What's new

Will anyone ever catch Sachin Tendulkar?

Unpredictable time for Cricketers seeking to break records.

Looks more and more like now that Tendulkar will see through the Kohli-Smith era with his test records unbroken.

A truly ATG England test batsmen can break his record but there hasn't been any since....

Cook and Root are great.

But obviously we are talking about highest peaks of the biggest mountains here. Tendulkar is an elite of his own in terms of his records and impact.

Yes, Kohli-Smith will not catch up to Tendulkar. They each have at best around 45- 55 tests to do this in. Which is not enough.

In the current cricket setup only someone from the Big 3 have any realistic chance to do this. The rest just do not play enough Tests to even come close. Even then going forward who knows how many test matches will be played in a year even by the Big3.

In terms of total test runs someone will do it, probably from England. Cook was close despite having a short career, only 12 years. If root was a Kohli tier bat he would do it

What records? The longevity ones? Nope. They’re hard to break whether it’s most international runs or most international losses

Obviously records.

Sachin's overall stature is literally untouchable.

But England rarely debut a player too early. Cool made a lot of runs in a shirt time but his average suffered the wrath of poor form.

Actually no major team debut 19 year old batters now anyway.

Sachin’s stature is equaled by past players and will be surpassed in the future as he gets forgotten by a younger generation

If someone forgets Garry Sobers today it doesn't diminish his legacy.

Tendulkar is an elite of his own and will go down as one of the most remembered and revered cricketers ever. People will be talking about him 100 years from now the same way.

Legends never die

Completely agree, just in response to your comment about his stature being unsurpassed
Just noting that his status will likely be surpassed going forward, like what has occurred with all the great players; WG, Trumper, Barnes, Hobbs, Ranji, Spofforth etc are all mostly forgotten by the general masses - those who do not spend their every waking moment posting on cricket forums. Bradman is perhaps the only exception, but he would definitely be exceeded in fame, if perhaps not status.

I meant in a different way.

I never see past legends strictly by their statistics only.

For me, personally speaking, Rohan Kanhai is as iconic as any great batsman past or present. Doesn't matter where his statistics stand overall.

no one cares about players pre 80s.

future generations won't care about tendulkar either.

Everyone are greats in their own era*. Era comparison is stupid and tripe.

ok, I kind of get it. You are saying Sachin's stature is very high, and that will not change. I can get on board with that. How does his stature compare to say Sobers

You are completely off the mark. Bradman, AB, Lillee etc are still viewed as absolute legends in Australia; just as much as a Ponting or Warne or McGrath. People do care about the history of the game, the fact that Bradman may not have been as good on bouncy wickets vs 150kph bowlers means about as much as the fact that Kohli may struggle on uncovered pitches with toothpicks for bats and shocking protective gear; absolutely nothing. Tendulkar will be continued to be idolised for as long as cricket is still a big sport, like how Bradman, Sobers, Viv are talked about to this day

I live in Brisbane, australia. I have played grade cricket. Literally no one here talks about lille, AB or bradman.

Not many people would have had access to colour tv back then so its understandable.

Quite a few Aussies I know admire tenda I agree and kohli.

As for bowlers, most admire lee and Johnson. It's all about fame. mcgrath isn't popular.

I always see players stature wrt to their era.

In that regard, i kind of put Bradman/Sobers/Tendulkar in the same elite group. Which is why i said Tendulkar's legacy is untouched by whatever Kohli/Smith achieve because that would be for them in their respective era. Sachin's era has ended. All those guys have their legacies written down for their era.

No doubt Bradman was twice as good as his contemporaries but the drive home point is he dominated his era and it ends at there for me. Bradman best of his era . He doesn't have to be compared with modern day batsmen.

Sobers same.

Tendulkar same.

I am watching Kohli and Smith's careers with great anticipation to see who goes down as the best of this era.

I don't really care that you have played 11th Grade cricket. Lillee, AB, Bradman etc are legends of the highest order, to the same or greater level as Warne, Ponting etc. Anyone with a modicum of cricket knowledge within Australia knows this.

Re McGrath, find some better friends that have normal viewpoints. Every reasonable cricket watcher knows that McGrath has twice the legacy of any Australian fast bowler since Lillee

Former Pakistan bowler Aaqib Javed has rated legendary batsman Sachin Tendulkar as the most impactful cricketer of his era. Recalling his encounters with the former Indian cricketer, Aaqib Javed said that Sachin rightfully ruled the game in his era. Significantly, it has been 31 years since Sachin had started his iconic journey in international cricket as a 16-year-old against the lethal pace attack. Aaqib, who featured in 22 Tests and 163 ODIs for his country, reckons that Sachin has been quite successful in leaving an impact on the game by the virtue of the talent he possessed.

"Sachin created a 100 per cent impact on the game with the quality or talent he had. He held the numero uno spot in the game for several years as he was a seasoned cricketer," said Aaqib in a freewheeling chat with the GloFans Q20 fan series.

Answering a question by a fan on 7/37 in 1991 and how fans hated Javed during that, Aaqib said, "lack of technology gave a lot of power to the Umpire at that time and whatever the Umpire said, was considered as the final decision".

Aaqib, 48, served the Green Brigade for a period of nine years. In first-class cricket, the former right-arm pacer scalped 358 wickets from 121 games. However, he hogged the limelight after returning with exceptional figures of 7/37 in an ODI game, that too, against arch-rivals India in 1991.

In the process, Aaqib had also claimed a hat-trick after he packed back Ravi Shastri, Mohammad Azharuddin, and Sachin, who all were trapped before the stumps.

A hat-trick of Shastri, Azharuddin and Tendulkar is certainly one to cherish for ever.

Shocked that Aaqib only played just 22 tests for Pakistan. He was very talented swing bowler.

Sachin wouldn't have taken a 3 test paternity leave for starters. The guy left his father's funeral because Indian fans weren't confident their useless team could beat Kenya and scored an emotional hundred.

Sachin is beyond the stats.

In terms of run scoring, it's unlikely now. An ATG English batsmen can do it but then we don't have any in last many many years.

A lot of things might not be right with Kohli but don't think his commitment to Indian cricket can be doubted. For all that a mother endures, it is rather nice of Kohli to opt to be with his wife during their most important time.

Kohli also went to play a cricket match when his father died.

Personally speaking, I am not a big fan of such stories. There are times when your family needs you most.

he might have watched movie Sultan.

True it is foolishness to say that playing sport is more important than family.
No cricketer should be pressured to play in such situations.

MSD missed daughter birth because of WC, but it is completely personal choice

People are forgetting Guys like ponting, root and Ross Taylor, Neil Wagner also took time off for their child birth.

Lol
Kohli cant comeback once he leave the team due to strict covid quarantine regulations.
Your post doesn't make sense.

Legends never die.

Smithy, Kohli, Willy, Rooty, Bobby all gunning for the world records

Can Sachin survive this storm :srt
