Darren Aronosky's Noah.

I wasn't sure what to expect out if this movie. Aronosky is famous for making big budget movies with an indie touch. Most of his movies are character studies but they also revolve around deep philosophical themes. Take Pi or Wrestler, lonely and desperate guys trying to find some meaning to their lives. Noah in that respect is no different. Noah is a deeply troubled man, who constantly has to justify the destruction of the world and his fellow humans by eulogizing the natural beauty of the world and the life cycle of the birds and the bees, which has been destroyed by the self serving wicked mankind. He could be credited as being the first and most vigorous "Save the Planet" type activist, who is willing to let all humanity die for nature preservation. I wondered during the movie about his mental status, is he a messiah or just a schizophrenic who is having delusions of grandeur. Reproduction is also a big theme of this movie. To ensure the circle of life, a pair needs to survive. Which made me think, so the pairs children then marry each other so are we all children born out of incest. Also, at times you wonder if God is really communicating with him or he is just good at predicting weather. If God made earth for humans, why would it want to kill all humans to make it clean again. Wouldn't that make the whole point of having a judgement day mute. In any case, the movie do present some interesting topics for conversation. Overall, a thought provoking movie.

what is it about ?

Elliot Brindle is a bright, meek salesman, drowning in debt - and desperate as he's about to marry the love of his life. Upon receiving a phone call informing him that he's on a hidden camera game show where he must execute 13 tasks to receive a sum total cash prize of $6.2M, Elliot dismissively follows through with his first two instructions: swat the fly that is currently bothering him, then eat the fly. With thousands of dollars suddenly appearing in his bank account, Elliot remains skeptical, though comforted by the knowledge that he can stop playing at anytime if only to lose every penny that he's won. Trapped into the horrors manipulated by unseen spectators, Elliot's need to complete the game escalates as the tasks grow more extreme, to a devastating point of no return.

Night train to Lisbon 6/10

A professor by accident picks up a novel and gets curious about the characters and want to know about them........

Anyone seen Noah or Sabotage? Sabotage is getting criticized for being too gory. An action film starring Arnie that is too gory! :)))

I say the gorier the merrier. Action needs to be nasty and brutal.

Noah on the other hand seems pretentious but with good effects. Dunno which one to watch.

Paranormal Activity : The Marked Ones
6.5/10

A decent spin-off/sequel with Latino flavour. The lead actor was good. Not as good as the first part but still watchable for some funny and scary scenes. Some cameos from earlier films' actors served no purpose really.

Interesting review as usual saadibaba. I have heard that it's a grittier version of Noah with Noah who is willing to let genocide happen to protect the earth. Religious nutjobs as usual are bashing it without seeing it. Mixed reviews for Noah. But Aronofsky never makes dull stuff. What is interesting is Luc Besson had made his own Joan of Arc movie which portrayed Joan as schizophrenic. So, Aronofsky might have been inspired to an extent from that.

Noah's tale is open to interpretation. Clearly he thinks he and his family is special. That itself makes him a snob. Than you add his willingness to let every human on earth die except his family and you have the makings of a psychopath. His nemesis Cain appears more human in character and desire for self preservation which is at the heart of our most basic instinct. So are we humans, mirror images of Cain, more human than Noah? Ultimately it comes down to the belief in the divine. Who is good and who is evil depends on ones own perception of the meaning of life. One mans schizophrenic is another's messiah. That ultimately even Noah begins to believe in salvation through self belief and becoming your own master gives credence to Cain's mantra "I'm a man made in your (Gods) image", it shows which way the directors heart was leaning towards. It's the contradictory nature and shades of grey in the title character that makes this movie more than just a "Lord of the Rings" style interpretation of a biblical tale.

The Perks of Being a WallFlower

8/10

Love story , will be a great movie for those who like high school and teenage type movies :)

Watched the new Captain America tonight, it's a bit rubbish innit?

I've just finished watching the timeless classic, Veer Zaara.

A spectacular film with a heart-warming story of romance and loyalty. Absolutely brilliant - it certainly made me shed a tear or two. Amazing emotional music too, with Preity Zinta being a beauty as well in this film. ;-)

Need to catch some sleep now though - birds tweeting outside is a telltale sign that I should really be asleep.

How do they have Wi-fi access ?

Has UK really that advanced ?

This reminds me of my work 'Two tweeting birds' which was about the Bollywood film 'Barfi!' (2012) - how suitable mentions are these in a thread about films after all?!

*Sorry for annoying.*

We Need To Talk About Kevin.

A fascinating, highly sensory and philosophically astute work, which explores the nature/nurture debate in an arresting and unapologetic manner, and asks what it is that makes a child killer. Tilda Swinton is superb as the tortured and flabbergasted accidental mother.

One of the best films I've seen in years.

Creedo

A modern supernatural horror film that explores the dark side of the human psyche, and the terror in

facing up to one's darkest fears. Set in London, England, the film begins with a group of theological

students who decide to test their faith by proving the existence of Hell. Following their ritualistic

summoning of a demon, the students are all found dead, apparently by suicide. Years later, a group of

five final-year students are evicted from their student digs and break into the now abandoned Catholic

halls of residence for the weekend, only to discover that they're not alone.

Pretty good one

7 / 10

Watched the Great Gatsby.

I must admit I wasn't expecting much from this film but it surprised me, it was decent.

Di Caprio's a fine actor of course and made the film what it is.

7/10

watched worricker trilogy.

not hare's best work but would give it 6.5 out of 10.

Bill Nighy was brilliant as usual

The Exorcism of Emily Rose
7/10

An interesting film that makes you question whether Emily Rose(real name-Annelise Michel) was possessed or schizophrenic. I would think she was schizophrenic but at the same time, it was a case of medical plus religious methods interfering with each other and cancelling each other out. Jennifer Carpenter AKA Deb acted the pants out of Emily. Laura Linney, Tom Wilkinson and Campbell Scott were very good too. Made by the director of Sinister. It is another intriguing film with a stunning exorcism scene.

Ragini MMS 2. Sunny Leone is a babe. The movie is decent entertainer. Much better than the likes of Jai Ho and stuff. I am sure the paying public gets a decent value for money with the thrills and Sunny Leone's curves

:13: have downloaded it a week ago need to watch it

Out of the Furnace. - 8/10

C. Bale and C. Affleck. Amazing performances by the both of them. Some unforgettable scenes in this. Really enjoyed the whole set up, vibe, and esp the background score to this. Also, Zoe Saldana = heart.

Mandela - Long walk to freedom - 7/10

Idris is amazing in this, and there are some memorable scenes, but seemed a bit disjointed at times, and probably gave less important things time over some more important issues. Still a good effort.

Paranormal 5. Probably the best of the paranormal franchise since the first one
