West Indies [306 & 17/0] beat England [187 & 132] by 10 wickets in the 2nd Test, lead series 2-0

bbbbbut Jack Leach should be playing instead of Moeen is it aye Hasan123? Proving again why he’s the best option for England as first choice spinner. Runs in the 1st innings and then wickets with the ball. :shh

He played well in the first innings but showed his worth just now .

England boldly in green , cavalier Foakes smashing them .oops, NOT , REVIEW & OUT .

England have been dire, but West Indies have been domineering. If they play like this, they can beat any team at home with the exception of India.

A strong West Indies Test side is wonderful for the game. This a committed bunch with a passion for Test cricket. Appointing Holder as captain was a genius move - he may very well go down as their finest Test captain post their glory days.

As far as England is concerned, they don't need to panic. This is a really good team that needs a few minor tweaks. Jofra Archer needs to be drafted into the side and they also need to find space for Ollie Pope. As far as the openers are concerned, Jennings and Denly are simply not good enough. Roy deserves an opportunity to prove his mettle in Test cricket.

It may not work, but the others are not setting the stage on fire either. I think he is too talented a player to be pigeon-holed as a white ball specialist.

Game over. England need to make some changes for the Ashes . I have no clue who they will try as openers for The Ashes. San Curran seems to be a batting all rounder so his place as a 3rd seamer is in question.

West Indies have played well and I always thought this team would do well at home.

Roach is so good

Best pace attack in the world? They have got the right variety

With this bowling attack they will be compeitive in SENA as well.

Feels like watching Windies of 90's .... awesome scenes and complete demolition of a top test side at home after a very long time by WI :gayle:

The conditions are not alien to England like in India. It's been a masterclass fast bowling performance. Not seen them destroyed like this before in recent times

Loving this new WIN - no more posedu all-rounders - 4 out & out fast bowlers to go after whatever 7 batsmen + Holder can put to defend.

I was expecting a lead around 150 should make 2nd innings academic, but this is unconditional surrender by England in both Test.

Absolutely loving it. Hopefully, WI takes it as a platform and improves from here.

Who is the next team touring WI?

7 days of cricket and series is done and dusted.

World cricket needs a strong WI side. A great series win.

India will beat them but good challenge for Indian batsmen if they get the right pitches for fast bowlers

India has a better bowling unit than Eng to exploit such conditions, but WI bowling has been absolutely top class. Roach has bowled really well. India batting is not that great, but Indian bowling may over power WI. It was good to see WI batting resisting in the last two matches a well.

WI may even win against Ind. It will be great result for them.

Moeen's performance is extremely uneven. Got hammered as a bowler in India, yet came back as a bowler to win England the crucial 4th Test in the England-India series in England.

He's rubbish outside of England with the ball. Not interested in stats.

So the Windies have shattered an England with no plan, no spine and a clueless captain.

Don't forget that SL will be beating the Australian team in Australia, as that certain posters and his buddies predicted after India's victory there :)

Australia even without Smith and Warner would beat Pakistan,Sri Lanka,West Indies ,and Bangladesh black and blue in Australia. I would back them to beat NZ as well.

I would like to see West Indies play Australia,South Africa, and New Zealand in West Indies. I think they would give them a close fight with this team.

They just need to find a specialist spinner and they could compete in Asia but would be difficult to win in Asia for them.

I am happy Pakistan already toured the Windies in 2017 otherwise it would have been some whitewash without Misbah/Younis.

We aren't touring the Windies any soon right? Haha could be fun though.

They are struggling everywhere. Just that their tailenders were able to bail them out a few times. But against high quality bowling their tail stood no chance. India ripped open their top and middle order several times in the 5 test series. India was caught off guard by Sam Curran a couple of times. There is ar eason why they are packing their side with batsmen.

Toss, with better team selection India should have won the series easily. This is such a pathetic batting line up

England buried again. Bring out the shovel. shaz619

Cricket is alive again in the Caribbean!!! just like the days of old, this feels almost like winning a World Cup as god as my witness, smashing these pansies to bits for the first time since 2009, the euphoria un-explainable! And to see my guy Roach as one of the biggest architects of it all makes this even sweeter, he was the chosen one! but then had so many set backs, to see him have his redemption is so beautiful. Captain Holder has Misbah'd England :salute Big Mac

Barbados 2 England 0 That is how wi fans celebrate lol. Wonder how many players are in this side from Barbados. Is it West Indies or Windies?

Brathwhite, Sai Hope, RL chase, Dowrich, Holder, Roach - 6 players from Barbados. No wonder WI fans joke "Barbados and neighbours" beat England lol

It is so much fun just watching the WI crowd celebrating...

Good for cricket that WI has awaken

Once the job gets done with the best team I dont care how many Bajans in team. To many times our team has been loaded with favourites rather than the best players.

Your always have incredible talents at your disposals. Just the gelling part was missing. Holder is doing a fabulous job of getting the best out of everyone. Windies is a team that everyone loves :) So power to you guys to keep going, Even in the 80s there were lot of bhajans if i am right. Greenidge, Haynes, Marshall, Garner,

The difference between the sides is that West Indies grinded and battled but Englands batsman did not have the ability to do that. All of them are really naturally aggressive players and that led to rash shots.

Barbados' cricket clubs, especially the Wanderers Cricket Club, date back to the 1800s, and have always been factories for great cricketers (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_international_cricketers_from_Barbados). They have a lot of autonomy outside the West Indies Cricket Board too, so the corruption doesn't filter down to them.

Correct, Barbados have provided alot of greats. Amazing players

Dismal by England - truly the worst batting side to wear the three lions ever.

Congrats to Holder’s brave and stubborn team. I hope they complete the whitewash which may force the ECB to make structural changes.

What a victory, absolutely delightful! To defeat an England team consisting of Root, Stokes, Butler, Anderson, Broad is a massive massive achievement. Happy occasion for most cricket fans!

I hope this will lead to the Resurrection of WI, even if they lose all overseas tours as long as they are unbeatable at home, it will regenerate interest back into cricket in WI. The IPL will also play a crucial factor for the WI players to take up cricket..

You don’t get uneven bounce in England - any County who made a wicket like this would immediately be docked 20 points by the ECB and probably get relegated. So the groundsmen make either roads or slow seamers.

So England are LO batters ill-equipped to cope in temperament and skill set. I am most disappointed by them. Oh for Strauss, Cook, Trott, KP, Bell and Collingwood right now.

Agree on all counts.

These two matches were like old school Windies v England wallopings.

We dumped Bell way too quickly.

Case for a recall still.

Misbah and Younis done nothing in that series, it was azhar who hold batting together.

I’m not sure how many of the current England team would get into the 1984 Blackwashed side. Root, Anderson, Broad I think.

Whereas Broad senior, Fowler, Gower, Lamb and Botham would walk into the current team. Never mind the banned Gooch, Willey, Lever, Old and Emburey.

So what is the deal with West Indies? Why are they pumped up against England?

They have gelled together under a responsibile and focused captain into a dogged batting unit and a competent pace attack for the first time in a long while.

Only goes to show that Pakistan's Test series victory was a terrific achievement. England has lost 3 Test Matches home and away to this WI team and are now looking a potential whitewash.

England have been woeful but West Indies have not let England have a sniff.

I really still understand how PP'ers were predicting England to be no1 test side after the Ashes. They lost 0-4 in India, 0-4 in Australia and 0-2 in WI. That is some poor record overseas.

WI winning in test cricket is one of the best things for our game.

Well done West indies. We celebrate with you.

How come every celebration worthy match has either India or England at the losing end though? :yk

Jason Holder, the Windies skipper, was delighted after his team secured an unassailable 2-0 lead in the three-Test series against England. However, his focus is now on the MRF Tyres ICC Test Rankings, where he wants to "move up the ladder" with a 3-0 series sweep.

"It is probably one of our biggest series [wins]," he explained after the third day on Saturday, 2 February. "Exceptional, to be honest. To see the guys [put in] such a performance in Barbados and come out here to beat England in three days and winning the series is just pleasing.

"We still want to win the series 3-0. Points are still up for grabs in the overall rankings. Moving up the ladder is something we have spoken about in the dressing room. It is not a situation to become complacent or relax, we need to start again just as we did here."

The hosts, who are currently No.8 in the MRF Tyres ICC Test Rankings, needed just 14 runs for victory in Antigua and they raced to the target in 2.1 overs with 10 wickets in hand.

It was an assertive performance from the Windies, who had won just one out of their last five Test series at home. The skipper, however, now wants his team to build on this win and remain "hungry for success".

"We've got to be consistent," he insisted. "It is just a matter of following up on this series and [being] hungry for success. It was a tough wicket in this game, a lot of variable bounce and the guys showed character."

Alzarri was exceptional. It took a lot of heart for him to be on the field today
Jason Holder

While limited-overs cricket, particularly Twenty20 cricket, is especially popular in the Caribbean, Holder remains confident of the region's love for Test cricket. The 27-year-old believes that success in the longest format could be "a start of new things" for red-ball cricket in his country.

"The love for Test cricket is there. We've got a lot of young players who are aspiring to be Test cricketers," said the Windies skipper. "It is my favourite format of the game. It's just a matter of clinching a few more series. Hopefully, this could be a start of new things."

Holder extended his support to pacer Alzarri Joseph, who lost his mother before play on Saturday. The 22-year-old took the field nonetheless, returning figures of 2/12 to cap off an emotional outing. Holder acknowledged his "exceptional" effort, dedicating the triumph to the young bowler.

“Alzarri was exceptional. It took a lot of heart for him to be on the field today," Holder said. "A lot of people wouldn't have been able to, but credit to him. The way he ran in this afternoon was exceptional and with a bit more luck he could have got three or four more wickets.

“To see him in tears this morning was even harder, and we came together in the huddle and we just wanted to do it for him and we dedicate this day to him, his mum and his family. It was up to him if he played. I didn't want to deprive him of the opportunity to take the field. If he felt he could manage and take the field and perform then I wasn't going to deprive him of that.

"For sure I knew he wanted to do something special for his mum and credit to him, he held his hand up high and did an exceptional job for us.”

Joe Root, the England skipper, was disappointed after losing the second Test against Windies to go 2-0 down in the three-match series.

The Windies dismantled England for 132 in the third innings in Antigua, which meant the hosts needed just 14 runs to clinch the Test. They scaled the target in 2.1 overs, completing a 10-wicket victory to seal the series.

“We came here to win and to find ourselves out of it with a game to go is hard to take," said Root after the match on Saturday, 2 February. "We have been outplayed, outperformed and have to take that on the chin.

“We have to learn some lessons. The way West Indies went about stuff in certain areas has been very skilled, especially how they batted yesterday against some very high-skilled bowling. That was frustrating.

"We haven't performed with the bat as we would have liked and that hasn't helped our case. You won't win many games scoring less than 200 twice.

“There were guys that will have to look at themselves individually. But on a surface like that, you have to commit to whatever decision you make. It was definitely a bowler-friendly surface. I wouldn’t say it was a fair contest between bat and ball. But both sides have played on it and they’ve managed certain areas better than us.”

England have the chance to salvage pride in the final Test, and Root wants his team to "respond quickly and respond well" to claim their first victory of the series.

"We've got to make sure we respond quickly and we respond well when we get to St Lucia and finish positively as a side," he explained. "We haven't had that same approach as we had in Sri Lanka of going out there and really taking sides on.

"I think there has been some very highly skilled bowling in bowling-friendly conditions and the big moments we haven't managed as well as they have."

Darren Bravo played a crucial role in the hosts' victory in Antigua, scoring a patient fifty in 216 deliveries. When asked if any batsman in England's fiery line-up can play an innings like that, Root said, “I think a number of guys can. I’d like to think I can. I felt unfortunate not to make a big contribution and when experienced players aren’t making scores over 50 it makes it very difficult for the rest of the guys around them.

“The choice comes down to the individual. I can’t bat for 11 guys, neither can Trevor Bayliss nor Mark Ramprakash. The responsibility is down to the individual. But we will stick together and try and come back with a really strong response in St Lucia.”

The final Test starts in St Lucia from 9 February.

We may have lost 1-4 at home, but at least we're not Engand :yk

WI seam bowling quartet will be handful for any team in these conditions - they possess height, accuracy, pace and movement. They attacked the stumps far more than England did.

Dobell wrote in an excellent article of how CWI CEO Johnny Grave insisted on sporting, seam friendly pitches with the Dukes ball for this series not only because it'd make for better viewing but as it plays to the strengths of this pace attack.

So what is the deal with West Indies? Why are they pumped up against England?

West Indies are always motivated against the old enemy. There's obviously the colonial history too. They have only lost once to England at home since 1968.

Windies playing against England are always motivated a bit more. Congrats to them for an allround display, again in the 2nd test.
A brilliant performance beating England on a green turner.
