This is all good to hear in theory but it's just not practical in the real world.

If Jay Shah uses the threat of broadcaster withdrawal to force all the teams to fall in line, there could be passive aggressive responses by the other teams who'll resent this open show of influence. Perhaps a deal could be stuck. Unanimous approval for Shah's election to ICC Chairmanship (including Pakistan voting for him) for either India agreeing to travel for all games or maybe even just for the Semi/Final (assuming we make it that far).

That'll be a massive loss to ICC members and a Contract breach with broadcasters. The ICC has committed to an annual event for the 2024-2027 cycle and are earning $750m annually from Indian Broadcasters. Given the financial troubles Disney Star - Zee (they sort of share the rights) are having, they could easily use this opportunity to allege a major breach and pull out of the contract opening up a renegotiation.

See my post #1161 above. PCB pretty much knows it will be a hybrid model. They just don't want to disclose it this early as it will give the impression they are succumbing so early. They will want to say to the pak public that they tried their best till the last minute and agreed to a hybrid model for the sake of cricket. And fair enough i would say. Doesn't help them if tg hey announce esrly as every tom d and harry will start bashing them rightaway till the CT starts. That's why both bcci and pcb are kinda keeping a low profile on this without going completely bombastic.

Couple of reasons

1. I want it.
If we can get a deal that reduces tensions, it'll be very useful. The future need of our security deployments is on the eastern border not western. We need to strike a deal and have 5 or so years to verify it's sticking so we can start changing our orientation.
It'll finally settle Kashmir, bring peace there and allow to reduce the massive personnel deployment there.
While we'll never fully pull Pakistan out of China's orbit we don't want it to become a complete vassal state. We should be giving them some incentive to maintain a semblance of independence through trade with India.

2. I genuinely see it in the tea leaves.
So naturally I interpret developments to favour my narrative. Maybe I'm wrong in some but I'm sure I'm right in some. A full year before the Asia cup - September 22, Jay Shah was confidently issuing statements that India wouldn't travel and that the matches would be moved out. Now we're 9 months from the Champions Trophy and he's yet to say a word. He's obviously been told to keep mum as things are being discussed at a level above him. Probably Daddy and Jaishankar.

Note i've never confidently said we'll travel. I fully acknowledge the higher probability that we won't.

For cricketing reasons, I hope we play in Sri Lanka as there is no blatant toss advantage to teams fielding first but for logical reasons, Dubai makes more sense due to it's proximity to Pakistan.

This may be truth.

Maybe they want show Pakistanis that they trying best to fight BCCI.

Reality , they may already have plans for hybrid model.

Silly Pakistanis can stop turning up to ICC Ind v Pak matches as a revenge move. But they never do that, and the broadcast money keeps ringing in to the BCCI. And Pakistan inevitably get beaten to boot!

We are one step there already. The team fails to turn up usually. Just need the fans to follow suit.

As per reports:

The Indian cricket team is unlikely to participate in the 2025 Champions Trophy scheduled to be held in Pakistan in February and March. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) plans to request the International Cricket Council (ICC) to hold India’s matches in Dubai or Sri Lanka instead.

This decision will be made based on the Indian government’s authorization. The last time India toured Pakistan was in 2008, and since then, the teams have only competed in multi-team events. The upcoming Champions Trophy is the first major cricket event in Pakistan since the 1996 World Cup. The tournament will run from February 19 to March 9, with matches in Karachi, Lahore, and Rawalpindi. Pakistan, India, Bangladesh, and New Zealand are in Group A, while Group B includes England, South Africa, Australia, and Afghanistan.



It will be a hybrid model once again.

Pak Government, as it controls PCB. PCB did it on their own so either they ask PAK GOVT. or just get forget it.

PCB. ICC will forward the request to its executive board. PCB will have to put its opinion.

Every year BCCI gives PCB an opportunity to take an excuse and boycott/withdraw from these ICC / ACC events and save the team from embarassment.

PCB never learns, they end up participating in the events and end up getting embarassed and humiliated by losing to India and performing poorly.

At least if they boycott the board will appear as a strong board, otherwise the board also appears weak and team is anyhow weak.

Let's see what they do this time.
