In the second round of matches in Group A of the T20 World Cup 2024, Canada and Ireland are set to face off in a crucial encounter today, June 7th. Both teams are looking to bounce back from their initial losses to the USA and India, respectively.

In their opening match against the USA, Canada put up a commendable batting performance, posting a total of 194 runs. However, their bowling and fielding fell short, allowing Aaron Jones to capitalize with a powerful innings.

On the other hand, Ireland struggled against a disciplined Indian bowling attack, managing to score only 96 runs. They’ll be looking to improve their batting performance in the upcoming game.

Toss Update:

Ireland have won the toss and have opted to field

Saad Bin Zafar: Would've bowled first as well. If we can put decent runs on the board, will not be easy to change. It's always good to see an associate country to beat a full member country. Hopefully what USA did to Pakistan, we can do to Ireland. If you play your A game on the day, you can beat anyone. One change - Nikhil Dutta goes out, Junaid Siddiqui comes in.

Paul Stirling: We're going to bowl first today. It's must win from here on. It's changed a lot since two days ago (talking about pitch). Looks like maybe there will be slightly less lateral movement. Has to be communication between keeper and bowler in the first couple of overs (about how the pitch is playing). White goes out. We've taken an extra seamer for the spinner.

Canada's captain: "What USA did to Pakistan. Hopefully we can do to Ireland today!".

A good start for Ireland as Mark Adair gets an early break through for them

How's the pitch playing today? Canada seem to be doing alright.

Showing highlights of last night's Super Over in this match. Star Sports rubbing it in :inti

ICC seems to have improved the pitch recently. Canada at 57-4 but Ireland doesn't seem amazing as a bowling side.

63/4 at the halfway mark. If Movva and Kirton get out Canada could collapse here.

grass completely gone , rolled hard , much better surface . 82/4 in 13 - mind you , not completely benign by any stretch o imagination !
Also keep in mind the pitch usually improves for batting after the first ten overs.

If Pakistan wants to beat India the best way to do so is getting a bunch of early wickets and bundling out India quickly.

So you can score 160ish here if you plan your innings

Craig Young bowled superbly for Ireland today against Canada as he bagged two wickets for them.

Canada is pretty dull considering how long they have been playing cricket.

If the pitch at this venue gets better as evident from todays game , PAK will find it difficult to upset IND - their best chance is on a spicy pitch ! 13 in 2

Their cricketers aren't full time cricketers. I even know a couple of them. They're just regular people living regular lives and play club cricket in the top leagues every year and the best performers get considered for the national side. Their cricket body doesn't have much structure either, with most of its workers being volunteers. They've been around but are still meh

It’s same with Americans as shown they are part time but definitely has more structure and weather helps coz club cricket 12 months here esp in Cali and TX.
MCL has changed fortunes as well, 2024 will be the best season wrt players Smith Travis Rachin with great coaching staff

Oh yeah we definitely don't have club cricket for 12 months. And definitely the Americans are also part-timers but you also have a muchhhhh wider population and a lottt more leagues and performances to look at; whereas most of the Canadian cricketers are primarily from one province. There's also more attraction for cricket now with things like the MCL as you mentioned. Cummins will also be joining next year

Canada have a sniff of an upset, need to keep it tight and not let the wheels fall off

RR at 41/3 is 7.89 .... 2 tight overs might make this interesting 43/3 in 8

So pakistan could potentially lose to Canada aswell the way things are going 😆😆

we need canada to win right, that way ireland is basically out and will go all out to at least beat USA.

Can see pak timid batting crumbling to Canadian spin bowling and fielding

Your match vs USA is already over
Pakistan could potentially lose all group games , minimal chance against India, Ireland will already play with more confidence and now Canada will be a good threat . New record loading for King babar

Canada are the lowest ranked side in the World T20. What was the argument against having too many minnows again?

Batting first isn’t too bad an idea here

Just get to 150 and it should be enough

23rd ranked Canada wiping the floor with 11th ranked Test class Ireland. North Americans causing all the upsets so far.

Anyone with any cricketing sense wouldn't argue against more minnow teams in t20s. Odis obviously different story but t20 continues to be the best format and chance for upsets

Are the wheels starting to come off. Some loose balls taken advantage of

And our guess Canada wins too lol wow Ireland almost losing as well

Congratulations to Canada and their supporters spirited performance this
