If it is a washout, South Africa wins the series 1-0.

England should win this one. They surely can't lose two in a row.

England won the toss and opt to bowl

Might be a bit on the slow side considering the ground, but not a bad start.

Bavuma is decent in ODIs. Unfortunately, 1 ton in 40 tests, as a batsman, isn't what we need right now. Gibbs is correct in this point. Bavuma is also a very, very good fielder, I'll give him that.

Van der Dussen should have been in SA team long back in place of Duminy but the quota wasted good amount of years of his career.

Rashid vs Van der Dussen

Just seen something baffling.

Very Confusing.

Thoughts?

Bit of a farce, how on earth has Aleem Dar decided that it wasn't conclusive whether Bavuma hit it or not when there was clear daylight between bat and ball.

The universe corrected itself. Was Ali pointing at vd Dussen there?

Glad that VDD was quickly taken out in the end. It was a complete farce that he was given a second chance there. SA had already used their review and lost it. One of the most confusing things that I’ve seen on a cricket field - disappointing that Aleem Dar would be involved in such an operational mess and apparent on-the-spot rewriting of the rules.

Moeen is a joker. Has been failing for past 12 months and then used victim card and now trying to provoke reaction from the batsmen.

Van der Dussen is given out lbw first ball, but is then allowed to review the decision despite Bavuma having used South Africa's for his wicket.

I haven't seen a worse all rounder than Phehlukwayo in international cricket.

This innings is going nowhere for South Africa.

Raza Hendricks should be replaced by JP Malan. Barun Hendricks should be replaced by Norje.

Not possible. Remember only 5 whites can play in the playing XI.

Miller is an excellent LO player. He needs to step up now as he is one of the most experienced South African players. He should bat 5 in ODIs. In T20s they need to find a way of having him up the order.

Really disagree with some of Morgan’s tactics today. Jordan got 9 overs, including the final over, despite bowling a load of out-of-character rubbish all the way through, and he gave away a hatful of priceless boundaries at the death.

Curran meanwhile still had 1 over left, and (unbelievably, sickeningly, disgracefully) Mahmood only bowled 5 overs in the innings!! - this was after producing jaffa after jaffa with the new ball and having the lowest economy rate in the attack. So that’s at least a handful of overs that could have been taken off Jordan.

This game would already be in the bag for England without those late runs being leaked - as it is, 257 to win will be a difficult ask.

Yes saqib was the pick of the seamers by far, he at least deserved another spell

Not a Bairstow fan at all, but fair’s fair, he is playing a blinder here.

RSA 256/7 (50.0)
ENG 63/1 (7.1) CRR: 8.79 REQ: 4.53
England need 194 runs

Phehlukwayo is utterly awful, took him 10 balls to get through his first over - 4 wides bowled. How on earth did England lose to this side on Tuesday.

Ngidi’s lines and lengths have been pretty poor post his comeback. Its natural to be a bit off but its too much, should have worked more in nets and probably played some club cricket or domestic if he had opportunities.

Not taking anything from the players, but the spectators have been absolutely amazing and have completely stolen the show.

ENG 196/4 (31.4 Ovs) • RSA 256/7 (50.0 Ovs)
England need 61 runs

Another good innings from Denly and a cameo from Moeen have taken England to victory in the end.

Good come back from Ngidi after going for over 10 rpo in first 5.

THE Momentum Pink Day ODI lived up to its reputation of producing stirring cricket at the Imperial Wanderers Stadium on Sunday. The last time the Standard Bank Proteas and England met in this iconic fixture the home side triumphed by one wicket off the last ball of the match.

This time it was England who triumphed but not before they had had some nail-biting moments before getting over the line by two wickets although they had 40 balls in hand.

The series was thus tied 1-1 after the Proteas won at Newlands and the second match at Hollywoodbets Kingsmead was washed out after only 11 overs.

England’s victory was set up by their two frontline spinners, Adil Rashid, who was named Momentum Man of the Match) and Moeen Ali, who were both playing for the first time in the series and took a combined 4/93 in their 20 overs as they worked their way through the Proteas top order. Moeen also shepherded the England tail at the climax of their runs chase.

The Proteas total of 256 was one that can seldom be defended at the Wanderers and it seemed even less likely to happen after the opening blitz between Jason Roy and Jonny Bairstow who scored 61 runs off the first six overs and enabled England to score an imposing 77/2 in the opening power play. This was compared to the 36/1 that South Africa managed to score in the comparative period after they had lost the toss and had to bat under the more challenging conditions.

Nevertheless they still looked well in the game when Quinton de Kock (69 off 81 balls, 5 fours and 2 sixes) and Temba Bavuma put on 66 off 76 balls for the second wicket and then De Kock and Jon-Jon Smuts a further 46 off 51 balls for the fourth.

An important turning point was the needless run out of Smuts who had played the spinners better than most, depriving David Miller (69 not out off 53 balls, 4 fours and 4 sixes) of a specialist partner in the crucial last 7 overs when he had to shepherd the tail and probably made the difference between the target that was set and one that would have been a lot closer to the 300 mark.

Lungi Ngidi and Beuran Hendricks took three wickets each but the bowling star for the Proteas – and a most encouraging one at that – was the 21-year-old Lutho Sipamla (1/42 in 9.2). He played a key role in pegging England back after the initial batting onslaught.

In the end the Proteas only came up just short and the fighting spirit and energy they showed will go a long way to build public confidence in the brand.

De Kock was named Momentum Man of the Series as the leading runs scorer, including a century and half-century, and has strengthened his credentials as South Africa’s new ODI captain.

bumrah has been on and off too post injury. It's normal. Both need to take their time.

Although bumrah did play incredibly well vs australia in the decider and 2nd odi.

I rate ngidi. He was missed in the test series vs England.
