Virat Kohli - The Mega Discussion

good innings today- not his most fluent though. Wow, shows how good he is, scores 70+ but still not his best innings

of course UV clogged the strike but Kohli didn't go big either. And didn't look for twos too.

How can you when you are not even getting the strike? If you are getting only 2 delivery every over, it wont be the bad ones

Lahori I will appreciate this but I want to see this consistency of attitude from Kohli

Kohli always does this, he's always the first to congratulate every opposition batsmen after a milestone. Good stuff from him.

So Kohli seriously is becoming one of the greatest LOI batsmen ever as he's improving his attitude too :ahmed

Classy classy stuff by Virat he plays hard but still has the class to shake Sangas hand after his matchwinning knock

Virat Kohli, What a gesture, #Respect.

Shakes Sangkara's hand after his fifty. Then at the end of the match embraces him.#Respect.#Class.

He always congratulate oppositions so nothing new here. Also, it is Sanga's last T-20 so you can expect players to congratulate.

Not sure why folks are surprised here. I have seen Kohli sledging in field but if opposition does well, then I have seen him congratulating and giving respect most of the time. You guys got to remember that Indians and SL players play a lot with each other and that's why you see this hug by Kohli despite losing the final here. I don't think it will go to this level if Indians had lost to Eng.

Good to see such stuff. At the end of the day, it is only a game of cricket.

It seems some fans have paranoia, give the opposition their due credit, when they have performed exceptionally well, instead of living in denial at all times.

Sangakkara was saying something very earnestly to Kohli as he was being congratulated; am I imagining things or did the mike pick him up saying "you're the best...something something", maybe in reference to his current form?

Anyway nice to see from both of them.

It was right in the middle of battle.

Not at the end

Hopefully makes up for the disrespect I thought he showed Yuvi and Dhnoi through open displays of frustration at their inability to get the ball away at times. Does the same for himself as well so I may be reading too much into it.

I was going to say the same thing. It's the same hug that Watson gave Smith after the SA series because they played together at Rajasthan.

Congratulating him during the match is unusual though. You're usually taught by coaches to not give an inch on the field, but to be gracious off of it. Most players wait till after to congratulate someone for a 50 or a ton, unless it's an extreme case like Tendy or Waugh retiring where I saw opposition players shaking his hand after the dismissal.

Sanga genuinely admires Kohli, he has praised him on many occasions. He went even further to state that Kohli at 25 has more talent and has achieved more than anyone in the game. It's mutual respect.

Re: Virat Kohli: Class Act!

A defeated man is always humble. :msd

This. He has no choice but to be.

However good to see he is no longer a sore loser and is gracious on defeat. Signs of maturity.

Virat Kohli: Class Act!

It's scenes like this that make me such a romantic for cricket!!

I think game was literally over by then. You are right about exceptional cases like Tendulkar or Waugh but here we are talking about one player not the whole team congratulating Sanga that way.

I would have waited till match was over but I am fine and not really surprised to see Kohli hugging Sanga.

I think Kohli has been taking some lessons on how to be a leader off the field as well as on the field. Definitely India's future captain.

Yep, it was great to see Kohli congratulating Sanga like that and I was surprised.

Shami? According to some he's meant to be the brightest prospect from the SC after Amir

bowling prospect doesnt mean much in India. He indeed has good tools, lively pace, lovely outswing and superb reverse swing. But India has no ability to develop bowlers so he will go no where. Dhoni will bowl him day in and day out and burn him out of pace soon.

True but there's something different about Shami...Typically Indian bowlers wear out quite quickly but he's been good since sachins farewell series in ODIs and Test...barring the woeful Wellington and SA test.
He didn't make today did he? :misbah
Haha touché ;)

Prospect counts for nothing in the long term. You need to actually deliver. Also, I think bowlers hunt in packs. Having good bowlers around you makes you more effective. That's the main reason for Ajmal getting used in defensive way. Rest of the bowlers are not really good in Pakistan. Imagine if Ajmal was playing for SA. He would be used for picking wickets rather than stopping runs in all formats.

Shami is surely very skilful. Moves the ball both ways with new ball and can reverse is probably better than anyone. If he was playing for SA then he would have been a lot more effective.

Dhoni prefers trundlers like sharma, sharma, kumar, kumar and kumar. Now figure out all the 5 players yourself. :srt

Ok I'll put this out there. he is the best batsman I have seen in the last 30 years out of India, age-wise, technique, temperament and sheer bloody mindedness. He's going to be better than tendulkar and will break some records. (If he doesn't get injured)

I would disagree since I know that you have seen Sachin debut and smash attacks all over the world in the 90s. But I respect your view (bolded statement) - your personal opinion and you are very well entitled to it - Fair enough :)

The way Virat has risen to the top is simply astonishing to say the least, the difference between him and tendulkar is that sachin was marked on early for greatness, everyone from the beginning sorta knew this guy would break records.
Whereas for Virat, although he was seen as a very good batsman but no-way did people think he was destined for greatness.
But he has risen and how!

His next challenge- England
After doing well and scoring centuries in Aus, SA and Nz I'm sure England shouldn't be too much of a problem.

A 200 or a couple of centuries in ENG test series will seal the deal for him :)

I hope our bowlers perform better though, we got to take 20 wickets to wina match else it would be draw like Jo'burg or NZ test

The England series will be the big test for Kohli.I want to see how he counters the swinging ball. All the acknowledged great indian batsmen have done well in England and the ones at the doorstep like Laxman , Sehwag have failed.
Also Anderson will start becoming lethal again :)

Closest thing to being the first of the greats from THIS generation.

Its evolution simply. From Gavaskar to Tendulkar to Kohli, they have all shown remarkable improvements.

Legend.

Re: Virat Kohli

He has always been rubbish in the ipl barring a few games here and there.
He doesn't have the same focus for ipl that he has for intl matches.

That's a good thing. The guy has his priorities right.

Unlike some of the Windies and Lankan players that get accused of bottling it at the international level and bossing in the IPL.

I think its a convenient excuse. This guy is too driven and focused to not turn up for street cricket let alone for the IPL. I'd say previously, he wasn't a very good T20 player and now he is simply out of touch.

Dodgy how he scores centuries against the best bowlers in the world yet struggles in this crappy league

Good on you :kohli, fail as much as you can here; but do turn on the beast mode in England :) :))

Same thoughts.

Last year he did do well in IPL.

But he does have on and off seasons in different IPLs.

Was never a T20 great.

Him pujara rahane and hopefully dhawan will pile on the runs in England against Jimmy and Broad. But its our trundler brigade I'm worried about. Shami needs support. Otherwise we can expect another whitewash.

His T20 international stats are even better than AB D

Strike rate of 130, average of 45. ABD averages 22 with a strike rate of 125
