Yep should have buried it. Expected more from arsenal but psg tactics were spot on, controlled the pace and had more possession away from home.

PSG almost certain to score at home, arsenal scoring 3 may need a miracle but its possible with a great performance and some luck to score first to take the match all the way.

PSG has overall more quality .
 
Arteta should have brought Nwaneri on at HT. Odegaard should not start in the second leg. Another stinker from him.

I was watching the game on Prime and I agree with Alan Shearer. He was saying Partey would've swept that ball up when it was played into Dembele in the lead up to his goal.

Arsenal should have signed Khavicha in the Jan transfer window.

Really annoyed by what I have seen but full credit to PSG. Worthy winners and to be honest it could've been much worse than 1-0.

Arsenal will need to win the game at Paris. They have a big task ahead of them.

Calm down lad. End of last season he performed very well so no need to start calling people clowns.

This season he has been pathetic. His downfall needs to be studied.

Considering we only played with 10 men I think 1-0 is not a disaster

Come next season if Partey isn't here, then get ready for plenty of these type of performances from our midfield. Because oddegard, Merino, havertz (when he's played there) are simply not good enough level.
 
So PSG were disciplined tonight. Hence, stuck at it. Like i said, PSG midfield just to strong.

Let's face it, premier leagues best midfield pairing, Gravenberg and Maccalister were schooled by these guys. Let's face it, Arsenal don't have anyone as good as them going by this season.

But all is not lost. PSG do have phases where they can switch off. You guys better pray that is the case

He had a few decent games last season. Dissapeared when it mattered most.

Supposedly I had an Agenda 🤣

An Agenda against mediocre players

I said all along this guy is overated

That once season where he got 15 goals, was an anomaly. All he's done since is revert to the decent at best level he's at.

Time to move on from such players, espcially if Arsenal want to win PL titles.

PSG wasted numerous chances in Liverpool, Villa ties and this one. If they were clinical then the games wudnt have even been close.

Fair play to PSG for their discipline, but at same time Arsenal passing was so poor that PSG were rarely opened up to often..when they did, that's when your world class keeper bails you out.

It's called getting premature excited at a player over performing.

Same happened with havertz, Martinelli and trossard who have all reverted to type as well.

Only saka has actually delivered season after season and is worth they hype he gets.
 
Gooners should break their wage structure and break the bank for Florian wirtz. Static Midfielders can only do so much, specially when they come up against world class players. In Wirtz , Gooners would potentially have a Top top Midfielder

There is a stat somewhere that in the PL thats he's been subbed off over 60 times in 145 games or so..

That's just shocking for someone who is the captain

His cup and European performances have been much better.

All this talk in face base thst we need a back up for him, reality is we need an upgrade. Even if he's moved deeper position, he's lack of physicality will just get shown up.

He's not at the Alonso / carzola level to be playing further back.

Partey was misses big time tonight, which meant Rice had to play further back.

With 2 statues in front of him it's no shock we no control in midfield

If we sign a so called number 9 in summer.

Either havertz or merino are both going to be used again in midfield and these 2 are so **** in that position its unreal

I thought Merino did fine in midfield. He lacks legs which doesn't help when Skipper is skipping about hiding

Merino was awful in midfield and literally offered nothing.

I lost count how many times PSG quick one touch passing just by passed the 2 statues in midfield.

Zero control, zero mobility.

Again people with think it's a so called Agenda

Has Merino done well as a make shift striker? Yes.

Reality is he was signed as a midfielder, to essentially replace havertz in midfield (another failure).

Have we replaced xhaka in that position no..

If this club wants to win PL title, the club ain't with such midfielders

If partey leaves in summer, out midfiled options are rice, oddegard, havertz and Merino before any new signings come in then this club will is in serious trouble in terms of quality in the midfield

People need to focus on players primary positions and the bigger picture. All tonight showed is that Arsenal midfield needs just as much surgery as the attack does

The game was fairly reminiscent of last year when Musiala was toying with your midfield. Quality midfielders play in pockets which is very difficult to pick up.

Same happened last night. Not one of your midfield solved the puzzle last night. It was like Cart Donkeys chasing shadows!

Last night was like watching the Newcastle league cup semi final all over again.

I thought the same. I was thinking this is like the Newcastle semi.

Come to think of it Mikel selected the 11 we expected with Partey being out. But with it not working he had to change something and he didn't. He really needs to learn now to adapt which he is showing no sign of.

Even with the starting 11 he could have made changes in swapping merino and shoving him up front and moving trossard back. Play some long balls if they had to.

Arsenal seem to have zero confidence in playing through PSG press and being brave

He could have brought white on earlier, switched timber across, LMS into midfield and rice further forward with 20 minutes to go..

Or maybe bring Tierney on for Martinelli, and just get crosses into box for merino

Arteta stood there with same clueless look on his face all game.

It's all good managing a fully fit 11, you have to manage your squad.

The fact he doesn't trust his bench, when he already seems to have this thing of wanting to work with a small squad just further highlights how poor he is with squad management. He clearly only wants to select certain players. He doesn't want to have to make difficult decisions, because then he knows players won't act like obident little school boys.

Whether we win 2nd leg or not or even the entire thing.

Something has to be done about The managers poor squad management and poor leader of a captain

I'm glad oddegard is now pretty much being called out by all fans on social media, as reality Is kicking in that this player isn't as good as people think he was, he's a pathetic captain

Yet another abysmal home performance in an important game, where the expectation was on team to win.

It didn't help that we conceded so early but the TIFO was embarrassing.

A lot of supporters groups that the club work with were cut out of the discussions in what was the biggest game at the Emirates.

Ultimately the players and managers need to perform on the pitch but as Rooney aslo pointed out fans can give you that extra lift. It worked vs Real.

Yet more signs that the club is so out of touch with the fans and just care about the money.

Talking of money. One supporters group actually raised over £10k and the club rejected their ideas.

They probably weren't great but couldn't have been worse than the effort the club made

Seems so strange from the club

We have our own supporters group called Wor Flags and the displays they have put on since the takeover has been incredible

They are fan funded (though one of the minority owners did once make a donation), all volunteers but the club give them full support and access to create displays to help drive the atmosphere

It makes sense for all clubs to do that as it can only help the team

Reality is now that the owners and Club just want seats filled by whoever is willing to pay most money on a match day.

What I mean by that is, if you go to the game every week, just pay for your ticket. Club only makes so much.

But if a tourist watched game, they buy food, drinks, merchandise etc.. as a day out the club makes more money.

This is sadly the case at a lot of big clubs now. So when it then comes to supporters clubs wanting input into club with ideas, the club doesn't care, nor do the owners.

so you will eventually end up with games where a lot if crowd is tourist who are there for a day out, which then effects atmosphere

At same time players waving their arms at crowd like its some sort of concert is pathetic. Maybe players should up their game and give the crowd something to be excited about

That's the Sad reality. Maybe this is the reason Artetas lack of success is tolerated. As long as he finishes in The top4, the coffers come in, BINGO.
 
Arsenal have new 'best bet' radical plan to shock PSG in the Champions League second leg
Arsenal hero Theo Walcott has suggested his old club needs to implement a much smarter plan that utilises set pieces if they are going to have any chance of beating PSG in the Champions League semi-final second leg.

Luis Enrique's men secured their advantage in the tie on the fourth minute when Ousmane Dembele's strike through a crowd evaded everyone to beat David Raya at his far post. Arsenal did have their chances to equalise and thought they had when Mikel Merino's header nestled in but it was ruled out for offside.

We all understand that Arsenal’s main strength is free kicks and set pieces etc. and you are going to a stadium which is going to be very hostile, you are going to have to frustrate them.

No different at Spurs, levy probably makes more money at non football events at spurs stadium than probably match day income.

Football is now just a business, so yeah such owners will tolerate no trophies as long as money comes in.

Arsenal the same as well, lots of other clubs as well.
 
Emirates is a huge stadium, fans were excited but Paris scoring so early and looking dangerous made the fans understandably nervous.

PSG at home in knockout stages have been superior to their away performances. Its going to be very tough but imo arsenal have to go at them early with a nothing to lose attitude and hope to score first and score early . Arsenal will then get further chances to score . Sitting back is too risky as paris have multiple players who can score from outside the box .

Arteta needs to get his tactics right to ensure Odegaard if not great going forward but can make tackles and move the ball effectively.

Bournemouth up next, should he rest 4/5 or not ?

I was quite the opposite. I was just emotionless seeing PSG just bopp us off the park thinking ye we are stuffed pretty early on.

Although over the years I don't really get angry anymore. Every so often something all wind me up but then life takes over and I move on.

Used to be a time when it would ruin my mood for days and I'd just be deflated. Not felt like that for a long time. Closest was the 3-3 home draw with Southampton a few seasons ago. I remember being so flat after that game but it was Eid the next day so moved on quick.

Tbh I prefer it like this. Its better for my health and wellbeing 😂

I should have clarified further .
By swearing and getting angry. I meant my kids and friends, I was calm as a cucumber 😉

On a serious note, PSG did their job by silencing our fans... we need to do the same to them next week.

Partey was a massive loss, we all knew he would be against this PSG midfield..
But he's back next week and we're got away either way just a one nil loss
 
I know I do go on about Partey a lot. His level has always been there but his biggest issue has been fitness.

He seems to have sorted those issues out this season and his availability has been good.

I want to ask a question. Who is as good as him in his role around the globe. Before people jump on me I am not saying he is the best in his role. But I am just wondering who we could replace him with because to me for Arsenal he is irreplaceable.

This season Gravenberg has played at 6. For me he's the best I've seen in that position in the Premier League this season.
 
He was brilliant at the beginning of the season but faded towards to end. Has been fantastic this season on the whole

My point was more to do with who we could get who is better, rather than who has been best in PL if that makes sense.

I just think upgrading on Partey especially with our system will be really difficult. Bruno G potentially but they are slightly different tbh

In current Arsenal system, with Partey playing DM, his ball carrying skills and ability to play progressive passes through the lines. Your not going to replace that as other than Rodri, it's hard to find players who can do that.

Caciedo would have been the perfect long term replacement for Partey, but that ain't going to happen.

So you now have to look at more conveniental number 6 as in they just break up play, do a job and pass the ball side ways and let others get on with it.

Other option is you get a deep lying number 6, in old mould of a xavi alonso or carzola, but that mean probably a change in system for Arsenal.

Kimich would be a short term option with him bring 30 and available on a free. Camavinga or touchemami would be good options, If Madrid decided to let one go.

Otherwise zubemendi would be just a kind of destructive number 6.

Whoever Arsenal sign, they are going to have to pretty much settle in and have to perform to a high level straight away. Espcially If Partey leaves.

Kimmich was mentioned in the past but I'm pretty sure he commited to Bayern by signing a new contract.

I think your train of thought is the same as mine when it comes to Partey. Not many players like him and Rodri left.
