Prisoners

Up and down film, some scenes and moments are genuinely wow but the script is a let down in parts

Decent overall

7/10

The place beyond the pines

Enjoyed the first quarter with ryan gosling the standout performer but the film goes downhill after that

Just seemed overlong and contrived in the end

4/10

After Earth

Slow, poor and meandering For such a big film and cast the acting was poor, the story didnt make any sense and the ending was cringeworthy

3/10

Romeo + Juliet released in 1996 starring Leonardo DiCaprio and Claire Danes. A weird movie set in modern times but with Shakespearean dialogue used. It's a polarising film. You will either love it or hate it.

Remember watching the older version in school, the nudity and sex scenes had the whole class chuckling away:))

I knew you wouldn't be the romcom type, leatherface.

But do watch 500 days of summer, it is a smart movie and a critique of the romantic movies genre IMO.

Romantic comedies? This is my time to shine:

-500 days of summer
-Ted
-50/50
-Bridget Jones diary

Last but not least

-Love actually

Have you seen "Music & Lyrics" Hugh Grant and Drew Barrymore. I really liked it. It was a sweet and adorable movie, kind of emotional at the end too.

Not much into romantic movies but have to fess up. I really liked "One fine day" George Clooney and Michelle Pfieffer. Also the "Before Sunrise/Sunset/Midnight" series is brilliant as well.

That series is so interesting, esp with the 8 years gap. Céline <3

Was it a good film? Also, by "Older version", are you talking about the one from the 1990s?

Law Abiding Citizen.
Gerard Butler can act

Was a fantastic film! One of the 10 or so Hollywood films that I have watched.

The Hunger Games: Catching Fire (2013)

Just came back after watching this. To be honest I didn't enjoy much. I think Part-1 was better. Don't know how this movie is doing so well.

Exam

7.5/10

An interesting movie which goes along with a little suspense and confusion.. 8 candidates are finalized and called up for an ultimate selection process for a highly profiled corporate Job in an exam hall and given a blank paper to answer a question which they need to figure out within 80 minutes of allotted time under 3 rules given by the invigilator.

that is a damn good movie. I'd give it 9/10 :azeem

Flight Plan (2005)

7/10

The movie had its moments and Jodie Foster is just a brilliant actress

Watched "The girl with a dragon tattoo" Fincher's version once again. Criminally under-rated in my opinion. Made me think of why I go back to watching his movies over and over again.

Fincher's movies have a certain dark and mysterious almost a hypnotic feel to them. A unique amalgamation of the eeriness found in Cronenberg's works, the bizarreness of Lynch and the peculiarities of Polanski. It's like your watching an intricate nightmare, something very sinister and cold, playing out in front of you, piercing yours senses, terrifying your subconscious, but you are fascinated by it. You know the story, you know the dialogue, you how it ends but you need that hit of brutal and surgically sterile reality. It's your way to make sense of your surroundings. To keep your existence in order. To nourish some underlying gloominess that you long to remember. Whether it's Seven, Zodiac or Dragon Tattoo, the murder mystery has never been done with such characteristic command of the subject. A true genius in my opinion, the best in his class. A perfectionist.

Noroi (the curse) - Japanese horror. Nobody does horror like these guys. Was entertaining but dragged a bit

Watched The Dark Knight Rises yesterday, brilliant film, at least IMO, however the ending was a bit of an anticlimax. Marion Cottilard is shockingly underrated, was superb.

Except that her death scene is one of the lamest ever.

Carlito's way

I would give it a 6/10. They made a huge blunder by showing the end in the beginning that makes the later half an hour of the film pointless.

It looks only like a public service message which shows the repercussions of engaging in criminal activities, I have no problem with it that it gives a good message but they ruined the movie by showing the last scene of the film as the first one.

Still, baffles me why all the running and thrill at the end when they had already shown the end in the beginning

Otherwise this movie was a 9/10 for me.

Absolutely, Fincher's Se7en, Fight club , zodiac or Girl with dragon tattoo are a unique experience to watch. Even his other movie the social network and The curious case of Benjamin Button are brilliant to watch. His next film Gone Girl is also a mystery so it would be a treat to watch perhaps.

There is one dark and sinister film Blue Velvet by David Lynch which comes close to this category.

"Big Fish" is a good romantic entertainment.

American beauty is also a kind of drama cum romantic film as is Dances with Wolves. The Truman Show is also a classic of its own kind.

Other good romantic movies that I have seen are as follows;

A walk to remember
The Notebook
50/50
500 days of summer
Annie Hall
Silver linings playbook
Pride and Prejudice

Ask the dust its based on a book of an Italian author good movie acting was good by Colin Farrell aka Mr. Bandini

Se7ven was very good.

Zodiac was well made , but ending was a little odd ( my opinion ).

when is Gone Girl releasing ?

Disconnect

A drama centered on a group of people searching for human connections in today's wired world.

A very realistic movie , which traces lives of three different people. The movie is well made and very much socially relevant in modern times.

7.5 / 10

The Game was IMO very good too.

Blue Velvet was class. Dennis Hopper scared the living daylights out of me. When he appears with his cronies at Dorothy's house with Jeffrey there, it was the first and only time I almost screamed in horror. Dude was a boss!

An idiotic friend of mine ruined Fincher's "The Game" for me by telling me who the culprit was before I could watch the movie. The ultimate sin in my opinion. I still enjoyed it though. Remember having a huge crush on the female lead in the movie, Deborah Kara Unger. I had just seen her in Cronenberg's "Drive" based on a J.G.Ballard novel. Any fans of Cronenberg should definitely check that movie out. It's about a group of sickos who get sexual pleasure out of car crashes. Like other Cronenberg's movies, the cold and eerie feel of the movie makes the viewers uncomfortable yet fascinated by the subject but prevents them from developing any obvious associations with the main characters or finding sympathy or compassion with them. The sex scenes are sterile with an obvious hint of sadomasochism and voyeurism, making it impossible to obtain any stimulation out of them, yet they are vital to the movie's psychology, linking brutal violence and kinky sex together in a warped relationship. Quite possibly the most peculiar and audacious project ever undertaken by the eccentric Cronenberg.

Hated that movie!

I'm not surprised. It's hard to like that movie but I admire the boldness to take on such an unconventional and bizarre topic and make if anything a memorable movie. E.g. after watching that movie, going through a car wash is not the same anymore. ;)

David Lynch has an habit of trolling his spectators by putting "horror" scenes at unexpected moments... particularly remember one scene in Mulholland Drive.

I did not enjoy Mulholland Drive . You either watch a film for entertainment or time pass, this movie does kill your time well but in the end leaves a bad taste as it does not make any sense , Donnie darko is also similar sort of movie that does not make any sense in the end.

Hachi: A dog's tale

I had been ignoring this film for some months but I wanted to see something different today. It did not disappoint me though.

Once upon a time in the west

This was even better than Once upon a time in America. Even soundtrack and background score was amazing which suited every film scene. Can't be any lower than 10/10.

Mi Vida Loca

a movie about girls' gang in Mexico

Singh Saab the great

Sunny deol still stuck in 90's same old stories about villain dragging in family of hero

Why you bothered to see " Singh Saab "

Its a massive flop , even before release :P

You mean the homeless dude scene?

I remember another scene though. :moyo

Has anyone watched the new Hunger Games ?

I personally would some info, as I haven't followed the series at all, in books or films.

Swingers (1996) starring Jon Favreau and Vince Vaughn should watch it with a group of friends.8/10

Mystery women snapshot

Amateur sleuth Samantha Kinsey's latest case has her trying to figure out who killed her best friend Barbara after she was left out of her family's will and every one of the family members become suspects.

A good movie to be seen once. The story moves on pretty effortlessly and quickly.

6 / 10

'Fukrey' (2013)

Not much of a film but was enjoyable due to occasional funny scenes and dialogues. The swearing was disgusting!

I will give it six out of 10 based on entertainment value alone.

The Hunger Games Catching Fire, 8.5/10 Even better then the first. I just love this series can't wait to read the books, so many facinating themes are explored which we can relate to the ongoing problems of our own world.

Am glad the final movie will be split in two parts, should give them enough time to portray the depths of the book hopefully which can be an extremely difficult thing to do but they have done an amazing job so far the directer and writers.

Watched The Dark Knight Rises yesterday, brilliant film, at least IMO, however the ending was a bit of an anticlimax. Marion Cottilard is shockingly underrated, was superb.

Not sure which part of the trilogy I like the best. They would all rate as 4 or 5-star films though. Difficult to objectively place them any lower.

I watched Zero Dark Thirty. Thought it was wordy and overlong, and read as quite derivative of Homeland. A brave and interesting film nonetheless, with some real jolts.

My favorite movie over the last two years :D

Dark Knight was the best of the Trilogy. Although DarkKnightRises too has to be given the same importance as the way he finished the movie was the best to finish a Trilogy. Nolan-Hans Zimmer combination is just out of this world.

And who said that?? She is a French actress. Her masterclass movies are in French. I became a fan of hers after seeing her in Taxi and Public Enemies.

Captain phillips

A brilliant performance from Tom Hanks as expected, this is a captivating, riveting and exceptional film.

Must watch for film lovers

9/10

Marion Cotillard was the best in ''La vie en rose''. Crazy acting.

Why not have it as ''movie of the week''?

The Kovak Box

A sci-fi writer (Hutton) is invited to an island for a conference, only to discover that he's become lured into a trap.

The plot interesting to begin with. Ending has been a little disappointing. The screen play is not smooth enough , slow at parts .

5.5 / 10

Watched Chicago 8 this weekend

Highly political, anti war movie about the anti war movement leaders trial during veitnam war. Somewhat over the top but amazing movie.

Based on actual court transcripts of 8 anti-war protesters on trial for conspiring to cause riots at the 1968 Democratic National Convention in Chicago.

Saw a Korean flick called Montage

It was a decent enough movie...I think I've set the bar too high on Korean thrillers and this one was good but it's not as good as their best...still worth a watch though...

watched insidious 2 yesterday - so boring, really bad acting, 2 characters in this film which are so terrible. 2/10

gonna watch the conjuring - brother recommended me this, got good reviews

a massive difference these two films (considering same director and main guy), conjuring was really good, scared me in some places. 8.5/10

has anyone watched the remake of oldboy? if so any good

that is a damn good movie. I'd give it 9/10 :azeem

i watched it to thanks to you and haz.

i'd give Exam( 2009) 7/10, the film was let down by the ending it should have been more devious then than. Jonathon Nolan would have done a better job on the story.

Network 9.5/10

Really this script needs some doing

This film is quite similar to Magnolia but way better than Magnolia.

So, you listen to me. Listen to me: Television is not the truth! Television is a God-damned amusement park! Television is a circus, a carnival, a traveling troupe of acrobats, storytellers, dancers, singers, jugglers, side-show freaks, lion tamers, and football players. We're in the boredom-killing business! So if you want the truth... Go to God! Go to your gurus! Go to yourselves! Because that's the only place you're ever going to find any real truth

But, man, you're never going to get any truth from us. We'll tell you anything you want to hear; we lie like hell. We'll tell you that, uh, Kojak always gets the killer, or that nobody ever gets cancer at Archie Bunker's house, and no matter how much trouble the hero is in, don't worry, just look at your watch; at the end of the hour he's going to win. We'll tell you any **** you want to hear. We deal in *illusions*, man! None of it is true! But you people sit there, day after day, night after night, all ages, colors, creeds... We're all you know. You're beginning to believe the illusions we're spinning here. You're beginning to think that the tube is reality, and that your own lives are unreal. You do whatever the tube tells you! You dress like the tube, you eat like the tube, you raise your children like the tube, you even *think* like the tube! This is mass madness, you maniacs! In God's name, you people are the real thing! *WE* are the illusion! So turn off your television sets. Turn them off now. Turn them off right now. Turn them off and leave them off! Turn them off right in the middle of the sentence I'm speaking to you now! TURN THEM OFF...
