Rahane might be winning all tests of Kumble but when comes the occasion Virat trumps him,not his fault but Rahane needs to thrive harder if he has to even come close to Dravid.

really shocking display by the west indies, india 290-4 at home? who would have thought that twenty years ago?? this pitch and their general attitude really doesn't bode well for the game

They just need to get Kohli and will fold for 350.

300 up for us didn't look we would reach today when Chet was playing.

302/4 decent end, thanks to quick Kohli knock alright guys hopefully we don't collapse tmrw.

Thank God we didn't lose wickets.

Ashwin always chokes towards the end of the day.

Got a couple of balls where he looked unconvincing but thankfully stayed not out.

302/4

India's day. Should really have been 330/2 or 350/3 on this pitch.

Take a bow Virat ji. Amazing knock. Need to carry on.

The way Kohli was playing...it looked like he was playing on another pitch.

So easy and effortless were his shots and run scoring.

The other end was just tuk tuking.

what shocking play from the west indies, the last 13 overs there was no urgency, didnt attack ashwin and you could tell he was a bit nervous against Bishoo. Should have taken the new bowl still baffles me why they didnt.

India will make 500 and dec, what a poor side this windies side is...

Indias day easily. Should be able to get 400 plus, Ashwin could have a field day with the ball tomorrow and day 3

Rubbish cricket from WI of course.

Didn't even properly attack.

But then we gave them 3 wickets off deliveries that should have been 4s or 6s.

In the middle...Jason Holder got the ball to climb from decent length and created a few problems. That was a good spell with the old ball.

Indians on the top at the end of 1st day. Dead wicket, during the last 2 sessions, played a big part. 500+ runs on the card at the end of the day tomorrow .... seemingly unbeatable position.

this wi side will lose by an innings, surprised they didnt go for the new bowl.

Kohli takes his Bradmanesque T20 form to Test cricket! Hopefully the five specialist bowlers we have picked help him win this test match, which a very good knock like this deserves. Yes the bowling wasn't of the best quality but cant fault Kohli for that.

Come on man. Its just one innings. Rahane is our best test bat.

As expected, WI heading towards a loss after day 1. They are minnows in tests, have been for a long time. I said they would lose 3-0 at least and I'm sticking with my prediction.

These 'minnows' recently defeated England in a Test.

They r a very good team, especially in their home ground. But sadly they r now playing against a world class test team like India and that's why they r looking so ordinary.

Had the match been played against any other team they would've performed much better:yk

World class India were under the pump at one stage gifting easy wickets. Haha.

First day was poor cricket from both sides except Kohli.

West Indies was poor yesterday no doubt about it but i expect them to get better in upcoming test and days,3 tests were enough y is there 4?

How recently? ABout 14 months ago, that's how recently.

So 14 months is not recent, but India's loss to England at home 44 months ago is recent enough to show that India is not a good enough test side?

When did I say so? Also winning 1 Test against England at home isn't any criteria, Zimboks won their last Test against Pak yet they are still minnows. The last major series win for WI is the one against Ind 14 years ago : http://www.espncricinfo.com/west-indies-v-india-2016/content/story/1037203.html?CMP=chrome

It's series like this one that win over supporters for a 2-tier system of Test cricket.

Ok..yeah got it,esp if we have to bear 4 matches, although you never know with Indian team in test cricket but yesterday was very poor by Windies.

Splendid point :14: Some people always make convenient adjustments when it comes to Indian defaming & Pakistan glorifying!

The run machine continues... Rooting for a tripple today.

That will be a real deal (if he takes his form to Test Matches). There is not much intensity in Test Matches today, players lack the determination, and if he shows the required determination then he can go on a crazy ride and pile runs after runs, records after records! It will be a deadly one man show, but the important question is can he take Test Matches that seriously?

Its his job and he must take it seriously.

He does take them seriously.

He does take them seriously.

Then shall we say Lara's record is under threat (West Indies pitches are ideal to make such records because of the soberness, and once the batsmen sets in he can keep playing shots as the ball doesn't rise surprisingly even occasionally)

I think India will reduces to 380 all out, because bowler especially Gabriel will be fresh today and ball is still new, well I think its not good idea to watch all 90 overs if you lived in asia.

Odd time to see test match.Vijay disappoint many cricket lovers 76 in 7 test innings in WI.India only win 5 test out of 45 in WI so WI will doing good no doubt about it.

Time for Ashwin to show his authority as batsman at least in Test Cricket (That will give the balance to the team like anything!) That confidence will also reflect in LOIs. He is the only guy who can answer to that long due "alrounder" call in India!

Ashwin losing a bit of concentration and playing deliveries he left so well till now.

Needs to get it back.

Discipline is needed or else he will only be a fancy 30 run stroke maker.

Gabriel really gave him a bit of a working over.

Needs to leave deliveries.

If Ashwin can develop into a good and dependable no.6 batsman, he is going to become a serious asset for us.

The guy has an immense potential as an all rounder but don't want to destroy his bowling by concentrating too much on his batting too.

Ashwin you idiot.

Everyone saw that coming.

Thankfully dropped.

It is the pace of Gabriel, that is forcing Ashwin to do, which he shouldn't. I doubt he will do something like that against holder. This some serious fast bowling from gabriel.

Yes alrounders are made with discipline and determination. India lost quite a few of highly promising players in this regard:

Irfan Pathan, Ajit Agarkar, Sourav Ganguly, Sunil Joshi, Anil Kumble...

These people all had the potential to become full-fledged alrounders if they concentrated more!

If players lose focus in both departments they don't get selected or get dropped completely. But if they lose focus in one department (when they have potential in both), that is when we lose an alrounder!

Hope Ashwin and Jadeja reassess their value in the team & their potential. They can give such critical depth to this team if they can utilize them fully. Ashwin should really stick like a gum out there!

Almost got out to Bishoo.

Its sad how much he wastes his talent.

India could do with his batting.

Yesterday he was very disciplined. Today, not so much.

Except for Irfan others didn't have the potential.

Ganguly would have been useful part timer.

Joshi, Agarkar, Kumble's batting weren't good enough to make it to AR. But they could have averaged 20.

This is the dumbest thing happening with Indian Team! Every time we see a good player turning out to be alrounder, we (selectors, media, people) are suspecting his focus on the major department! In this way we are never going to see alrounders in our team. Nobody will start as an alrounder straight away (if there are some already "tagged" they ought to be bits-and-piece guys actually) they will develop with time and it should in no way affect their major department (ask Kallis, Imran, Kapil) In fact we can also see it in a way it actually helping & giving confidence to the major department (If Ashwin gets a ton today, we can see that his confidence gets doubled while bowling and he may end up bowling out WI twice!)

Run rate is going down, I sense a wicket or couple of boundaries soon.

Actually its the other way round.

You have to wait for them to bowl the bad ball.

Ashwin could have got out trying to force a shot.

If there is a bad ball, I don't see batsmen missing out.

Just give it sometime and WI bowlers will start spraying.

One ball something happens and next ball Kohli leaves it.

That's how it must be done.

You HAVE to be boring here.

Only thing to look forward to is a Kohli 200 or may be even an Ashwin 100...apart from that this WI team is so pathetic....not even looking forward to watch them bat.....Where is the WI flair?

Don't worry guys.

Ashwin is in a rut.

He is gonna do something stupid which will either bring runs or get him out.

Some excitement is about to come. lol.
