Flight

Denzel's last good serious movie. Playing an alcoholic pilot who somehow rescues his plane from a certain crash but it inadvertently ends up bringing his boozing habits out in open. You feel no sympathy for him throughout the movie and that was intentional. Just a very sad and hard movie to watch but the performances make up for it. Addictions are so hard to kick, you go through the course of movie with him, watching with great trepidation how he continues to self destruct, how his lies become his only enemy, while the whole world looks away and is willing to give him a second chance and the life of a bonafide hero, he knows deep inside that burden will be too much for him to carry. A mature movie.

Actually a very good movie.

I gave it a 7.7/10

Oblivion - Futuristic film starring tom cruise as a drone repairman on battle torn earth who starts to question his reality. Visually stunning and a great premise this had the potential to be a really great film It holds up well to scrutiny with a well written script however the poor direction and in particularly unbalanced pacing of the film left me unfufilled

5/10

Mud

A genuine masterpiece. The story from the perspective of a 14 year old boy who finds this strange guy living on a remote island in the middle of the Arkansas woodlands. He ends up developing a bond with him, helping him escape his predicament. A story of unrequited love, innocence, revenge and above all salvation. Mathew McConnaughey is a superb but the the kid playing the lead role steals the show. I won't be surprised if he ends up being the next Christian Bale. Heart wrenching at times but ultimately rewarding.

Girl, Interrupted

Very good. Winona Ryder, Angelina Jolie and Whoopi Goldberg - all put up fantastic acts. Jolie rightfully got an Oscar for this, she put up a very strong performance as a sociopath. In the end, though, I felt that Ryder didn't give the closure to her character as was expected.. But overall, I enjoyed this..

'Ghanchakkar' (2013)

A masterpiece! A fantastic film! The ending of course was the soul of the film and without it, it could have been a bit boring. Seriously need someone to confirm whether this has been plagiarised from Hollywood or not, because I can't quite digest the fact that Bollywood produced such a film on its own.

As is documented on the forum (www.pakpassion.net/ppforum/showthread.php?t=130876), I am not a fan of how the Indians use the Z and the J in a manner quite opposite to the Urdu language, but Vidya Balan`s pronunciation of the words like "jor", "roj", "cheejey`n" etc. somehow added some charm to the film. There was one hilariously brilliant scene where she beats up a couple of guys since they had beaten her husband:))).

A near-perfect film if not for two things: Vulgarity, swearing etc., and the length - I might sound a little harsh with the latter for a film that only lasted two hours and 15 minutes or so, but I am saying this keeping in mind how brief the overall concept was.

Waar - 7.5/10...Purely from a cinematic POV and keeping the context of peer industry in view.

Bro How did u watch it becuase it says u are in london and i cant seem to find a print of it on the net unless ur in pak

Ahh no mate, I was in Pakistan for Eid and watched it there. Good luck with your hunt, its definitely worth a watch.

Watched Gangster Squad.

Really enjoyed it. Very violent as expected but really interesting. Some excellent acting particularly from Sean Penn.

8/10.

i heard it might release in a month in the uk cause torrents is my last resort would love to support the industry

I don't see that many films, but I did see Mongol: The Rise of Genghis Khan recently. Tadanobu Asano as Temudjin was mesmerising, one of those performances that stays with you long after you've seen it. Can highly recommend it.

And from the sublime to the ridiculous, on Wednesday I will be watching Cloudy With A Chance Of Meatballs. Two. I haven't seen the first one, but I'm sure I'll pick up the plot

Watched Groundhog Day again today. Everything was the same as before, bit strange but whatever... 8/10

Heat 10/10.

Simply one of the best heist movies of all time. Not to mention De Niro and Pacino on the screen together for the first time.

Bubble

A low budget independent style Steven Sodenberg movie. Story of a small rural poor Ohio town, in which the main charactes work in a doll factory. A new girl joins the factory and starts flirting with this young kid who suffers from panic attacks and anxiety disorder. A motherly figure at that factory finds this affair to be unsettling but she still ends up helping that girl with transport, baby sitting etc., the girl is a shady character herself and is planning to leave the town as soon as she can get enough money. Then there is a murder.

So what is it about this seemingly very simple movie with no known actors in it. Doll factory ??? Have to watch it to understand.

One upon a time in America

10/10

Either you are going to love it or hate it.

Background score was just awesome.

Watched OO7's On Her Majesty's Secret Service probably the only time when Mr. Bond had a real love and got married but alas Miss Traci was killed minutes after the marriage really enjoyed the movie and rate it third best after Thunderball and Goldfinger 7/10

Captain Phillips was a quality film. Tense and excellently acted by all parties.

Easily the best Hanks performance in a long time.

It's by Paul Greengrass. Is there the typical shaky cam during the action sequences as Paul usually does in his movies? It got really annoying during The Bourne Ultimatum and Green Zone, two otherwise solid films.

The Green Mile

The lives of guards on Death Row are affected by one of their charges: a black man accused of child murder and rape, yet who has a mysterious gift.

A very well made movie. Touching human story with hint of supernatural in it. A person will fall in love with this movie.

The Roman Spring of Mrs. Stone it was released in 1960 overall an average movie basically is life of an actor who retires from acting and then her husband dies and leaves behind $$$ for her but she is alone and the saga starts

Thor dark world 7.5/10, the thor franchise has been way better than iron man

Gravity (2013)

Good visuals, 3D work and sound effects but kinda boring story. Anyway not bad for one time watch.

6.5/10

Watched Groundhog Day today, getting annoyed by how repetitive things seem. 3/10

Pretty apt rating.

Great visuals and cinematography, but i keep explaining to people that the story is boring, and everyone keeps fending me off by saying its Oscar material.

Would give it 6.5/10 myself.

Millers crossing

The film has its own pace and uniqueness, The best crime/gangster movie that I watched after Godfather and scarface. 8/10

Thor 2- throughly enjoyable....contains a mid-credit & post-credit scenes. 8/10

haha, just watched this the other night on netflix. Gabriel Byrne is good but Albert Finney was brilliant. Really good film.

Gonna rewatch Road to Perdition sometime soon if I can find a way to stop watching Groundhog Day over and over. You seen History of Violence? Give that a watch if you haven't, Viggo Mortensen is the man.

Haven't watched part 2 but it was a huge success. Reportedly got mixed reaction but I have faith in Wan. Even his lesser film like Dead silence was very good and underrated IMO.

Watched We're the Millers. It was a good comedy movie.

Was absolutely in stitches after this scene.

No, have not watched AHOV, but I have watched Road to Perdition.

You can also watch Truman Show which is quite similar to Groundhog day, if you have not already watched this movie a zillionth time too.

I resisted watching Dog Day Afternoon for a long time thinking that it was too old, but as I watched this movie I got surprised. Some times some movies really surprise you and Millers crossing was one of them. Did not expect it to be that good.

The Conjuring

Paranormal investigators Ed and Lorraine Warren work to help a family terrorized by a dark presence in their farmhouse.

A well made horror movie. The movie does not drag on at any stage and neither is it monotonous. The key was good script held together. The screen play did justice to the script.

It may be said though that it was not so scary as some other horror movies, but still very well made movie. A must watch for all the horror fans , and non horror fans would also enjoy this :)

7.5 / 10

Prisoners.

Pretty good. Arguably Gyllenhaal's best work.

Well I haven't watched dead silence but I am gonna check out insidious 2 soon hopefully..

I have not seen insidious so far. From your posts its seems you like horror / supernatural genre like me :)

I will write about conjuring next post , look down :)

I am not a movie fanatic but when I watch them horror is my preferred genre:)

In terms of tension, the descent and the orphanage are the best. I like the grudge and the others too. And of course the ring.

Just mainstreamy horror movies, nothing pointu like leatherface.

Conjuring is really over rated in terms of horror. It is more of a suspense movie.

can't understand why many say it is the best horror movie in years. I rate Dead Silence ahead of these three ones in terms of both horror and suspense.

Yeap gotta check this out I hear Jackman is amazing in it also.

Quite intense perfromances throughout. But I did kinda figure out who the eventual murderer will be quite early into the movie.

I didn't understand. Is this a typo or what is it supposed to mean?

The Reluctant Fundamentalist

A young Pakistani man is chasing corporate success on Wall Street. He finds himself embroiled in a conflict between his American Dream, a hostage crisis, and the enduring call of his family's homeland.

7.5/10

Watched Sinister again. Has great repeat value. You tend to discover things you didn't discover first. And the lawnmower scene. Maaaaan.......

I was totally on the edge of my seat. My girlfriend then revealed to me afterwards that she worked it all out 30 minutes in. So I felt rather stupid at that point.

Brilliant movie. Good Horror movies are not easy to make. Till the end the movie keeps the interest.

Its not that scary , should be called rather a " supernatural movie. "
