The wind and the Lion (1975) 5/10

Sean Connery was good in his role as a Jehadi President Roosevelt also did a fine an ok adventure film

What was the last film you watched? ('Maqbool' 2003)

Just gave the above film another go within 24 hours.

Now I expect TM Riddle to come in to say, "Come on, it wasn't that good!" :))

Nah that's cool. It's really a good movie.Best work of vishal bhradwaj till date.

I was thinking about going to theatre to watch Shahrukh Khan's new movie Happy New Year but when I read the reviews, I changed my mind. Saved money.

7/10

A creepy body horror-science fiction film from David Cronenberg. His first film in fact. Consists of the dwellers of a collection of luxury apartments being terrorized by parasitic creatures who turn them into sex-crazed zombies. Some truly horrific stuff in this. Cronenberg really gets under your skin if he wants to.

A Hard Day

Good Korean thriller from this year...a step up from recent offerings...SKorea set the bar too high thriller wise with the likes of Memories of Murder, the Chaser etc...and good movies just don't live up to the standards set...neither does this one but its still a very good film...

Memories of Murder
This post made me watch it expecting a great movie. But sadly the greatness was because of its ambiguity. Somehow movies which leave open questions and ambiguous endings become critics favourites. I felt kind of cheated, having wasted more than 2 hours watching a whodunit only to be left with an anti climax.

Stranger on the Third Floor (1940)

Part of my experiment of exploring film noir. A nice, simple, short movie - just over an hour long. Good acting, but the cinematography was the highlight for me (then again, I'm a noob in the field so yeah..)

Have to watch Bande a part now.

Happy New Year

A team of losers win the love of millions in their quest to pull off the biggest diamond heist ever by team India.

Shahruk is out to take revenge on Jackie Shroff who cheated his father. He gets a dance Team ready who would carrying on the heist to take revenge on the day of finals of dance Competition in Dubai.

The movie obviously inspired by several heist movies of Bollywood. There are some very good comedy moments in the movie. But at the same time script is weak. There is no natural progression. Deepika plays a good cameo. Still a very average movie.

5.5 / 10

leatherface58: Honeymoon?
Stars Ygritte in a bizarre American accent! Very good performances but the movie is slow. Worth watching once for fans of slow burn horror. You can't quite tell who/what the villains are till the end.

'Rise of the Planet of the Apes' (2011)

What a fantastic film! Wow! I am overawed by it. In my opinion it was better than 'Dawn of the Planet of the Apes' (2014).

I don´t think that the world in general has produced as great a leader as Caesar was:)).

Happy New Year
Pathetic movie and too long. The think I hated about this film that there were racial slur used on Korean Team and use of vulgar language.Another low from SRK

Echo your sentiments fully, apart from the fact that the film deserves negative marks

"Let's be cops" - Hilarious movie, this is what I wanted 22 jump street to be like. Two losers impersonate cops around the city, and things get complicated for them as they continue with this drama. 7.5/10

"Step Up All In" - Very predictable step-up movie, brings nothing new to the table. Even the dance part ain't that great. 5/10

The Passion of Anna (1969)

Ingmar Bergman's only movie available on Netflix. A mans solitude is interrupted by a grieving woman who lost her family in a car accident. Another married woman has an affair with that same man because she does not feel wanted by her husband. Another man gets wrongly accused of cruelty to animals and drive to suicide. Eventually, the first man cannot bear companionship and in the end leaves that relationship for isolation. Some of themes explored in the movie: love is proven to be circumstantial and fleeting, life is cruel and unfulfilling, we all have our demons and nothing can free us from them. Happy watching!

I watched Noah with Russell Crowe last night in 3d (bluray).

I had low expectations, but it turned out to be highly entertaining.

Happy New Year 5/10
very long movie with some pathetic actors like Bachan Jr. & Sonu Deepika was again in Chennai express mode "a villager" yet the masses in India has made this a blockbuster

Phir Hera Pheri 6.5/10
Gave it a go at my office today though had watched it before but Nayatel only has one Indian movie channel therefore, enjoyed the comedy this series deserve a 4th movie

'Maze Runner' (2014)

Finally watched the film I had set my eyes on since August. Did it live up to my expectations? Well, more than just that for as long as they were still in that place, but the ending, the last 10 minutes or so, seemed to be too odd. A good film still but as I said, brilliant, brilliant till the ending.

Seven out of 10 for me.

Anybody seen John Wick? It's got great reviews and doing decently at the box office too. Keanu is back!!!!

6.5/10

I might invite wrath from fans but I found this scarier than The Conjuring. It's not a better movie but it's a scarier movie if it makes sense. The story is very cookie-cutter and just concludes when it's about to get interesting after a good build-up. Of course, Leonetti isn't half the director that Wan is. The lead actress did a really good job. There are quite a few scary scenes in the movie.

But the doll feels out of place in her own movie. She barely has anything to do. The title though isn't a misleading one (you will know why).

Can be watched by horror fans. I liked it more than I thought I would but not enough to qualify it wholeheartedly.

Yeah I'd give it a 7. Some decent scares.

The husband was possibly the most useless character of all time though. You could take him out of the movie completely and nothing would change. All he did was smile.

Lead actress was good. She can act and did ok with the limited script.

The fright scenes made up for most of the rubbish filler scenes though. Should have dealt more with the cult and the doll though.

The French film "The Intouchables"

One of the best films I've ever seen. Couldnt recommend it any more

Yeap. Genuinely funny as well. Heart warming and inspirational. And none of it comes across as cheesy and corny. Tough balance to get right but this nailed it.

Guys any good inspirational movie to recommend ?

Most sports based movies.

There have been some good ones of late.

Rush (F1) and Warrior (UFC) being the pick of the lot. Both being 8+/10

I watched Noah with Russell Crowe last night in 3d (bluray).

I had low expectations, but it turned out to be highly entertaining.

Could you take a white man as Noah seriously enough though? He's the reason I haven't seen it.

:))) Totally agree. Dude was so generic. Might as well have the lead female be a single mom in the 60s and add a more dramatic component.

Besides,
The only important character they killed off was black and nearly wounded a Hispanic. How's that for racism?

Happy New Year 6.5/10

Decent one time watch. The script is made up of numerous hollywood heist movies but I went to it with very low expections and it wasn't bad at all.

The Judge 5/10

Give it a miss. Throughout the movie you are waiting for the conflict but it never comes, and climax is predictable and boring.

Have you watched happy new year? Looked crap from the trailers and heard that people aren't liking it either.. Not that I was gonna watch it anyway :malik

Lol no.The whole trailer looked so cringeworthy and lame. These 100 crore movies are not for me.Would rather watch paint dry.

'Saheb, Biwi Aur Gangster' (2011)

Short in length, to the point, an excellent film! Very good!

'The Intouchables' (French Movie)

Recommended by Donal Cozzie (Thanks Bro , Would love some more recommendations from you :P )

Brilliant movie with great acting display
Enjoyed every second of it , Was interesting, funny , inspirational , motivational
I will give it 8+ /10

Barbarella (1968)

An Italian scifi fantasy movie starring the beautiful Jane Fonda. The plot is rubbish, the special effects are laughable (in one scene wooden doll puppets start to eat the heroine with only their mouths opening and closing) and the acting equally horrendous but it has the most amazing opening scene of all times. The protagonist, and at that time probably the most glamorous woman in cinema, Jane Fonda is seen trying to come out of her space suit in zero gravity with theme music in the style of Tim Jones playing in the background. This is what ultimately led to that iconic poster from the movie "Gravity" in my opinion. It's cheesy and exploitative but brilliantly done.

Frontera 5/10

Story of a mexican who tries to cross the border in search of living and in between some adolescent teenagers do something a complete crap was very boring first 30-40 mins.

Kill Bill Vol. 1 6.5/10
Kill Bill Vol. 2 7.5/10

Had this series on radar for some time but finally watched it excellent work by Tarantino :14: the last half hour is very good i can feel the pain n love shared by Bill n kiddo

'Happy New Year' (2014)

The long length aside, I don't think it was a bad film. Quite entertaining and enjoyable for me at least. A very good film in fact. Of course, I am not in a position to comment on the originality of the concept and the ideas shown in it given that I haven't watched too many Hollywood films in life.

Lastly, a villain being a person with bad deeds doesn't mean that you should show him to be unpatriotic altogether. Needless it was and I suppose it's just a stunt to make the audience hate the villain even more.

The Babadook - A movie many horror fans have been eagerly awaiting and it was worth the wait. Unlike other recent horror films, this doesn't rely on scares every 15 seconds although they are there but at the right moments. It focuses on a subtle and an unnerving atmosphere which gets more intense as the film goes on.

I don't want to spoil it it but it's one of the better mother and child horror films in recent years and definitely worth a watch.

7.5/10.

Fire With Fire...

Awful just awful...one of the worst I've ever seen...the premise is ridiculous...a firman placed in witness protection who goes on a killing spree to protect his girlfriend who happened to be his case officer while in witness protection...the plot line and the dialogues are hideous...Vince D'Onofrio is the only redeeming thing about the film and its a travesty that he would act in such an awful movie...

Editing was poor , a little cut in the length would have made it slightly better.

The story is similar to lot of recent heist movies. Also , we know what exactly will happen in next 10 mins , there is no suspense at all.

Going by my personality, that would at first sound like an accurate guess, but it´s far from the truth. I am very serious about my films and if I don´t like it, I don´t like it, even if Ellyse Perry happens to have worked in it.

I can never take your reviews seriously. I have heard this is quite possibly the worst movie of all time.

I can understand your reluctance to take my reviews seriously, but amongst the worst? Definitely not! That would be very harsh I think. But hey, how are my reviews about some of the Hollywood films that I have watched recently?

I always check the length before I watch a film, and having known that this was going to be three hours long, I was very focused on the needless scenes in it that had nothing to do with the overall plot, and I came to the conclusion that I could have made it a film short by at least 20 minutes.

The BS is strong with this one. :moyo

Nightofthedemonposter.jpg

Stylish horror film from Jacques Tourneur released in 1957. Reminded me of Drag me to Hell with the lead character trying to avoid his coming death. This one has a lot of atmosphere, a smart script and really good acting. A really fun movie!

8/10

'The Fault In Our Stars' (2014)

The Fault in our Stars was something to watch on weekends!

The Fault in Our Stars- great movie, would definitely recommend everyone to give it a watch (also have a box of tissues ready if you're really emotional, the wife definitely needed them). Will give the movie 9/10.

Definitely my type (an emotional fool that I am), at least the storyline suggests so. I am watching this, and not even Raheel Sharif can stop me.

Wait for my "10 out of 10" review!

dashing_man mmkextreme_1 Thank you gentlemen, but I was wrong in my estimation. 10 out of 10? Definitely not! It deserves 11 out of 10!

What an unexpected turn the film took!

What a brilliantly wonderful film! It may seem boring to some, but the very little things that they showed in it actually mean the world to such persons. The guy in it was awesome! Laughing, smiling, cracking jokes and cheering up others, completely sidelining whatever he himself had to go through. Ideal character.

Again, extremely emotional, a great film!

OK movie...started strong but a copout of a finish...it is hollywood after all so dunno why i was surprised...

Gone girl - It was good till the ending.

I'm really disappointed with films today because a lot of them especially the ending is a let down. The Call film ending was also a let down.

Unstoppable - Boring and unexciting.

A Most Wanted Man 5/10

Pretty dull fil and boring film but to get information on this issue

Stealing Beauty

Just watched it again as I had a huge crush on Live Tyler as a teenager after that Aerosmith "Crazy" video. She is simply beautiful.

Shanghai Calling (2012)

I was having one of those days where I just wanted to curl up, take a mental break and just watch a simple, feel-good film. This movie delivered accordingly.

A nice story about a second generational Chinese immigrant who knew nothing about his heritage, becomes a top lawyer in NYC and is sent to Shanghai for an assignment. A cute story about fitting in, dealing with the cultural gaps, diasporic experiences and finally settling in with some modicum of happiness in the end.

I'll give it a 7.5/10, partly because the lead actor was disarmingly handsome (:22:) and also because it had some nice little touches of humour mixed in as well. A nice, enjoyable film, even if not mind-blowingly spectacular :)
