4 of them against India and Sri Lanka, one against the Kiwis (Pringle, Davis, Nash Larsen etc) and one against ZImbabwe (Streak, Strang, Whittal)..Such scary bowling line ups :P

Kohli will do well in TEST format also, he plays very less shots in the air. Which is a very rare and good quality in cricket......

Scored 2 100s in 3 matches against a bowling attack having a bowler bowling 150+. Now tell me who out of Srinath, Prasad, prabhakar, Kumble, Raju, Bhajji, Wickremsinghe, Vaas, Murali, nash, Pringle, Streak etc bowled 150+.

Oh yeah, do wash your face before you start doing this analysis.

Are you counting centuries in both away and neutral venues? He scored one century away and rest were either at home or neutral venues.

now coming bk... 2 mr kholi... 7 odis 100s name me a single world class bowler (Who was not coming to the end of his career) in those matches:yk name me a single pitch on wich u felt ur pants gonna get wet by seeing it:wasim.. in wich 7 100s boy played...

trust me realty gonna hurt u again:yk

when inzi came in early 1990s the most numbers of 100s in odi was abt 16 if im not wrong..:ajmal

CT bhai too many smileys.
Becoming 'emo' :yk

Anyways, way to go for Kohli. He has to cosolidate his place in test side.

I wont mind having both. They have limitations but they are still our frontline yougsters who will eventually take up the places of Tedulkar, Dravid, Laxman, Sehwag. They need to be given a good run. I'd be disappointed if Kohli ain't picked for Aussie test matches.

if imran khan was captain of india... he would neve pick raina again in test team unless he sees him in nets...:asif

and sees how he is facing those bouncers...

still remeber imran dropping majid khan... coz he thought he cant play fast bowling anymore even though few years ealier he was on of the best batsman ... wow:asif

but i guess in india its odi wich rules more... so they pick n choose test team on odi n t20 formats:akhtar

Nah, I would like to see Pujara in place of Raina. Pujara has got much better technique.

Kohli can match Tendulkar's feats to some extent: Rhodes

MUMBAI: Former South Africa cricketer Jonty Rhodes feels that India's middle-order batsman Virat Kohli has the ability to match the extraordinary feats of iconic batsman Sachin Tendulkar to some extent.

"Kohli is only 22 but he has already shown his potential with the bat. He has shown that he can be a superstar," Rhodes told reporters on the sidelines of the launch of his new range of nutritional supplements under ESN (Evolution Sports Nutrition).

"His conversion rate from fifties to hundreds in ODIs is amazing. Once he gets a fifty, he is a difficult batsman to dismiss. With regards to the stats and the number of runs scored, he has shown that he can compete with the records of the likes of Sachin Tendulkar in the long run.

"Kohli is expected to play a big role in India's success in the future. He is a fine cricketer and a fine athlete. He is a complete all-rounder," he added.

Kohli has scored 2,496 runs in 66 ODIs at an average of 45.38 with the help of seven centuries and 16 fifties.

The 42-year-old Rhodes also believed that Kohli although does not have an impressive record in Tests, having scored only 76 runs in five innings, had it in him to become a successful player in the longer version of the game too.

"The right-handed batsman has been consistent in IPL, T20s and ODIs because he plays good cricketing shots," said Rhodes.

"He plays shots all-round the park. From the team point of view, he has shown maturity. He finishes games for India and does not throw his wicket away. That's what Test cricket is all about," he added.

Rhodes, who scored 2,532 and 5,935 runs in 50 Tests and 245 ODIs respectively, felt it would be an uphill task for England, who have lost the first two one-dayers against India in the ongoing five-match series, to bounce back.

"England are a team that have come off a convincing win (over India) in their home. But being 0-2 down is always a dangerous position to be in, especially when you are playing against a quality side. England have shown that they are very good but beating India in India is a tough ask," Rhodes said.

"We all know its pretty tough to play in India. England had played pretty well recently but India have bounced back. They are the world champions. No team would like to go to England and fail to win even a game there, especially if they are the world champions. India have given England a lesson in cricket in the last two games," he added.

The South African came out in support of veteran off- spinner Harbhajan Singh, who has been dropped from the national team, saying that he has a lot to offer to the Indian team.

"Bhajji has always been a fighter and he has been known for it throughout his career. I have been dropped in my career. There are two things you can do in that situation - either sulk and say that's it I'm not going to participate or you can get back to the field. That's what he did for Mumbai Indians in the Champions League," said Rhodes, who is the fielding coach of IPL franchisee Mumbai Indians, the team in which Harbhajan plays.

"He could have said Sachin is not here, I've been dropped from the Indian team so what's the point, but he led (Mumbai Indians) from the front. That's shows the kind of guy he is. He is a real team man. He has got a lot to contribute to the India team."

As far as techinque and talent is concerned then the only name that pops up in my mind is Rohit Sharma. His performances in the CB australian series proved that he had the technique and the talent but what was lacking is temperament.
He is the best if compared to the likes of Pujara, kohli and even raina

Rohit Sharma > Kohli, Raina, Pujara, Rahane

The only problem with Rohit is he just does't score runs :))

Sir and then Afridi.. rofl

Doesnt that gives u any hint guys ..?
He lives in his own make believe world and fuels it with an opportunist jibe against Indians wenever he gets the chance.

People are stupid i believe

Anyway Kohli is a good cricketer Inzimam was great Cricketer

If you want to compare Kohli with Inzimam than you will have to wait for some time

Its not like that.
Indian board backs the players a lot more than what is the practice with PCB.
Raina is a useful player in ODI and T20. So with the hope that he ll come good with the test matches in time is the mantra BCCI follows. Raina has proved himself in the shorter version of the game + he can roll his arm over. His fielding is exceptional too.

More the players involved with all the formats of the game, better teamwork there would be.

the stat shows Trott scored more runs than virat :|
still scoring 1301 runs at 46 average is really good :19:

Fantastic prospect but needs to change his attitude. Guys like Dravid and Sachin are respected not only because how great players they are but how humble and gracious they are on and off the field.

yeah agree, hes more like Punter than Dravid,Sachin:))

epic reaction from kohli when he dropped Pollard :P
guess he is angry that Pollard hit the ball towards him :))

^^

@extendulkar: Kohli there looked like Sushmita Sen after winning the Miss Universe minus the smile

kohli is a ftb for me. What are his stats outside asia in odi and test compared to umar akmal? Umar akmal was brilliant in the test series v aus compared to kohli. Umar akmal>kohli in tests:umarakmal

1 test match and you start the comparison. Wait for test series. This was his 1st test match in Australia. Lets wait and then make our comments.

I'm Virat's biggest fan as I know him even before the day he made his debut for India. He used to take coaching in West Delhi. I have met him 2-3 times. Terrific talent but a guy full of attitude. No doubt about that. Quite concerned about his looks as well. He won't give an interview if he thinks his hair is not well done[Spikes most of the time]. But a really nice guy.

Full of attitude & then a real nice guy. A bit of contradiction going on there mate.

Anyways  to those who think Kohli is better than Umar Akmal. Umar Akmal has the ability to become the NO.1 batsmen in the world and I bet if U.Akmal was in Kohli's position as in playing with that dream batting line up and proper coaching, Akmal would be the NO.1 batsmen.

Yes,nice guy. Attitude in good sense.

Well, better we don't make comparisons here. Umar Akmal is a terrific talent. There's a difference between these 2 lads though. Akmal is an attacking player who can take the attack to the opposition. Sometimes, doesn't play according to the situation and thus loses his wickets. His talent is immense though.

Kohli is less talented as compared to Umar but has a better temperament. He knows how to build his innings. He doesn't have an attacking game like Akmal. Kohli will take some balls to settle in. Takes singles, hits 4s when it's needed. He won't hit many 6s. Aerial shots isn't his strength and before you realize,he'll be 30-40 off run a ball. That's the reason he's the highest run getter in 2011 in ODIs and 2nd highest in 2010.

do u think kohli has technique for swing and seam pitches? akmal has the talent but needs to pick the right balls to hit. kohli does need to sort out his attitude. good luck to both players. i rate rohit sharma the highest of the lot. where is pujara nowadays?

Kohli will be back , he will soon start scoring big and consistently. I do not know why is he finding it hard. He will the best test batsman in next ten years alongwith darren bravo.

Best batsman of the next 10 years? Mate, he's not even the best young test batsman from his country

This guy is seriously overrated

i think hes an immense talent, but i cant stand him. every time hes involved in any dismissal, all anyone can see is his mouthing those same vulgarities. im sure im not alone in very much hoping hes a complete failure simply on account of being an a*****e.

Yes,Rohit Sharma is rated highly by all the experts. I don't know how many Pakistanis have seen rohit. But he's a fantastic talent. In the last 6-8 months,he's been in terrific form.

Pujara, got injured and that's why missed the selection for this Australian tour as otherwise he's above Rahane in the list. Pujara has been a prolific scorer in the Ranji for 2-3 yrs. Everytime you see his score, you're sure that it's above 100.

He's fit now, playing Ranji now. Will come back in the reckoning in the year 2012.

Virat,Rohit,Pujara r tipped to be the guys who'll replace Dravid,Laxman,Sachin in the near future[2-3 years].

Yes,he has to stop those unneccessary abusing. I think it's more of a case of im-mature rather dan anything else. He's young and probably,he thinks all of this cool. He's basically a party guy and falls in the Yuvraj Singh kind of category who likes to party hard,be around with girls and stuff. Typical delhite.

But on the field,he's a different person all-together. Also, the guy has enough guts. He lost his father when he was 19. He came on to bat for Delhi the day after he lost his father, played a brilliant 70 odd and saved Delhi. I knew from there on in,that this lad will surely come into the team sooner or later. But I never thought he'll be topping the charts in ODIs.

Congrats viral.
The boy is a future star no doubt but he has to fix his attitude. Playing on 99 he loses his cool and his bat in the air. Needs to keep his cool and concentration as opposed to being the angry young man because in reality no one likes the angry young man.

True, I think Kohlis century celebration was better than Laras 400 celebration.

I think he needs to lessen those profanities...like seriously, there are families and kids watching the game...every other word from his mouth is directed towards mom or sister...

Kohli is shopping and also making runs....

Our grand pas are practicing but still not even getting to 20. What does it tell ya? Expired product.

LOL

what's up with these hot headed cricketers lately? gambhir has his moments, virat, our very own shebby, tim southee, there are others as well.

it's not like any of them are THAT great

but congrats to kohli, too bad the rest of the indian lineup couldn't put up a fight.

Pathetic celebration, he thinks he's soo bad or something...

Good knock albeit on a fairly placid wicket. But a knock made under pressure when more illustrious comrades were falling like dominoes around him. He's got a bit of mongrel, Kohli. Reminds me of Navjot Sidhu.

What was the fight between him and the australian fielders?
Heard of a lot of gaalis' from V.Kohli....

The only problem with this lad is attitude. Congratulations Virat on your debut century.

Good applause from the Adelaide crowd and some congratulatory handshakes from the OZ. We sledge the shyte out of the opposition players but we know how to respect their achievements as well.

I don't mind it. He's got a bit of mongrel. Just as long as he can take as good as he dishes out.

Don't you think that they are like role model to us or any other young player. Look this is what Sanjay Manjrekar tweeted.

No wonder young players are getting more abusive... I see many tweeters here thinking that's agression

What a way to get to his maiden hundred... Will he really want his kids seeing him swear like that in his moment of glory?

Congrats anyway, nice to see the aussies go upto him at the end, even though he appeared to still want to carry on te fight.
