The exciting 21 year-old wicket-keeper batter has been handed his international debut in the 1st ODI against WI at Multan.

Slated on the team sheet to be fielding (not keeper) and batting at #5.

How do you think he will get on?

Should be a floater IMO for this series.

If Fakhar and Imam get a good start then send the kid in to smash it with no pressure on him that he will be dropped if he fails.

Nice to see Rizwan handing him the cap... sarfraz is too insecure and would never be so chummy with a fellow Wicketkeeper due to his insecurity regarding his actual playing ability. Rizwan is an alpha male who knows he can perform and has no insecurities.

sarfraz would bann all keepers from domestic cricket if it was upto him

Rizwan is head n shoulders above Sarfraz in all formats ... period

What an utterly reckless innings. Won't last at this level if this is how he normally plays.

Shows signs of inexperience. Also more of an opener who is uncomfortable having to build an innings in the middle overs.

Dumb decision to play him. It shows that rameez raja is now intervening in playing 11.

He should warm the benches as he is inexperience

Some things will never change. Even with a more competitive domestic set up we still aren't trusting the system.

Guys like M Haris, M Wasim jnr should be top performers in FC/List A for a few seasons before getting selected. We need to reward consistency. A few T20 outings shouldn't be criteria for selection.

But we have no other choices so it's the right move to have him in the squad.

I agree. And i have given up on this now....

People don't uneerstand this concept. And just want to see domestic psl players to play in pakistan colors

Wicket keeping is an issue normally yes they should top the charts however when you have a 35 year old as a back up keeper then I'd take someone who's alot younger but has shown promise.

There is a difference between taking a back up and playing a back upm

I have no issues with harris warming the benches as that will help him more. Him playing is not needed, especially when the first choice keeper is fine.

Yes I agree but just imagine rizwan getting injured before the world cup.

Let him play domestic cricket for a couple of years. Obviously nowhere near ready for this level.

A bit too cocky for his own good? Hope he doesnt become another Haider Ali type enigma.

Lots of players haven’t put up much in terms of runs or wickets in their first few matches. Even Asif got torched in Australia. He’s young and needs to be given a long rope. He has a great mentor in Riz as well.

Lightning quick behind the stumps:

I will still back him for the next 2 series

Really have high hopes with this guy

Needs to be given a couple of more series to see what he is made off, cant judge him on 2 games granted he failed on both games, but needs to be given fair chance

Fumbled a couple of difficult but possible takes behind the stumps which both went for 4 byes. At that stage it felt like he really was having a horror show.

But he pulled it back with 2 brilliant and crucial stumpings. The natural talent is there. He’s ahead of the likes of where Sarfaraz and Rizwan were when they first came into the team as understudies. It’s up to whether he can go away and do the work like they both did to become consistent performers (at least for a purple patch with sarfaraz).

Really quick hands in that Akeal Hossain stumping. He has some real skills to play unorthodox shots alongside normal ones while batting as well.

He has been inducted early but, thats mainly to do with the lack of whiteball keeper options as backup to Rizwan. He with a good List A season or so alongside impact in PSL made the way to the national team.

Now that he is with the national team, he should be given a longer run to prove himself. No 5 and 6 are pretty difficult positions in LOIs, so once the players which management things are right for the role are selected then they should be given a longer run as otherwise really difficult for anyone to establish oneself at those numbers considering the varying scenarios one might have to face.

Just dont want him to become another Haider Ali

Haris couldn't have asked for a better opportunity - not a top 3 opposition, at home, in an inform team with full support.

Could not showcase his talents fully.

I think like any wicketkeeper, he draws his strength from his day job - which is keeping.

Since he hadn't kept before batting in any of the games, it may have impacted him.

Anyways, plenty to to work on but good on him to have earned the opportunity when he did.

I personally dont think he will make it and was very lucky to get debut and play all three matches especially ahead of Abdullah Shaf

Shahid Afridi not happy with Haris selection:

“It was a foolish decision by these people. I won’t say this to Ramiz Raja but if Mohammad Wasim is listening, I ask him to don’t take such steps. Why are you selecting a player who performed in two T20 matches for ODI cricket? Is the process that easy to earn Pakistan’s cap? He [Haris] should have played T20 cricket (and not One-Days) if he was selected on the basis of performance in the shortest format"

“I also back the inclusion of young players but atleast let them play domestic cricket before you bring them into international cricket. You have Sarfaraz and Rizwan as well to chose from and it is not as if Rizwan’s cricketing days have finished that you have brought in another player in his place"

Not the first time this has happened in recent times and probably won't be the last.

Hope Afridi is kept away from any sort of management role in the PCB. Seriously idiotic comments. Haris has performed poorly but we are close to a World Cup and we need to blood youngsters. Especially in dead rubbers against West Indies.

Why would we bring in Sarfraz who is old and unfit when we can bring in new blood. We missed years of Rizwan’s youth because we were afraid to blood in youngsters for so long!

Ramiz has his downsides but he is doing a good job with selections so far. Even Dahani got a chance!

Rizwan's replacement - pressure to perform?

Not a great outing

Its early days but doesn't have the stats in FC to suggest that he has a long term future at this level. Let the lad play a whole season and the same goes for Haseebullah

Has looked like a guy from Shahzaib Hasan's school of batting. A knee jerk selection from our visionary selector. Select Rohail as a back up keeper. If you're looking for a middle order batter, select a middle order bat. I would choose Qasim Akram as Haider Ali has looked awful reently.

Whoever is backing/selecting this tullaybaaz, arrogant hack should be sacked immediately. He shouldn't be anywhere near 2XI domestic squads let alone PCT.
Even Azam Khan is 100 times better than this hack.
Haseebullah hasn't debuted in First-class yet, even he seemed better in Pakistan Cup & was also a prolific scorer in age group cricket (U19 WC, Asia Cup).
On what basis is he Selected in PCT, 1 PSL hacked Fifty???
Is he a prolific Domestic Scorer? No.
Then, on what basis is he selected.
His attitude also seems iffy, with all his #BetheBest theatrics.
I guess, it is Ramiz who is backing him, after he scored that 50, when he said that he should be back.
He shouldn't be anywhere near the team for atleast 2-3 years.
His selection is as bad as Musa Selection for Aus tour.
People don not realise how good Rizwan is & how much there is a gap between him and next best WK.
He hasn't been been that good yet in ODIs, but I am pretty sure he will come good, as shown by his List A performances. But then, Teams aren't regularly playing ODIs these days, he needs few matches before WC23 for settling in ODI setup. People were also doubtful regarding him in t20s before he shut their mouths forever.

I have seen Qasim akram bat on many occasions he is many level below Haider Ali. Haider has been dominating in first class. Rohail Nazir had a poor domestic season last year and he’s a very poor batsmen tbh. Haris is far from ready but he has much higher potential then Rohail who frankly is a poor bat. Haider has struggled in t20s and he shouldn’t be playing that format. Should be in our odi and test squad. Qasim akram is just bits and pieces cricketer.

On what basis are you making the assumption that Qasim Akram is bits and pieces and Rohail is a poor bat?
Rohail scored an FC century in NZ. His batting in t20 format shouldn't be the reason for his non selection in ODI and Test squads. His form of late in FC has been poor agreed. But don't think saying Rohail is a poor bat makes sense.

Rohail has awful technique and it’s getting worse the more I see him play. Looks off balance all the time while playing shot and constantly shuffling. Plus on what basis should he be selected for odis and tests he’s been awful in list A and first class. Qasim akram won’t get in as a bat or a bowler. His was one of the worst bat in the first class season that too on them flat tracks. His bowling in international won’t be any better then Salman Agha. What have they don’t to be selected in first place.

Very disappointed! He needs to go back to domestic cricket and work on the art of scoring runs.

Haseebullah can only open and for that reason shouldnt be picked in odis or t20s.

Finally!

Harris meri Jaan

Khuch Aisa karde ke teri jagga pakki ho jaye!

Finally got his chance. Not impressed by his performances in PSL but let's see he can't be worse than khusdil

Goodluck to him.

He will open in all probability.

Knowing Babar, he will open with Masood and himself to not disrupt the status quo, bring in Haider and Iftikhar and then Asif, then Haris will walk out at number 7 with 2 overs left.

Let’s hope he does something and doesn’t bat like the way he did in last national t20 game. It was embarrassing to say the least swinging everything to cow corner. He’s far a better player then that.

I will only watch this game if Haris opens. I have had enough of this nonsense from Babar of sticking with same opening pair. Babar and Rizwan pair in AU will be awful to watch on much more bouncy surfaces. Pak will be heavily relying on bowlers to win them the games in AU if they do not change the opening pair. We need attacking players to open.

Babar and Riz who play fast bowling with so much ease and time are gonna struggle on Aussies pitches? Iv heard it all now. Honestly I don't know how some here are constantly slapped with stats but still refuse to wake up. Do you all play ignorant by choice??

Well if he opens then i hope Babar comes at no.3.

Shan at no.4 will be useless then I guess. Shan is ruining the team combo

Good luck to M Haris

Haris not doing anything big - smart stuff from him,

Should have tried him at 5 or 6 even if he opens in the domestics. Our opening is set, and even if Rizwan is injured Shan Masood is ahead of Haris in the pecking order. The middle order is our Achilles heel, but Babar Azam is afraid to try new things.

Kudos for showing some urgency, but he looks a bit brainless. Three shots in the first couple of overs were total misjudgements of the line.

He hasn’t earned this . Pakistan caps are given away for free . Just a one okay season with zalmi and that’s it . Because Ramiz wants to act cool by picking a newbie so he gets selected

7 off 8 balls. Not the greatest debut but showed he has the shots and power to clear the field

This could work in PSL but not in international cricket.

So far he has made little impression on me. He is poor batsman down the order and unknown quantity at the top of the order. He needs to play FC and bat at 6 or 7,and develop his batting

He is clean hitter but he will not go any where if he keeps playing poor shots. He should have assessed the pitch and then play shots.it is fine to play cautiously for a couple of overs. In T20 you can catch up once we’ll set.

Has potential but far too green for international cricket. Should be playing domestic and improving his skills in FC but Pakistan's wicketkeeping options are so poor. Haseebullah looks like a difference maker but far too young at the moment.

Should probably bring back Sarfraz to be the backup WK just for developmental purpose for the younger players like Haris.

Silly shot that.

You cannot treat international bowlers like you are facing local club bowlers.

Called it before the game he’s been batting like a brainless hack these days as is the case with with majority of our young batsmens.

The boy is very talented, but he is being rushed to the intl. scene.

Let him play at least two full seasons of FC and some more PSL cricket before pitting him up against intl. quality bowlers.

Fortunately, it does not come as natural as in your case.

Back to the subject. We will see this opening pair performance in AU.
