I haven´t been updating this thread much since I now have started to compose reviews for the IMDb website, but couldn´t resist from this one.

'Dhrishyam' (2015)

This film is all about self-confidence, trust in one's ability and about sticking to your decision come what may. I have gone through something somewhat similar to this in my life a few years ago, although I wasn't the one accused and neither was I on the wrong side - even more similarly to this film, perhaps no one was entirely on the wrong side - and add one more similarity, the only person on the wrong side had not intended for things to escalate to this much as that person was on the play trying to achieve some other goal. It's amazingly mind-blowing seeing the similarities! A bit sad that I can't elaborate much on the story to explain how similar things were, from character to character! Given that it was quite a horrible episode of a lot of people´s life, I have sort of buried that in my heart, but this film makes me remember it again and again since yesterday. Not even my closest friends know about that horror.

*The part referred to is the above one. Now, the below has already been posted on PP before, but I thought I should highlight this as well given that it is another great similarity.*

Not to imply that I am as smart as the hero was, but I have one stunningly striking similarity from my very life with this film. To come to the point, all my English is based on what I had started from news channel and the commentary of cricket matches, then to the Internet and hence the articles etc. read online. Add to this learning very good, pure Hindi from online dictionaries and Urdu from reading the news-slide on Pakistani news channels. Add to this I am a complete film freak! Alone in July I have watched 23 films! So quite a few similarities there.

Discaimer: everything written below in praise of the film should also apply to the original South Indian (from 2013) that this one is a copy of, or perhaps even more for having come up with such a masterpiece.

Yes, it's a masterpiece and mind-blowing concept and it goes down as one of the most entertaining films that I have ever watched. Not only does it keep you on your toes throughout but it makes you chew your nails in between. A thriller of the highest quality! This could be India's answer to 'Gone Girl' (2014), or even better I would say.

One important point was to make the public side with the hero and his family and to sort of create an understanding for everything that he had done. This of course wouldn't have been possible if they had shown it as just some deliberate murder, or had shown a completely innocent guy being murdered. So that was quite smart.

Drishyam malayalam is the top hit movie in that year.. Thogh would like to watch its tamil version (papanasam) and hindi version..

The other Boleyn Girl 9/10
Top stuff drama romance thriller betrayal everything ina movie which moved at a good pace

Sleepers 7/10
A bit too long Brad Pitt was a chikna :P

One of Norton's best performances, probably his best since American History X and Fight Club.

Rosario Dawson. Words fail.

Yep, she was brilliant. Philip Hoffman was also exceptional.....Along with Norton they were a joy to watch. The acting alone was enough to mesmerize me, what to talk of the theme....

Right from the word go, from the first scene where Norton says something about the dog, "this son of a ***** wants to live............"

I am forgetting Anna Paquin, whose performance brought me quite a few laughs ;-)

Anyone watched Triangle yet?

Been pushing that movie onto you guys for couple of months now :))

Into the wild
8/10

Great movie about how a young guy tries to escape from the regulations of the society and travels across lengths and breadths of the country to find happiness. Its based on a true story i guess.
But sometimes you might need patience to continue watching as the movie becomes slow at times.

I've watched the Amazing Spiderman 1/2 recently.

Was pretty good, though I prefer the original Spiderman actor more.

Rewatched American Gangster. Going to have a Jake Glyenhall rewatching marathon tonight. Rendition, Zodiac and Prisoners. Gonna be Suweeet. Will end with Prince of Persia for comic relief.

I'm guessing this movie is weired?

Not just weird but very very good film too

5 days of war

Not sure if i mentioned it before. I watched it a couple of days ago.

Russia attacks georgia and spreads false word using its media power that its just Retaliatory action in response to offensive by Georgia. An american journalist and his cameraman capture some of unprovoked violence by mercenaries hired by russia and they try to get it out so that world actually knows the truth and gets serious about the issue and help Georgia.

Good movie. I 'll give it 7/10

triangle that a great film, great ending

FinAlly watched avengers age of ultron months later after buying tickets but not finding a babysitter

Same plot as the first one with the all mighty avengers only been stopped by their own in fighting and bickering due to 'mind tricks'
Captain America becomes captain in this one after spending the first film being the water boy
Thor takes more of a leading role too after finally picking up his hammer out of stone in the manner of Excalibur
The hulk becomes a moody side show who brings down some towers and is punched into sense by the iron man
Iron man is a film within a film as he finally find a cure for cancer

Overall dissapointment tbf

watched charlie farm- some aussie film, poor film, thought it would be better, but just a typical film, 4/10

teenage mutant ninja turtle- crap 1/10

human centipede 2- again once you've seen the first its the same old- like saw tbh, some parts the fat git creeped you out, 4.5/10

senna - this was brilliant, never could find this, ive always been anti senna- but this turned me around and made me anti prost, 9/10

poltergeist- this scared me when i was a kid when i watched the original, this new one was poor- never should have been made, 4/10

spy- decent film, first 30 mins boring then she starts to become herself and her jokes are funny, 6.5/10

the babadook- decent film, the kid acting great really weird when he wants then turns into a kid, but the story could have been better imo, lot of friends told me to watched it, felt bit dissapointing

the expendables 3 - watched first one- lol typical american film, never watched no.2 should have never watched this, one funny bit in this comes from wesley snipes and his tax joke, 2/10

Spy (2015) - Was pretty lame to be honest. Barely laughed for a scene or two and nothing more. Cannot believe how this movie is so highly rated. - I'd go with 4/10.

MI5 - Rogue Nation (2015) - Enjoyable, and a few good action stunts, but doesn't keep your heart racing like Ghost Protocol did. Nevertheless, another great one for Tom Cruise. (7.5/10)

Mr. Brooks (2007) - Had an interesting plot, something similar to Nightcrawler i'd assume?. Kevin Costner is brilliant. Ending could have been better. (7/10)

Watched Downfall again

I have to say this is probably the best on screen performance from Bruno Ganz ever. Top movie.

Mr Brooks and Nightcrawler only had the cold method to madness in common. In Mr Brooks Costners characters admitted that he was a psychopath and tried everything in his power to rectify it, try to stop or atleast do something to appease his conciousness. Gllyenhalls character was more of a psycopath with no regards for others as long as he got what he wanted.

This is literally the most random collection of films watched and reviewed that I've seen on this thread.

Add Enemy to that list. Let me know what you think.

Haha not liked I watched these in a row or day by day, since ramzaan ended those I've watched.
I don't like telling too much detail about films like 2 ppl above on southpaw - ruins the film for some.
Got alot of horror films to watch, might watch insidious 3- second one was really bad imo

I think all three Insidious movies are very good. Try The Conjuring.

Fantastic 4.....NO NO NO!

They've ruined yet another F4 franchise. Awful film and poorly chosen actors.

Terminator Genisys.....Nothing special. You know they've run out of ideas when their first protocol for the current premise is.....let's change the past/present/future and make crap up as we go along.

Insidious 1 was a awful attempt at a horror film. The ending was more laughably bad than it was scary. Then they decide to do a sequel and now a 3rd release too

Conjuring IS better and actually a decent storyline too.

Once again I say watch Predestination/Triangle though :))

Add Enemy to that list. Let me know what you think.

Oh I've watched it. I just didn't want to load up on the wierdness and uncomfortableness after Prisoners as it was a block party marathon and we had some anfängers with us also.

I love my psychological thrillers favourite genre, but am not so sure if I've seen that one. I may have seen bits and pieces of it when it came on free tv. I saw a poster of peeps on a yatch, does the movie revolve around in-fighting amongst a group of friends which turns bloody on the boat?

Not quiet. It involves a boat trip that turns bad and in-turn they find a desolated (?) ship with no-one inside, well so they think.

If you think of the myth of Sisyphus, you'd be on the right track.

It's a excellent mind-manipulating film and has a very good twist too. Highly recommended.

Sounds familiar but going watch it, thanks for the suggestion. Hard to find psychophysical thrillers to see having watched the popular stuff in the genre like Rear Window and Memento (best in the genre imo).

The trailer and the full movie are above or the previous page. Check it out.

In that case watch Predestination too. I apologise for the free publicity of the film but I feel you'll really enjoy the mind-trip you may get at the end :))

Cheers mate, will be checking them out! I love movies that really mess with my mind and get me thinking for days :)) Any new ones to be released in the genre? I really want to watch Gone Girl but am reading the book first

Finally watched Forrest gump.
One word for Tom Hanks, brilliant. What an actor!!!!

8.5/10

Gone Girl is good but not necessarily a movie of that genre. One Ben Affleck production I highly recommend is Gone Baby Gone. It stars his brother Casey is a very good and thought-provoking film.

Gone Baby Gone, Predestination and another movie called Unknown (Jim Caviezel) not the Liam Neeson garbage.

Am I the only one disappointed in Mad Max?

I thought it was more about Imperator Furiosa than it was about Max. It felt garbled and and up it's own bottom.

Not really something I was expecting and a huge let down.

Watched 2 Pakistani movies Bin Roye and Wrong no. in cinema. Being not much of a cinemagoer, it was an experience itself. Felt happy and proud as both movies were different and refreshing. Picturisation in Bin Roye and the comedy of Wrong No. stood out. Now waiting for more Pakistani movies to watch in theatre like another much awaited movie Moor and Olympian boxer's biopic Shah releasing on 14th Aug. Independence day.

Massive let down for me but I still for the life of me cannot figure out what everyone liked about it.

Moor looks promising.

I loved his acting in deewangi and rajneeti

He is a very good actor but i feel he is under rated. In serious roles he kills it. Not bad in comedy as well. Like you mentioned he was absolutely great in deewangi, rajneeti, hum dil de chuke sanam etc

The guy simply nailed it in deewangi. Also i feel his co actor in that film is very under rated, Akshaye Khanna, Brilliant in Humraaz and Deewangi. Fantastic in comic roles as well like Hungama.

Its a good movie , worth watching . Go for it.

He is good , but lacks star power . He needs support from others to get the audience in.

It wasnt always the case. In 90s and early 2000s he used to pull in audience on his own. Right now if you talk about purely acting skills , he is very good.

He was never a solo hero . Look at his movies , all supported by other actors.

I am not doubting his acting skills.

Moor looks promising.

Moor is made by one of the most creative genius in the Pak ad film industry, Jamshed Mahmood aka Jami. This movie has been a labour of love given the logistics and other issues it took at least 4 years to complete and release this film. It also stars a Pakistani-American as lead, Shaz Khan, and his father is played by veteran Tv actor from Quetta Hameed Sheikh, check out its trailer here:

One thing more the film stars best female artist in Pakistan, tragedy queen Samia Mumtaz. And the music is by pop band Strings with lyrics by legend Anwar Maqsood.

I am no big fan of his but lets be reasonable here. He has solo hits in 90s like i mentioned already. Phool aur kaante, dilwale, diljale, najayaz, jigar etc. are few examples. Its only recently with the emergence of the young bunch of heroes and the Khans that his star power has declined.

I watched Nightcrawler brilliant film yesterday, the films about a guy who videos any incidents of crimes- sells the videos to news channel. Thrs a Asian in it plays jakes sidekick - absolutely sad what happens to him. Pure crafty capitalism this film.

But its great film, 8.5/10

I watched Triangle last night! really enjoyed the concept
but felt the movie could have elaborated a bit on the source of the loop, perhaps they wanted that to be open to interpretation depending on how the viewer perceived the ending. One of the theories may have been the promise to the taxi driver which was broken being the reason for the loop, but that's taking it a bit too far isn't it? :))

Also, the liner was named after Aeolus who happens to be the father to Sisyphus; the guy who breaks a promise made to death and is punished by being made to roll a boulder up a hill only to watch it roll back, this action is repeated similar to the premise of the movie which revolved around the time loop.

They should definitely release a part 2 and maybe go into more detail as far as the causality loop is concerned.

I think it is more to do with the Sisyphus storyline. Quite an interesting movie. Don't think a sequel would work too well though.

Basically yeah.

To me the ending [the car accident] was the starting point of the loop.

If you remember when she first meets her "friends" at the dock by the boat she doesn't have her child with her. When she does break the loop she goes home to realise the "real" her was abusing her kid.

The next part is the accident and how her kid dies but she gets out, only to break her promise to the Taxi driver(death?)....hence why the loop/Sisyphus.
