the BJP government returning to power in India, the current policy towards Pakistan is expected to continue, although no official statement has been made yet. If the same policy continues, the hybrid model used for last year's Asia Cup could apply, meaning part of the competition could be held in the UAE.

However, sources say it is too early to determine whether or not the Indian team will visit Pakistan. "We will have some idea in the next two months," said an informed source. Clarity is expected by the ICC annual conference in Colombo in July. By then, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is expected to have a better understanding of the government's policy towards the tournament.

Cricbuzz had earlier reported that the PCB earmarked Lahore as the sole venue for the India games so that the Indian team will not have to travel to many places and the fans can easily cross over to Lahore through the Wagah border.

Pakistan Cricket Board suggests Lahore as India's home base in next year's Champions Trophy

The Pakistan Cricket Board has suggested Lahore as India's home base during next year's ICC Champions Trophy, in its bid to ensure the best security arrangements for the neighbours. A reliable source in the PCB said that this suggestion has been made in the draft schedule of the event sent to the ICC in late April. "Yes Lahore has been suggested as the home base for the Indian team to reduce their travelling and to provide them with the best security arrangements," the source said.

India last year refused to play the Asia Cup in Pakistan because of security concerns, following which their matches were moved to Sri Lanka. Pakistan is due to host the major ICC 50-over event tentatively between February 19 to March 9 next year. The ICC executive board is yet to approve the draft schedule but the PCB has also kept Karachi and Rawalpindi as other venues for Champions Trophy matches.

This is the first time since 1996 that Pakistan will be hosting any major ICC event although it did host the entire Asia Cup in 2008 and also some games of the same event last year. The BCCI is yet to formally confirm whether it would be sending the national team to Pakistan for the ICC event. PCB chairman Mohsin Naqvi has indicated that a major overhaul is on the cards in the Pakistan team following their six-run loss to India in the T20 World Cup in New York on Sunday.

He also said that all three stadiums in Lahore, Karachi and Rawalpindi will be upgraded ahead of the Champions Trophy. The PCB has also said that it would be hosting the Pakistan Super League sometime in April next year because of the Champions Trophy and a tri-series it plans to host before the ICC event with South Africa and New Zealand being the other participating sides.

Stupid venue

Pak v India should be in Karachi. It’s the most pro Pakistan city. You are going to repay the Indians with the wholesome Lahore crowd after they made a complete mockery of you in Ahmedabad?

PSL games were played infront of empty stand at Karachi . Lahore was Full House so this is right decision

It’s Pakistan v India, how could you assume this game won’t get sold out at Karachi? They are the most realistic crowed in Pakistan. Pakistan’s most famous home victory against India has come at Karachi. It was Karachi crowd that kept Pakistan in the chase throughout that epic pursuit of 350 in the first ODI in 2004. They are the most pro Pakistan crowd when it comes to India/Pakistan clashes

India is going to play every match at one venue so if Pakistan vs India game will be full bouse at Karachi then what about others game ? Lahore is best possible venue to host the indian matches as indian fans can go there bcz of nearest possible city.

I think the plan should be to not have India fans

It should work both ways

Yeah there is a visa process which Indian fans have to follow just like Pakistan fans have to follow for India. There should be no compromise or leniency in the process. Pakistan has every right to take its security seriously just like India do.

Hold on ! This attitude can lead to change the venue as BCCI have every right to not send the indian team for Pakistan due to security issues.

I think I'll be in Lahore for CT during this time next year. So I don't really mind it. But I get your viewpoint, however karachi ain't pulling an Ahmedabad mate. Not gonna happen.

What happened their was due to marketing propaganda of King Bobby vs Kohli, in karachi they'll cheer for Pakistan but don't expect any player to get booed.

Oh the naadaan parindey here arguing whether India should be playing in Lahore or Karachi lmao. :ROFLMAO:

I can already hear the Emirati Indians singing "Chak de" after India wins it at the Dubai International stadium.

Yeah they can sing that whilst India probably plays Oman or Afghanistan to fill in during the time they opt out of the CT being held in Pakistan

Pakistan fans are need to accept that there is no ICC trophy without india .this is the truth which Pakistan fans can't digest .

If you honestly believe ICC and the other boards will let go off the cash cow i.e India out of an ICC tournament, then I have a Taj Mahal you can buy from me for a billion $.

Heck PCB itself might protest against such a deal.

Time will tell.

Oh well, my point is about making the best of home conditions from a Pakistan pov just like India did in 2023

It’s the same with Pakistan. Indian fans should understand too.
True but BCCI can dictated the term when comes to hosting the venue due to financial power but Pakistan can't .

If BCCI don't want to send Indian team to Pakistan for CT trophy then ICC don't have any others option but agree to hybrid model .

I don’t think those BCCI senior officials visited Pakistan for absolutely no reason if their stance is the same from 10 years ago

Its not in hand for BCCI but Indian government and 9th June incident ( reasi terrorist attack) was make sure that indian government is most likely not send Indian team. But lets see still time left

What is your argument?

ICC will have to accept what BCCI proposes? Or BCCI has to follow IND Gov’s orders?

Which one is it?

This is simple . Indian government is not allowed indian team to go for Pakistan which BCCI will tell to ICC .

One hand Pakistan fans said BCCI= ICC so why you think that ICC can forced india to play in Pakistan ??

You can take example from recent Asia Cup

This is simple . Indian government is not allowed indian team to go for Pakistan which BCCI will tell to ICC .
OK…

So India can skip this tournament? Not all ICC members are playing it. Sri Lanka can step in. What’s the issue?

Alright .lets see I'm all for indian team to go there and play .
pakistan ko pakistan main harane ka maja hi kuch or ayega :kp
That’s going to happen 100% in Lahore.

Karachi main hara ke dikhao

That’s going to happen 100% in Lahore.

Karachi ,Lahore , Pindi play any where pakistan want to play , We wil beat anywhere in pakistan . :kp

This is how home crowd can be silent like Australia were silent indian crowd at Narendra Modi stadium. ( Where pakistan were surrendered)

Time will tell.

Oh well, my point is about making the best of home conditions from a Pakistan pov just like India did in 2023

Fair enough but Pakistan 2024 isn't India 2023 and India 2024 isn't Pakistan 2023.

I hope that made sense. ;)

That’s going to happen 100% in Lahore.

Karachi main hara ke dikhao
India defeated pak thrice in Karachi already.( 2004,2006, 2008 asia cup).unless it swings ,it must be a cakewalk as pak pitches are much flatter. India sho6ld be in a good position
as kl will be gone and Pant will occupy his place.Jaiswal or some good batsmen can occupy iyer place hopefully

I think there's a genuine possibility here for India to travel to Pakistan now.
- Elections are done so less need for to grandstand
- Could be an opportunity for Modi to show his "statesmanship" to an international audience at the start of a new term
- Traditionally rapprochement-friendly PML in power on the Pakistan side
- Cricket could be the right kind of low controversy gesture to test the waters from both sides
- Statements coming from both sides post election have been relatively conciliatory

Pakistan have done the right thing by proposing Lahore as a fixed venue for India. The team can base itself in Amritsar and travel over for games to alleviate any security concerns.

I hope it happens.

Chairman PCB visits Gaddafi Stadium to inspect upgradation work

Lahore, 12 June 2024: Chairman PCB Mohsin Naqvi visited the headquarters of the Pakistan Cricket, Gaddafi Stadium Lahore on Tuesday night to inspect the ongoing upgradation work. Director International Cricket Usman Wahla and GM Infrastructure were also present on this occasion.

Chairman PCB expressed his displeasure about the work not being carried out at night and instructed the relevant stakeholders to work 24/7. He said that this huge project can only be completed on time by working round the clock.

He also visited the various parts of the main building which is being dismantled and demanded for the upgradation timeline to be followed strictly. He also directed that due to the bursting of the water pipe under the main building of the stadium, quick drainage of the accumulated water should be ensured and the speed of the work should be accelerated.

Chairman PCB said that more resources need to be mobilised to complete the upgradation work of the stadium well before Champions Trophy 2025.

Pakistan Reject Hybrid Model For India Matches in Champions Trophy 2025: Report

With an International Cricket Council (ICC) trophy scheduled every year, the world title that will be competed next year is the Champions Trophy 2025. Pakistan have been given the hosting rights of the tournament by the global cricket governing body. While the Indian government's stance on whether or not the Indian cricket team should be travelling to Pakistan for the same is still not clear, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has firmly rejected the idea of a hybrid model for India matches.

The same has been confirmed in a report carried by news agency IANS. As per the PCB's proposed schedule for now, the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 will commence on February 19 and culminate with the final on March 9 with all the matches set to be played across the three venues in the country- Karachi, Rawalpindi and Lahore. India's centre was earlier said to be Lahore.

Meanwhile, the same report stated that the ICC officials had recently visited Pakistan to assess the preparations for the event next year and were satisfied with what they saw. The idea of a hybrid model was tried during the Asia Cup the last time because of India's unwillingness to travel to Pakistan but this time around the PCB remains adamant that all matches should be played on their soil.

"We have not opted for the hybrid model. However, we have given this leverage that India’s matches can be played in Lahore only. This way, the team will not be required to move around cities within Pakistan and its security can be well maintained in Lahore," said a source in the PCB as quoted in the IANS report.

"India can be based in Lahore for the entire tournament. This would minimise logistical and security complications associated with their travel between cities”, the source added.

This just tells you how things are managed in Pakistan. Normally, you would have a Project Manager overseeing a renovation like this along with a detailed schedule. The fact that Naqvi has to drop by and tell them to work at night is ridiculous. Seems like pcb just hired a bunch of labourers and told them to start breaking things. There is no plan, another major surgery will be required a month before the tournament starts 😂

Posters here will not like it but the outcome will be a hybrid model. Dont see BCCI sending the Ind team to Pak. It is what it is. End of the day . PCB with all its macho talk will agree to the hybrid model just like the asia cup. Dont shoot the messenger

Sigh
This has started again.
The Indian government will not allow the Indian team to travel to Pakistan.
The BCCI will follow this “guidance”.
The ICC will not countenance the thought of the lost revenue from India if they are not there.
So…

1) There will be a hybrid solution for India
2) The whole tournmant will be moved from Pakistan (far less likely).

Indian controls world cricket. Australia and England will not do anything that annoys India.
The three big countries have the whole thing sown up between them and will support each other.

All other countries are totally and utterly irrelevant.

The cold reality.

The problem is not as simple as made out.

Ideally, the CT 2025 should be held in Pakistan without India if they refuse.

However, broadcasters are not going to be happy without a tournament involving India.

Can Pakistan compensate the broadcasters and ICC for potential revenue losses if India opts out?

If Pakistan can, CT 25 can be held in Pakistan without India.

Otherwise, I dont see it happening in Pakistan.

This. The cold reality without taking sides. This is the reality. Can play it on a loop and this should be a sticky post.

Posters here can huff and puff and yell - say play without ind yada yada - but the above is the reality

I do not thing they will be upset or there is even a need for them to be upset. Disney has been doing these things for a long time. I am sure their contracts already have specifics in place. This will enable them to just walk away from the contract without repercussions.

This will have a domino effect on the ICC and the boards in terms of $$$$. And therein lies the conundrum for the ICC.

Just because BCCI have lots of money and can make day to night and night to day, destabilize/close ICC or put sanction cricket boards doesn't mean PCB or other board has to agree like Gospel truth. No one rule the World/people forever (i.e British, Feros...) Everything has end.

Everything has an end, but the rulers dictate the terms when they are in power that also a fact.
Till 90s England and Australia had a veto in ICC.

Pakistan should brand this tournament as Vintage CT, play it in whites because the grounds and facilities will take you back to 80s era

This Champions Trophy should happen in Pakistan. The BCCI needs to either play in Pakistan or stay away from the tournament. It is PCB's right to host the tournament and it must be honored. Let us hope the ICC stands up for justice and not succumb to the pressure from the sponsors.

If CT goes ahead without India, ICC will incur so much loss that it will be death of any future ICC tournament in Pakistan forever.

It is ICC's responsibility to market the tournament and find sponsors. If they can break even or minimize the loss, I believe they should move ahead just for being fair to the host nation. It will also set the right tone for the future tournaments. Two or three nations cannot hold an international sport hostage.

It has only made sure that Indian Govt. wont even think of allowing Indian team to visit PAK. The backlash would be so severe in India. The citizens as well as the Indian Govt. share the same sentiment on this..Who knows there might be another strike by Indian forces after the recent terror attacks that would make sure that even Pakistan citizens wont be interested regarding participation of Indian team. Indian cricket team is not going to visit Pak anytime soon.

Highly likely that India will get their way and play their CT 2025 games outside Pakistan. We should make the BCCi pay for this privilege, by allowing Pakistani players to play in the IPL. Pakistan should only accept the hybrid model, once the IPL player auction has taken place in Dec 2025, in case our foes across the border try anything sneaky 😎

Pakistan should host CT 2025 without any hybrid model. If India don't want to come, Sri Lanka can replace them maybe (since they finished 9th last World Cup).

If ICC makes it a hybrid model, Pakistan should withdraw out of self-respect.

Prediction
1) A hybrid model will happen because the BCCI will want it
2) No one will complain, apart from Pakistan naturally
3) Pakistan will receive nothing in return
4) Pakistan will not withdraw.

Posters on PP will get irate.
The world will move on.

As per Reports:

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has received encouraging signals about the Indian cricket team’s participation in the ICC Champions Trophy 2025, to be hosted in Pakistan. The PCB’s discussions with the ICC and other cricket boards suggest a positive outlook for India’s tour of Pakistan. The ICC is set to release the tournament schedule next week, which includes matches in Pakistan. The Champions Trophy 2025 will feature major cricketing nations, and it’s significant as the Indian team may play in Pakistan after a long gap.

The tournament is scheduled from February 19 to March 9, 2025, in Karachi, Lahore, and Rawalpindi. Extensive upgrades are being made to the cricket facilities in these cities. This edition marks the tournament’s return after an eight-year hiatus, with the last one held in 2017 in England, where Pakistan won against India.

Stupid venue

Pak v India should be in Karachi. It’s the most pro Pakistan city. You are going to repay the Indians with the wholesome Lahore crowd after they made a complete mockery of you in Ahmedabad?
Lahore is the only real city in Pakistan. Even Karachi's own people don't want to live in Karachi. Pakistan v India, if it happens needs to be in Lahore.

The idea of seeing Pakistan v India at Lahore is still too much for me to imagine. But it would be incredible if it happened. I don't think it will be anything close to India v Pak at Ahmedabad. But it would be great seeing Pakistan play India at home again after 16 years with a packed, partisan home crowd.

For all the bitching Pakistan people here and in Pakistan do about us, if ever the our team goes to Pakistan, then will be given better that presidential security and treatment there. The fans would love it. But India aint going. This government will never let that happen. I am sure our players want to go, but would have been threatened to shut their mouths. If Pakistan and PCB have any modicum of honor they will not suck up to Indias demands and conduct the tournament without them. But again this will also not happen because PCB have no b**ls and will simp to ICC while ICC will simp to BCCI.

I dunno what are we really achieving with all these little kids tactics. Open up doors to trade and sports. Make the world a better place. And we stand to gain revenue and more importantly peace from this.
