What's new

Australia vs India | 3rd Test | Melbourne | Dec 26-30, 2018 | Day 2 Thread

India should bat 20 overs and add 80-90 runs. Put Aus for 8-10 overs.

I would rather bat whole day and an hour tomorrow .... wear them out and bat them out ... might not happen now because as I type this Rahane out lbw. Pitch starting to act :)

The balls that got pujara and rahane give me hope that this game might just eek a result, Aussies are not gonna like it batting last

It is not a deliberate strategy. Both Kohli and Rahane started aggressively but the pitch and field placements bogged them down.
Yeah, pitch is by no means a batta as some of the usual suspects are making it to be.

But I expected Kohli to at least move on this morning. However he might have held himself back knowing fully well the kind of state Indian batting is in these days.

The ball that got Rahane out kept really low. Jadeja and Vihari licking their lips :)

did not even get up half way up to the stumps and the trajectory was going down at point of impact to the stumps :)

I agree, this should be our plan, even if this is a draw I won't mind, run the aussie bowlers to ground. Force them to bowl 200 overs if possible.

It's so infuriating to watch Rohit get lucky and get some easy runs.

So happy to see Pujara score another 100.

Whattay player. :D

And Kohli is truly the king. If only he didn't annoy his fans with his idiocy.

For those who are doing this deliberately - the name of the India captain is Virat KOHLI

Take care of this

easy pitch to bat on or outstanding work by India batsmen?

That pitch had something for the Pacers not just fake grass, also we scored 260 to their 197, can't say it was flat.

I didnt say pitch was flat.

I said pitch was crazy in 3td innings but settled and got way easier and flatter in 4th

First 2 innings it was tough but 3rd it was something else.

Was that pitch two paced?

Only see 2 wickets were because of uneven or slow bounce in the Australia innnings.

Pitch was slightly uneven then got better. That's what I recall. Now drop in pitches can be different so I won't read much into what happened in past.

3rd new ball is dreadful for fielding side in this heat. If pitch gets worse then India will win this. If not then Aus can get a draw here.

Hosts must be nicely baked by now . 21 overs to go , slog NOW and bowl 15 overs today !!!

I agree it's not a bad plan esp with the hot weather but at this rate India will be 400 odd at the end of the day. So do they bat again on day 3 until when? The Aussies will have a good nights sleep and their batsmen will be fresh.

Most teams in such a position do not leave balls which can be put away for singles or double esp on a large outfield such as this. These two are leaving balls which can be hit because there is little pace, no swing and no seam.

India have a great great chance to win their first series in Australia. They will not have a better chance than this...maybe for another 20 years so you have to go for it a bit.

Anyway I'm chaning channels to watch the more exciting Jeeth Raval. :)

This one is certainly not exciting to watch today.

Indians trying to up the scoring rate. Last 10 overs it is 3.5 per over.

Maybe just wishful thinking on my part :(

Some time it flattens out with even bounce. Aus will be hoping for that.

This Melbourne drop in has a recent (last few years and this season) history of flattening out further. The curator has been trying new things to improve it and this one is showing some uneven bounce but I don't think it will crumble or deteriorate too bad before day 5 perhaps.

Last innings might be tricky but if Oz can bat a big first innings, they can save the game.

Yah, I heard that few times today. I would like to not get it much worse.

Pant you *****, shastri needs to send someone to knock some sense into this idiot.

Judging by the catches they are dropping, the Aussies must be mentally fatigued.

Australian fielders dropping straightforward catches off Lyon. So all this slow grinding by Indian batsmen is bearing results.:steyn

Why not, if there is nothing in the pitch rather you bat than the opponents.

There is no point is increasing the odds of a draw after batting first and being at 300/3 or 400/5. India should be looking to win here and not simply bat for a draw.

Pant keeps playing aerial shots against Lyon with fielders on the boundary for reasons unknown. Someone needs to drill some sense into him otherwise he's on target to become another useless test wkt-keeper for India.

But pitch shows clear signs that there isn't a result to be had, I would want India to grind them to dust. SCG will have a better pitch, a tired or even injured Aussie attack is what India should be targeting.

Nah, Ind can win here. Draw is not a guarantee just on 2nd day of a test match.

Looks like some fans who were expecting India to flounder are getting as flustered as the Australian fielders.:wy

Never seen so much luck go our way in any Aus series before.

This innings is good for India after 16 innings in SENA countries where we didn't get to 360 once. Lot of credit to Agarwal who blunted the Aussie pacers early in the innings.

That would need them to score at a rate of over 5 an over for the remaining 18 overs. Not happening.

Nah, I do think India will get close to that if this pair bats till the end. Once they are around 240, they will play shots and with tired Aus bowling, you can get few big overs. May be 480.

It will be crazy if they continue batting with same pace.

18 overs 52 runs & 1 wicket in this session - What is Kohli & his pet Shastri trying to achieve ?

There has been no odd bounce since rahane wicket, so pitch clearly disagrees with you.

According to the bookies, the probabilities are about: Draw 52%, India win 44%, Aus win 4%

New ball has become due after 162 overs and the next over is being bowled by Lyon. I am loving it.:rp

403/5 & 15 overs left . I know Kohli is a average captain but the crawl in 3rd session is beyond absurd .

Unless bookies have the groundsman give this dead pitch some life , betting on India is as good as donating money.

Really funny how Pakistanis are getting as frustrated as Aussies here, keep going India.

The curator needs to be sacked for producing this after hyping it up in last 1 week .
Rohit 50 from 97 .

Don't think India has any intention to let Aus bat today.

I am wondering if visitors backed DRAW & are hell bent on making money .
Partnership of 48 in 90 balls by Rohit & Pant .

Similar effort from India as to what Pakistan did in the 2nd Test at Dubai against New Zealand. India should've scored at least 60 more runs by now. Absurd. And they're not looking to up the scoring rate either. India is putting all its eggs in the bowling basket now just like Pakistan did. For Pakistan it worked out by a freakish Yasir spell. Let's see who stands up for India.

On a side note, very poor pitch again from the MCG curator. The MCG pitch has been a disgrace for the past few years now.

Tbh it's kinda cringe to see every Aussie pacer try and sport the 'stache these days. Seems forced. Johnson pulled it off perfectly and it was symbolic, not to mention going hand in hand with his performances reminiscent of Lillee and other moustachio pacers of that era.

Now it's just cringe. Starc, Cummins trying to do it but it looks like a 17 year old boy trying to be a man. Need to carve their own niche.

Are bookies god or they see future.
And please post the source of ur stats.

If they were God and/or saw the future, they would not give probabilities, they would tell you what will happen.

And for source, Google is your friend.

Why aren’t India upping the rate?

Aussies are kinda batted out but if the Indians don’t show initiative this could Peter towards a draw
