They did, but we cannot afford to give them rest. Both are vital players in Test cricket, and our chances of beating England would reduce by more than 50% without the contribution of Azhar, Sarfraz and Shafiq.

Probably would have meant a return for Younis 'Pick me in One-days' Khan if Azhar didn't play.

Asad Shafiq is the 2nd worst ODI player ever to play for Pakistan. He shouldn't be anywhere near the ODI team. ODIs against minnows is to give such to new faces not give another life to ttfs.

Sometimes flukes happen. Not often will you see someone like Craig Ervine score 130 in 100 deliveries vs. New Zealand.

that's why I said they are insecure. Azhar was insecure of Younis and Malik to take over his captaincy and Sarfraz was scared of Umar Akmal replacing him. Who knows if they smashed hundreds they would be tough to ignore.

That is irrelevant to the point I am making. He too needs to play in this series to get some match practice prior to the England Tests.

These three were performing Hajj and haven't picked up a bat in the last month. The likes of Younis and Misbah are still doing net practice and working out in the gym.
 
Sensible batting by these two.

Haris, Sarfraz, Malik, Rizwan (in that order: #3 to #6) is a better ODI middle-order than all of our countless combinations in the last 4-5 years, who have yielded no results.

Umar Akmal is too good to ignore for too long. You will need him. He has shown his quality against Sri Lanka and Zim in the T20s. He looks more versatile batsman than any of the in the team. We have some really big tours coming up..the pretending to be good batsmen will face real music soon.I'm sure they have done well on dead pitches of SC against low ranked teams but they won't play there forever.

He needs practice,he could play club cricket. We can't mold principle because he needs practice and the principle says he doesn't deserve to be in the ODI squad on merit.
 
If it is my call, I would convert Umar into an ODI/T20 opener.
 
partnership of 35 runs so far but Sarfraz needs to get going. We need a big total. Zim are capable of chasing 250.

Club cricket cannot be equated to international cricket. We have a series prior to the England Tests which should be utilized.
 
Shoaib Malik is a cool customer. Him regaining his form/confidence is great for Pakistan cricket in Limited Overs.

got to say we need sarfi at the top of the order with azhar. this shezad tuk tuk isnt worth it anymore..I eman the shot he played to get out was beyond pathetic today? cant you hit a damn cover drive anymore shezad?

so you will bend your principles that easily? ODIs can't be used to give practice to test players that don't deserve to be in the ODI team..If he needs practice he can play club cricket,hit nets,ask selectors to make him part of A squad.

Totally agree. Zeher lagta hai mujhe Shafiq specially in LOIs
 
Ive always wanted sarfraz at 4 perfect position from him. Just came back from school. Bloody shehzad needs to leave this team fir good! Getting azhar run out and playing terribly. Im happy hes playing bad because if he gets replaced by babar azam this will be our perfect odi 11 when haris comes back instead of hafeez. What do you think [MENTION=131701]Mamoon[/MENTION]

What principles. My priority is the England Test series, not this. I am happy to lose this one if it means our key Test players get some rhythm and match-fitness.

Babar or Umar Akmal should open with Azhar with Haris at number 3, Sarfraz at number 4, Malik at number 5 and Rizwan at number 6. Ideal top 6 for us.

Kick out both Shehzad and Hafeez, who is better than the former but he is 34 years old and cannot bowl anymore, so invest in a younger player.
 
Finally the run rate starting to be picked up here, both these batsmen need to be looking to score big here so we can get a total our bowlers can defend.

Both players looking busy, rotating strike which is way middle of an ODI inns should be played.
 
both players playing well here. We really need to look at the top of the order. Having said that i dont think professor will miss out next time. He loves minnow bashing.
 
Need to get rid of passengers like Shehzad & Hafeez. Cant believe they have selected Hafeez for the England tests.
 
How come Rizwan has hair. Wasn't he at Hajj.

horrible shot..just when things were getting better well it's up to two wicket keeper batsmen now.

I have already clarified that both have access to net practice etc., but these three were at Hajj and haven't picked up a bat for a long time. They need this series.
 
Poor shot by Malik. He has thrown his wicket away thrice on this tour after getting starts.
 
How good is this Yamin guy with the bat. Our batting lineup looks a bit fickle.
