In county cricket, the spinner's role historically has been to come on 10 minutes before lunch and to give the seamers a rest. Entirely defensive role.

Whilst spinners are being used in a more attacking role since the abolition of the toss, there's just no spin bowling culture here - either bowling spin or playing spin.

When young batsmen don't play quality spin at home, they are going to struggle against international standard spinners.
