The original Spiderman 2 film is the best Spiderman to date. In fact, I think its the best superhero film out there atm slightly ahead of the Dark Knight.

How to Train Your Dragon 2

This film had a very very very tough task ahead of it, what with the original being one of the best animated films to date. But my God it accomplishes it!!

Just like the first, the animation, soundtrack, voice acting and visuals are amongst the best in the whole industry. Absolutely top notch.

Where it differs from the first however, is in its story. Whereas the first was a more lighthearted, while at times emotional affair, the sequel is much more orientated on the story rather than humour. Thats not to say it isnt funny, its hilarious at parts, but I felt the main focus was on telling an excellent story that has some very surprising twists (although one I could see from far away), rather than making you laugh out loud (which it still does do).

The sequel also gives more of a central role to the side characters than to Hiccup himself, unlike the first which was very much Hiccups story. There's a couple of scenes around half way through with Stoik the father, that have to be up there with my favourite scenes ever and may just draw a tear or two.

The freakin dragons are even more loveable than before, which I didnt think was possible, and simply watching them interact with the main cast and each other is a joy to see!

The characters themselves remain as great as ever, although only a handful of new ones appear here.

All in all, an excellent film that, like the first, you should definitely check out!! I wouldnt quite put it on the same level I would the first, though sequels rarely surpass originals. I suppose because I went into the first one blind and the second one with high expectations then naturally I wont quite rank it as high.

9.5/10

If you still havent seen these two films, watch them now!!

Fulci at it again! The 2nd part of his 'Gates of Hell' trilogy. This one is even more incoherent and lacks anything resembling plot structure than City of the Living Dead. It is not as creepy and unnerving as City. But Fulci manages to creep us out though and the climactic scene has a truly disturbing vision of hell which Fulci considers as an atheist's vision of afterlife. The icing on this mouldy cake is of course the gore and the red stuff flows freely here with eye-gougings, gunshots to the head and some good ol' whippings followed by a violent crucifixion. Considered Fulci's best film, I would say this is overrated but it's still a no-brainer to pick this over the safe and sanitized mainstream horror seen today.

A million ways to die in the west.

Basically a Family Guy style movie. Has all the random elements of a cartoon. Worth a good laugh with the right crowd. And has Charlize Theron in it.

I'm kinda disappointed that no one has heard of Italian horror greats like Dario argento, Mario Bava and Lucio Fulci. IMO, they made some truly path breaking stuff that very few people know of. The entire 80s slasher subgenre was a watered down version of the giallo genre from the 60s and 70s. If you haven't seen Suspiria, Deep Red, A Bay of Blood, Blood and Black Lace, Black Sabbath, then you haven't really seen truly great horror.

A Most Wanted Man

An Anton Corbijn directed movie based on a John Le Carre's novel with Philip Seymor Hoffman playing the lead in his final role. I would have watched this movie even if it had gotten bad reviews just to see Hoffman but it was actaully a real treat. In his role as the head of an undercover German spy network, he plays a gruff, overweight, perpetually chain smoking, almost alcoholic, sad, lonely and workaholic brute. This is as much a character study as it is a spy thriller. The persistently gloomy and opaque nature of the movie is only broken by the presence of Rachel McAdams who is playing a human rights lawyer. William Dafoe as always has managed to find a role in another European based serious and dark movie. The guy has a talent for playing such small but memorable roles. He should be replaced with Kevin Bacon in the "six degrees" game. The movie has its obvious weaknesses and the plot does seem to be a bit stretched out at times but ultimately Hoffman kept me engaged. His unflinching, bare all, no holds barred peformace reminded me of Brando in A Streetcar named Desire wailing "Stella, Stella" at the top of his lungs. Its like Hoffman is screaming out at us, laying out his tormented soul in front of the cameras with such craft and mastery, the conviction and purity of his art really puts his counterparts to shame. Brillaint direction by Corbijn as well and you can see his roots in the music video genre like Fincher from the use of visually stunning and mood setting color schemes and the foggy undercurrent running in the background throughout the movie as if to complement the murkiness of the story. The use of lush heavy orchestral music is brilliant as well. A fitting ode to an acting genius.

Mardaani 6/10

ok movie though Rani should have been more athletic it was bit awkward at times also some shocking stats at the end like every 8 mins a child goes missing in India :O

5.5/10

Concluding chapter of the Gates of Hell trilogy by Lucio Fulci. Great beginning and a terrific last 15 minutes marred by some bizarre, dull writing and some of the worst dubbing I have ever witnessed. The gore as usual in a Fulci film is plentiful though a bit restrained compared to the first two entries.

Story consists of a family shifting into a house where they start experiencing violent, supernatural encounters. Or something like that. Plot doesn't really matter in a Fulci movie. Gore does. And maggots of course.

Mardani.

Not just another cop movie. Not for Singham and Dabanng fans. Rani Mukherjee plays a brave cop, but the character is real, not larger than life. The movie focuses on a big dark underbelly of india (child abuse and human trafficking )..which doesn't get the media attention it deserves. It was not a feel good movie..as the movie ended with stats that show that the battle against woman trafficking is a hard one. Only Rani Mukherjee could have played this role with ease, not the other chocolate heroines. Good to see that women were not shown as sex objects, even though the movie was on forced prostitution. No tantalizing camera angles that force you to focus on certain parts of the anatomy. Otherwise bollywood is a cesspit of misogyny. Not a great plot line, but the movie is not made for entertainment either. So full marks to the movie makers for trying to do a bit of justice to how women are portrayed in our movies.

'Godzilla' (2014)

Took the subway all the way to Wiesbaden (around about an hour and 10 minutes it took) as I caught up with this film´s last show in the country! Phew, race against time! Came back home at 0:00 AM.

Quite enjoyable. Kept me on my toes throughout. The action was admirable, and I may just add, that it was heavily dependent on action alone instead of the story.

I want to watch sucker punch. Just intrigued by the name. Would anyone recommend it?

Quite possibly the most confused, muddled and obscure attempts at a movie of all time.

It literally was a video game or music video, that lasted 2 hours too long.

I will never get those hours back.

Woah, really??

I'll let that one go then :/

I've been going a through quite a few British films which are not usually of the highest standard but there is a low concept, gritty realism to British cinema which I can relate to.

The Business - British Gangster film set in Spain starring Danny Dyer and Tamer Hassan. Worth a watch.

Severance - British Horror film about a team building weekend on a remote mountain. Starring Danny Dyer this is an excellent film with a lovely blend of humour and outrageous scenes of extreme violence.

Football Factory - A realistic hooligan flick about a group of Chelsea hooligans and their violent exploits around the country following their club. Like most of the films above and generally British films given their graphic nature, this is not a movie for everyone but due to the realistic nature they work for me and I enjoyed it.

Rise of the Foot Soldier - Basically a story of two halves. The first half an excellent portrayal of Carlton Leach as a feared football Hooligan to a second half of gritty and violent gangster film. It worked and I enjoyed it.

Cass - Another Football Hooligan film about an orphaned Jamaican who rises to become one of the most feared men in Britain. Again, based on a true story, I felt it was the weakest of the Hooligan films but still enjoyable.

I watched Dom Hemingway the other day. Hollywood just doesn't do dark comedy like the Brits do.

Severance was amazing too.

Hollywood are too formulaic for my liking nowadays, I struggle to watch the same stuff being churned out over and over again.

I haven't seen Dom Hemingway yet but I've heard good things about it. Another one to watch is Sightseers. It blends the line between dark comedy and horror quite impressively.

Mary Kom.

Average film....but great inspirational theme.
Great to see sportswoman who rise from hardships and even motherhood... to become World Champion in boxing so many times.
A perfect story of commitment and dedication to all aspects of life.

Alas, the movie was weak.... but rightly glorifies one of the greatest sportswoman.

M.C. Mary Kom....the "Magnificent Mary"

Wasn't Sightseers made by Ben Wheatley the dude behind Kill List? That movie was a fine example of jumping from one genre to another.

Let's be Cops, it was a fun movie. First half was great the second not so much but the humor saved it.

Kiri check out Memento, greatest thriller of all time imo and the best psychological thriller i've ever seen.

Have not watched a bollywood movie in years i was looking forward to Mary Kom given that it's a biopic the plot ought to be good which not the norm for most Indian movies these days.

Before I go to Sleep is a promising psychological thriller staring NICOLE KIDMAN :afridi which just released. The premise with amnesia is always intriguing. Looking forward to it might use my orange Wednesdays on it this week or perhaps the next.

Yh, watched it before. Absolutely insane story and sequence.

Easily the best Jude Law performance I've seen to date. Will check sightseers out.

Any psychological thrillers out there similar to Memento?

Shutter Island
Shining .. (if you have passion for Kubrick's awesomeness + Nicholson's craziness)
Following (Nolan's first movie.... Nolan Fan's should check it out for sure)
Primal Fear (Ed norton's debut .. an awesome one)

or you if you appeciate old classics... Hitchcock's movies are in class of their own
My fav
Vertigo and North by Northwest
also check out Strangers on a train, Rear window... Psycho is a given :P.

Did you enjoy Kill List? Loved it.
It had startling similarities to A Serbian Film except it wasn't nearly as morally repugnant. A pretty good domestic drama plus hitman thriller plus horror movie.

Check out Wheatley's entry in ABCs of Death. He is responsible for the short film U. Very well-directed and suspenseful.

Have seen Shutter Island absolutely loved that, difficulty reading the book now because i know what happens :))

Have not seen Shining yet because am still reading the book

Downloaded Following last week need to see that, the concept sounded good and anything the Nolan brothers collaborate on is always good especially their deep dark thrillers.

Have seen Rear Window absolutely loved that, it's actually based on a short story you should check it out. Seen bits and bobs of Psycho.

So i need to see Vertigo, North by Northwest, Strangers on a train and Primal Fear. Thanks dude.

Guardians of the Galaxy - Good film with lots of humour. Only downside was the main Ronan. Yes Thanos was in it but was used sparingly.

7.5/10

What was the last film you watched? 'Godzilla' 2014

Itni door jane ki kya zaroorat thi ???

Kisi aur chakar main gaye hogay..

Because, as I said, it was its last show yesterday in Germany and it dawned too late on me that I had this film on my list. Still, happy though as I didn´t miss out on it.

As for your allegation, I defend myself by providing the details of those few hours:

Left from home at 18:00 PM, reached the Marktplatz station at 18:10. After waiting there for 16 minutes, I took the tube at 18:26 and reached there in about an hour. It then took me 15 minutes to reach the cinema. After booking the ticket I strolled a bit outside for 25 minutes and was back around at 20:10. The film started at 20:15. After it was over at 22:18 or so, I hurried to the station and reached there at 22:25. Bought myself something to eat and took the tube again to back home at 22:36. Ate and drank (water, 500 ML) on my way and reached Marktplatz at 23:46 or so, with a slight delay. Rushed to home from there and was home in about 10-15 minutes, around at 23:55 or slightly later.

Anymore doubts now? Please make allegations against innocent beings like myself.

Want to watch the new Kevin Smith horror-comedy Tusk where a man is tortured into becoming a walrus. Sounds like The Human Centipede but it reportedly isn't. It's also getting some good reviews in the festival circuit with major praise for Michael Parks as the maniac who tries to turn Justin Long into a walrus. It's also a comeback for the Boy who sees dead people, Haley Joel Osment who has gotten a bit chubby. Not to mention,
Johnny Depp
has a cameo in it as well.

Read about this. Sounds very interesting.

Should also watch Donnie Darko if you are not disturbed enough.

Seen it many, many times.

Other suspense films in that mold: The Machinest, Se7en, Manchurian Candidate, Memento, Fight Club, Sunshine, The Girl with the Dragon Tatoo, Usual Suspects, Prestige, Chronicle.

5/10

A seriously weird zombie movie. THOSE ITALIANS! For one, there is no burial ground to be seen. There are bear traps in a garden! The zombies are pretty smart climbing walls, working together with a battering ram and using sharp weaponry with deadly accuracy. And did I mention a subplot where a dwarf actor with a bad wig is acting as a 12-year old who loves his mother a bit too much? I mean really too much? Too bad that it's still pretty boring. Although I did like that a couple of characters shockingly do the sensible thing on a couple of occasions.

Really? A Serbian film? Lol wow. Ok. Didn't think it was that bad. I have not seen ASF and nor do I plan to, but didn't think it was on the level of Kill List.

Mary Kom.

Realized what a bad actress Priyanka Chopra is..and won't be surprised if she bags a national award for acting just because the movie is promoting a sportsperson from the neglected north east. That they could not find someone from the north east to play the Mary Kom character tells the story. Bollywood sucks at making biopics. Bhaag Milkha Bhaag and now Mary Kom. They don't make them like Paan Singh Tomar. There was a scene when she makes fun of the post of a Hawaldaar, and the audience laughed. When will they learn to treat every profession with dignity? And the unnecessary patriotism stuffed into the movie was irritating. During the last scene the movie asked the audience to stand up while the national anthem played. I sat crossed legged while patriots stood up around me. I hoped some over zealous patriot remarked on me so that I could have thrashed all patriotism out of him. Not the first time I would have beaten someone in a theatre.

I meant thematically. ASF is a competently made film which arguably makes it even more despicable. In ASF, the protagonist is an adult movie star called for a last film which goes awry. Of course the things that guy does in the movie makes the dude from Kill List look like a monk.

dude!! why do your posts always make me go

In what world is it ok, to honor a multiple times world Champion a post of constable.
Imagine Sachin being honored by this instead of a seat in Rajya Sabha.
The movie highlights blatant gender discrimination in our sporting federations
HArbhajan Singh was made a SP in Punjab police at the age 21 after the glorious Australia series.
(I am not really sure if he had any educational qualification)

I dont give a damn that u diss the national anthem, it doesn't matter to the country because there are enough people who actually care.

PS: regarding the movie i have already given my comments in a post before.

Read the post again mr facepalm.
"...the audience laughed. When will they learn..." what was so funny to laugh about it? and the way priyanka chopra said it made me want to smack her ugly face.

do you know that not standing for the anthem while it is played in a movie is perfectly fine according to the laws. not that i am that law abiding.

It was a request at the end of the movie.. u duffus... the irritating part is that u as the moron u are feel proud at being able to diss at the anthem....

Dude, I am nowhere close to Mary Kom's level, but with my qualifications if someone tells me that i deserve a constable post.. I would be pretty mad too.

PS: I am not going to respond .. on this and derail this long going thread. Replying to you is like watching interactive India TV, I must have lost some IQ by now.

another thing i noticed about the movie. she had to change her name to mary kom, so that it is easy to pronounce. it is understandable when chinese or indians anglicize their names in foreign countries.. but an indian having to change her name in india? isn't that shameful.

RUSH!!
(had been wanting to watch it for a long time)

Awesome movie... awesome story...
Ron Howard knows how to make gems

Interesting. Thematically, I thought Kill List was amazing. So I might check out ASF. And then get my eyes bleached.

Mary Kom 6/10

1st half of movie was great after that it just fell flat still a good effort also the length was decent unlike Bhaag Milkha

Pakistan should make a movie about Mohammad Waseem who is from Balochistan and let's see if that is as famous as Mary Kom

Not worth it IMO. It's not one of those movies you brag about to your friends. Infact I'm ashamed to watch it as much as I did. Mind you it's not the goriest ever. But the filmmakers claiming it's something more than exploitation cinema is pure hogwash.

Dawn of the Apes: 8/10 Simply brilliant, story telling, action, plot, emotion and acting etc everything was awesome.

Best line in the movie:

Koba: ape not kill ape

Ceaser: you not ape!!! **POW**

No surprises there. None of the so called Bollywood 'actresses' of current generation can act to save their lives.

mary kom was not bad. priyankas acting was good.

finally a positive review, if you look at all the garbage that comes out the subcontinent barring WAAR in recent times i was really looking forward to Mary Kom because at least it would have a descent plot/story to it you can't go wrong with a biopic. Last bolly movie i watched was chennai express in cinema  surely it will be better then that pile of garbage swingy

Are you just saying that because Priyanka Chopra is pretty? given that all pretty faces are perceived to be bimbo's that can't act? and are critiqued to the max given zero credit at all given that their beauty conceals even the little bits where they have done well.

Anyhow from the reviews I've read from critics they've generally praised her performance.

Priyanka Chopra is pretty since when lol? Anyway the movie is not as good as some people are trying to portray it ,one time watch only.

lmao even if we made a movie on ppcl it would be better than chennai express.
