Under 2 weeks now till the season starts ⚽🥅

Arsenal are going to be one of the most interesting teams to watch this season. Since the start of his reign Arteta now has secured most of the personnel that he wanted in order to play his style of attacking football. With the money spent and the now impressive depth secured, there is nowhere to hide if he does not turn that into something tangible this season.

I am not sure if Arteta is the man to dethrone Pep in 2024 Premier League race just based on how perfect you have to be to beat the bald man. However i do think he will be successful this season. I predict Arsenal to finish 2nd and win a trophy.

Pre-season has been a mix bag so far and Arsenal do not look settled or prepared for the season ahead.

- Timber has looked since he's joined
- ESR is fit again and looked good for England U21s In summer
-Partey is still Arsenal's main midfielder (all those wanting him moved on were very silly)
- Saliba back is good (needs natch fitness as he was poor vs monaco)

- Jesus injury (can't keep having main striker injured) this is now an issue for Arsenal.
- Ramsdale carrys poor end season for into pre-season, complacency has set in. Going for Raya is a good move
- defensively as a team, no improvement shown, individual mistakes, easily exposed on counter attack, still issues at how easily teams open us up. (Teams like monaco making us look bad).

Results are irrelevant in pre-season but the performance and whats been "worked on" ain't working.

If Arsenal do not sign a new striker or fix the defensive issues this is going to be a woefully poor season and the Arteta fan boys are in for a reality check.

Arsenal can't afford a slow start to this season when it starts.

Has Saliba fully recovered from his injury?

A HUGE season for Arsenal.

Finishing 2nd last season, spending more than any other club, surely the league Title is a must?

Or will Arsenal fans be happy with 2nd?

Yeah he played vs monaco but doesn't look Match fit, he was booked early on and then made a last man foul after that and should have got a red card, as it was a friendly he stayed on.

Just like last season defensively there have been to many mistakes in pre-season, getting exposed on counter attack and in one vs one duals. No improvement in defending as unit means no title this season.

Timber has looked good, Rice and havertz nothing special.

Jesus is now injured and has surgery and will miss 1st 4 or 5 games of season. Arteta won't use balogun nor sign a new striker, this will mean a slow start to season.

4th full season for Arteta, has to win title! No ifs and buts. However because top 5 will qualify for CL the kronkes will be happy with CL football again.

No ambition, no accountability. If we do not sign a new striker, we will finish below man united and Liverpool this season.

Jesus can't be reliable enough. City have haaland and alvarez. We have done nothing in summer to close that gap.

Very risky playing him if he's not fully fit. He's a class defender , it will be nice to see him play a full season esp for any chance of the title.

Jesus has always been injury prone, he plays well for 2-3 matches but seems to fall apart after. Spending 100 mill on one player when a striker is a must is a bit strange. Or does Arteta feel Nketiah is elite and will score 20+ PL goals this season? However very strange to see Arsenal with little to no strikers, a club in recent decades known for scoring a lot of goals.

There is 3 half weeks remaining in the transfer window. Perhaps there is a target striker we are not aware of?

Saliba has played the United and Barca games as well so he's building up his fitness, he just look bad vs monaco so in hoping it's just a blip. The midfield when partey plays looks good, but when he doesn't it looks weak so Arteta is going to have to show he can rotate in all competitions, something he's shown he's incapable of as a manager.

Jesus is done, 2 knee injuries in short space of time he's not going to come back to a high quality level. He needs to be made the back up striker now. Balogun wants 1st choice football and Arteta doesn't rate him and will keep playing nketitah 🤦‍♂️. Nketitah or havertz will be used and both are mediocre. Trossard could be used there but its not bridging the gap between us and City.

We've not been linked to any new strikers apart from maybe kudus from Ajax who could do a job, but he's not elite.

I'd like Ivan toney but he's banned until January.

Poor defence still, no decent striker, Arteta being poor on squad rotation and weak mentality in team its going to be trophyless again. The club won't do anything as they only care about CL money.

I know we’ve made signings but I don’t see us having a good season in the league like last year. I’m an arsenal ticket holder who also attends the “big” away games so nice to see a thread in here where games can be discussed.

Going today to Wembley should be a good game. No matter who we play in the charity shield which I still call it lol we always do end up winning it. So that gives me confidence!

Sadly no chance of a striker. Havertz and Eddie will be used about to cover Jesus when injured

Havertz starting as a striker. All those Arteta fans when havertz was signed, were saying he's not a striker and was misused at Chelsea

Bit of slow affair atm?
It's pre-season game so won't be full throttle. It's pretty much attack vs defence training drill. Arsenal need to stop giving ball away cheaply.

True - guess am all hyped up!

True - guess am all hyped up!
Havertz has wasted those 2 chances, need to be clinical. If that's haaland with those chances it's in the net.

Ramsdale nearly getting lobbed from half way line again.

Overall no real cutting edge in final 3rd for either team.

Real excitement next week when league starts

Defo. Liverpool beat City in last seasons shield game but City went on to win the treble while LFC couldnt make 4th.

Arteta needs to remain calm, seems after spending so much he is already feeling some pressure.

Community Shield is just a glorified pre-season friendly and never has any baring on how season will pan out.

With fixtures Arsensl have early on with games vs united and Spurs and Everton away, we can't afford a slow start. With no Jesus it may end up being a struggle with no top quality striker in squad. Havertz and Eddie are not the answer.

Cole palmer scores a brilliant goal 1-0. Difference in quality and cutting edge

City looking to kill off toothless Arsenal here with a 2nd goal.

Trossard scores in 10th minute injury time 1-1

Penalties it is, apart from the game vs monaco, ramsdale is usually rubbish in shootouts, will that change?

KDB hits the bar and rodri pen saved by ramsdale.

Arsenal win 4-1 on pens

Arsenal need to start Trossard vs Notts forrest and also another striker needs to be signed.

Apart from deflected late goal, the attack was toothless and can't afford that this season. No new striker and Arsenal are finishing 4th below united and Liverpool.

Arsenal 1-1 Man City (4-1 pens)

Arsenal gave their hopes of beating Manchester City to the Premier League title a psychological boost as they defeated Pep Guardiola's side on penalties to win the Community Shield.

After a largely forgettable 70 minutes in the season curtain-raiser, Cole Palmer looked to have won it for City when the substitute curled home a stunning strike.

But Leandro Trossard equalised in the 101st minute when his shot deflected into the back of the net.

That took the game to spot-kicks, where substitute Kevin de Bruyne struck the crossbar before Rodri saw his effort saved and then Fabio Vieira converted to secure the silverware for Arsenal.

Timber was excellent today and was Arsenal's best player.

Rice was decent.

Hope parteys head injury isn't to serious.

Havertz is not a striker and can't finish his dinner.

Real stuff starts next weekend vs Notts forrest

No psychological boost at all, game ended 1-1 In normal time and is a pre-season game.

Man city have lost three consecutive Community shields and they have gone on to win title.

Havertz shouldn't be starting games as a striker.

Jurrien Timber for £34m! That's what you call business, the guy is magnificient.

Main thing is nobody got injured and players finally got a result over city will give confidence now going in to the season.

Couple pics from the game yesterday

Excellent signing as club were after him 2 or 3 years ago. Means Ramsdale needs to perform consistently or he will be benched.

Competition for places is good. We still need a striker and another right winger.

Deadwood like nketitah, holding, cedric, pepe, Vieira, tomayassu, elneny, balogun (reluctantly) all need to be moved on.

I wish we signed Kudus instead of Havertz. The Ghanian can play the number 10 role, play right wing in Saka's absence and also play as number 9.

Good transfer window so far, Raya for 30m is another fantastic deal.

Welcome back 😄.He would have been a good signing, brighton have a bargain in signing him and he will score goals there. Your 100% right on havertz.

Instead we have signed a 65M proven PL flop.

Oh wait sorry according to Arteta cheerleaders (Mamoon and few others) he was mis used at Chelsea and Is not a number 9. He was never got a set position.

So far Arteta doesn't know where to use him. He looked poor in number 8 and not good enough defensively. As a striker he couldn't score in a brothel.

The so called Arteta won't miss use him, or he will be better at Arsenal excuses will run out soon.

AFTV gassing up havertz because he held up ball well in 1st half. Wow 65M to hold ball up, that's money we'll spent ain't it to close gap on city 🤣🤦‍♂️

3 out of 4 transfers are good.

Still not addressed the striker issuer or right wing issue.

Jesus can't be depend to stay fit.

Saka will dissapear again in March when Arteta runs him into ground for 3rd season running

Matt Turner has joined Notts forrest, hopefully he will let in loads of goals on Saturday 🤭😉

Raya had 1 year left on his contract, he's extended that now. He will join Arsenal on an initial loan, for a £3m fee, with a £27m buy option clause 🔴✍️. So if Arsenal don't make it permanent he would just be in same situation at Brentford with a year left (next summer).

3M loan fee is good business.

Now go buy a striker.

That Raya deal has fantastic terms, only adds 3m to our summer spending.

Is the Charity Shield curse real?
One of the last 12 Charity shield winners has won the title.

It's a glorified pre-season friendly.

Because a lot of Arsenal fan base have never seen Club win a title, they start counting charity shield like its a major trophy

Raya is an excellent addition to the squad.

Gives Ramsdale competition and who knows might even take over from him as the number one choice.

Partey at RB?
Gabriel and Trossard on the bench

🤦‍♂️ Weird selections have begun. Should still be forrest

Extremely attacking line-up today.
Gabriel on the bench with both Nketiah and Havitz in the eleven

Expect white to switch with Partey and either on of Rice or Partey dropping in to defence.

Will be interesting to see how this plays out

Gabriel inured during training so only being risked on the bench

Issue at home last season to many goals conceded (30+) which was shambolic. Overall if you want to win a title you can't concede more then 40+ goals overall in a season.

Forrest only won 1 game away from home last season.

Let's see if we match last season 5-0 win.

From invicibles to invertibles 🤣🤦‍♂️ just waiting for Arsenal to play with 4 CBs, then a proper number 9. Only thing Arteta hasn't copied of Pep yet

Looks like a 3-2-4-1

Basically copying Pep

As he has no ideas of his own

Slow boring passing side ways most of game so far while forrest low block. Most players taking 2 or 3 touches before they pass 😴

Forrest with best chance so far as well and should be 1-0 up. No fluidity from Arsenal at all

HT 2-0 - been like a training game of attack vs defence

Ramsdale almost with a clanger, boring uninspiring 2nd half so far

2-1 Forrest back in it, Arsenal have been shocking in this 2nd half

Havertz is garbage.

Gabriel on now, Arsenal in defensive mode against relegation fodder

Utter garbage again from havertz.

Oh he "was misused at chelsea"

65M dog turd

Havertz stinking the place out

Its because Chelsea had loads of managers

We will get the Leverkusen havertz

Arteta will make him world class

Enjoy the **** show from havertz today 🤣🤣🤦‍♂️

Arsenal win 2-1 utter garbage performance. Scraped 3 points

Hung on in the end.

Looked a bit rusty especially in the latter stages of the match.

Looked a bit rusty especially in the latter stages of the match.
Utter garbage performance, no creativity from either oddegard or havertz.

2 goals were scored from individual efforts.

Then basically hung on

Bukayo Saka's superb first-half strike helped Arsenal begin their Premier League campaign with a 2-1 win over Nottingham Forest on the opening weekend.

The 21-year-old England forward added to Eddie Nketiah's 26th minute opener with a curling effort from outside the area that nestled itself into the top left corner of the Forest net, well past the reach of former Gunners keeper Matt Turner.

But last season's Premier League runners-up had to survive a late charge by Forest after substitute Taiwo Awoniyi clawed a goal back in the 83rd minute.

The game had been delayed by 30 minutes because of an e-ticketing system issue that meant the majority of fans were still outside Emirates Stadium at the scheduled kick-off time of 12:30 BST.

When play did eventually get underway, it was Nottingham Forest with the first clear-cut chance when Brennan Johnson was put through on goal against Aaron Ramsdale, but the Wales forward lofted his shot high and wide when the Arsenal goalkeeper rushed off his mark.

Forests' chances for the remainder of the game were few and far between until Awoniyi helped the visitors roar to life and create a tense finish.

Timber out for atleast 3 months if not longer with ACL injury. With Tomiyasu, Zinchenko also injury prone and Tierney likely to be sold. Arsenal have squad issues again.

From Arsenal Club:

During the match against Nottingham Forest on Saturday, Jurrien Timber has received extensive assessments and scans which have confirmed he has sustained an injury to his right knee.

Jurrien will undergo a further detailed assessment and review with a consultant in the coming days to assess the full extent of the injury, in order to determine the next steps. A further update will be provided in due course.

Everyone at the club will be focused on supporting Jurrien at this time.

Arsenal have signed Spanish goalkeeper David Raya on a season-long loan from Brentford with the option to make the move permanent.

Raya, 27, will provide competition for England keeper Aaron Ramsdale and has taken the number 22 shirt.

He has also signed a new two-year contract with Brentford to ensure the deal could be completed quickly.

"I'm over the moon to be able to take this challenge in my career and make the step up," Raya said.

Brentford director of football Phil Giles explained Raya's contract extension was a "fall-back position" in the event that the transfer did not become permanent but said he was "not expecting to see Raya back at Brentford".

"I'm sure the first question that all Brentford fans will ask is why this transfer has been structured as an initial loan with Arsenal having the option to make it permanent in the future," Giles told Brentford's website.

"The answer to that is simply that it enables this deal to be done more rapidly between both clubs, with all parties wanting to make this a permanent transfer as soon as practically possible, whenever that might be."

Barcelona-born Raya joined Blackburn as a 16-year-old in July 2012 where he went on to make 108 appearances in all competitions.

He signed for Brentford in July 2019 for a fee in the region of £3m and was a key part of the Bees side which won promotion to the Premier League in 2021.

He kept 11 Premier League clean sheets last season as the Bees finished ninth.

Raya acknowledged Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta's blueprint for the Gunners was integral to his decision to join the club.

"I spoke to the boss and he sent me the values of what Arsenal are about," he added.

"The way that the club is going, it's growing even more so it is a beautiful challenge to take and I couldn't say no.

"I've seen Arsenal a lot for a lot of years and since [Arteta] came he's made a massive difference to the style of play and to the club.

"The way the team plays out of the back, being confident and taking possession to the other team is the main thing why I fit into the team. I'm going to try and help as much as possible and we'll see what happens."

Raya made a total of 161 appearances for Brentford and made his international debut for Spain against Albania in March 2022.

Arsenal sporting director Edu added: "David is a top-quality goalkeeper, who has consistently performed to a high level with Brentford in the Premier League.

"With David joining us we are adding quality and depth to our squad so we can perform at the highest possible level in all competitions."

Gabriel linked with Saudi move

Arsenal defender Gabriel is the latest big-name star to be targeted for a big-money move to Saudi Arabia, according to the Daily Mirror.

The Gunners are reportedly aware of the interest but it is unclear whether the club would be willing to sell their regular centre-back.

Arsenal signed Gabriel from Lille for £27m in 2020 and the 25-year-old is under contract until 2027.

The Brazilian was a surprise omission for their curtain-raising 2-1 win against Nottingham Forest on Saturday.

Jurrien Timber has suffered an anterior cruciate ligament injury to his right knee and will have surgery in the coming days, Arsenal have confirmed.

Timber, 22, limped off the pitch in the 50th minute of the Gunners' 2-1 victory against Nottingham Forest on Saturday.

The Netherlands international signed from Ajax for £34m last month.

In a statement, Arsenal said Timber "will be out of action for a period of time" and that they will support his recovery.
