Australia vs England @ Perth: 3rd Test, Day 2

Better length from Mahmood around the wicket.

Brilliant sweep shot for 4. Ever since India, Hayden has been a brilliant sweeper.

444444444444444444444444 for Haydunce, swept through point.

Mahmood after sliding around the bowling crease has been removed from the attack. Superman puts himself back on to try and break this partnership.

Thats the 100 partnership and Pontings 50. Nice innings. He gets there before Hayden.
1/103

4444444444444444444 for Ponting, brings up his 50 with a sweep to fine leg.

OZ 1-103, lead 132.

The biggest chase to win a match at the WACA is 342 by Aus against NZ.

Harmison coming on for a short spell before the end of play. 10 mins left before the close now,

Stumps on day 2. Hayden finishes the day with a 4.
1/119
Hayden 57
Ponting 57

Australia dominated today and are well on top.
Excellent bowling from all the Aussie bowlers to restrict England to 215. Though a 40 run partnership from Monty and Steve, helped them up to that total.
Hayden and Ponting have batted very well after the loss of Alfie first ball.
Hopefully tomorrow, Ponting and Hayden can convert their fifties into centuries. If they can do this, then they can bat England out of the match and make a huge total.

Poms have gone very flat. They're letting Dunce and Dubya score at will.

Last ball of Day 2, and its a 444444444444444444444444 for Haydunce.

OZ 1-119, lead of 148, both players on 57 after Gnome was bowled out for a duck. OZ tightening their grips on the urn. After a good first innings Harmy went back into his shell and the Pom bowlers have just looked ineffectual.

I can just see England's hands slipping off that little urn and Aussies grip tightening.

It's been a good day for us. After a poor first innings, we've fought back to a point where we can dictate the terms tomorrow. I think we can get a lead of 300+ which should be enough. I can't see England chasing 300 on this pitch against our attack. Even if Lee is dismal again McGrath, Warne and Clark should be able to defend that.

Woeful stuff from England. I enjoyed the afternoon session but on the whole the day was very poor for us. It will take a pretty special comeback to keep the Ashes alive for Melbourne - not Headingley '81 level, but near to it.

At least the Ashes will mean the end of Duncan Fletcher as coach, the end of Ashley Giles and Geraint Jones altogether, and the end of Flintoff as a captain/selector.

i supported england but not any more. the pitch is not that bad to bat and they should have got at least 100 runs lead after bowling out aus for just 240.

S*** s*** s*** and more s***. Disgraceful batting display by England. I know Strauss got another rough one off Rudi but it's not an excuse for some ordinary batting. Pietersen deserves to be shot for the shot he played. I know he made 70 but my god what on earth was he playing? He could've easily negotiated with the tail but he had to play the big shots.

The Ashes are lost for sure now, thank you Mr Fletcher.

Sure Pietersen played a stupid shot, but you can't make him a scapegoat. The rest of your batting, with the exception of Strauss, did nothing. Cook, Bell, Flintoff, Jones, Collingwood all failed.

It was only due to a heroic last wicket stand that your total was even over 200. 70 runs out of 210 odd is not bad, is it?

He was't saying 70 was a bad innings, he was saying that Pietersen's ego and 'I have to clear the boundary with every ball' mentality got the better of him and he threw his wicket away when he could have easily carried the tail through to Australia's total at least.

That's what makes KP what he is though. I don't know if he'll ever learn to be circumspect when the pressure is on at the end of an innings. He's like Gilly - he'll play his shots no matter what the situation is.

Australia have declared overnight. England need 149 to win. Risky and brave move by Ponting. If they win he will be hailed as a legend if they lose he will get sacked.

one thing yesterday showed was Panesar is a better batsman then Giles too. perhaps we need couple of more performances like this in next 7-8 matches to confirm it
