"We achieved success in isolating Pakistan even among Islamic countries" : Sushma Swaraj

India has achieved success in getting Pakistan isolated even among Islamic countries in the aftermath of the terror attacks, External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj said Friday.

Swaraj was addressing a meeting organised in support of the BJP’s candidate in the Malkajgiri Lok Sabha constituency, N Ramachandra Rao.

“We achieved success in isolating Pakistan even among Islamic countries in the world,” she said in Hindi.

Swaraj recalled how India was invited to the inaugural conference of the OIC countries in 1969 but could not attend the proceedings due to pressure put by Pakistan.

She added that India attended the OIC’s 50th anniversary meet in March even though Pakistan tried to get Swaraj ‘disinvited’.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has made relations with Islamic countries so strong and this is the benefit of his foreign visits, she asserted.

That's not even remotely true. Yes, the Gulf countries are making billions by selling their oil to India but that is the extent of the relationship. Regular Hindu workers in the Gulf are pretty much outcasts compared to Pakistanis, who by virtue or the religious ties are far closer and more integrated.

This Sushma lady is lying out of her teeth. The OIC humiliated India by calling it out on the Kashmir issue a day after she went there and ranted about India's position on Kashmir. The OIC pretty much said "cool story, bro" and supported Pakistan.

Also, I actually want India to gain a closer relationship with Muslim countries so that the situation for Indian Muslims improves. So at least on this issue, I do hope India wins out over Pakistan. However, to suggest that it will ever be as important to the Muslim world or have closer ties to them than Pakistan is silly.

Like I said, Modi was not even allowed to hint at Pakistan in their joint statement on terror and although Imran secured the release of many Pakistanis detained in Saudi prisons, Modi was unable to do the same for his countrymen. To add, from his very first speech, IK was extremely clear that all he wants for Pakistan is to grow economically; and with India being a good trade partner/neighbor. IIRC the very day he won the election he said this.

India is an emerging market and no longer a 3rd world country. Sure its not 1st world nation (yet) but along with Brazil/China, it is the fastest growing economy. For example, pick any emerging market fund from top companies in US or UK and check their major investments. You would mostly find its divided into Brazil, India and China. I myself hold portfolio in 2 such funds

Its getting plain boring now .I thought we are debating rationally but all the responses I am getting is either 'LOL' or some 1975 image. Yet to hear a logical opposing view.

A third world country dont have the space programme India has, a third world countries GDP dosent flourish, foreign investors dont flock, dont host 3rd richest sports league etc etc. Ofcourse its not a 1st world yet and hence I said its the fastest growing emerging nation. Why would Islamic countries have bad relations with Pakistan? Those who think so are misinformed. Apart from the two neighbors, Afghanistan and Iran, Pakistan has wonderful relations with all other Muslim countries including those in the Gulf as well as South East Asia.

That’s just bad politics.. but I can see why it’s happening since BJP failed to keep some of the promises and now they want to distract the attention. In Pakistan though it’s much worse than India. At least in India the politicians worry about the common man holding them accountable for unfulfilled promises.

In Pakistan leaders like shared and zerdari don’t care because they know the common man ko aram se ulloo banaya ja sakta hai.. they loot and Plunder for years and then claim to be saints and know that their supporters will believe them.

I think what Sushma ji is saying have some merit. Gulf countries consider India as a better partner than Pakistan. Hence, PM Modi was recently honoured with country's highest civilian decoration honour of Zayed, India being invited as special guest in OIC meet, Afghanistan's ever growing friendship with India etc etc.

If Pakistan was an important ally in muslim world, India would have been boycotted bcoz of so called atrocities in Kashmir or whatever Islamabad claims. But that is not the case....the relationship of India is thriving with muslim world and it only shows how much importance is given to Pakistan.

She has forgotten the hard slap given to her at the recent OIC meeting We are okay with most Islamic countries from where I am standing. It is mostly Afghanistan, Iran and parts of the Arab world we have issues with. Relations with these two need to be improved however India can not be credited for souring them.
