The problem with films such as City of God is that they tend to get overblown by film buffs so much so that one always feels a wee bit underwhelmed in the end.
Don't get me wrong, it was a fantastic piece of cinema with wonderful acting from pretty much all the leads(and a fantastic ending btw) but sometimes the constant praise from IMDb users(hailing it as one of the best ever) could prove to be counterproductive in the end as I found out after watching it.

Same with bollywood. Remember a user posting a thread on here calling Andhadhun as India's version of Inception. Yeah right lol. I mean it's a decently made film, excellent for a casual timepass viewing coupled with some good acting from Tabu but labelling it as a cinematic masterpiece just because the director decided to play around with story a bit is precisely I don't trust user's reviews much these days.

And DeadBall stop being melodramatic. I know you are a secret bolly lover yourself and by Bombay Cinema standards it was definitely an entertaining one. Loopholes were aplenty I agree but then again people are often advised to leave their brains aside before starting a Hindi film something you should have known already.

Dude I am not being melodramatic, as I mentioned many times, movies are subjective and this one did not resonate with me (apart from the first third which I thought was brilliant). I am a lover of all good films and Bollywood is no exception, I have posted quite a few lists here of my favourite movies from Bollywood, Tollywood etc some of which could feature in my top 20 movies of whichever movie industry.

As for the leaving ones brain aside, suspension of belief is exactly what movies are and I wasn't expecting a documentary. But that doesn't mean I cannot criticize the aspects of it I didn't like. Also I probably went in with very high expectations.

Can it be watched with family/kids?

Yes. Depends upon the family and kids though. Rated PG 13.

It is about a girl going missing, presumed kidnapped and dead though. The movie is shown through social media, like facetime, video calls, webcams etc. The story is really gripping with many twists and turns and a very good twist at the ending to boot.

Aquaman, he's my favorite superhero in DC and the film was great.

My favortie DC Superhero would have to Batman! I mean after you watch the Dark Knight series - the greatest movies series of all time - it's hard like any other superhero more. But from DC I also the love The Flash watch that show on a regular basis it has been great.

Just watched the first two Halloween Movies and gotta agree with shaz619 they were just brilliant, look forward to watching the other ones soon! Amazing watch and they are also a good length only an hour and a half.

Glass

7/10

I loved Split and Unbreakable. Glass is a slight step down. It takes too much time to get going and gets a bit repetitive at times. James McAvoy is fantastic. Samuel L. Jackson is very restrained until the end and Bruce Willis is suitably low-key. I liked the realistic and messy fight sequences (As opposed to the big disaster action scenes in Marvel/DC Superhero movies) but the final twist is not as impressive as the film thinks it is.

An interesting experiment but not a complete success.

Glass, and DBS Broly, think this year will be very enjoyable for movies. Latter was fantastic and the best in the franchise, Glass I have already talked about in Split thread so don't make me repeat myself :moyo

Man Broly was a chick magnet :))

I loved the direction they took the character. I was kind of iffy before watching it since he is an iconic villain who destroys just to destroy, but the retcon was refreshing.

Glad DB has made a comeback after relative mediocrity since 2015.

Unsane

Shot entirely on iPhone. Nice little horror/mystery/thriller.

7/10

Rewatched Prestige - Even better the second time.

Watched Enemy - Spent more time reading and trying to understand it than the actual movie. Totally messes with your brain.

Breakdown (1997) - decent passive entertainment. Kurt Russell plays the lead role and puts in a terrific performance.

8/10.

That series was pretty good, but it was hardly the real Batman.

The Flash has gone to the dumps after the initial 2 seasons.

I used to watch Arrow, Flash and Legends, but they became so bad that I stopped. I recently started watching Arrow again and it's somewhat bearable.

If you want to watch a good DC property I recommend Titans.

If you want to watch other good superhero shows I recommend Daredevil and Jessica Jones. Punisher is pretty good too.

Thanks for the suggestions and yeah the first season of both The Flash and The Arrow were amazing. The rest haven't been that good. I feel like they should of done more with The Reverse Flash and Harrison Wells instead of killing him off in the same season. They should of played it out more it was a very interesting plot.

How old are you?

I meant to say trilogy for me when it comes to trilogies I rank them as follow

1. The Dark Knight Trilogy
2. Lord of The Rings Trilogy (Loved these as a kid haven't seen it in a long time but remember loving it)
3. Star Wars Original Trilogy
4. Back to The Future Trilogy
5. The Bourne Trilogy (HUGE Jason Bourne fan and the first three movie were AMAZING)

And I assume you are talking about the Godfather trilogy? Yeah I haven't seen that.

Just watched Drag me to Hell and I certainly laughed more during the movie than get scared. Not nearly as scary as some of the other movies I've seen.

Overall - 7/10

What a movie The Prestige was! To think it probably isn't even in his top 3 movies list! I've watched all of Nolan's films apart from Dunkirk over numerous times, and they are truly something else.

Looking forward to Avengers Endgame this year! Thought Conjuring 3 was suppose to come out this year but they moved it to next year. Really disappointed that James Wan isn't directing the next one. Loved both movies! Also looking forward to John Wick Chapter 3, and It Chapter 2, and so many other!

Toy Story 3 again...

Will never get tired of that film

Genuinely a very good.movie, I really wish they had stopped at 3 ,would had been the best animated triology ever but now they are going to milk it and ruin it like Star Wars, Dizney just doesn't know when to stop.

TDK is full of gaping plot holes- far from a perfect trilogy. Though Batman Begins is the best Batman movie ever.

I don't know about if it is the best ever as Tim Burton's first 2 were fantastic in their own right but lost in time to an extent, but I find myself re-watching Batman Begins out of all the releases.

Am not hyped for that but will still see it as it's the finale, I've been off Marvel Movies for a while now although Spider-Man-Into the Spider Verse was incredible but it wasn't a part of any MCU phase. Can't wait for John Wick 3!!! have you seen the poster for it as well, love it

Its not a scary movie at all. I was surprised when I saw it , also the ending was a bit weird.

Yeah I need to watch the second one again its been like 2 years since I've seen it need to go freshen up the memory before I watch the third one! Should be fascinating!

Avengers Infinity War.

Although there is too much going on in this movie it does enough to make it work. Having so many characters in one movie and still making a movie that has good pacing and flow is really impressive. The directors of this movie must be very good at what they do. They have made a very entertaining movie.

7.5/10

Are you saying Bale's incarnation of Bats wasn't the real Batman? How come?

It took place in a 'realistic' setting, without any other superheroes and such.

Bales batman was also pretty weak when compared with other incarnations e.g Affleck.

Can you imagine Bale's Batman fighting parademons or against Superman? Plus, we didn't see much of Batman's detective side.

The series itself was pretty good, and Bale played the character itself very well.

Well there are many incarnations of Batman. Afleck was awesome in BvS. Not so good in JL.

Serenity.

Not sure what to make of it as I slept through most of it!

It doesn't need to have other superheros, not every movie has to be in the likeness of an avengers or justice league or be promoted for being in a DC Universe, that's all marketing. Nolan's series was heavily influenced by graphic novels such as the long halloween and year one; in fact this incarnation was one of the greatest depictions of the batman universe in general and many aspects of the character when it came to being gritty, there are dozens of stories in the source material and all live action releases have not played up the detective side as distributors have been hesitant in diving towards a completely different genre and being concerned with the financial aspect but they could be taking that plunge with the Batman solo.

Affleck's incarnation is a completely different Batman, wouldn't say he is the blue print for what the persona should be; his character was based off the Batman in the Dark Knight Returns novel, a Batman with a great deal of wear/tear and on the edge, and much older to who constantly questions his own motives and rules. It was a great representation no doubt but you can't say one is better then the other when the two were portraying a different character, it's like saying Jack Nicholson Joker was better then Heath Ledger or vice versa when the two were not depicting the same Joker.

I didn't say that I want it to be like other superheroes though.

I didn't say it was better than Afflecks portrayal or worse than it. I was just saying Bale's batman was nerfed for being part of a more realistic setting.

The Batman of the comics has ALWAYS been a part of a bigger universe (aside from Elseworlds stories).

I really liked the TDK trilogy and it's my favorite superhero series.

Well there are many incarnations of Batman. Afleck was awesome in BvS. Not so good in JL.

Justice League was a joke of a movie anyways.

Afflecks portrayal in BvS was brilliant given that he was portraying a Batman similar to the one from the The Dark Knight Returns, like Shaz said.

But it wasn't the ideal of what Batman should be like in the movies, IMO.

Going in style (2017): movies about 3 old man going to rob a bank.. an entertaining one...

This has been said a few times but I don't personally like this label of a 'realistic' setting, that seems to imply that the movies were some stand alone 100% original stories which took little inspiration from many arcs in the source material which is not true at all. The first two did well in combining a long halloween and year one to build the best batman comic book universe ever. If anything, the recent DCU adaptations should be criticized for straying from that bigger universe you speak off, their only good job is the individual character of Affleck but he can only do so much in joke setting.

That's the issue with that movie, because we're familiar with it then everything becomes more bearable and the performance of Affleck is appreciated even more. However, if you're a neutral it would be a painful watch given how poor the script was and they didn't do the Batman universe much justice either. Apparently he wont be returning to the role after his contractual obligations with Suicide Squad 2 are over.

The Martian - 9/10 - Great movie really enjoyed it!

Oceans Eleven - 9.5/10 - Loved this movie never actually watched it until today and boy was it a fantastic movie!

I'm going to watch Oceans Twelve now, apparently the Indian movie Happy New Year is a rip off of this one. It's always hilarious too see Bollywood ripping off Hollywood movies. Usually it's the other way around I see the Hollywood movie and then watch the Bollywood rip off and its quite hilarious.

The Night Comes For Us - 9/10, incredible action/thriller; if you love movies in the same vein as Raid this is a must watch, it was probably one of the most creative movies I have ever seen in this genre. The violence and combat sequences were very unique, the director does an amazing job keeping you engaged and the plot it very good to. Up there with my favorite movies from 2018.

If you have Netflix check it out:asif

Incredible indeed. A hidden Netflix gem. The Raid on steroids.

Happy new year is crap but not a complete rip off. Just the basic idea is similar heist revenge other then that nothing similar at all ,But again that can be said for almost every heist movie . It is actually a "dance hiest" movie because whole heist involves around dance competition during "happy new year" time in dubai.

Yeah just watched Oceans Twelve, and I feel like Happy New Year is like a rip off of both Oceans Eleven and Twelve. Not as bad as some of the other Bollywood rip offs though.

Did you watch Unbreakable and Split before Glass? These were a part of this trilogy which was not planned initially

I did. Watched both films in the cinema.
McAvoy’s acting was brilliant in Split and was the only saving grace in Glass...
Unbreakable was a novel take on the superhero film and that film played on the comic book theme..

But I just didn’t see the point of this film.
Yes the same kid who played John’s (Bruce Willis’s) son in Unbreakable played his son in this film. I nice touch.
But M went overboard playing on this fact... we didn’t need to see 30 flashbacks to prove this point.

Look i’m happy to see this film again if someone can point to me what I missed in this film..

Oh right, I thought you would have given it a 0 because you didn't see the last two and unfamiliar with the characters etc I do think the movie didn't live up to the hype but wouldn't give it a 0 personally.

I would probably have given it a 4 or 5 had I seen it on Sunday night or during the week....
Complete waste of a Saturday evening

Manmarziyan 5/10 ,good first half terrible second.half, weakest Anurag movie ever, great songs although.

Mission Impossible fallout 5/10 ,kept waiting for.something to happen , absolutely dull affair waste of watching movies last weekend.

Upgrade

This is how you do a low-budget action sci-fi. Similar to the recent Venom but of course better..Logan Marshall even looks like Tom Hardy. Highly recommended.

Thanks for recommending this. bit disappointed Iko Uwais didn't utilised much in this movie... his fights in Mile 22 was excellent..

The finale was truly epic especially the high calibre level of combat, rarely do you see folk feint with their attacks; loved the fighting IQ established by the choreographers. Great narrative to, I'd love to see a part 2 and the ending was a little open ended

One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest (1975)

I'm often wary of films heralded as classics or must watch - often the reality fails to match the hype. Yet this film delivered, and then some. It will live long in my memory. Why ? Firstly, the characters are so endearing. They present with their own particular foibles and eccentricities, and drive each other crazy as we see in several priceless interactions during "group therapy" sessions.

Much of the plaudits rightly go to Jack Nicholson but we shouldn't overlook the brilliant William Redfield playing the most intelligent patient in the ward in Dale Harding, or the quiet dignity of Will Sampson's Chief, and Brad Dourif who plays the stuttering and timid Billy. And of course, Louise Fletcher as the tyrannical Nurse Rached. It is a fantastic collective performance.

Secondly, the dialogue. Not only highly quotable but for a film that veers off into such a dark direction, it provides many genuinely funny moments. I don't know how they manage to keep a straight face at times. Thirdly, the directing and cinematography. This film doesn't feel like it's set in 1975. It ages very well. The camerawork is excellent especially with the lingering shots of Rached and McMurphy staring each other down in this battle of wills. The music is beautiful.

There's one standout scene for me that moved me unlike anything else in cinema. When McMurphy campaigns to let the ward watch the World Series on television, but fails to win the vote that Rached calls, we see something even better. McMurphy commentates on an imaginary game. The other patients stick their heards around the door and eventually the boys, drugged and subdued into miserable existences, rejoice in this extraordinarily powerful moment showing there's no authority that can limit the power and creativity of the human mind.

It's in my top 3 of all time and has tremendous replay value even despite a bittersweet ending.

He's officially out as Batman.

Matt Reeves will now cast a younger Batman for his prequel trilogy. A move that Snyder should have made from the start.

Have faith in Matt, he has a great CV. It will also be the first Batman movie that heavily focuses on the detective side which will be very interesting.

Basically Snyder was going for the Batman from TDKR novel which was an older batman who was one edge and Ben Affleck was perfect in that regard and did the role justice but you're right for this solo project a younger casting would have been ideal, wonder who will be in the running

Yes, I didn't read the book maybe that's why loved the movie it was directed by Kubrick ,and the movie is used as a reference across mainstream media coz it was that well made.

Better late than never. This movie has no parallel , no equal. It is famous across critics , viewers and even in academia.

One of the best movies ever, period. I rate Nicholson a level above the likes of De Niro, Hoffman, Pacino, Hopkins and one rung below Day Lewis, Oldman and Joaquin Phoenix.

I first watched this when my A-Level Psychology teacher showed it to us during a Friday afternoon :)) I believe we were looking into neurosurgical treatments and lobotomy in particular. It is one of my all time favourite movies ever, simply outstanding and Jack Nicholson is truly special in his element, arguably his greatest performance for me. Need to watch this gem again, the World Series scene has to be in the top 3 greatest ever in cinema

First man 8/10, tremendous film with great soundtrack, can't believe Americans gave into the flag controversy when there was a flag, seriously something is wrong with Americans hoping the "Triggered" culture ends soon.

Damien Chazzelle as usual is great and glad he is back into his zone after the not so great La La land.

Caught Lethal Weapon on the weekend.

The two main characters are very likeably and genuinely funny. The ending dragged on a bit with an unnecessary karate scene.

Lacks the social commentary of Robocop or a memorable villain as in Die Hard.

6/10.

Spanking the monkey

Interesting watch. Jeremy davies was so good in it. some moments can be difficult to watch due to taboo subject. Overall it had quite emotional indie feel to it & the Ending was shoking.

Overlord

Neat, gripping, likable characters, thoroughly entertaining. One of the best in the war-horror sub-genre in recent times.

7/10

Bad Times At El Royale

Decent movie in the mould of Identity & Hateful 8. Left me wondering, what was the point of this movie?
