What's new

West Indies [306 & 17/0] beat England [187 & 132] by 10 wickets in the 2nd Test, lead series 2-0

Ok you win on Curran in these conditions.

Moeen takes 3-60 off 25 first-innings overs. Which available specialist spinner would have done better?

Moeen averages 38 per wicket with strike rate of 62 . Do you think he should be your 4th bowling option ? Why not Leach & let Beard be the 6th change if you value him so much as player .
I think 4 pure bowlers + Stokes who should be not bowling more than 15-18 overs per innings is your best combo in Test .

Visitors at 21/0 have a start . Set around 170-180 as target & you have a contest .

S/R 62 is pretty good for a spinner. The Beard's role is to block an end up in the first innings and then take wickets second dig, which he is quite good at. He has won matches for England. I don't think Leach would do any better with the ball, and Leach is a tailender. There is no Swann in the wings.

Aww, Burns....

Where would you position the beard in your bowling attack is my question .
Yup , Burn't by Holder , 35/1

Has the pitch eased up ? Not the surface Nasser was talking it up pre start ... 43/1

After the four seamers have all had a go - this is the role of the English spinner - unless the wicket is turning square, in which case get him on when the shine goes off. Even Warne didn't get on for the first 25 overs.

Bowledstow gives it away again. Not a test match #3 I think.

If you bat recklessly you will be punished on this pitch. You gotta be very circumspect no matter if you bat on 50 or 100.

England struggling against Holder's dibly doblers.

Very Abbas like bowling from Holder. On the stumps and generating some serious seam movement.

England trail by 80 runs , WI ideally would love another 2 - 3 more wickets down before Poms get into lead

What a review. Spike showing up as the ball passes Root's glove.

What a Test match.

Is Jason Holder the best captain in test cricket?

What a genius with the review with the bowler not interested?

100 against this attack on a lively track will be worth remembering for any batsman.

Oh dear, bad misjudgement by Denly leaving a ball coming into him.

Even a 100 run lead looking tough for England.

Joseph is bowling like a dream. Getting movement and hitting an excellent line and length.

Dropped ! No !

Joseph is bowling tremendously but Campbell doesn't hold on.

Windies drop another. England would have bowled for less than 100 if WI could hold on to catches.

This is terrific Test cricket, absolutely loving this contest.

Dukes ball makes such a difference.

Always liked Alzarri for his aggression and good to see him pick up wickets.

Tragedy about his mom though. R.I.P.

Dukes & sporty pitch. Hopefully this trend continues in west Indies cricket. Dust bowls made their test cricket boring.

Poms trail by 58 runs now.

A lead of 150 will be good for Poms , something to bowl at .

It's very likely that WI will win 3-0 here. India vs WI later this year is going to be a blockbuster too.

Are the Windies really back as a Test team, or is it just that England makes them look good just like England makes Pakistan look good?

Should be a good contest, certainly better than last time. Indian batsmen will once again be tested against pace, and let's hope they do better than they did in SA and England.

I am sure the whole world other than Indians will be rooting for WI :)

I don't think they will reach the peaks of 80s but they can be a very competitive side given that Australia, SA, Eng are all going through a transition phase.

Just watched Ireland-England in the 6 Nations.

Better than this bobbins.

I expect moeen to go all blitzkrieg now like Curran at edgbaston. That would be the smart thing to do.

I would hate to see what West Indies would have done to England if they were not ordinary and average cricketers.

Good captaincy from Holder till now. Pak lost 3rd test match in UAE under Sarfaraz from pretty much as good a position as WI is in now (NZ was 60 for 4 with still 14 runs behind in 3rd innings) but considering how well WI bowlers are using the pitch I dont think Eng would be able to get out of this easily.

All the dismissals so far have been the batsman's fault except Root and Denly.

When pitch is difficult and batsmen dont have enough patience such dismissals take place. But, credit to WI bowlers who didnt let them get away.
