190 / 6

Very solid recovery so far, still need to continue. 300 would give bowlers something to bowl at.

Haddin and MJ doing well. Usually when MJ bats well he becomes a beast with the ball. So not all bad for Aus.

This partnership has given them something to ball at !

Mitch has been superb so far !

They better not get out to Root. That would be tragic.

Johnson looks a proper batsman. That average of just about 22 is such a let down.

Looks like a good wicket to bat & in this whole innings, MJ has looked by far the best batsmen .

Draw on cards ?

England still with the upper hand I had say. Of course they need to have a bat first.

50 for Haddin in his 50th test match.

1st 50 of this Ashes! How many would say Haddin would be the first to get it :D

There was bound to be one or two good partnerships here. The pitch is good one.

Poms would be happy to restrict Aussies to 250 - 275

Offies never do great in Australia. He's been particularly average today but this is nothing revelatory.

No.

Was the comment wrong?

Swan is expected to pick a few , when he does not it becomes tough for Poms. A spinner is vital in Test cricket for controlling mid sessions.

I find it a bit rude when people who are not Antipodean use the P-word.

Orthodox finger-spinners rarely do well in Australia. Swann's role here is to keep it tight and support the three quicker men.

He is not average spinner. He is a attacking bowler. I do not think he would like the role of container himself. Giles would have been used to that role, but swan is much better for containing job.

I still rate Finn higher than Tremlett though he is younger and Tremlett has a better bowling average.

Last 5 FC matches, Tremlett has 6 wickets. Finn has 11 in the last matches he has played.... both played in Australia.

Justcrazy is your atypical match thread drivel poster. Every forum needs one

Come on chaps - one wicket and you're through to the tail.

Yes , Finn is a better prospect. Is he fit ?

Does a pom who gets offended go bright red like a pom that gets sunburnt?.:)

Another vastly under-par performance from Mickey and the batters. CA will surely be making cutbacks soon so you'd better start looking at the positions vacant column in your local paper.

This commentary, though not the best, is still so good to hear.

They don't keep blabbering about every inane detail.

Nah, the worse it gets the more they need me. I cant lose, probably get another pay rise.

Finn's econ rate was 6+ in the warm-ups, that's why he wasn't picked.

Bowled Broady. Now get a couple more and really rub their noses in it.

5fer for Broad well deserved best bowler for Eng today by a fair distance.

Well played to MJ as well. Looking forward to seeing him with the cherry tomorrow.

Not 6+, but yes 5+ when the others weren't as economical too. More he bowled, better he got ad his 5 and 3 wickets at an ER of 3 or so against Australias A side showed.

Aussie lower order is arguably better than the top order.

Good knock from MJ, saved some Ozzie blushes. But heaps more work to do tomorrow, if not with the bat then with the ball. They will need to bowl really well to keep themselves in the game. Great performance from Bambi, he looked pretty fired up all day. The kind of bloke who feeds off crowd hostility I reckon.

Too much ODI type players in AUs line up Warner Watson Bailey MJ n Smith to an extent

That's because he looks a proper batsman about once in every 10 or so matches. The other 9 he's a cowlasher. A taller version of Afridi.

6 overs to go Eng will be happy with this from AUs Clarke is the only class batsman team fear atm
