But this bowling attack should not bother RCB. Only scoreboard pressure can affect them (and if there is a top order collapse)

It is not about pressure. it is about match up. If KKR uses the match ups wisely they can tie them down.

Trundler premier league. Overseas power hitters and medium pacers. The indian talent this year is all very substandard.

Kohli has no business opening

But it looks ok when you have a proper T20 opener in Faf with you. This is why Babar looks terrible with Rizwan opening with him

We discared Varun C very quickly based on that 1 game in Dubai. He must be given longer rope in Indian team. Can play a big part in world cup 2023.

Why is Kohli opening?

No better openers in the squad?

India have too many spinners ahead of him in the pecking order . Jadeja , axar , Bishnoi , chahal , kuldeep etc.

200 is always a daunting chase , you have to keep taking chances , if those chances fail , there is likelyhood of a collapse.

Foolish decision by RCB to field first in all matches without assessing the conditions...

Suyash has bowled well , but he has not been tested yet , when he came on to bowl , RCB ship was already wrecked.

RCB would be looking to bat out 20 overs , so that they can reduce margin of defeat

Shardul Thakur smashed a counter-attacking half-century before the spinners played their part to perfection as Kolkata Knight Riders made a memorable homecoming with an 81-run win over Royal Challengers Bangalore in the IPL at Eden Gardens on Thursday. KKR found themselves tottering for 89/5 before Thakur led a superb recovery with his 29-ball 68 to power his team to 204/7 after RCB opted to bowl. Coming in at No 7, Thakur hammered the joint-fastest fifty of the season off 20 balls and shared an entertaining 103-run wicket partnership off 47 balls with Rinku Singh (46 off 33).

In reply, RCB failed to last the distance and folded up for 123 in 17.4 overs with the trio of Varun Chakravarthy, Sunil Narine and debutant Suyash Sharma sharing eight wickets between themselves.

It was KKR's first win of the season. Thakur also took one wicket in his all-round show in KKR's first home match after almost four years.

RCB were going great guns at 44 no loss in 25 balls in pursuit of the big chase before the Sunil Narine triggered the collapse, foxing Virat Kohli (21; 18b) with a beauty in his 150th IPL match.

Chakravarthy then gave a double blow dismissing Glenn Maxwell (5) and Harshal Patel (0) in three balls before ending with splendid figures of 3.4-0-15-4.

Thereafter, it was 19-year-old leg-spinner Suyash Sharma (4-0-30-3) who made a dream debut after being included as an impact player in place of Venkatesh Iyer.

The long-haired mystery spinner got two wickets in one over to have KKR reeling at 86/8.

Suyash got his maiden wicket when he deceived Anju Rawat (1) with a tossed up delivery and in space of three balls, he grabbed the prized-scalp of Dinesh Karthik (9) with a fuller delivery.

Fresh from his 82 not out against Mumbai Indians, Kohli teed off in style, scoring a boundary off the first ball of the innings against Umesh Yadav.

At 42 for no loss, the RCB opening duo looked set for another easy chase when Narine triggered the collapse, cleaning up Kohli with a beauty.

The star Indian completely missed the line as the ball sharply turned in to knock his stumps.

Earlier, David Willey (4-1-16-2) and Karn Sharma (3-0-26-2) took wickets off successive deliveries in powerplay and middle overs respectively to give RCB the initial edge.

Willey exposed KKR's fragile top-order, when the England leftarm pacer knocked over Venkatesh Iyer (3) and Mandeep Singh (0) off successive deliveries.

But RCB frittered away the start with Rahmanullah Gurbaz first taking the charge against a wayward Akash Deep en route to his 44-ball 57, his maiden IPL fifty.

It turned from bad to worse for KKR when a reverse-sweeping Nitish Rana (1) got out following a good review from RCB in the very first ball after powerplay.

KKR looked in trouble at 47/3 but Gurbaz led the charge against the 'local' Bengal pacer Akash Deep, pulling him for a six before collecting back-to-back boundaries.

Gurbaz took a review to overturn an LBW decision on 30 and raced to a 38-ball fifty with a powerful sweep over long leg boundary.

But RCB again seized the momentum when the legspinner Sharma had Gurbaz and Russell off back-to-back deliveries in the 12th over.

Thakur then took Akash Deep to cleaners in his knock studded with nine fours and three sixes.

Apart from Willey (4-1-16-2), none of the RCB bowlers failed to impress and Akash Deep conceded 30 runs from his two overs. Siraj also looked wayward and returned with 1/44 from his four overs. They also leaked 23 runs in extras.

The match number 9 of IPL 2023 between Kolkata Knight Riders and Royal Challengers Bangalore witnessed a strange incident when skipper Faf du Plessis' call at the toss was not clearly heard by the match referee Shakti Singh. However, Sanjay Manjrekar, commentator for the official broadcaster at the toss, did hear Faf's call and it was soon cleared that the RCB skipper had won the coin flip. Meanwhile, KKR skipper Nitish Rana seemed unhappy with the entire series of events before he gave space to toss winning captain du Plessis to reveal his decision.

"Going to have a bowl. Bit of a misunderstanding with the accent there (confusion at the toss)," said the RCB skipper in clarification.

"Was dew last night. Hoping it will get skiddy in the second innings. That's a long way away. Today is a completely new game. Really motivated to put in a good performance. Forced change with (Reece) Topley being injured. (David) Willey comes in," said Faf.

By the time Rana came to speak next, it seemed all normal to him. "Was looking to bowl as well because of the dew factor," the KKR skipper said after the toss.

Every edition the IPL seems to be becoming more boring and tedious. This is an unacceptably long tournament which looks never ending. They are planning for 100 games in the near future and having 10 teams with 12 players a side has reduced the quality significantly. Add to all this 4 - 4.5 hr games is making this ridiculous.

Real test of this is if audience figures start to reduce or waiver - otherwise, this is what the market wants.

Remember this is all about money.

The free market has a habit of taking of things.

Indian umpires are pure garbage. That looked not out in real time. Seriously IPL needs to import some umpires from England or Australia.

IPL looks really watered down.

How can a bowler like Yash Thakur make it to IPL bowling 110-120kmph?

One can't help but notice a pattern with Brook. Thrice got out to Chahal cheaply. Now Bishnoi. Too early to call this a weakness. But it is out there.

A very one sided match.

Two wins out of two at home for LSG! And they've both come on very different pitches! Previous one was red soil and had more pace and bounce, and Mark Wood blew the opposition away. The one today was really sluggish with the ball gripping and holding, and LSG showed another dimension in their attack with the spinners bowling beautifully. Krunal Pandya, Ravi Bishnoi and Amit Mishra choked Sunrisers and never let them get away.

Too many teams , thus pool is not that big .

There are better bowlers sitting as net bowlers.

Remember Umran Malik was a net bowler and only got to play because Natarajan got injured and it was difficult to get a covid replacement.

Similarly there are others.

SRH is traditionally a very very poor batting side with Warner/kane. They had guys like Warner/Kane more importantly Rashid khan and also Nabi. Once that combo was gone they are a horrible side. Delhi misses Pant big time.

On paper SRH are a good team, Markram and Brook were in red hot form before this IPL, Adil Rashid I think is a fantastic pick, Agarwal and Tiwari are pretty good Indian batters in the side and Sundar is a very good all rounder although he has never done well playing for SRH. Umran Malik is a good pick too.

I think they can still turn it around. In fact on paper they are better than most teams.

First match today is RR vs DC.

Sanju Samson has shown great maturity and has been excellent since last year in T20s and ODIs both. A good start from him this IPL too.

If going into WC'23, Iyer remains injured then KL can bat at 4 and Sanju can take the 5th spot. However, his fans need to mature too rather than ranting on other batters and accusing them of hypocrisy.

Crazy start!

RR 44/0 (3.1) CRR: 13.89

But then Buttler at the crease so his influence on Jaiswal?

Wow what happened to the run rate? runs coming at a trickle now.

NZ misses Boult. He should be playing the world cup. Unlike other subcontinent conditions in India you do get swing in certain parts. You can make the ball talk.

Imbalanced batting unit always. There are some teams sitting out much better players. Here we have Lalit at no.5

I'm absolutely certain that with the 'Impact Player' Rule and to some extent the "playing XI to be announced after the toss" Rule, we will see more one sided games in this edition of IPL than ever before.

The impact player rule will further strengthen the position of the team which is on top in the game and reduce the chances of a turn around. The team behind will often use this 'impact player' only for damage control.

That excitement of targeting the weak 5th bowling option or a vulnerable middle/lower order will be gone.

Similarly even the Toss rule can help the team winning the toss to further strengthen their position by selecting a team that suits their decision while the team losing the toss will against select a team for damage control knowing they've already lost the toss. Again the excitement of selecting a team without knowing what you will do will go missing.

Last but not the least, the DRS review for wides and no balls has the potential to drag a T20 match for 5 hours. As it is, none of the IPL games finish even within 4hrs, when ideally a T20 game should last for 3.5 hrs at max.

Every point I mentioned in this post is coming true. I had absolutely no doubt that this Impact player thing will result in more one sided games. It is a foolish rule.

El-classico time.

Mumbai vs Chennai, two most successful teams in IPL history.

Support for Dhoni is still staggering. His support is drowning Mumbai support in their own ground.

Strong top 4 on paper for Mumbai, failed today

He may be 40 but when there is turn on offer he is the best ever captain in the IPL. He can strangle you

KIshan is a hit or miss.
Rohit should stick to ODI's and leave T20's to youngsters.
SKY has hit real bad patch.
All overseas players are struggling to score. Even the seasoned veterans.

Rohit can retire now with dignity. Like all other previous greats of Indian cricket, he does not want to retire unless kicked out of the side by force.

Indian pitches don't suit SKY weirdly . He likes when there is a bit of bounce.

Yup His myth as great captain was unravelled once star players left or went out of form.

Spinners are dominating. Sign of things in world cup. You cannot expect world cup matches like in 2019. You can't hit 10 sixes against Rashid khan in these conditions.

MI have batted poorly here , they should have assessed the conditions and batted with more control. 150 will be a score which you would have to bowl really well to make an impact.
