Virat Kohli - The Mega Discussion

And Pujara played better than the talent
Why is so much hate from indian fans to Rohit.common guys he was playing his first test outside india and one failure all are at his back.Kohli, pujara all took time to adjust.give him some time he is back after couple of centuries.

Sharma deserves criticism ... If it wasn't for 'talunt Talunt' chant over his batting since debut , then he wouldn't have been part of ODI side ,after soooo many failures ....

That AUS series can never b judged as it was flatter than the usual flat pitch , were kohli cud wack a 50-60 ball 100 twice & Faulkner... Wats great in scoring double in that pitch ....

In the very next series against a sub standard WI attack, he managed only one 50 ...

I'm still not convinced abt him.... Either he does well in SA or he'll just remain an IPL phenomena who got lucky with chances in international cricket :msd

Rohit Sharma is very loose.

Pujara looked good.Really good.Unlucky he got run out.

Kohli is a special player no doubt.

India needs to carry on and score 400.

Where is my dude Kiwi ?? PHATTA KING MATE :))....
Do you see me bragging about Taylor scoring a hundred on a green wicket? No, because I know the wicket flattened out and was easy to bat on after the first hour.

You need some luck early and he had some, but credit to him for playing his shots and scoring 100.

Also the wicket has flattened out pretty quickly, as much as you'll like to deny this just because the game is in SA doesn't make it automatically green or difficult. Nonetheless Kohli played brilliantly against a great bowling attack.

Vijay also deserves credits as he did a great job shielding the middle order from the early threat of Steyn and Philander.

SA should score 500-600 pretty comfortably the wicket looks a belter, the wicket doesn't look a result wicket and both batting line ups are strong on these wickets.

:79: not sure if you were watching same game.

Were you? :manzoor

Allan Donald conceded that his bowlers may have bowled a little wider and shorter than they were supposed to, but added that India hadn't run away with things. He did expect a bit more from the pitch though and went on to suggest it might turn out to be a belter.

Gotta love this kid :)).. So let me break it down; Kholi was lucky and the wicket was FLAT :)))... I saw the whole innings and it had seam and bounce through out the entire Kholi innings and some after.. Good comical value you are in the Itduzz and Cars mode

It was not just that the wicket has flattened out. South African bowlers, especially Philander and Steyn were rendered useless with the old ball. Once the initial burst was seen through, only Morkel looked threatening. I now understand what Pakistani posters said last year. Watch yourself for 20 overs and score after that.

What has been even more surprising is South Africa's inability to break through with the 2nd new ball! With two FTBs (apparently) at the crease,Steyn and Philander couldn't show a sign of wicket! Maybe they can be excused because they were bowling all the day..

Maybe zip gate has exposed SA? :13:

Expect Steyn to come good but Philander was exposed by the Indian batsmen.

I'm sure India won't have problems in the 2nd innings if Vijay and Dhawan see through 10-12 overs. Imran " I can't land the ball" Tahir has been bowling some epic pies.. :))

Hahah Ofcourse he is the bowling coach of SA, he will make excuses for not batting after lunch as they are used to nowdays. There was movement and bounce whole day, it is just Indians left the ball very well. If they played those balls, they would have gotten out. Give credit where it is due.

I liked what Vijay was doing. He was doing exactly what opener should be doing. Reminded me of Akkash Chopra in 2003 Australia, even though he didn't score a lot but he took the shine off the bowl which made it easier for middle order.

Only if Dhawan comes to the party like Sehwag did..

Agree with the bounce but there wasn't much sideways movement.

The Indian batsmen showed good application though, the Aussies could learn a trick or two from them before the big series.

Something tells me Warner may eat Philander alive if he applies himself early on :))

For me the moment of the day was when he played that brutal pull of steyn!
Completely pwned him there, steyn almost completely stopped bowling short to him thereafter :))

Really gotten into the faces of the Saffers, not only with his batting but with his interview as well. Things have just gotten interesting.

Cracking ton earlier today eh? Pity the way he got out, it seemed as if Kallis set him up or something.

SA bowlers aren't that good with the old ball - SA always seem to struggle if they do not break down the opposition early enough (to their credit, they do this regularly). They were lucky to get a few soft dismissals, else India would have surely run away with things.

Some of his pull shots look a little like Ponting's... I see a bit of similarity here between Ponting and Kholi...

To be honest I feel Kohli is more closer to KP than Ponting. Ponting was very authoritative with this pulls, Kohli is not there yet, but he plays spin better than Ponting.
Overall, Kohli needs to perform at 50+ avg for atleast 2 years before the genuine comparisons start with KP let alone an ATG like Ponting.

Don't get me wrong - Rosco's ton was very good, but you're a Pakistani right?

He is an Indian Kiwi who hates India and England and loves South Africa.

Pretty confusing.

No I'm a lurker more than a poster here and I've seen him being a big fan of Afridi and M. Amir and those guys...only Pakistani cricket supporters do that.

He has a curious liking for mercurial Pakistani cricketers. Don't think he's a Pakistani though.

The pitch was by no means a green mamba made to show by Kohli's compatriots barring Rahane who looked at ease. It just goes to show that if you play sensibly ,you can reap the rewards later .

Excellent application of patience and dominance . This might just be the turning point for Kohli in his test career .

We'll see how easy this pitch is to bat on when SA have finished.
But SA is batting on 2nd day when the pitch has eased out..Morning 10 overs was fresh & it doomed indian lower order....
Having said that, SA is batting against an ishant, new commer shami , & lack of match practice zaheer & spinners ..... So there is no comparison :68:

What are you guys talking about? This guy is a Fluke. Ahmed Shehzad is the current and future great:misbah

A difficult pitch to bat on and has only gotten worse with time. Kohli played a superb knock, he rightly rated it as his best so far.

Re: Virat Kohli

Keep it up BulletDrive, whoever BD supports usually fails and whoever he dislikes performs :)). Amazing guy to have as a enemy, keep up the good work :19:

I like to pick on BD but ironically he is a big Kohli fan. Dude would be happy to see him do well.

Always rated him, every since he scored a century against us during our 2 test tour there in a crucial situation.

What a player, though i still feel he isnt the best young test batsman going around, but he surely is 2nd behind Indias very own Pujara

I feel we need to exclude these two guys officially from the 'young' list. They belong to the big league now :amla :misbah

I was not talking about performance stats wise, I feel Kohli plays a similar pull shot to Ponting....

Nope. Ponting achieved phenomenally well on that front.

Kohli is a long way ahead of Ponting in the tosser stages, Ponting took some time to be disliked, Kohli took about two games.

Also I suspect you might be slightly biased

Similar players, competitive and easy to dislike. But that is a part of what makes them good players. Nobody liked McGrath either.

Kohli is yet to badger an umpire for decisions, claim bump catches, ask people to stay the f* away even when being asked about his own well being, go mongrel full throttle when confronted by the media etc etc.

Both do not come with best of behaviours.. but Ponting is absolute class and miles apart in that regard.

Don't worry. Kohli will get there eventually.

Yawn ok Kohli is an angel.

He does have an attitude, but he is a player exuberating with confidence and a perfect replacement for Tendulkar. To be honest he is a bigger match-winner than Tendulkar as he seems to perform exceedingly well with his back pushed to the wall.
