What's new

Australia v South Africa | 1st Test | Perth | Nov 3-7, 2016 | Day 2

I think, I can manage, couple of hours today, till lunch.

WACA wicket should be the fastest this morning & it should be best for batting tomorrow, therefore not everything is lost for SAF. They need to get Aussies out within a lead of 100 - then we'll see a cracking match. But, if Aussies bat out today (that's 350+, at the rate they score), then they are firm favorite to win it.

Marsh brings up his 50 and Australia move onto 0/156 at drinks.

Khawaja will now look a million dollars on this flat track

End of Steyn's career it seems. His shoulder has been injured for a long time now. Looks permanent.

Looks like an end of an era of mid 2000s pacers.

Mitchell Johnson, Dale Steyn, James Anderson, all 3 coming to an end. Latter 2 are on their last legs.

Unless ofc, the maestro Mohammad Asif makes a comeback :butt

Come on, Saffers! Test cricket is wonderful to watch during periods like this. No other sport comes close.

Warner's such a huge wicket. Australia go as he goes. Now all of a sudden, Australia look very vulnerable. They're very lucky Steyn is off and Rabada has to rest after a long spell which makes it easier for the new batsmen to settle.

having Steyn running in right now would be deadly......the stage is all set for him

Maharaj is bowling well n this scenario... nice little flight and drift with very good control

and yes WACA is too much for a finger spinner to debut

Excellent umpiring from Dar
Those lbws need to be given on a more regular basis.

Excellent comeback so far. Maharaj will have to do a lot of bowling and even Duminy if Steyns done here.

Maharaja's first wicket that too of Steve Smith in Aus ,wow lol and great comeback by Saffers, Steyn-Rabada combo is amazing but looks like Steyn might be out of tour.

Modern Bradman is still at the crease

Steyn's news coming out looks scary he had a fracture it seems....he is far from done, but he needs to adjust his game for his ageing body

Yesterday he was clocking something around 151 which may be the cause

Good to see ma boy Philly doing well out there. Backed him when people were mocking the guy for not being "tall enough" or fast enough. Bowlers get carried away with the bounce on Aussie pitches, but if you have immaculate line and length + movement like this guy and bowling acumen you'll do well.

2nd favorite SAF player after QdK.

Kyle Abbott will be fine at Adelaide and I guess Morne Morkel will play at Hobart.

The racial quota most seriously impacted upon the pace bowling stocks anyway.

Phillander proving me wrong here. Excellent stuff from him. Wish Steyn heals magically and starts to bowl in tandem with Phillander lol

Four wickets for fourteen runs in 10 overs.

It's like a Pink Ball match just after sunset!

Phliander has still got nagging accuracy.

That's why Mohammad Asif is the key bowler in Australia next month.

If Pakistan selects him, they win.

If they omit Asif, they lose.

Simple as that.

These aussies are so easy to crack if you can bowl some decent overs together of any type of bowling don't even need very good bowling and they will fold like noobs. They are tarnishing the legacy of Australian batting big time.

Maharaj doing a fine job. Really bowling well.

Faf's balance between attack and defence has been excellent.

I hope Pakistan select Asif and Butt to prove just how wrong you are.

Not just that, Asif is 6'5", height is way more important in AUS than anywhere else. With that height you get a bounce from more fuller length, that fetch you wickets. Asif will also be nightmare to play in night session with his control, height and seam movement... But he is not coming back, that Chapter is closed.

Pakistan best chance is to some how play Irfan in GABBA, he can deliver us that match. He should be trained for that one test, he can knock off Warner, which is half the Auzes batting...If he can play two that is gold...Its not impossible, he has been playing in FC, bowling 20 odd overs taking 3/4 wickets...I hope Mickey has that foresightedness....Considering Amir, Wahab and Yasir can play like work horse, this is still manageable...

The SA's have worked the ball really well to get it to reverse, even the Aussies would be impressed.

Asif is not 6'5. He's 6'2-3.

Pity about Steyn. I think that's it for his test career though. Let's hope he won't ruin his stats by being stubborn.

Asif is not 6'5. He's 6'2-3.

Asif is taller than Wasim, who was 6'3". Asif is around 6'4-5"... Asif is also high arm, like McGrath, both use their height very well... McGarth will be half the bowler if he was 5'11" and if Waqar was 6'3-4", he could have been doubly dangerous, specially in AUS and could have longer Career... That's the other big advantage of height, you can be effective even when you loose pace...

As I typed Rabada took another one!!!

Another one! Maharaj deserves this. Hes bowled beautifully and surprised everyone

RSA in with chance to take a small lead. WHo would have thought that when the day begun!

Clarke in the commentatory house is a serious fun thing..

The ball is reversing and pitch is dried and cracks are starting to open up

All this runs will be counted.......SA need to crumble the tail as quick as possible

Australia are looking very vulnerable, could be Pakistan's best chance to get a result for a long time.

I feel in AUS the main challenge will be to get out Warner and Smith, like in England main threat was Root and Cook. Rest are vulnerable, specially if Yasir control one end, which he does most of the time...If Batsmen put 300+ on board like they did in England, we will have another good series ;-)

Maharaj has been quality this morning, especially for a guy making his debut

Maharaj looks like a quality bowler who has a bright future ahead of him.

Well I knock off one thing from my Bucket List just two days ago "Watch Cubs win a world Series"... My biggest one is "Pakistan Win a Test Series in Australia", Who knows this may be the year to shorten my bucket list or wish list as a fan!!!

People who were saying this SA test team is over the hill are so wrong.

Elgar
Amla
De Kock
Faf
ABD
Bavuma
Duminy
Philander
Steyn
Morkel
Rabada

Is a very strong XI.
