Never liked the Grudge and didn't like this dull, lifeless PG-13 "horror" movie either. Wastes it's likeable cast. I don't mind bad movies but I do mind such passionless dreck. Even a half-decent twist at the end can't liven things up.

finally a positive review, if you look at all the garbage that comes out the subcontinent barring WAAR in recent times i was really looking forward to Mary Kom because at least it would have a descent plot/story to it you can't go wrong with a biopic. Last bolly movie i watched was chennai express in cinema  surely it will be better then that pile of garbage swingy

:)))

I faked being ill just to worm my way out of watching that.I knew it would be beyond pathetic. The group that I was going with went ahead and saw it.Later they told me they wished they had fever too.And a couple of them were Shahrukh fans.

Highway. Really liked this movie. Good acting by Alia Bhatt.

Highway is a great movie. One of the best to come out this year.

Have you watched queen??Its even better.

Am a sharukh fan to only reason i went with a mate which wanted to watch it am surprised he would accept such a pathetic script, it was the first bollywood movie i watched since wanted and had high hopes but it was a flop of the highest order and i don't see how even chilled out dudes could enjoy that. lmao i wish i walked out bt stayed because of my mate, the only movie i ever walked out of in cinema was man of steel

Brilliant and improbably successful mix of The Matrix and Groundhog Day. Unfortunately suffered from a terrible marketing campaign and wasn't a huge success in US. But a highly recommended movie. Smart, fun and exciting. Tom Cruise shows why he is such a huge star and Emily Blunt's Rita might just be the Sarah Connor of this generation.

Edge of Tomorrow was top notch, probably one o the best movies from this year. It could have been even more were it not for that unnecessary romance and the hollywood ending.

Yeah. If it had ended 5 minutes before, it would have been so much better. The kiss was unnecessary too. I could argue the action was too much (not Man of Steel much) but still atleast there was no crappy shaky cam. Plus it was great to see Bill Paxton in a funny role again.

Rush - What an amazing film. Great cinematography and acting, especially from the guy playing Nikki Lauda (who was also good in another register for Goodbye Lenin). I loved the scene where Nikki and his soon-to-be wife are stranded and the italian guys recognize him. There was something genuinely heart-warming about that.

leatherface58 : Emily Blunt in EoT blows Sarah Connor out of the water, it's not even a contest.

Sarah Connor from T2 was ready to slaughter an innocent family. She was pretty far out. Not to mention she was doped up on meds and was most likely raped quite often by that sleazy orderly. What she became inspite of this makes her pretty badass in my book.

Though IMO, Ripley, Sarah and Rita all are great examples of strong female protagonists.

Watched Wolf Creek 2.

In a word gruesome !

Based on some true events also which makes it even more fascinating.

Enjoyed it, but it's definitely only for horror film buffs - 8/10.

American Pie - Very funny lol

I would advise movie fans to go to IMDB website and set-up an account so you can rate your films, discuss films and stuff. Great site for movie lovers. Empire Online is another great movie forum.

How to Train Your Dragon 2

This film had a very very very tough task ahead of it, what with the original being one of the best animated films to date. But my God it accomplishes it!!

Just like the first, the animation, soundtrack, voice acting and visuals are amongst the best in the whole industry. Absolutely top notch.

Where it differs from the first however, is in its story. Whereas the first was a more lighthearted, while at times emotional affair, the sequel is much more orientated on the story rather than humour. Thats not to say it isnt funny, its hilarious at parts, but I felt the main focus was on telling an excellent story that has some very surprising twists (although one I could see from far away), rather than making you laugh out loud (which it still does do).

The sequel also gives more of a central role to the side characters than to Hiccup himself, unlike the first which was very much Hiccups story. There's a couple of scenes around half way through with Stoik the father, that have to be up there with my favourite scenes ever and may just draw a tear or two.

The freakin dragons are even more loveable than before, which I didnt think was possible, and simply watching them interact with the main cast and each other is a joy to see!

The characters themselves remain as great as ever, although only a handful of new ones appear here.

All in all, an excellent film that, like the first, you should definitely check out!! I wouldnt quite put it on the same level I would the first, though sequels rarely surpass originals. I suppose because I went into the first one blind and the second one with high expectations then naturally I wont quite rank it as high.

9.5/10

If you still havent seen these two films, watch them now!!

Directly coming here from watching the movie just to let you know that this movie has to be rated 9.5/10 and rightly so!

One of my best movie experiences of this year. Rest you have explained every bit of this movie to the precise point! Unusual to be saying this about a sequel but this one was close to perfect for an animated movie in my opinion.

I have watched 4 Emily Blunt movies over the past week; I may have found a new favourite actress.

If the last movie holds up, it would be the best animated movie franchise.

I happened to watch that movie yesterday. I found the first one better. Half of the movie in this one was about showing kids flying on dragons just for the sake of it. The first one showed relationship building, and how a dragon was won over by a kid. This one didn't hold any such intrigue. That the hero reminded me of Donal Cozzie (i don't know why), took a bit from the movie experience.

I'm flattered

Though, barring poor social skills, I really am nothing like Hiccup :))

You have to see the first one mate.

Go to Prime Wire or any site you know of, grab some headphones and watch at about 10pm in bed. Guaranteed winner :))

I reviewed it as well, although its probably a few pages back at this stage.

The sequel is online now as well, thats how I watched it. Couldnt get to the cinema unfortunately

7/10

A couple goes to a secluded place for their honeymoon and slowly their life starts falling apart due to various events. The movie keeps you guessing as to whether it is a vampire film or an alien invasion film or just a couple whose marriage is breaking down. Highly intriguing though a bit slow. Excellent acting by the lead couple kept me hooked throughout. Ending is a bit ambiguous though you do get a fair bit of idea what's the problem.

Cinematic craftsmanship at its very best. A very difficult movie to design and execute but this flick with its ingenious concept end up being a gripping thrill ride!

The Double (2013 - starring Jessie Eisenberg)

This movie left me with concussion! An intentional display of cheap imagery, repetitive scenes, pee-yellowish setting and its over the top sound track and sound effects and obnoxious plot about a person having dual personality disorder was more than I could absorb.

Wake in Fright (1971)

An Australian movie considered a forgotten classic. Saw in on Netflix. It's a story of a bonded teacher working in a remote small town in the endless and desolated Australian outback. He has dreams and aspirations of making something better of his life. During school vacations he decides to go to Sydney and lands overnight in another slightly bigger town called the Yabba. After a night of hard drinking and bar hopping he comes across a strange game of coin toss over which people are gambling. He manages to win some and decides to risk it all so he can make $1000 to become free of his teaching position. He naturally ends up losing all and the rest of his cash as well. Now broke and no way to get to Sydney he gets involved with a bunch of locals whose main occupation seems to be drinking beer almost every living second of their lives and engaging in general mayhem, brutality and violence. There is an extended and frighteningly real Kangaroo hunting expedition near the end of the movie which is extremely graphic and sadistic. The movie is about isolation, anxieties of missing out on the world, sexual insecurities and a deeper commentary on the hazards of male camaraderie and the herd mentality. The town of Yabba and its inhabitants are portrayed like zombies, mindlessly sucking on every living thing they encounter and getting away with it through their hospitality and social niceties, absolving them of all moral wrongdoings. Great western genre soundtrack. Worth a watch.

Secret In Their Eyes 10/10

Seen it before. Beautiful piece of film making. A Hollywood remake starting Julia Roberts is in the works.

It's shocking how much this classic is still entertaining. Sure there is melodrama in it and the acting looks overwrought but Karloff is fantastic. Truly amazing. The film even makes an astute observation about how humans are not really that different from the monster. Dr. Frankenstein is much more sympathetic here than in the Hammer Horror version played by Peter Cushing much like Karloff's Creature being more pitiable than Christopher Lee's murderous monster.

This movie's legacy is STILL ALIVE!!!

Meet the Parents 7/10

Good movie De Niro was impressive as ever have downloaded the next part :)

A Lonely Cow weeps at Dawn 3/10

A bizarre movie the title made me curious and downloaded it but it was crap*
* rating only given got some info about Japanese culture

A Dirty MMS 4/10
Another crappy Indian movie comprising of ugly so-called actors with no story at all

Wasn´t the girl in it quite beautiful? She was into becoming one of my innocent crushes but the film itself was too short for my feelings to take full effect.

I had slowly developed strong affection. The scene where Hoffman says something extremely offensive about her to that man from the bank,.... I would have punched him if only I wasn´t sitting some 75 metres away from the big screen.

Yeah she is mA, I've seen her before but can't think where from :)) there was so much sensual tension between her and the chechen :yk i was hoping for their relation to develop further but it was a thriller lol no room for intense romance.

Haha i remember that, still there were scenes where Hoffmans one liners were so hilarious

Van Damme films (My favourite action star):-

Kickboxer
Sudden Death
Universal Soldier
Bloodsport
Double Team
Timecop

had not watched Gangs of Wasseypur till now, until my friend showed me Martin Scorcese's letter to Anurag Kashyap.
I watched both the parts for 5 hours straight, and must say was blown over especially by Manoj Bajpai and by the guy who played Faizal.
A very real story from the heartlands of Bihar.

Which is exactly what would have broken my heart. Now 'Titanic' (1997) was long enough that my feelings could take full effect for Kate Winslet, but those 'scenes' left me shattered.

This now it looks better, more pleasing to the eye. Simple, innocent and cute.

Daawat-e-Ishq

When a hard core non veg hyderabadi girl meets a lucknow cook, instead of duping him she falls in love. The movie is a light hearted romance-comedy which touches upon dowry and misuse of anti dowry laws, but the main theme is lucknow. The theatre was almost housefull and people were hooting when the movie shifted to lucknow and the familiar streets and gullis were shown. Parineeti Chopra doesn't look good, but acts well. The new guy is also a natural actor. Nice clean family movie, not even a kiss scene, only a hug at the end.
On the topic of dowry, i think it is the right of the groom to demand dowry. if the girl's family doesn't like the offer, they are free to go elsewhere. i am only against dowry harassment after marriage. The dowry rate of a guy(in the movie) who was going for MBA to usa was 80 lakhs, which is actually cheap. I am myself worth more than that in the dowry market.

DHONI183 : Have you ever seen ''In the mood for love''? I think it would be right down your alley. Subtitles so you won't have problems with the english, no nudity and, more importantly, very subtle and contemplative romantic movie.

Manoj Bajpai is a very talented actor , very under rated.

Unrequited or unfulfilled love, aren't those the best forms of romance when it comes to dramatic expression.

Do these dowry rates get published anywhere or updated every few days like the stock market, or is there a scale or something where you put your info and it'll give you the current dowry rate, just curious to see where I will land in that list.

There was a dowry calculator website, can't find it now ( the first result is not the one). but with anecdotal data i have a fair guess of the right dowry amount. my friend who is a cop, had offer of 5 crores (0.8 million usd). the highest rate is for prestigious govt officers, then depends on your finance and properties, then education (and looks dont' fetch a dime). if you are working in the USA, the minimum is 1 crore. lots of black money in india and people can get the grooms they want.

Money and power are temporary, good genes are forever. If I had a daughter, I would pay 2 crores for good looks while good eductation would only fetch one at most.

with money and power you can buy good genes. you can get a pretty wife once you get money and then the genes of your offspring will get a boost. have seen many rich and ugly grooms with stunning wives.

The dowry is given by the wife's family, not the groom's. Also, from an evolutionary point of view, males can have as much progeny as they want so good genes for the offspring is not as much a concern as for females.

Agreed. Its a cycle. Attractive people are attracted to other attractive people and end up having attractive children. But you can break the cycle with money.

Maniac

A hard hitting , fast moving movie.

yes, you are wrong. that is not dowry. it's mehr.

Okay i remember now mehr. It was in pak serial rukshar the girls mother wan't letting the marriage or nikaah get started until the guy's father gave mehr...

Are u muslim ? Do muslim girls give dowry too!

although it is not islamic, dowry is prevalent in sub continental muslims too (more a cultural than a religious thing). among bengalis dowry is a strict no (most forward looking community in india). among south indians dowry is so rampant. among the north it is practically nil.

no, i am a non muslim (but look and talk like a muslim)

Is days of future past after last stand? these x-men films are really confusing when when it comes to the timeline. Also where would the X-men: Apocalypse would fit in then even though the film has not been made yet but will be coming out next in the franchise?

Okay. But it would be nice if some pakistani or an indian muslim shed some light on this.. When u say north which north are u talking about. I saw 2 states and there too punjabi guys family was haggling for car etc and on oprah winfrey they featured a punjabi girl who sent the bharaat packing on the day of the wedding cause the grooms family was demanding fridge tv etc.. Most hindi movies of the past(80's) have many movies regarding dowry deaths. Regarding South yes but in think it is mostly Andhra pradesh and among the reddy caste others not so much i think. I am marathi and in our community we share expenses of the wedding.. But i am married to a southie telugu guy and i know he would have got a very hefty dowry if he had gone for an arranged marriage..

Exactly what I believe! It is due to such thoughts that elderly people are highly valued in our culture.

That is one good Movie from Bollywood. It took me 2 days to watch the first half of Part 1, Then I got interested to movie afterwards which I watched the rest of it in one full stretch. Manoj Was good. But it was Nawazudden's performance which mad the movie Above class.

Is the State of Bihar still this worse without the Police and Laws having any role. Or is it a bit exaggerated In the movie?

I thought that among muslims dowry is given by guys!! Am i wrong in thinking like that.

Am not sure but I have heard that in Saudi Arabia and all, the girl can ask whatever she wants from the guy as the Mehr and the boy should give it to her no matter how costly it is. Here in Kerala ,the boy decides the mehr and also the dowry.

The sequel to the demented horror comedy anthology from 2012 is even more demented. The good news is the bad stories are not as bad as in the first. The bad news is the highs are not as high as in the first movie either. Another issue is the best short of the film is the very first one.

On the whole I liked A, C, E, O, Q, R, S, U, W, X and Z. Did not like G and H one bit.

The problem with most stories like L was that they ended as soon as they got interesting.

Not as good as part 1 but even the worst in this is not as horrible and downright lazy as the M story from Part 1.

5/10

This movie hasn't even been released yet. But I know a guy who is a friend of Tim League, one of the producers and I sneaked into a screening. :uakmal

It's an independent horror movie. 26 short films directed by different directors around the world. Each director is given a letter and he chooses the word. The short revolves around death. Otherwise, the director can do whatever he wants. Directors include directors of You're Next, Cube, The Sacrament, V/H/S so it is not a cheap Syfy movie.
