What a gun player Holder is. Lead over 400. Dibbly Dobbly England seamers don't make an impact. Ian bishop says "Engladn doesn't have someone like Umesh yadav to exploit their weakness" lol how things have changed. Umesh picked 10fer against West Indies in India.

Anderson and Stokes are hardly dibbly dobblies. I think we all agree that Curran is the wrong horse for this course.

England will have to treat this as a practice match, and figure out the best team and approach to win tests two and three.
 
Try as they might, no team will EVER be as cool as the WI.

Holder is such an inspirational captain.

Anderson is a medium pacer. He rarely touches 140k. Stokes probably can hit that speed. But he doesn't reverse like Umesh.

Not dibbly dobblers but it has only medium fast bowlers currently. Just too slow to make a real impact. The batting is undoubtedly the bigger issue though.

English pacers always bowl at good pace in England. But the moment they step out of England, their speeds drop.

I have seen the likes of Broad, Anderson trundle badly in India. I guess the weather gets to them and they do not want to exert themselves too much.
 
ICC should have a category named MVP and rank them. I would expect Holder to be somewhere near the top.

Dibbly dobblies are the real military medium pacers, 60 mph people like Gooch.

I’ve seen Stokes get old ball boomerang swing both ways, got 5-30 that way.

Which specialists are better bowlers than Moeen and Rashid? Please don’t say ‘there must be someone’, give us names.

Curran averages 25 in tests with the ball. But he is not right for these conditions.

Leach for Rashid & Broad for Curran .63 overs in this innings & these 2 beauties are 20 overs , 90 for 1 .
1st innings , they were 29 overs , none for 110 out of 102 overs .
 
incidentally [MENTION=7774]Robert[/MENTION] , Rashid will not get in to any Ranji team & there are over 30 .

Whatever the name you use to call them they lack the speed to bother batsmen. Stokes swings conventionally. Not a reverse swing bowler.
 
Rashid is such an useless test match player. Are they picking him for his "batting ability"as well?

WI should try and get lead up to 600 and then have 2 days to bowl england out.
 
This guy Jason Holder is one of the most under rated cricketer around - people do lots of fantasy bakwas with Stokes, Pandeya & Fahim, but this guy is a genuine fast bowling all-rounder around, and he is quite cool as Captain as well.
 
Criminally underrated. Holder is actually the number 1 test all-rounder in cricket. Much more substance than the overrated Stokes and Curran

Thanks for sharing man, that is indeed a big praise for Umesh, always bowls his heart out, an honest trier and a workhorse, about time he gets his due credits.

Lol Pakistan could never get him out after getting the first 5 wickets of the WI innings easily in every innings. The WI probably has one of the strongest and most under-rated lower order tails in the world at the moment.

Fully agree except Fahim doesn't belong in the same sentence with Stokes and Pandya. He didn't do anything of note at all to justify the alrounder tag. A chalta phirta mediocrity.
 
England using 5 bowlers, then now using Root - probably that "All-rounder" strategy doesn't work much when you are batting 2nd.

I think they're playing too few allrounders. Should replace Jimmy with another allrounder to strengthen batting. :)

What makes you think Leach is better than Rashid? And which spinner is better than Moeen?
 
West Indies better make the most of this.

Rarely do they find themselves in a situation like in this game.
 
Number 7 and 8 have put on nearly 200 runs. Looks like WI should pick more allrounders. The specialist batters at 1-6 are not as good.

Don't think you have seen enough of Hope,Hetmyer,and Chase if you think they aren't very good:)).

They have all scored runs in difficult circumstances during their test careers so far.

Holder could bat at 7 and makes the team on bowling merit. Curran ,Ali ,and Rashid don't make the team on batting or bowling merit.

Broad and Leech should come in the next game.

A middle order of Root,Stokes ,Bairstow ,and Buttler shouldn't be dependent on batting depth till 10!
 
Honestly, WI might be ahead of us in the rankings in a few years.

Holder is a guy who takes his test cricket seriously and also very keen on lifting the standards and reputation of West Indian cricket. He has found some partners within the team. They always have the talent. Just that they lacked a leader to harness the immense potential at his disposal.
 
WI must bat for 2 more hours, bat, 10-12 overs on Day 4 and use the heaviest rollers available, then set Poms 650+ if possible to chase & if weather prediction is safe.

I will say declare after 600+ and bowl 10-12 overs with new ball. Again pacers will be fresh and bowl in morning. I know you are making a point to make the pitch worse, but if Eng can survive 6+ sessions then hats off to them.

Could be, but WIN has made a small error which I mentioned on Day 2 - didn't pick any spinner. But, I see still 30 overs left (I thought 15 left), so yes, 10 overs today should put more pressure on shaky Pom opening pair.
 
Holder should get to 200 and the declare. England are already dead here.
 
This is a humiliation of epic proportions by West Indies. Not even the great WI sides of 70s and 80s have dished out something like this.
 
Holder should try to break Lara’s record. WI don’t need more than 3 sessions to bowl this spineless English lineup out.

OH MY LORD!!! I thought West Indies would get bundled out for a lead of 300-350. My word have Dowrich and in particular Holder batted well!! 277 run partnership!

When is the last time West Indies dominated a Top Test Side like this? MY WORD!!!
 
Root has disappointed me again. Just as I thought he had started to learn how to captain a leggy, he keeps Rashid away in the 2nd innings...what is wrong with him?

Yeah they did, I was there. Five times in five tests both home and away.

Against teams with Boycott, Gooch, Gower, Lamb and Botham in. All of whom would walk into this awful England batting line.

Whereas none of these current West Indians would get into Lloyd’s mob.

He's batting very fast and he can certainly get 200 more runs by tomorrow.

Which is worse, English batting or bowling? Tough choice! And to think some posters went about whining that England was the true #1 Test team.
 
Wow amazingly played Holder! These guys put on a show like I haven’t seen from WI against a top side in forever.
 
I think England can easily chase this target as the pitch has flattened out pretty much
