Would you have supported Imran Khan if he wasn't a great cricketer?

So, great news for PTI is that they are leading to win election and may form joint party with some other party.

I clearly have soft corner for Imran Khan for being cricketer.

I have little clue about PTI's policies.

I wonder if IK would have won election if he wasn't a cricketer?

:ik

He has a degree in political science from Oxford and is a philanthropist and isn't involved in any financial corruption, so that makes him better than 99% of the other candidates for Prime Minister.

Yes.

I do not support him because he was a cricketer.I support him because he is the best option the country has.

He would haven’t had a career in politics if it wasn’t for his cricket career, and his popularity and stature as Pakistan’s legendary captain gave him massive momentum.

In Pakistan, you cannot enter politics unless you are extremely rich (which also brings power and influence) or a public figure with great fan following.

But not everything was handed to him. Pakistani’s two major parties PMLN and PPP have had a stronghold for decades and decades, but he has managed to break the duopoly in only 22 years, which is nothing in political terms.

True that if he wasnt a cricketer he wouldnt be so famous but we live in a society where politics is a business and if hadnt been him, another humane candidate would have emerged sooner or later.

Let's hope he brings about results like he did in his tenure as captain of PCT. I am not much hopeful of any politician in our country though.

His cricket career was immaterial to me, I always thought he was a great politician even when he was captain. Generally in any debate he was involved in on contentious issues he was a very impressive speaker.

He’s well educated, but just like Hillary and Trump, peoples’ and politicians’ morals evolve over time for better or worse. His views and motives in the 90s may not be the same 20 years later, today. Make of that what you will.

I think his ability to lead a chaotic Pak cricket has helped him..I don't think Wasim,Waqar or Afridi can shine like him...If Misbah can enter into politics he will shine too...(just my guess)

I like him more because of the hospital and university he built but some may argue that those were a function of his cricket success

Misbah will be eaten alive in Pak politics.

The only cricket relating crediantals of IK I find worth taking note of, in regards to politics is how all the great players, who played under his captaincy and the fellow cricketing greats of his time all pay respect to his leadership skills and determination.

I never witnessed his cricketing days.

Not unconditionally. Being a celebrity gives him greater exposure. You take him out of PTI and others are relatively unknown.

I really like the question Wasim Akram posed on twitter.

Was Imran khan a cricketer who turned into a politician?

Or was he a man born to serve Pakistan (in various capacities)?

IMO he was born to serve Pakistan.

If he wasn't a cricketer, yes he would not have had the exposure and fame, he may not have become the politician he is today. However, I think he would have found some other way to serve Pakistan.

Some people just have a higher calling.
