Taylor ruled out of fifth ODI

Ross Taylor has been ruled out of the fifth ODI between the BLACKCAPS and England in Christchurch today.

Taylor, who has been battling a quadricep injury from the previous match, was only able to run at 70 percent without discomfort while taking a fitness examination this morning.

After discussion between Taylor and medical staff, a joint decision was made that he would not be able to play in the deciding match and would be at high risk of significantly aggravating the injury ahead of the upcoming Test series.

The BLACKCAPS XI will be named at the toss.

Have to stay awake tonight to confirm a deal with some Chinese suppliers. I think I might just as well watch this.

Taylor ruled out.

Won us all our matches this series... we've struggled when one of Kane or Taylor have had to sit out, they usually cover for the shortcomings of the middle order.

Poor guy was almost falling to pieces in the last match. Big blow.
We're not like England in that they have bit and part players.

Our batting relies on Guptill, Taylor and Kane to score runs, while the others provide the finishing touches (bit/part players). Guptill is out of form and Kane is inconsistent. Taylor was our main run scorer.

Root is their main man, but they're more reliant on their finishing touch players than they are on Root, the sum of whom (finishers) make them so difficult to beat.

I know. You are like India except Williamson and not Kohli comes at 3. Hopefully Guptill and Munro fire, Williamson aided by Chapman playing the long innings with a cameo hopefully from De Grandhomme/Santner towards the end. Southee can whack them too.

Munro fails again...

We really need to bring Ryder back into the team.

Against minnows IIRC.

Do all the kids in NZ grow up playing Cricket having minor to serious interest in the Sport? I see that for a small population, NZ still keep on producing endless Cricketers on a regular basis with so many different players getting chances every year or so.

NZ needs to play to its strengths and rotate thestrike. This tuk tuk isn't going to help their ultimate cause.

Why Taylor isn't playing? Not much batting to come after this pair apart from some big hitters, let's hope Guptill gets a big one after he gets his eye in.

It's NZ's summer sport, but most play rugby or league. When I was at school, it was mostly desis who signed up for cricket and a few european kiwis.

Injured from last game.

They know their isn't much else after this and are being too careful.

If one them goes it becomes a lot harder to get a big score, they're counting on getting in and then cashing in later on.

Williamson chops on after trying to play it to thirdman.

He gets out like this so often, never learns.

That's the difference between him and the best, his shot selection is average.

Game over, almost. NZ doing a Pakistan from when they were there. Karma.

He's like your Babar Azam.

This has become the norm with this team, we take it to a decider before either choking or not showing up.

It doesn't even hurt anymore, I expect it.

Welcome to our world. We at least had the T10 tournament to heal the wounds.

slow start from NZ but the sun is out and the track looks good.

Guptill is the key here, Kiwis need 280+ to make a game of it.

I was hoping for a thriller in the decider but looks a one horse race so far.

While Guptill is there, NZ are still in this .

Barring a Guptill Special, we're not going to get a semi decent score.

Still think there's something there in Chapman, shouldn't discard him after a couple of failures.

You obviously haven't seen this team play a decider or Final before.

The series was over the moment England went up 2-1. NZ missed their chance to win this series with that botched chase.

Not that I can recall but today was a good opportunity against a very strong English side. Nz have won 9 out the last 10 series but have blew it here.

NZ have lost 5 consecutive series deciders and a T20 Final in the last 18 months. This side cannot handle the slightest bit of pressure, not surprising considering how badly we fared in the CT.

Its all gone Pete Tong. Still can't believe we were humiliated by this side.

NZ as a batting side are fragile, Nasser figured that out after one series.

This has been known for a while..

Taylors resistance puts everything in context. Without Taylor it could very well have been 3-1 or 4-1.

This is pathetic, the batsmen haven't turned up today.

I personally think Munro being a walking wicket would hurt them sooner or later.

But perhaps you're right, the pressure of a decider got to them.

Another one goes. Lucky to get to 150 now.

Nearly every wicket today has been given to England today.

This is a good batting wicket.

Yes. In recent years.

New Zealand 341/7
New Zealand 331/6
New Zealand 325/6

Santner is in good form atm, so you never know NZ could still reach 220 but the game is surely lost.

NZ exposed, a decent sized ground and they fail. Really wanted them to put the ENG posers in their place.

If they're crumbling in a JAMODI series deciders, I don't know what they're going to do in the WC.

No point even going if they're going to play like this.

Need a new second opener and middle order.

Munro, CdG and Nicols out

Hopefully they have balls and can handle pressure.

Done with the mental midgets.

Kiwis have always punched above there heads. They do much better in World Tournaments , but they lack killer instinct towards the end, maybe because lack of impact players . generally they always have had useful players. Semis , many expect Kiwis to get , but beyond which even best of fans would not bet for.

We use to.

This team does not, they crumbled in the CT and our batting was left to Kane to carry.

To get into the IPL, you need to perform... these players don't perform well or consistently enough so they can't get into it.

You never know , couple of good performance individually Kiwis can reach knockout. By the way what happened to all rounders , Corry Anderson and Neesham ?

Kiwi womens team having an early lunch. They know it's around the corner now lol

MS is a very good cricketer but can he calm his attacking instincts herel

We've won our last 8 here and scored 300+ often.

Any under 16s sides can score 300 on these baby boundaries, the first somewhat normal sized boundary and you fail. Sorry but you guys are HTBs.

Munro , Guptil , williamson , Latham , Taylor are fixed

In Bowling Boult , Southee , Santher are fixed

Grandhome makes it 8 fixed players . Kiwis need to finalize 3 more players.

Ideally couple of batting all rounder and a bowler will make it a good team.

or

One solid batting , one bowler and one batting all rounder

Guptill, Taylor, Kane, Santner, Boult and Southee are a lock.

Every other spot should be up for grabs.

Should honestly be considering Ronchi and Ryder with the options we have ATM.

I do not think they will change openers .

I'd try

Guptill
Ronchi
Kane
Taylor
Ryder
Chapman
Anderson
Ish
Santner
Southee
Boult

Isn't Ronchi Kolpak?

Good partnership, need this to continue until the 45th.

I would also play both Sodhi and Santher . Specially when Santher can be a good dependable at number 7 . Going in with another specialist spinner can be a attacking move in middle overs.

So not only are we losing another decider, Nicols is scoring soft runs to keep in the side...

Ish is a genuine wicket taker along with Boult.

Unless he's had a change of heart but I think he's also Kolpak. Shame as NZ could have done with him and hes better than Latham with the gloves too.

Na, Ronchis just an overseas player. New Zealanders don't qualify for kolpak status by default. Elliott does because of him being originally from South Africa and Andre Adams before him did because of his West Indian heritage I believe.
