The sad thing about this pitch is that even when you are on top, you cannot get quick runs unless you willing to slog.

If you have disciplined batting, getting you out is very hard.

Pacers have to chip in.

The ball is doing a slight bit for pacers (bounce is there) but WI don't have pacers who can exploit it. They did create a few chances but weren't consistent.

Bishoo was easily played off.

So all in all.....I am relying on WI batsmen's lullooness to get 20 wickets.
 
What's our strategy here? Bat first, bat big and ask them to follow on?

Ashwin has scored a couple of centuries before. He is not a lallu with the bat. He is an all rounder in Test Format. I trust him more than some Top order batsmen when it comes to surviving tough spell.

Poor pitch though. Poor bowling is also not helping.

Which means, worst of it's type. Cricket boards like WICB, PCB & BCB should be banned to prepare Test wickets- they are the main culprit for the decline of Test popularity. There should be an individual Wicket committee in ICC that should monitor Test wickets & fine cricket boards for unsporting wickets.

Looks like Ashwin is back to his batting best after a 1-2 year hiatus (dont know if it was the tennis elbow or just bad form) . He used an average in the 40s at a time.

Too early to say.

But this innings is due to the preparation he did with Sanjay Bangar on how to get his technique stronger and leave balls. He said he can accelerate later on but needs to get set.

That's what he did. Lost focus a bit today but then started leaving again.

He left so many balls today which he never did in the past.

If he continues to be disciplined, he has potential to average 40 at number 7.

But discipline is a BIG IF.

Instinctively he is more of the jolly breezy 30 type guy who can score big at times.

He should bat aggressively. they have 450 on board. C'mon score quickly and make them bat and give your bowlers enough time.

Ashwin is emerging as a bowling AR now. An avg of 30+ is pretty good for bowling AR.

His batting is as good as some of the wkt keepers of other teams.
 
Tells you how low the bowling stocks are when the #1 bowler goes for a century....and the number 2 is nearing his
 
Yasir is a better bowler than Ashwin.This is something we should accept as of now. But Ashwin is the best bowling AR going around.

Not really. Bowled on some really spin friendly pitches. Even Lords was UAE like. Yasir has really struggled today. He's a good bowler but not anywhere near his average. It'll go up by a few points by the time their overseas leg ends.

Ashwin is unlucky that he did not get to play in some of the more spin-friendly overseas tracks we got.
Durban 2014/Adelaide 2015. Jadeja got a 6-for in Durban.

But he won Pak the Lords Test as a standout performer and it was his first test overseas. He struggled today but so did Ashwin in many games overseas. As of now, its fair to call Yasir better bowler.It might change later but that is future thing.

India have to ensure that they are not going to bat again. The pitch is still good for batting, so no need to declare. I think they should score as much runs as they can, and declare when there will be 10 overs overs left towards the end of the day.

No. We don't know how much rain will eat up overs.

We don't know how long we need to get WI out twice.

We can always knock off a few runs fast in the end in 2nd innings but if we spend too much time, we may regret it if WI get away with a draw.
 
Why games in WI are so dull? really no offense but I just see something is missing.
