Loved it. Though I think Fantastic Mr Fox is slightly better.

Yes but that came earlier and was a breakthrough, but still loved the Japanese elements in this one. Somehow I always watch his movies and never know he has directed it till the end.

Have been looking forward to this need to check it out soon

With all the news, the best thing is to watch animation movies

Ralph breaks the internet 7/10, loved the references but falls slightly below first for me coz less games but the internet packet and ip showcases were witty and keeps us glued, excellent for a sequel esp if you liked the first one.

The Killing of a Sacred Deer

The pacing of this film was atrocious, this did not merit a 2 hour running time. Martin's motivations were obvious the moment he revealed his father died, and from then the film lumbers towards it's heavy handed conclusion about revenge and karmic justice.

Barry Keoghan puts in a chilling performance, but does not compensate for the film's gratuitous sexuality and scarcely believable plot.

3/10.

Watched a heap of good movies this long weekend let me try to remember them all.

Non-Stop - 8.75/10 - Wow this movie was good! Don't you just love Liam Neeson. The movie had me guessing who/how the person was messaging Liam. It was driving me insane, the twist at the end was amazing.

Taken - 8.5/10 - Honestly don't know why I haven't watched this movie, I've heard mixed reviews about it but honestly watching it I loved the movie. It was so very satisfying in the end.

Taken 2 - 6/10 - Meh not nearly as good as the first. That's bout all I can say about this movie.

Unknown - 7.5/10 - Another excellent Liam Neeson movie. However, I do have to say there was a lot of throwbacks to The Bourne Series. It's a movie that you would expect Bollywood to make if they were going to copy The Bourne Series, I guess minus the plot twists in this movie. Not taking away from Neeson's performance and the movie in general it was still very entertaining and had me confused.

Flightplan - 7/10 - Okay so all these airplane realted movies were popping up in my suggestions so I decided to watch this one too. Not as good as some of the others but still enjoyed it.

Final Destination - 8/10 - Not scary at all. Dunno why it says horror movie. It's a slasher movie and a damn good one. From the beginning the movie has you locked in, and I did not think the plane was going to explode like it did. From there on that theory of death and how the kids who left the plane cheated death is exhilarating a must watch for slasher fans.

Air Force One - 8/10 - Great Harrison Wells movie. Enjoyed the fightback from President Wells, overall just a fun movie and at times unsettling movie to watch.

Sully: Miracle on the Hudson - 9/10 - Okay from seeing news reports and interviews and stuff on this to actually seeing what happened from Captain Sully's view is amazing. The fact that insurance officials were trying to blame Sully for landing the plane on water and losing the plane is just disgusting. I mean you've got to be kidding me they were more concerned about the loss in damage of the plane then Sully saving 155 lives. However this is a great movie and if anyone hasn't seen the movie and remembers this taking place live should certainly watch Sully.

United 93 - 9/10 - This movie almost made me cry. I don't think there has been a better movie on the events of 9/11 then this movie. It's just sad, the director does a great job of making you feel like you are on that plane with all those innocent people who just set out on a normal days trip. The people who committed the atrocities of 9/11 just disgust me and then these people have the audacity to call themselves muslims is just sick. I just ahh those people and all other terrorists group make me soo mad. In regards to the movie it was very well done like I said and it's a must watch

The Walk - 9.5/10 - Ahh I needed something playful and joyous to watch after the sad tragic story of United 93. This movie was great and I can not believe that Petit actually did this in real life in the 70's. Truly amazing story and makes you realize that if you put your mind to it you can do anything. The ending also hit me hard when Petit says that he was given a free pass to attend the Towers whenever he wanted, but they had a expiry date. However he says that for his pass the person who gave him the card crossed out the date, "and he wrote on it........... forever" and the movies ends with a shot of the twin towers. Damn that hit hard. :((

I'm unable to finish movies these days. Start something, watch for a few minutes and then abandon it.

It's such a weird state of mind.

Idk why, but I can never do that. Even if it's a downright horrible movie, I have to see it till the end.

Maybe internally I feel like the characters will be stuck in "pause" forever until I finish the movie.

Cold Pursuit was awesome btw. Neeson's still got it, I don't care what the PC haters had to say about him. Top notch film.

Worst bit is, I kinda like Star Wars but I've no interest in watching the last episode and didn't even go see the Solo one.

It's like all of a sudden movies have no interest to me ...

It happens to many who used to watch a lot during their earlier years, probably movies are not your priority anymore.
You can always watch TV series which keep the attention nowadays..

I think you should see Mughal-e-azam or gone with the wind ,finish em in one sitting.

Come to think of it, the last series I probably watched without any issue was Babylon 5. After that, it's been a struggle watching even TV series.

Netflix for me right now is literally things that I've started watching but then left in between, a few episodes here and there.

Have you discovered someone special? I get into such state of mind but hardly for a month.. on the plus its great to be no into passive entertainment, books i would say are better if you are into them

I have but I wouldn't put this lack of interest completely due to the existence of someone special.

The Guilty: Danish movie, only location is police control room, plot is about officer answering call from a kidnapped women... highly recommended

Volver: Spanish movie, very good one..

Watched a movie on netflix last night called "Strangers Prey at Night" (2018)

Now that was one scary movie!

Cold Pursuit was awesome btw. Neeson's still got it, I don't care what the PC haters had to say about him. Top notch film.

It’s a remake of In Order Of Disappearance (Norway). Not watched the Neeson remake yet.

Alita: Battle Angel - 8/10

Really enjoy this, different take on a cyberpunk genre and Rodriguez/Cameron did a decent job. Loved the narrative and visual cinematography; they found a decent balance between being gritty at times and colourful. Am not familiar with the manga series which inspired the movie but most going by the reception amongst fans seem to be happy with the effort and there is potential for further story lines if there a future sequels.

Was also very impressed by the quality of martial arts and striking in this movie, the fight scenes were very very good and unexpected.

This is the movie's title song by Dua Lipa, she had a great 2018:

Watched it this week - it was terrific fun. The ending is heartbreaking but the film juxtaposes well those characters who sacrifice themselves for others versus those who believe in every man for themselves in.

You could also tell the actors (especially the extras playing zombies) were having fun with it, manically waving their arms about and enjoying their human meal.

The Matrix

Didn't live up to its reputation. The pseudo-philosophy was an excuse for violence. If it was purely an action flick then on its merits it delivers, which is probably why it had a large teenage male audience.

However the acting is so wooden, with Keanu Reeves billed as the Chosen One despite being bland in every way. The great actors like Jack Nicholson can tell a story by shooting a look, whereas Reeves is devoid of personality and charisma. His facial expressions and stilted tone of voice never changes.

The dialogue is insufferable as nobody except Cypher speaks like a human being. Every scene is full of riddles and cliches.

The film was innovative for bullet time and its special effects which did inspire other films in the genre. Reeves deserves props for taking the time to learn martial arts moves.

However strip away the violence and what does the film have other than pseudo-philosophical statements ? If you want character and story depth - the film was underwhelming so 5/10.

Dark City was released a year earlier and inspired The Matrix. It executes the concept of a false reality much better and The Strangers are far more intimidating than the Matrix agents.

It's very atmospheric, Roger Ebert described it as a triumph of cinematography. The film is better acted and has stronger dialogue.

My only gripes are the ideas behind the film are too broad to convey to an audience in one film. The director spends so much effort in exploring the ideas and isn't able to create a more coherent story. Also, it's heavy on exposition.

6/10, would recommend.

That has to be a typo or did you just give that rating to one of the greatest movies of all time by consensus among fan and critics :yk2 You've misunderstood the entire movie, you were looking for a CM Punk promo when the script was designed for an Undertaker.

A Star is Born - 9/10
Green Book - 9/10
Spiderman multiverse 8/10
Creed 2 - 4/10 (If anything I was rooting for the Dragos clan)
Aquaman - 5/10

watched Creed 2 yesterday - really poor as bad as rocky 6 - 2 worst in the series.

Im about to watch a film called The Nun

L’amant Double

Not what I expected & times a disturbing drama/thriller (high in sexual content also). Worth a watch.

Dark City does the concept better.

I saw Air Force One yesterday - a very entertaining action film. Harrison Ford and Gary Oldman put in strong performances. Only complaint was the third act was a bit dragged out with a daring midair rescue scene. 7/10.

I will check that out have not seen it but I imagine that movie probably as a singular entity was fantastic in terms of the narrative while the Matrix excels in all the other areas. But regarding the plot holes and incoherence, I think you should watch the trilogy back to back if you've not done so already ? that may help on that front imo but when you're looking at cinematography, visuals, action and combat then the Matrix is a revolutionary movie; I personally enjoyed the plot and character work to though but I see where you come from in terms of the holes but seeing all three may help your experience.

La La Land.

Thought it was awful, supposed to evoke the golden era of MGM musicals, but it was all gloss and no heart with instantly forgotten songs.

I agree about Reeves but otherwise it pushed every button for me. Had to watch it twice to work it out but is now a film I can watch over and over. In my top ten films ever. Loved the Gospel and Buddhist and shamanic nods and Smith is one of the greatest cinema villains.

He was scripted to portray a character which was more of a eerie/silent bad@ss, the screen presence and charisma was still conveyed; it's not a role which required constant expression, I couldn't imagine anyone else play Neo so he did a great job.

There is a sort of otherworldly element to him. The film is The Journey of the Hero with philosophy, spiritual and SF elements thrown in and he is a blank canvas for the viewer to project themself onto.

Agreed when I was first watching it I skipped through some of that middle part cause I was really sleepy re watched it later but yeah felt unnecessary. Still a very good movie and an excellent performance from Harrison Ford.

Total Dhamal

In one word " Hilarious "

OH MY GOD!!!! They released the third one!!!! That first movie was one of my favorite childhood movies along with Hera Pheri, Garam Masala and all those other amazingly funny Indian Movies from the 2000's.

Highly recommend for those who like action movies with a good story.

Will do btw loved Spiderman multiverse.

That's an awesome movie, we should get sequels in the future. Alita is awesome, it's in the vein of Valerian but I'd say this is better in the genre and overwhelmingly under rated by critics which has reflected in the poor performance domestically but internationally it has thrived and especially in China where the manga series originated from and their fans can be fickle with adaptations but responded really well; due to the success there a sequel could be likely. Rodriguez and Cameron made for a great duo.

Jurassic Park (1993)

The cast is excellent with Richard Attenborough, Jeff Goldblum and the famous voice actor Wayne Knight putting in memorable performances with the latter two offering great humour and wit. However the film doesn't tell a compelling human story with the exception of the professor who began hating kids protecting them from the dinosaurs later on.

The first hour features fascinating ethical discussion between the characters about whether humans should be interfering with the course of nature by resurrecting the dinosaurs from the dead. The second hour sees the group run from one disaster to another and just becomes another monster movie.

It's a decent 6.5/10 film that's well acted and the dinosaurs themselves are impressive looking but didn't compel me to watch the sequels.

Back to the Future

I thought I'd hate this film as it's so popular amongst the casual crowd but I really enjoyed this. Unlike Jurassic Park, it tells a great human story and doesn't rely on special effects.

The acting is terrific with Michael J Fox in the lead role and Christopher Lloyd (who I first saw in One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest as Taber) playing the loveable but barmy Doc Brown. He reminded me of a science tutor I once had. The minor characters play their part well too.

Some aspects are very dated like the special effects, the skateboards, the haircuts and the characters are stereotypes with the rebellious kid and eccentric scientist.

I despise romance plots but this worked as if Marty McFly cannot get his parents to meet he'll be erased from existence. George is very likeable as the geeky dad and teenager and it's great seeing him stand up to the bully Biff.

The ending had me gripped as I desperately hoped Doc Brown kept the note from Marty. I'd give it 8.5/10. It's not a complex film, you just sit down for 2 hours and enjoy it for what it is - heartwarming entertainment with tons of replay value.

Captain Marvel - I'd give it about a 6 or 7 out of 10 , the narrative lacked coordination and was very abstract but it gave me giggles and got better towards the finishing stretch. I wasn't planning to see this but it was a Friday thought what the hell and also because of the final Avengers.

While the movie had its moments, I never got the feeling the lead is going to make a big difference in the finale or that she is the most powerful hero in the Marvel Universe and one which some fans often say would defeat Superman if there was a battle between DC/Marvel :yk3

In recent times when it comes to female leads in a similar role I'd say both Alita: Battle Angel and Wonder-Woman were much better.

The Boy Who Harnessed the Wind

A heart-warming film about a 13-year-old boy is thrown out of the school he loves when his family can no longer afford the fees. He sneaks into the library and learns how to build a windmill to save his village from a famine.

8/10

I watched Kidulthod for the first time. Nostalgia about growing up in london!

I might check it out at some point.

Saw Captain Marvel today. It was OK.

This is what I've seen in the last two months:

Source Code 9/10 - Outstanding sci-fi with a thought provoking end. Jake Gyllenhaal and Vera Farmiga are superb.

Pi 8/10 - An unconventional film that makes you question what events were real and what's not. Loved the black-and-white production reflecting Max's view of the world being explained through numbers. The religious and spiritual themes were interesting.

Minority Report - 9/10 - Another excellent sci-fi film. Unlike The Matrix, MR is serious about its underpinning philosophy instead of using it as a cheap means to deliver another action flick. It asks once we know our destiny, do we accept it or seek to change it ? Strong performances by Cruise and Farrell too.

Transsiberian - 7.5/10 - This thriller is a slow burn but ratchets up the tension nicely. Weird seeing Woody Harrelson of True Detective play a goody two shoes Christian character but puts in a good performance as does Ben Kingsley who has a terrifically amusing Russian accent.

Cube - 6/10 - Okay film that doesn't quite execute well an intriguing premise. Similar to the film Exam.

The Ring - 6/10 - Intriguing premise but the film's need to explain literally everything about the curse is an unnecessary drag. Good performance from Naomi Watts.

The Game - 8/10 - If you suspend your disbelief about the "game" and whether Van Outen truly deserves to endure such torment, this is a tense film with Michael Douglas producing a brilliant performance as he becomes increasingly frantic and desperate to find the truth.

Another film I saw this weekend was The Departed.

The cat and mouse game makes for an intriguing premise but the film's really driven by the performances than the plot. It has an all-star cast with a surprisingly enjoyable cameo from Mark Wahlberg as the foul mouthed cop. Jack Nicholson is well, Jack Nicholson - born to play the wisecracking mob boss. Di Caprio and Damon were very good at playing internally conflicted characters living a lie in the knowledge the truth will destroy them.

I was even surprised to see Martin Sheen (President Bartlett of West Wing), Ray Winstone (of Paddy Power ads fame), David O'Hara (of Luther Season 3 fame) and Vera Farmiga (Cpt Goodwin from Source Code).

First 30-40 mins seemed like filler and the ending may leave you cold but the film is engrossing when the Chinese sting operation begins. 8.5/10.

Life 7/10 - A very, very thrilling Sci-fi movie I saw over the weekend. The plot was that the international space station receives a sample from Mars which has an alien lifeform organism. What happens next will have you at the edge of the seat for most of the movie. A crazy twist in the end as well. Ryan Reynolds, Jack Gyllenhaal.

Finally got into the Batman series after years of resisting. Superhero films aren't my thing but I actually enjoyed it.

Started with Tim Burton's 1989 Batman. When you promise Jack Nicholson and Michael Keaton I'm sold. Nicholson is tremendous as the Joker and I preferred him to Heath Ledger's version. Tim Burton made this the Joker's film - I was surprised at how much screentime he got compared to Batman who seemed to be playing second fiddle.

There's a memorable scene where Joker realises Grissom trapped him at Axis Chemicals and says "you set me up over a woman. A WOMAN !"

However I have to agree with Roger Ebert that it's a triumph of style over substance. Whilst it's very atmospheric - what do you remember from the plot ? Joker poisoning the household products and then gassing the people at the parade was his big scheme ? Batman's character meanwhile felt flat with Keaton delivering a very restrained performance. His backstory felt tacked on about an hour in.

The side characters are a mixed bag - Knox was amusing but Vicky was little more than a damsel in distress. It's a fun introduction to the series and a lot less cartoony than I feared, but falls short of being a great film due to a lack of a coherent story. 7/10.

Batman Begins (2005) - This is better than the 1989 film because they take their time fleshing out Batman's character arc. The child actor who played Bruce Wayne was terrific - I haven't felt a kill scene to be as emotionally resonant as when Wayne's parents are murdered here since the ending of Full Metal Jacket.

Christian Bale delivers a strong performance as Batman as we get an insight into his moral code. Far from the film glorifying vigilantism as I feared, he refuses to be an executioner and understands that compassion IS what separates good from evil. It's basic Sociology but for children watching it's a good explainer as to why revenge is not justice. Also let's not forget the gentlemanly class of Morgan Freeman and Cockney wit of Michael Caine.

The story was more substantive than Burton's 1989 film involving hallucinogenic neurotoxins and the League of Shadows led by Ras-al-Gul. Liam Neeson is over-the-top serious but memorable. Christopher Nolan delivers an extrordinary spectacle though the first car chase dragged on - Nolan can sometimes be overly in love with his own production and it felt like sensory overload.

Best of the trilogy for me. 9/10.

The Dark Knight (2008) - the second half of the film is strong with a powerful ending where Batman commits an act of heroic self-sacrifice. The greater good matters far more than his individual self.

However this film had too many bait and switches. I know it stays true to the comics but too many plot twists lessen their impact. Whilst Joker's charm is he's always one step ahead - the speed at which he moves and plots is unbelievable even for a superhero franchise.

Heath Ledger delivers a very dark and sadistic display as Joker but without sounding harsh his performance has been somewhat overstated due to his untimely demise. It's a very good performance - but to say it's the greatest acting performance of all time is OTT. The lengthy philosophical monologues became tiresome like with Rust Cohle of TD.

Another flaw is the characters are far more interesting than the actual plot - the Lau Security stuff was forgettable. However it's a stunning cinematic experience and a very realistic adaptation of the Batman series adults and kids can enjoy. 8.5/10.

Markhor Tim Burton deserves a lot of credit, on that main stream scale it was never going to be easy to bring bats to the big leagues but it was a great effort compared to past attempts and he did the origins justice; it's a movie which should be looked upon in the pioneer category, it influenced so many future releases in the genre and Nolan himself took great inspiration. I thought Keaton's attempt was decent while Jack stole the show, from a narrative POV Batman Returns was much better; have you seen that yet? I would 100% recommend it, it compliments the 1989 movie really well.

Agreed, I also find himself re-watching Batman Begins more then any of the Batman movies out of the Nolan trilogy so it has to be the best; it far more cohesive as a package then the others who enjoy spectacular individual performances and action sequences.

Captain Marvel

Not bad but nothing that we have not seen so far. I will not include it in my top 15 MCU movies.

Yeah if Burton's 1989 Batman wasn't the best Batman, it was an important one in reviving the series.

I watched The Dark Knight Rises to complete the Nolan series and I enjoyed it more than The Dark Knight which is usually billed as the best of the trilogy ! Bane's motivations, his connection to League of Shadows, and plot to destroy Gotham was more memorable and compelling than the Lau Security stuff in TDK. Bane's physical threat and the fact he's literally holding a ticking time bomb made him the most dangerous (and intriguing) opponent for me. Whereas Joker was only as intelligent as the script needed him to be.

Infact I'd revise my rating of The Dark Knight to 7.5/10, and give this 8.5/10. Ran quite long but once again the acting and dislogue delivered.

Watched The Dawn Wall.

Brilliant film about the story of perseverance, free climber Tommy Caldwell and climbing partner Kevin Jorgeson attempt to scale the impossible 3000ft Dawn Wall of El Capitan.

Dragged Across Concrete (2019)

S.Craig Zahler's third film starring Mel Gibson and Vince Vaughn as cops on suspension because of using excessive force. As one cop's poverty is forcing him live in an area where the safety of her daughter is being compromised and the other cop is thinking of proposing and starting a new life, both need some money. As they decent into the criminal underworld as civilians, they find themselves in the center of a major messed up situation. I can't really classify it as a cop movie or a gangster movie or heist movie. The best description is likely of a realistic crime movie, the type Tarantino used to make before he started to take himself too seriously. Reservoir Dogs and Pulp Fiction comes to mind, but it doesn't have the narrative all cut up into pieces like those movies but the style is familiar. It's not for the faint of heart (there is a scene where a persons stomach is being cut open to obtain a certain key that he had swallowed). I would recommend it to early QT fans. I plan to check out other Zahler movies as well. He is a rear breed among the current fancy camera work, fast editing style of directors .

Bad times at the El Royale

6.5/10

Not a bad movie. Revolves around 4-5 different kinds of personalities with different stories who all come together to stay at a hotel. It all ends in a bloody ending. The story is well told. Direction is good. However, sometimes it seems there is no purpose to the events in the movie. Otherwise i would have given it an 8.

Outlaw king

Mediocre, never really felt any intensity, Chris Pine was good throughout and that's about it.

4/10

Logan

Decent sendoff for Wolverine and Professor X. I understand some comic fans didn't like how dark the film was but seeing your heroes show signs of mortality makes them more likeable for me.

7.5/10

Searching

This is one of the films that incorporates contemporary technology well. I feared it'd be used as a gimmick and that it'd be hard to hold my attention with the premise being all the film's events occur on a computer screen.

But with intelligent use of apps like Facetime you get the human interactions and dialogue like any other film. The technology wasn't distracting in any way.

8.5/10. Solid thriller.

Pet Sematary(2019)

Very dark, I liked it better than the original.

The basic idea was very good by Stephen King. I do agree the original has vintage quality about it. I personally feel as far as script is concerned its one of the underrated ones.

Badla (2019) Starring Amitabh Bachchan

After downloading the movie, I realized it was a rip-off version of a Spanish Movie The Invisible Guest (2016).

Amitabh did great in the movie but I will suggest watching the original version, if not watched yet.

Not a ripoff but It's an official remake of that Spanish movie. They changed gender of lead protagonist.
